Studio 17" LCD went black

I have a 17" Studio LCD monitor connected to a Mac Mini intel via a DVI to ADC adapter. Last night when using the computer the screen suddenly went all black, as if the power was removed and I can not get the picture to return. The power indicator on the display is on and has power. Is it the monitor, the DVI to ADC adapter, something else? I've heard rumors of Leopard/display issues, but I had no issues till this. I will try to borrow a monitor, but don't know anybody with an ADC monitor. Does anybody have any solutions to what is going wrong?

Please help me, my Sharp LCD TV went black.

I just bought a new Mac Mini and set it up straight HDMI to HDMI on the Sharp Aquos 37" LCD TV I had it working fine until I mistakenly tried to change the resolution. Connecting 15" studio display LCD to MacPro

Do I need the DVI to ADC adapter to connect my "old" 15" Studio Display (LCD) to the MacPro?
Just bought the MacPro, upgrading from my G4 Powermac circa 2001. No one at the Apple Store mentioned needing an adapter even though I said I had an older display from 6 years ago. I am not happy to say the least. Partly went for the MacPro because I had this display, though small by current standards. Now another $100 I did not expect.
Any recommendations for displays...at a smaller price? Maybe I should have gone with an iMac....

Unfortunately hardly anyone stops to think that some older Apple displays used the ADC adapter. I bet half of the staff don't even know what an ADC connector is. Anyway, yes you will need the ADC to DVI adapter unless you can already convert your video signal to VGA. In that case you can then use the includes VGA to DVI adapter that was included with your Mac Pro.

You can try Dell. They often have specials which results in very cheap displays.
Maybe I should have gone with an iMac
My parents just bought iMacs (24" with 2.33GHz upgrades) and while they're very nice they can't come close to the performance of the Mac Pro, especially if you implement RAID 0. So while you might be a bit deflated over this just remember that you did buy a far better performing system.

I fix a lot of phones and have only experienced this once with a customer.She told me that the screen went black but the phone still rang.I thought she was just doing something wrong or that maybe she dropped it and the LCD ribbon cable hopped off the board.By the time she got the phone to me the battery had completely died as she could not turn it off.After I received the phone I plugged it in and to my amazement it came alive after the usual 5 or so minutes it takes an iPhone to fire up after being dead.So if possible let it fully drain and then plug it in at the mains charger.Hope this helps.

Suddenly, my Cinema Display 24" went black and I can't find a way to revive it. It still shows up in preferences and System Profiler reports it, but it just displays nothing. I'm very upset Any idea what can help me?

Just came back from the Genius Bar. Dead for good, repairs would be around the price for a new one. What a good way to spend a thousand bucks on an LCD that will die in about a year. I guess I won't buy any expensive LCD from Apple anymore.

Plasma not working went black.

I need help, my 50 inch hitachi plasma isnt working. all of a sudden it went black and has a white vertical bar going down. i changed the hdmi cable to see if that would fix it but nothing. It has no sound either. Before i call geek squad i wanted to see if anyone out there had the same problem and how they went about fixing it.

Plasmas don't. I'm guessing the guy above has an LCD.
My guess is that a solder joint somewhere failed and a repairman is going to have to diagnose where so a replacement circuit board can be ordered.

It is less than 2 years old, and today the screen went black. I still have audio. Is it dead?

For anyone who is interested, I finally solved it. The TV had decided to sponaneously put all it's 'picture settings' down to zeroes. The answer was to go into each possible 'picture mode' under the 'picture settings' option and use the RESET option which returned them all to the default values. Picture then came back as before.

Was using laptop to surf internet when screen went black, fan stopped working and hard drive light stays blue at all times. Can get it to shut down by holding power button down, then when attempting to power on again power light and hard drive light come on and stay on but nothing on lcd, no fan and no hard drive activity. Any suggestions? Wondering in the motherboard has failed?

Turn off your laptop, unplug all wires, remove the battery, and hold the power button for thirty seconds. Afterwards, reattach the battery and connections. Any change?

Does the Vibrate/Mute switch make the iPhone vibrate? Does iTunes on computer recognize the iPhone? If not, then possibly the battery is faulty or worse. If yes, then the LCD Display is not working, possibly the connector came loose and simply needs to be pressed down to the logic board. Of the LCD Display is faulty and the front screen assembly needs to be replaced. Or worse. If there is Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation or set up service and take or send iPhone to Apple for resolution. If no coverage, Replacement iPhone is $199 or battery is $80 with Apple.

What model of mac pro are you using (e.g., 2010 Mac Pro is 5,1).
And also,
Try smc and pram reset.
And see if the monitor lites up if you boot in safe mode.
It is possible your monitor simply failed -- its power supply or something else.

My MacBook Pro's screen went black last night and now when it turns on it stays black. I plugged it into my tv through the mini display port and I can see everything fine on the tv but the screen on my laptop is black. Everything else seems to be working fine. You need to hold those button longer until you see the apple logo, then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

Hi! I downloaded a plug-in that slowed Firefox, even after I removed it. I reset Firefox, during reset my computer went black. Now it won't open. Help!

I downloaded a plug-in (add-on) from Facebook onto my toolbar and it made my entire computer run slowly. I disabled the add-on, removed the toolbar, and everything was still super slow. I went to troubleshooting and hit reset firefox. It was in the process of resetting and my screen went black. I thought it was just the screensaver but after pressing the space bar, screen did not return. I did a hard exit on my Mac and restarted my computer. On my desktop there is now a folder that says "Old Firefox Data". When I try to open firefox I get a message that says "your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I've tried to reinstall firefox as well, only to have the same result. Help!

Have a Pavillion dv6 for my teenage daughter. We got it late December of 2011, so it's less than a year old. On August 22, 2012, I just got it back from being repaired because the screen went black and would not come back on no matter what we did. It came back with a teeny, tiny little black line way down at the bottom of the screen, didn't seem like a big enough problem to worry about so we kept it and she used it. Last night when she went to bed it was working fine, today when she turned it on after getting home from school, the whole screen is a disaster---it looks like a big diagonal crack is running up the screen and it's a solid strip of color on one side and then lines and then the crack then you can see where the sign on logo is trying to run---kind of---rolling up the tiny part of the screen it is showing on. Called customer support, which was a complete nightmare! I used the first number that came up for hpsupport on google and it was iyogi-----could barely understand the woman on the other end, she kept having me tell her the problem over and over and over and over and telling her my name and phone number and email address and the serial number and the product number, over and over and over and over and over and over-----this went on forever---then she had me try pressing the f10 key and the power button and it gave 13 beeps and would go off, she had me put the phone up so she could hear that happen 6 times. Then finally she says it;s a hardware problem and she will transfer me over to harware support after trying to sell me software protection that I don't want. She transfers me, I get an automated system and damned if I don't get rolled right back to the same Indian woman and she starts me from scratch like she hadn't just talked to me 4 minutes before that-----I was furious! I told her I had already been on the phone with her and told her all this information and she still had me give it to her 3 more times then said she would put me through to hardware support. I spent 1 hour and 25 minutes on the phone total and almost all of it was with this woman that had no clue and barely spoke English. Why? I live in the USA, I bought the product in the USA, why can't I speak to customer support in the USA? Why do I always have to talk to someone that I have a language barrier with? Why do they always make me do the same thing over and over and over and keep me on the phone over an hour? It was the same way in August when it needed repaired, I was on the phone that night 1 hour and 10 minutes. Is the goal to get you to just forget it and go buy a new one?
