Studio Display 21" with Mac Mini?

I am considering getting a Mac Mini as an economical upgrade to my B/W G3 system but I want to make sire that my monitor is going to work with it. I have the origingal blue and white 21" Studio Display. the System Profiler says this......
Displays:
Studio Display 21:
Display Type: CRT
Resolution: 1152 x 870 @ 75 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Not Supported
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Not Supported
Will this display work with a new Mac Mini? I really do not have the $ right now to get a new Monitor and this one works great anyway. I am also wondering how my current software,,,,,,, Photoshop,Indesign etc. will work with the new Intel Macs?
THanks for any input

Can't help on the screen much - believe you need to get an adapter, as the previous post indicated. You might check in the Apple dislay area at http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=111
Regarding your applications, as long as you're not running under OS 9 or earlier, your applications will run on the Intel mini under Rosetta emulation. Universal applications are those that have been modified to run on both the PPC and Intel macs, and they run natively. Those applications that have not been made universal run under Rosetta emulation. Photoshop is an example of an application that has not been made universal yet (supposed to happen this year with Photoshop CS3). Running under emulation does extract a performance penalty, of up to 50%, versus running in native universal mode.
If you have applications running under OS9 or in the OS X classic environment, you'll need to upgrade to an OS X version in order to run on the Intel-based mini, and you may find there are Universal versions of your software, which would be even better.

  • Which Display To Use with mac mini?

Is it possible to use an iMac Desktop computer as a display for a mac mini?
Does anyone have the range of different monitors that can be used as a display for the mac mini?
Both answers are crucial to buying a mac mini.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   600 MHz Power PC G 3 512 MB SDRAM

Not directly. You can of course connect to the mini using remote desktop (included with Mac OS - enable it on the Services tab of Security preference pane) and a free VNC client.
It is not fast and snappy like a directly attached monitor - so you will want to use it ocassionally to make remote changes - not day in and day out display.
Best to get a display that supports DVI input (or HDMI) and meets your budget. Here are the specs... (it will drive VGA as well - but it's no longer a digital signal and generally less nice)
DVI video output to support digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels; supports 20-inch Apple Cinema Display and 23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display; supports coherent digital displays up to 154MHz; supports noncoherent digital displays up to 135MHz

  • No video signal in remote connection with Mac mini when the display is off

No video signal in remote connection with Mac mini when the display is off

So you mean that Mac mini is different than other ordinary computer and is need an active display to avoid black screen in remote session!!!!!Oh my god, Steve would be embarrassed!

  • HT4614 how do I connect a mac cinema display to a mac mini

Is it possible to connect both an Apple 30" HD cinema display and an Apple 23" cinema display to a Mac Mini and use both as dual monitors?

Yes with the current Mac Mini.  Connect the 23" to the Mac Mini's HDMI port with the HDMI to DVI adapter that came with the Mac Mini.
If the 23" display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
    <http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter.

Connect the 30" display to the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI adapter.

  • HDMI to TV as Display for New Mac Mini DOESN'T WORK

I bought a new Mac Mini and was told I could us HDMI to my TV as display.   I was using this TV as display for older Mac Mini (VGA) and for a Windows PC, and DVD via HDMI.     TV is one year old.
The Genius at the store who sold me the new mini said all I needed was an HDMI cable.   Which I purchased.
The screen comes up for the Setup Assistant but as soon I select continue is goes to gray, mixed color scanning garbage mode.    If I turn the TV off and back on, the screen returns (now at the next prompt in the setup assistant) but again it goes gray after hitting continue.    Unusable, CANNOT set up my new purchase.
Unfortunately, the DVI to VGA adapter on my old mini is different and doesn't mate to the HDMI to DVI adapter that ships with new MacMini, so I can't test VGA.   The old DVI to VGA has extra pins not on the new one.
My purchase is not usable and is extremely poor.   Buyer beware I guess.

I have been using MacMini's for commercial digital signage/video conferencing gateway usage for sometime now, they all have HDMI output, about one third are on Lion the others still on Snow Leopard, here's what I have found.
Toshiba & LG tv's are generally reliable, Samsung and Philips generally are not, Panasonic, Sony, Sharp & Viewsonic all work, somtimes with a bit of work from me.
Cables are important (always look for compatibility with HDMI  revision 1.3 or greater (1.4 preferred), don't waste your money on exotic brands, adhere to the distance limitations, I generally send the HDMI signal wirelessly (cost of labor to add wiring to an existing space can be very high) so am limited to less than 50ft, same as with a wire.
READ THE TV MANUAL, find out what HDMI choices your tv possesses, is there a 'parallel' audio input available for the times when your signal origin is a MDP or DVI.
Some TV's just don't work well, cut your losses and get another when faced with this issue.

    Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.

  • The best audio interface with Mac Mini using new & existing equipment?

    Hi,
I got my existing set-up back in 2003. I'm now about to update it.
I've talked to Apple Technical Support re which computer is best for me.
Some important questions remain in terms of the audio interface or sound bridge I should use.
I've detailed below my existing set-up, my existing configuration, my desired set-up (as recommended by Apple expert) and questions I have.
    Existing set-up:
    Hardware...
    1. ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor
    2. PowerMac G4 (PowerPC processor) computer
    3. PCI-424 soundcard within computer (works in conjunction with MOTU 2408 mk3 unit)
    4. MOTU 2408 mk3
    5. Quested monitors
    6. Focusrite Session Pack ff ISA220 compressor
    7. MOTU micro lite (midi-usb interface)
    8. Keyboard (yet to choose - I'll explain later)
    9. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone
    10. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone power box (supplies both power and phantom power)
    Software...
    11. Tiger 10.4.11 operating system
    12. Logic Studio 8 music program
    Desired set-up:
    1. ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor
    2. Mac Mini full spec = £999.00
    3. _______________________________________
    4. _______________________________________
    5. Quested monitors

