Studio or Express?

I hummed a tune into GB and now want to see the score for this tune so that I can create scores for instruments to go with it. I was told I needed logic to do this. My question is can it be done in express or can this only be done in studio?

I understand and can use music theory but I do not have the skills to play equal to the song in my head. I do not have perfect pitch and therefore need the computer to transcribe the music that I hear. Once that is done, I can do the rest. If I had perfect pitch, I would not need to have help with the transcription. I used dogpile rather than google -- google is not the answer for everyone. I just thought since you made this comment, you might have a specific program in mind.

Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows - InitializeComponent() does not contain a definition issue

I have recently downloaded Visual Studio 2013 Express for Windows (Windows Store App version), with Update 1.
I create a blank app. I right-click on InitializeComponent() in the MainPage.xaml.cs and select Go To Definition. It brings me to the .g.i.cs file where this method resides.
I go into the designer for MainPage.xaml and create a grid of 2 rows and 2 columns (all at 1*). I add one button, doesn't matter where. I double click on that button to add a click method to MainPage.xaml.cs. Without entering anything into the button click
method, I scroll up and InitializeComponent() has an error and tells me there is not definition, even though I was looking at the definition a minute ago. I found I could unload the project and reload it and InitializeComponent() would have the definition
in the .g.i.cs file but as soon as I add another button click or anything else I run into the same error. It seems as if the .g.i.cs file is not automatically regenerating, or it is being deleted all together when the button click method is added to the xaml.cs
file.
Everything I have done up to this point is very vanilla. I installed VS '13 Express for Windows, didn't change any VS setting, created a project and ran into this issue. I installed Update 1 thinking there might be a fix from the update--no luck. The xaml
file Build Action is Page and the Xaml.cs file is Compile.
I have tried deleting the MainPage.xaml file, after the creation of a project, and adding a new MainPage file with the added templates VS wants to include, and I still run into the same issue.
I have searched for answers the past few days but haven't found anything that addresses my issue (most of what I found addresses VS '10 but their InitializeComponent() issues aren't the same as mine). Any help the MSDN community can provide would be
a great help. If worst comes to worst, I will re-install VS and see if that corrects it--this would be a last-ditch effort though.

Intellisense has a bug in VS2013 where it doesn't recognize InitializeComponent when you start working on the XAML. My feeling is that if you try to compile this app, it will run fine (as long as there are no actual errors).

Hi,
I'm using Logic Express v7 yet, but consider upgrading to either Studio or Express v8. I remember there was a nice feature comparison chart for Pro v7 vs Express v7. I couldn't find this for the new versions. Did anyone else?

Registration Key for Visual Studio 2008 Express

When trying to register Visual Studio 2008 Express, I get directed to a page that no longer exists. How am I supposed to get a registration key for it?
I don't actually need the GUI, just the command line compiler. Is the compiler affected by the registration?
And I can not move to a newer version because of compatibility issues. The newest version that I can use is 2008.

You really have no choice. Visual Studio 2008 Express is no longer supported. It's time to move on.
The only way out, if you really really really can't evolve to a newer version (and I really question why you can't) is to purchase a retail version of Visual Studio 2008.

Sharepoint 2013 - Can I use Visual Studio 2012 express edition for web-parts and app parts?

Unable to install microsoft sql server management studio 2008 express

When i install management studio 2008 express, throws an error stating that "SQL server 2008 Setup reqiures Microsoft .NET framework from http:.... and then rerun setup.
Can any body help me in this, and also i have installed .NET framework 3.5.

According to your description, we need to verify if you install and enable the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, it is a prerequisite for SQL Server 2008 standalone instance.
In the setup, the SP-bit must be set to “1″, you can do as follows:
Open the registry editor and browse to the key,
Then locate the value SP, double-click it and change it from zero to”1”.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v3.5

Sun studio 12 express

I have question about sun studio 12 express. We now have project group that we can create multiple free project and group them together.
I checkin all the proejct in the CVS but can't find the project group file.
What I mean is if I checkout projects from cvs I can open it project group on another workstation.
My use case.
1. hello1, hello2 and hello3 projects.
2. I create project group Level_0 which includes all three projects.
3. check in cvs
4. chekout cvs module on another workstation
5. I loose the Level_0 project group
why???
How can I store project group in cvs so I can checkout and open all the project at once. In reality I have 50 projects with various levels with dependecies.
I really need this project group. It's like workspace in PC world. :-)

This information is not project specific, but IDE specific, so it is stored only in your userdir and can not be shared.

Develop Text Input Service with Vistual Studio 2013 Express for Desktop

1 . Can we develop Text Input Service using TSF with Visual Studio 2013 Express?
2. How to deploy this text input service application onto PC or tablet? According to MS guideline(https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh967425.aspx), it seems we have to create an installer from Installsheild, then deploy this installer
to PC/tablet, but this is really inconvenient for debug purpose. Do we have other ways to deploy?

