Studio Creator 2: Query Editor questions

Having trouble figuring out the Query Editor... 'Help' says there should be four sections; I see two: the SQL and grid results run a test from a Sybase table... I can't select the grid column and specify WHERE clause stuff... also it doesn't seem to let me Save the Query... not sure what's wrong... Any ideas on either question? Thanks

It could be that an Output Window (the Window at the bottom center)
is obscuring the view.
There are a couple of ways of specifying a where clause
1) Add a constraint - inside the grid view, scroll to the Criteria column, right-click
and choose Add Criteria
2) In the text editing pane, just type in the where clause.
Note: the Query Editor's parser accepts a basic set of SQL syntax keywords.
If a keyword is not recognized then the graphical view and grid view clear.
The Run Query feature will still be available.
This is something we hope to improve.

  • License Question On Java Studio Creator 2

Hello. At the 2006 Java One Conference, I picked up a free DVD set of the Java All Access Kit/Sun Developer Kit. Within the kit contained the Studio Creator 2. I would like to install the software but I am concerned upon the issue of the license. I do not have an entitlement nor have ever purchased Studio Creator 2. The DVD that I picked up at Java One, was that an Evulation Use copy? I am unsure. With that, I am writing to see if someone can assist me & answer a question I have: Is the evaluation valid for a period of 90 days from first use? This was listed in the EULA during the Studio Creator's installer.
Thank you for your attention - any assistance/help is appreciate.

While I can't tell you what was on the DVD that you got at JavaOne, I can tell you that Sun Java Studio Creator 2 is free. You can even download the latest full version at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/downloads/index.jsp

  • Using CSS Style Editor in Sun Java Studio Creator

I could not open the Custom Style Editor Window for the components in my Java Studio Creator. Thats means I can not enjoy any facilities as described at:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/techart/style_editor.html
I reset my computer then reinstalled Java Studio Creator in the hope of solving this problem but the problem is unsolved.
My Java Studio Creator is a paid version and I am using a WindiosXP computer with SP2.
Please anyone help me to solve this problem. Thank you very much.

I have been trying to update through the update center but I am getting the messame "Error: Unable to connect to the update center server" for the last couple of days.
I tried two/three times in the last one hour period and get the same message. (Now it is 10.30 am UK time 23rd May 2005)
I tried the choice of disabling the firewall before update effort and I am not using any proxy.
More advice regarding the update center and CSS style editor is very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

  • Basic question - what is Java Studio Creator?

What is the difference between Java Studio Enterprise and Java Studio Creator? I've been using JSE but have never used Java Studio Creator.
Looking at the info about it, it appears to be another IDE to create Java applications, but I'm wondering what exactly is the difference between the two. Why would someone use one over the other?

  • Some Questions about Sun Java Studio Creator IDE

I am quiet new to the IDE, but I experienced some
behaviours I do not actually understand.
I hope I can get some help here.
Sun Java Studio Creator Update 9
Each time I change the font size and type using the
"Advanced" option of the IDE the font I changed correctly.
But after closing and restarting the IDE the fonts are set
back to the default undoing my changes.
Is there a way to use code completion for the jsf tags within jsps ?
I know that there are code clips for adding jsf components to the jsp,
but (coming from eclipse ide) I'd appreciate a feature like the code completion for the jsf components. If there is a way by configuring, how can that be acchieved ?
Trying to add a "taglib declaration" to the jsp e.g. "<%@taglib uri="..." prefix="..." I get the warning that the tags of the xml must be welformed.
How can I add those taglib declarations correctly ?
Using the "File System View" after each change made e.g. to a jsp the
tree collapses and I have to navigate to the tree again to find my resources.
Is this common behaviour or to be configured ?
    Thx for any support.

    Hi,
    1. The changes made to the font size and type are indeed getting reset in Creator update 9. However this behaviour is not seen in the latest version of Creator which is Creator 2 EA 2. The final version of this will be available very soon and we encourage you to try the new release which has lot more features and lot of bug fixes. For more details please visit:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/ea/jsc2/
The following thread will explain about the tags and how they should be well formed:
    http://swforum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?forumID=123&threadID=47615
The behaviour of the File System View was encountered in Creator update 9 as you have mentioned. Once again this behaviour was not see in the latest version Creator 2 EA 2.
So we recommend you to try out the latest version.
We appreciate your valuable feedback and thank you for the same.
    Cheers

  • Studio Creator Licensing Question

I'm currently a developer looking into 2 things...
    1.) Evaluating the tool and...
    2.) Creating a website for a non-commercial uses for a non-profit....
Am I on safe grounds as far as the non-commercial usage? If not, how soon could I purchase it....etc.?