    8. _______________________________________
    9. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone
    10. ADK Tube Condenser Commemorative Edition microphone power box (supplies both power and phantom power)
    Software...
    11. Top-end operating system = Comes with Mac Mini
    12. Logic Pro X music program = £139.99
    Existing configuration:
ViewSonic HDMI 1080p Full HD LED monitor goes into PowerMac G4 (PowerPC processor) computer
PCI-424 soundcard within computer (works in conjunction with MOTU 2408 mk3 unit)
MOTU 2408 mk3 used as my audio interface for sound in and sound out. This means that the sound comes out of computer via the MOTU 2408 and out of my Quested monitors (they are active so self-powered) which are attached to the MOTU's outputs.
When I record vocals I sing into my ADK microphone (this microphone sources its own power from its own box which also feeds it Phantom Power) which is connected by a mic to jack cable to the Focusrite compressor which is connected by jack to jack cable to the MOTU 2408 which then goes into my computer via a firewire cable.
When I play keyboards or use my keyboard as a midi controller it connects to my computer via the MOTU micro lite (midi-usb interface).
I don't currently have a keyboard. I used to use my basic Yamaha PSR-540 keyboard as a midi controller but as it's not weighted and faulty I needed to get a new one. We got a new one via Thomann which was the M-Audio Pro Keys 88 keyboard but this quickly became faulty. We returned it and have since been considering other weighted keyboards. I am simply wanting a keyboard with Aftertouch, either 76 or 88 keys, weighted keys and very importantly, hammer action where the action is fast. I don't care for other controllers on the keyboard, on-board sounds, iPad compatibility or whatever.
    My Questions:
Q1) Can you recommend any keyboards meeting my specifications?
Q2) I can't imagine any of the Blue or other USB mics competing with my ADK and I'm quite happy with it. For vocals and when I've wanted to play the keyboard in as audio (not as a midi controller) I've used the Focusrite compressor to boost the sound. I'm not using many functions/presets on the compressor as I know it's best to record the sound of vocals mostly raw, is this correct, and if so is it worth me continuing to use this compressor or sell it?
Q3) Do I need to have the MOTU micro lite (midi to usb) unit? Don't most keyboards these days connect direct usb to usb on the computer?
Q4) I'm happy and used to the sound out from my Quested monitors. I'm happy and used to the sound in using my ADK microphone. What do I need for these to work best with the Mac Mini? Is my MOTU 2408 good for this, or is another MOTU product needed, or another product altogether?
Q5) Depending on (Q4) do I need a soundcard installed in the Mac Mini as I read on a forum that these days the audio interface acts like the soundcard?
Q6) I have such a bad connection to the internet it's like I have Dial-up!!! I use Airport Wireless which is connected to a router downstairs, which is 02 Broadband. Internet's not an issue downstairs on my girlfriend's intel PC which also uses a wireless connection but not Airport. Is this a problem because of my Airport, or do I need to get a router for upstairs, or should I connect it directy to the router downstairs by ethernet cable?
    Many thanks!

Is there a reason you don't want to use your current Tascam?

How do I adjust display resolution for Mac Mini? Text does not look crisp.  Using Samsung 27 inch monitor with HDMI input

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays. Depending on your version of Mac OS X, it may be set for "Best for Display" in which case it should already be set at the optimum for your monitor, or it may display resolution options in which case you should set it for the native resolution of your display.

My thuderbolt display is 3 weeks old which I'm using as display for my mac mini. I no longer get the display on but can hear the sound. Please suggest.

Make sure the mini-displayport/TB plug is fully seated.  It may look fully plugged in but isn't.
Make sure the Displays system preferences has an Arrangement tab.  No Arrangement means the monitor is not being detected.
    Do a smc reset.
If none of this works I suggest you take it back to apple (along with your mini).

    12. Can I output via Mini DisplayPort to an RCA or S-Video connection?
No. The Mini DIsplayPort connector allows output to Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort, VGA, DVI, and HDMI connections when using the proper cables and adapters. However, output to RCA, Component, or S-Video connections is not supported.
    - The current Mini as one HDMI out. The Min somes with a HDMI to DVI adopter. Howver, the HDMI output only outputs digital signal and thus yo will need a converter to convert that digital signal to analogue composite
    - The Min also comes with a Thunderbolt port which accepts the min display connector. However. based on 12 above it does not seem to support composite. The 12 is from

  • I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini

I can't use my Philips monitor with Mac mini, I am using a HDMI to VGA cable to connect them. But no signal on my Philips monitor.
My Mac mini is in a good condition, it can connect with my HDTV, the BENQ monitor at my office, but I can't make it connect with my Philips monitor.
    I dun know what happen.
    Please help!
    Thanks!

The two are incompatible, HDMI is a digital signal and VGA is an analog signal. You need a monitor with a HDMI port or a DVI-I port, these are both digital signals. DVI-I gives the best output.

  • How can I add a second display to my Mac Mini

How can I add a second display to my Mac Mini (mid 2011). HDTV and standard monitor working simultaneously.

True ... but that can be tricky.
Macs can only power so much, and only through approved/proper adapters.
Running two monitors off a single MDP-to-VGA adapter may not work, because Mac may not nicely exchange-talk the simultaneous signals.
There is an adapter that will convert a single minidisplayport to two VGA plugs, but that adapter is $100 instead of $30 (for the single) because it has special hardware in the adapter itself to manage the two signals sinultaneously.
    Alternately ...
Running one through the minidisplayport and one through the HDMI port makes them two separate signals to be processed.
