Studio 8 on pc, and mac?

I have studio 8, and I have a pc. If I got a mac, is it
possible to install studio 8 on a mac? The CDs say Win/Mac, or was
it Mac/Win :), anyways.
Thanks
Nate

Sorry for any
> confusion.
You'll still have to contact customer service about a
cross-platform license
swap or upgrade.
once your install of dw has gone through the "activation"
step on one OS,
that's the only OS that license key will activate on in the
future. Even if
you uninstall/de-activate the windows install, it won't
finish activating on
the mac without manual intervention from adobe customer
service.

    AH...good.
There is no limit on the times you can install it from the DVDs. There's just a limit as to being able to run it on multiple machines AT THE SAME TIME. If your old computer dies, or you sell it (please reformat the drive so they don't get FCP for free), then you can install on a new computer fine.  And you are allowed to install on (1) desktop and (1) laptop at the same time as well...but only use it on one machine at any given time. Meaning you can use it on the desktop at work, and then when away from the office, on your laptop.
Long story short...you can install it fine without any issues.

  • Install error on studio 8 and Mac OS X

I am trying to install Studio 8 on my Mac OS X 10.7.1 and am getting message indicating PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Is there a work around for this error?

Is there a work around for this error?
Afraid not. The software's too old.
Studio 8 is Power PC only. It will not run in OSX Lion (10.7.1) on Intel Macs.

PS: if you need to upgrade your Adobe software, the current version of Creative Suite (CS5.5)  is the last version to which you can upgrade from Studio 8 at discounted upgrade prices.
When CS6 is released (no-one knows the exact date other than Adobe), you will have to pay full price.
In other words, if you're planning to upgrade, now's the time to do it.

  • Flash (is it for me?), Wacom Cintiq 22HD, and Mac Mini

I have Flash as part of the CS6 Master Suite, which I purchased primarily for InDesign, Photoshop and Premiere, but as yet I haven't opened Flash. I'm hoping someone here can save me time by advising me whether Flash is suitable for my purposes. I'm not a professional, just a keen amateur, but I do want to use quality software and equipment to do the finest job I can.
Answers to a previous post in the Illustrator forum (Re: Animation – is Illustrator what I should be using?) suggested that I try Flash.
    Background
I'll be using Premiere for converting my audio-visuals to HD format. Back in the 1980s I was right into three-screen slide shows. As part of the transforming, I'll be introducing a small number of video clips (hence my need for Premiere) and also short animation sequences, probably 10 seconds at most. The animation will be done by an artist friend who is keen to extend his talents into computer art. If I buy the computer (some sort of Mac), a Cintiq, load the appropriate software, and then loan it all to Steve and show him how to use it, he'll happily spend as much time as required for the animation. We're bartering: he gets to use a computer and tablet for as long as he wants, I get animation.
A typical animation might involve Steve drawing outlines at appropriate intervals, over a background, then having the software generate the in-betweens. Watercolour-style shading (i.e. not fill-type, monotone colour) would be added, probably manually for each frame, unless the tweening can competently handle watercolour-style shading. For some of Steve's doodlings on his iPad (simplified versions of what we're aiming for), check out http://www.mediafire.com/download/sj731c17co55g5w/Steve's_iPad_Work.zip
We're both new to this and recently spent an afternoon together looking at videos on Flash and the Cintiq. The combination looks like it will work for us, but I have a few questions which I'm hoping some of the experts on this forum can answer. A simple yes or no may save me hours of reading documentation only to find out that something won't work as I want. I'll also include some questions about the Cintiq and Mac Mini in case someone who uses them with Flash can provide answers. I live in a place where I have no access to these devices before I buy. I have to buy 'cold'. Thus my wariness.
Please note: I'm not an artist and Steve isn't computer literate. So some of these questions might appear pretty dumb to an experienced user of Flash/Cintiq.
    Ques 1
Is Synfig Studio (as suggested at the end of my Illustrator thread) something I should consider? Or is Flash a better bet?
    Ques 2
Does Flash have vector tools that mimic a watercolour paintbrush like in Photoshop? Or is that not possible as a vector, and such effects have to be done outside Flash and then imported as background (or other method)?
    Ques 3
When a Flash animation is finished, how is it exported, for example, to Premier? Do you export as h.264?
    Ques 4
It is not clear to Steve and I after viewing three Cintiq videos, how the Cintiq interfaces to Flash. Does the Cintiq know about Flash, and appropriates certain drawing tools automatically? Or do you have to tell Flash (or the Cintiq) that this button on the Cintiq now operates this tool in Flash?
    Ques 5
Do Flash and Cintiq work well together – and easily?
    Ques 6
Do I need a monitor to be able to use Flash with the Cintiq? Or would a Mac Mini be a suitable computer – with the Cintiq acting as monitor? Steve won't ever be using this setup as a computer. He'll be treating the Cintiq as a canvas on which to draw and paint.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Hi Guy,
I thought I was the only one around who was old enough to have worked on wide screen multi-image slide shows!
Flash may be the right product for you and Steve. I use Flash with an Intuos 4 tablet and it works fine. What you want to do is to search the Flash forums for references to Cintiq. There may be some problems that interfere with your intended use, or it may work exactly as you want. The important element for working with any Wacom product is to be sure that you are using the latest drivers for the Wacom product.
If you choose to use a mac mini, get a new one, one that can use a lot of memory, you'll need it.
You can export Flash files to video in most any file type and compression is installed on the computer. So, if you're going to use a Mac, install Quicktime Pro and you should have everything that you need.
I have never heard of or used Synfig Studio, so I can't comment on that.
Flash's paint tools are different from Photoshop and more similar to Illustrator's. You will have all of the flexibility of the Cintiq to control painting effects, it will take some practice, but you should be able to get the effect that you're describing.
Hope this helps with your decision.