You can purchase the SDN Standard subscription which includes a copy of Java Studio Creator today, we launch on Monday 6/28!. There is a free 30 day trial version of the subscription services and 30 day trail for Creator available as well.
SDN/Creator does not have a not-for-profit clause in it's license, so you will need to purchase the $99 SDN Standard subscription once the 30 day trial expires or you intend to commence production development.
We may, if there are many customer requests, look to see if we need to change this in a later release.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  • SQL Error in Query Editor

    Hello All,
I am new to the Sun Java Studio Creator and in the tutorial Linking Components to Data tutorial.
I created my own datasource which is a MS Access database.
I have a simple look up table and I dragged the table onto the dropdown list as instructed and nothing happened. The dialog box the tutorial said would appear didn't appear.
So I right clicked on the rowset added on to the page to get in the Query Editor.
When opening the Query Editor, I get an error:
    Error Connecting to Database:
java.sql.SQLException:[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] does not support this function
The SQL reads in the editor is something like this:
SELECT ALL tableName.Column 1 FROM tblName
Why does it automatically put the "All". Is that standard SQL? I don't think so. But I guess I could be wrong.
I have not seen this used in other SQL. I've used T-SQL, PL/SQL, ACCESS SQL and never had I seen the "ALL" preceding the columns of the table.
Quite frustrating when something as simple as a simple SELECT statement does not work when you're trying to learn a new tool.
When adding the datasource, the test connection is fine. The query editor sees all of my tables in the MS Access database and all of the added table's columns.
Am I missing a driver, or update to a driver? Or is this Sun's way of saying "Screw Your Microsoft database use something that we want you to use!!"
    Which is not pretty cool.
I'm a newbie with this tool, but I have been coding for a while using MICROSOFT products. And have not had the same problems as this. Or at least getting help through documentation.
I'm just venting here. I want to learn this tool. And when simple processes doesn't work. And documentation in why it's now working is hard to find, it gets quite frustrating.
Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.
I truly appreciate your time for reading through my frustration.

    Hi,
Please check the driver and also take a look at the link for "Supported Database Servers and JDBC Drivers"

  • SQL Query editor misbehaving

SQL query builder does not allow LIKE criteria for selecting
    data, as in:
    SELECT ALL ROOT.PERSON.PERSONID,
                             ROOT.PERSON.JOBTITLE,
                             ROOT.PERSON.FREQUENTFLYER,
                             ROOT.PERSON.NAME
        FROM ROOT.PERSON
WHERE PERSON.NAME LIKE ? ;I tried editing the JAVA code for my web form directly:
               personRowSet.setCommand("SELECT ALL ROOT.PERSON.PERSONID, ROOT.PERSON.JOBTITLE,
    ROOT.PERSON.FREQUENTFLYER, ROOT.PERSON.NAME
    \nFROM ROOT.PERSON\nWHERE PERSON.NAME LIKE ?");
but as soon as I click on the SQL Query editor, eg. to add an output column, an error window pops up, and in the JAVA
code the 'LIKE' statement becomes '='.
I tried typing the 'LIKE' criteria in the SQL source code window,
but I get the same behaviour: the JAVA source gets updated, but
as soon as I return to the SQL Query editor, the error window
pops up and the 'LIKE' statement is replaced by '='.
Otherwise I found the way the IDE handles data table
component binding to database data rather elegant.
    lovely work, guys!

Nice to know that, thanks for the feedback.
Please consider the "LIKE" operator a very powerful and useful SQL keyword, by means of which you can incorporate all kinds of expressions in order to build a comparison that is much like regular expressions.
Whoever used the LIKE operator to select stuff is probably never give it away because it is so powerful and programmable with variables and all sorts of constructs - you can practically go after any "text" field with it and get it your way.
I personally would rather have the EQUAL operator handle regular expressions directly - but I found LIKE easier and more viable to handle programmatically using variables/field contents as part of the search arguments. This ia also a limitation of SQL Server, Access, etc. - but you can't say that they didn't provide you with a suitable ersatz.
So I guess supporting LIKE makes sense for Studio Creator...

  • SQL Query Editor Hangs Completely!

    Hi,
I am working on Dell Precision 360,Windows XP with 512MB RAM.
Problem is Studio creator works almost well with the 512MB RAM(esp. by increasing the process priority),
but whenever I open the SQL Query Editor to edit a query it hangs completely.
I don't think it hangs due to memory shoratge problem.
what could be the reason or is their some other alternative ,coz whenever it hangs i have to manually kill the process due to which sometime some files get corrupted.