Visual Studio 2012 Express and 2013 Professional won't open

I have downloaded both Visual Studio 2012 Express and 2013 Profession and both stop working when I open them. I have been using the developers command prompt from 2013 to run some c++ code. I need the program for my c++ class so please

Is there any specific error message occur when you open VS?
Because of there is not enough information for troubleshoot, I will give you some advice:
First, reboot the machine into safe mode. This can isolate some third part application.
Second, you can use Devenv.exe Command Line to start the VS and collect logs for troubleshooting:
You could type ‘Devenv.exe /SafeMode’, which starts Visual Studio in safe mode, loading only the default environment and services.
You could create a log file (‘Devenv.exe /log’ ) on your drive. If this issue exists still, you could invest your log file to narrow down the issue.
More information about Devenv.exe Command Line, you could refer the following link:

Third, you should make sure you can successfully install the VS. Please use collect.exe utility to collect VS install logs to see whether the VS installation is success:

Visual studio web express 2013 with update 4 downloading stuck

I think your VS may have been corrupted. I suggest you click "repair" to repair your VS.
If it can't solve your issue, please use ISO file to reinstall it.
If you used a web installer, please download the ISO file from the website.

Before you reinstall it,please use this tool

Visual Studio 2013 Profession vs. Visual Studio 2013 Express

One of my colleagues tried to open a .sln file created with Visual Studio 2013 Professional Edition using Visual Studio 2013 Express Desktop. He got messages about project files being incompatible. Is it not possible to do this?

How do i use directX in microsoft visual basic studio 2010 express ?

i am writing code to graph stock market prices using microsoft visual basic studio express
i want fast response (i do machine language) using directX
this is my problem
i have never used directX, and i have never used directX in visual basic studio
i followed a tutorial that went like this

the same error occurs wether i use direct3DX \1.0.2911.0 or \1.0.2902.0
when i built and ran, i got error #2

can somebody give me a dozen lines of directX code that will work with my system, so that i can at least draw a line using directX 2D and 3D ?

How To: Use Visual Studio, IIS Express, and Adobe Edge Inspect to view local projects

You CAN view a Visual Studio project with Adobe Inspect. The work around takes a little bit of time.
This involves using IIS Express to run your Visual Studio project, which is mainly a setting in Visual Studio, a Firewall change, a few command line and IIS Express config change. It isn't actually all that bad, but will make your life A LOT easier.
Here are the steps. (Note these are steps I used for Visual Studio 2012 and your project is part of a solution project. Windows 7 or Windows 8)
1. If IIS in not turned on, turn it on.How to: Enable Internet Information Services (IIS) - this should install IIS Express as well.
2. In Visual Studio, find the port that Visual Studio will be using for your project by Running your web project (Debug), and note/write down/save the port number that shows up in the browser when the project launches. (ex. http://localhost:12345)
3. Add a NetShare Reservation (process for this will be different for Windows XP)
Go to your Command Line (CMD) in Windows and in c:\Windows\system32> type in
netsh http add urlacl url=http://yourIPaddress:yourPortNumber user=everyone
(ex. netsh add urlacl url=http://12.34.56.78:12345 user=everyone)
Hit Enter key. You should be a successful add reservation message
3. Go to your Windows Explorer (File system) and go to c:/Users/YourName/MyDocuments (or Documents)/IISExpress/config/ and open 'applicationhost.config'
In the 'applicationhost.config' file find your site in the <sites> section.
Example:

                    <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="C:\MyProjects\TestSite" />
                </application>
                <bindings>
                    <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation=":12345:localhost" />

In this section ADD 2 new lines to the <bindings> section. Note add your own IP address and your own Computer Name
<binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:12345:12.34.56.78" />
<binding protocol="http" bindingInformation=":12345:MyComputerName" />
Save the config file.
4. Open up your Windows Firewall and go to 'Advanced Settings'. Here you want to create an Inbound Rule.
Right click on Inbound Rule and select New Rule
- Rule Type select 'Custom'
- Program leave this
- Protocol and Ports > Protocol Type select 'TCP' then Local Port select 'Specific Port' and fill in the port number you got from VS. Leave Remote Port alone.
- Scope
There are a few ways of doing this. Typically you would go the the Remote IP address and select 'These IP addresses: and select ADD > select 'Predefined set of computers' and choose Local Subnet. IF this does not work leave Remote IP addresses > Any IP address option selected instead.
- Action leave this
- Profile select Domain and Private
- Name put IISExpressWeb for the name
Select 'Finish'
5. Go to Visual Studio. (Note if you have multiple projects in your solution, choose your start up project. Right click on your project in Solution Explorer in VS and select 'Set as Start Up Project' )
Right click on your start up project again and you should see an option to 'Use IISExpress'
In the DEBUG dropdown (from the main menu bar at the top) select 'YourProjectName Properties'. Mine was the last one in the list with a wrench icon next to it.
This should open an new tab in your project, You should see a left hand list of option and a right hand column of options.
In the left column select 'Web' and in this tab select Use Local IIS Web server and select 'Use IIS Express' and type in your IP Address and port number (same as before) in the Project Url text box.
Save.
NOW, you should be able to run your project in Visual Studio and use Adobe Edge Inspect on your device and view new results in Chrome. You can develop from there.
If you still can not see it working, please be sure your device is on the same SubNet or Wireless network as your computer. If you are in a large network but the domains can still see each other, the Firewall Setting detailed above to allow Any IP Address in your Scope section.