    Hi All,
Just wondering if Final Cut Pro Studio 2 can be run on a current iMac Core 2 Duo?
Or is it only to be used on pro machines like the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro?
I am looking at learning the program and need to know if my current iMac would be good enough to learn on?
    Many Thanks,

  • Opening Final Cut Studio 3 Projects on Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) & MacBook Pro (Lion)

    Hi Everyone,
Right i've been trawling the forums in regards to Lion's compatibility with Final Cut Studio 3. There seemed to be a mixed bag of reports, some running FCP fine on Lion, others having issues.
For this reason alone I decided to keep my main editing system, my Mac Pro, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and not upgrade to Lion.
More and more frequently i've thought I need to get myself a MacBook Pro, for data wrangling on location and for some cheeky edit sessions when i'm away on jobs.
The thing is, all new MacBook Pros ship with Lion as their OS.
My question is twofold really. Firstly, I've read that Final Cut Studio 3 installs and runs fine on Lion systems, can anyone confirm this?
Secondly, do any of you know if i'll be able to swap between, and freely work on projects across the two different systems, namely a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Lion? is this an issue at all?
The last thing I want to do is spend three grand on a MacBook and then realise I have issues opening or working on projects from my MacPro (or vise-vesa)
As ever, your help would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott

I've read that Final Cut Studio 3 installs and runs fine on Lion systems, can anyone confirm this?
Yes, FCS 3 installs and runs without issue on my Lion system.
There are a couple of careats however  with the primary one being  DO A CLEAN INSTALL OF THE OS AND THE APPS. Upgrade installs over major version changes are problematic.
do any of you know if i'll be able to swap between, and freely work on projects across the two different systems, namely a Mac Pro running Snow Leopard and a MacBook Pro running Lion? is this an issue at all?
Again, not an issue in my world.

  • Actor/Writer must purchase a video camera and mac computer. Please help!

I'm an aspiring actor who has decided to purchase a camera and mac computer. I decided this after much contemplation regarding my current situation. I'm leaving too much in other's hands by holding out hopes to use student film footage for my reel. The truth is, of the student films I've acted in, the quality of each film is mediocre at best. I'm not comfortable with the idea that putting my best foot forward with agents and managers submission packages (headshot, resume, reel, letter) will be these films.
The bottom line is, I want to take full control of the situation. And by doing that, I want to purchase a camera and mac computer to edit and burn the footage with (writing my own scenes, gathering Boston and NYC based actors via Craigslist). I should add that my desire to buy a camera goes beyond creating my reel. I also have a strong interest in putting together some short films I've written.
I don't know much about cameras, so I guess the first question is do I get a standard or HD camera. Also, do I opt for something like a Canon XL2, or aim for something under a grand? A good friend mentioned once that if I wanted to start shooting films to submit to festivals, then to go for a XL2. How long would it take me to learn how to use said camera? What would the difference be if I aim for something under a grand quality wise? If I don't get such a pricey camera, than I'm looking at a mini dv based camera.
I want to do my full on research before I invest in anything. Price is not an issue. Everything is going on credit cards and I want this to be the main focus on my life. My reel and my short films. With the reel coming first.
As for a mac, I'm thinking about a macbook pro, unless anyone here suggests otherwise? It has to be a laptop for when I move back to Manhattan in the fall with my finished reel.
Any and all comments are greatly appreciated in advance. Feel free to ask me any follow up questions if you need more info to make a suggestion.
A huge thank you in advance. Cheers.

    Dear Blair:
Because you and I are in similar
    circumstances, I decided to add
your thread to my active list.
You can see my writing in Goat's
    thread, "choosing a camera," to
    recognize the similarities and
    differences in our positions.
In a nutshell, I am gearing up
    for music video production, both
custom order for bands and for
    cable release.
I can tell you a couple of things
    about ordering your Mac Pro.
    Most everything has already been
taken care of by Mac, but be sure
to option the 7200 rpm hard drive.
    The price diference is negligible,
    but the recommendation regards
    audio quality.
Second, be sure to get the 4mb
    L2 cache, not the 2mb. I think 4mb
is standard, but check it out.
The reason is that with long runs,
the cache does not have the chance
to refresh itself as often as it
would in, say, web surfing, where
you stop and go frequently. I was
uncdertain about this when I ordered,
    but fortunately, the machine came
    thrugh with a 4 mb L2.
I thinnk you are all right ordering the
MacBook Pro at this time. I have no
regrets. Still, there are things to
be considered, and that's where I am
right now. So, see the thread and keep
in touch. There are a couple of outstanding
contributors to the thread, ian and integron,
    to name two.
In your field, post dubbing is going to
be very important to you, am I right?
To get the best quality you want a
synced scratch voice track and capacity
to improve it in the studio. So, in
your search, be sure your rig supports
true voice overs, meaning, you can listen
to the original audio while watching the
action, and over dub a studio quality
    track. Remeber, everytime the cameraman
moves the camcorder, the mike moves. You can
    see the problem.
In my case, music video, live, I want
a separate audio master, which goes into
the release track along with effects and
narration, and that master has to be good
quality and consistent level. Got me?
In your case, what they call a scratch track
is the basis for later studio reproduction,
I mean, you watch the picture and lip sync the
    words.
You mention camera and that is what we are
talking about in the thread mentioned. I have
used Adobe Premiere, so I assume Final Cut
is going to do the job. I did add Final Cut
Express to my Mac order, and it came in the
package as a CD, for an extra $80. I think
it will have been worth it.
So, those are the only three options I asked
for when I ordered the Mac -- the cache, the
    HD speed, and the FCE.
Like you, I am looking at the Canon and the
Sony tape storage. Before I jump. I want to
be danged sure the MacPro will support editing
functions. We are discussing now the CCD vs.
the CMOS and there are several issues. I am
hoping to shoot Hi Def wide screen original,
loking ahead. I don't htink that may be an
issue with you. As I see it, you want to basically
    demonstrate your talent. However, editorial
ease and control should be an issue with you.
Remeber, the studios are run by very conservative
people, so you might lay low on the tech dazzle
and pitch to the fundamentals of acting with
a nuts and bolts presentation they are more
likely to respond to as opposed to drawing
attention to the technology, which to them
    simply represents more unwanted investment.
    Best wishes,
    Ed Shaw

    format. Phili
First of all, I think you are misunderstanding the terminology.
DV stands for Digital Video, from what your message reads, I think you mean DVD, not DV. DVD formated files are known as Mpeg or Mpeg2, (aka .m2v are the most commonly used) Mpeg, (aka Mpeg1) are only used if you need to conserve space for more content, but the quality of the image will suffer, using Mpeg1.
FCP can use many digital formats as source, DV, (which has many different kinds) 8 & 10-bit uncompressed video, (several kinds of codecs are used.) What your asking for is after the project is done, putting the finished project in a format that can be used in authoring a DVD. This can be done several ways, but the best way is to export your finished project out as a Quicktime movie, (first option in the FCP export menu, then use Compressor to encode the QT file to Mpeg2, (.m2v video) and convert the audio to AC3 audio.
Once the conversion process is done, these types of files, (.m2v & AC3) no longer will have any dependency on the original files from FCP and can be imported directly into DVD SP. Some have used the exported QT files from FCP directly in DVD SP and the issue here is that all of the encoding to Mpeg2 has to be done by DVD SP as well as the audio is in PCM formate, (huge data rate) which means, if you loose any of the reference files used by FDP before your DVD SP project is done, the imported file from FCP in DVD SP will no longer work, this is why you use compressor first, before bring in any assets into DVD SP.
You defiantly want to convert the audio to AC3 to avoid over bit-rate issues with the DVD's playback in any DVD set-top player. Compressor does all of this.
As to SD & HD, they mean, SD= (Standard Definition TV) HD= (High Definition TV.) This is the type of TV set the DVD will be authored to playback on.

  • Punch! Home Design Studio Pro for the MAC

Hi, I apologize if this post is in the wrong place, but it's the only place I could find to post it: Has anyone used the new "Punch! Home Design Studio Pro for the MAC". I understand it's more in-depth than Punch! Home Design Studio. My wife and I are looking to design our own home, or at least get the general wants and needs down before going to an architect and this program was recommended to me by another Mac user (although he actually never used the program). Any insight would be greatly appreciated into the Punch program or any other home design program for the Mac that may be available.
    Thanks!

  • Can't Get MacBook Pro and Mac Pro to Network

I have a MacBook Pro (2008 - 2.5 Ghz. Core 2 Duo with 4 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) that I have been connecting to my Mac Pro (2005 - 2 2.66 Ghz Xeon with 20 Gb of RAM running OS X 10.6.7) through an Ethernet switch on my school's network. This has worked without a hitch for years, but when I upgraded to 10.6.7 recently, the MacBook and Mac Pro fail to network. On the MacBook Pro, the Mac Pro's icon doesn't show in the shared area, and on the Mac Pro, I can see the icon for the MacBook Pro, but when I click on the icon to connect, I get the message that "Connection Failed There was an error connecting to the server (name of my MacBook Pro). Check the server name or IP address, and then try again." I have tried a direct connect using the "Connect to Server" under the Go menu on both machines, using their IP addresses, but no luck. Is there something I need to re-set to get these two to talk again? I have other Macs on the same network that my MacBook and my Mac Pro can see, and both machines can connect to them. They just can't connect to each other.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have on  how to fix this.

I fixed the problem by re-setting the default values for my VirusBarrier X6 anti-virus program.

  • Want to use a Lacie External Hard Disk with Windows and Mac? Can I?...

Hi, I've just purchased a Lacie Extreme D2 external hard disk, I'm looking to use it to move film clips from my Mac G5 to my Sony Vaio laptop. I'll connect the Mac using Firewire 1 and the PC using USB 1.
I understand there is an issue with setting the compaitibility of the hard disk to either Mac or Windows format but I'm wondering if I can set it to both, so it's possible to transfer these files? The hard disk is Windows and Mac compatible but does it have to be partitioned a certain way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Alex

Format the drive as FAT or use the Mac format (HFS Extended) and install MacDrive on the PC.

My 10.8.3 update did not install properly citing an 'Unknown Error'. Now, my Mail and Mac App Store aren't working. What went wrong and how do i fix it ?

I tried this and still have the same problems. If I open Address book or the Mac App Store I get the library rebuild popup and a hang. I created a fresh user and then things are better apart from the printing issue. Its clearly some 3rd party software issue but the crash logs are meningless to me. I used the excellent Etre check app from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck so I have a list of what is being loaded and can compare clean and crashed user info but as I cant work out which of the startup items, launch agents, launch daemons etc that  are causing the problem.
I have eliminated Dropbox, Mac Keeper and Witness, and it isnt related to my exterrnal LED cinema dispay or my external thunderbolt drives, or any USB devices if thats any help to anyone else. Info from Etrecheck follows -

    Firewall set correctly (allow incoming...)
When I click mirroring to turn it on, teh Apple TV screen goes blank (from its home setting)
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi!
I figured it out! It was a firewall issue.
I use Handsoff and I checked it before i wrote here. There was no "user defined rule" that denied the communication but when i changed to "All rules" the program displayed several rules regarding AppleTV and its IP.
So if anybody has the same problem make sure you see all rules of your firewall and get rid of the AppleTV related rules generated by the program itself. You dont need to update to the latest iOS on the AppleTV!
I hope that I can help some people with this info to fix the problem.