    Hi,
The system requirements for Creator 2 can be found at:
    ttp://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/features/sysreqs/index.html
As can be seen 1 GB RAM is required. At 512 MB the performance will be affected.

  • Studio creator and faces-config.xml

How can I configure Sun Studio Creator to use /WEB-INF/faces-config.xml for all configuration items. Currently navigation and managed beans are seperated into 2 files. I have a bunch of JSF application with using another tool that I would like to test editing using Studio Creator but the Sun Studio Creator ignores the faces-config.xml for the navigation editor and managed bean editor.

  • Problems with the resources boundles in java studio creator 2

I try to migrate a proyect from sun java studio creator 2 early access to sun java studio creator 2 but I have a problem, the resource bundle work in creator 2 early access but doesn work in creator 2, somebody have the same problem?
and, the most important somebody could fix the problem?
    Note. sorry Im learning english

If I choose for SJSC2 to create JSF applications then
one, or better THE, reason is the (drag and drop)
    Design editor functionality.
Using resource bundles is a MUST. So if this means I
cannot use the Design Editor in combination with
resource bundles, then I will use something else...
I think there should be a statement issued by the
SJSC2 team about this bug and what the timescale for
    a decent solution wll be.
    Regards,
    Marcel
BTW: overall SJSC2 seems to be a good alternative to
develop an open source JSF application in a competing
timeframe.I agree. This bug is even more exacerbated by the fact that the error message is entered in the design form and generally clutters more room than was originally intented for the text. Not having i18n is a show stopper right now. Creator2 will have to fully support i18n before we can start using it.

  • How to do internationalization with Sun Java Studio Creator?

    Hi everybody,
the Sun Java Studio Creator seems to be a great peace of software ;-) Currently I'm trying to design some forms for a hello-world-test-project. My question now is: how can I realize internationalization with property-bundles? I already managed it to create my own bundles, I set up a few locales (de, en, fr) and put in some "SayHello" Variables. But how can I associate my locale-variables in the .propertie-files with the value- or text-attributes of the UI-Components using the form designer?

    well... it's not working!
    I created some locale-properties. Put a
<f:loadBundle basename="mypackage.mainlocales" var="messages"/>directly under the "<f:view>"-Tag as it is descriped in the manual.
But when I write something like
    <ui:label binding="#{sites$main$mainmenu.label1}" id="label1" style="position: absolute; left: 312px; top: 168px" text="#{messages.test}"/>The designer crashes with an error-message:

    What am I doing wrong?

  • Opening .pdf stored in oracle in studio creator

I used iText libraies to open stored (as Blob or Clob type data) .pdf in oracle 10g release 2 database in studio creator.
I'm using thin client driver...in oracle
All things (uploading and retrieving ) works fine with the built in database..(point base)
But when it comes to connect with oracle and for both retreieving and uploading the stored pdf,it is not working....
Please help me regarding this matter

Can you answer a few questions, to help track this down:
What happens when you try to retrieve or upload a .pdf using Oracle?
Can you store/retrieve .pdf files from the Oracle DB with a standalong application? That would tell you whether the problem lies with Creator, or Oracle.
Finally, which JDBC driver are you using? Java Studio Creator bundles some Sun-branded drivers, which are supported. It sounds like you may be using the Oracle driver, which is not as compliant with the JDBC spec.

  • SWING, STUDIO CREATOR OR WHAT PLEASE

I am new to development and started on VB where they had a GUI that was easy for me to learn. I was worried when I switched to JAVA, although I enjoy it I was worried about the GUI, until I found Studio Creator. Can you use Studio Creator for programming where you use it with patterns and such in the development of software programs? It seems to be able to take the code (my cursory view of the manual).
I downloaded the manual and it seems just for web use, is there something similar in JAVA that I can use for software development that is as user friendly? Thank you for you help I know that this is a novice question but figured this might be the right forum.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Yes, Creator is designed for creating web applications.
For creating more types of applications, take a look at NetBeans:
    http://www.netbeans.org
It has many nice features including the ability to visually design stand alone application forms:

It is not Studio Creator or Swing.
Studio Creator is an IDE. And IDE is a nice tool to can speed up and improve the development of code. However, if it is generating code (especially GUI code), and you don't know how to do it by hand, then I would recommend you learn Swing by hand first before you use and IDE to generate it for you. It will save you headaches in the future. Here is a good Swing tutorial:
