Studio Pro 1.5 and Tiger

I'm trying to burn a DVD using an old version of DVD Studio Pro (v. 1.5), but it keeps crashing whenever I try to "Build and Format Disc."
The "Build Disc" function works. I have the "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folders and they play just fine on the Apple DVD Player. But I want to burn it on a disc but whenever I try it the application quits immediately.
I know I'm using an out of date version - but it's what I have...
I just recently updated to Tiger, and this is the first time I've tried creating a DVD since then. Are there compatibility problems with older versions of Studio Pro and Tiger?
I'm using an older machine as well. PowerPC G4 450mhz. I know that iDVD won't run on my machine, so I'm a little concerned about upgrading to a newer version of Studio Pro, even if I could afford it.
I have an older version of Toast (Titanium 5.2), but I've never tried burning DVD's with it. Studio Pro has always worked for me.
If I drop the VIDEO and AUDIO folders into a separate folder can I burn that directly using Apples built in CD burning tool? And will that create a DVD that will work on regular players?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
450mhz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were some compatibility issues with v1.5 and Tiger... they are several years apart and Tiger uses very different underlying architecture than earlier versions from Jaguar's era.
If you can build a disc image from v1.5 then you could burn that using Toast, but as long as Toast is recent enough to list DVD in it's output options you should be OK.
If you can only build, and have the two folders sitting there, you can still use Toast. As I recall, you need to look in the 'Other' dropdown menu in that version of Toast, and select DVD from there. You need to ensure that this is a UDF disc (I can't now remember if that was in the advanced settings for Toast or listed in that drop down), and once set you drage the Audio_TS and Video_TS folder into the Toast window. As long as the disc you create is UDF, and that those two folders are at the root of the disc, then you should be OK to create a DVD that will play in a set top player.

PDF Search, but I think is not the best way to search because it shows too much useless results.

A way of editing the DVD Project Source Code. Let me explain: in some big projects I just need to change the Jump from "button_1" to "button_2", and to do that I need to find the button under my menus and choose it from a list. If I can just type "2" instead of "1" it will be faster and error-free.
Advancing in this idea, if I can open the entire link list as a Source Code in TextEdit, I can see all the buttons and link all of them without seeking for each on menus.
Today the Connections Tab helps a lot, but I still need to find the button un the menus. With 5 or 4 menus is easy, but sometimes I have 50...

  • Please, suggestion about final cut x, dvd studio pro, sound track and color

what to do now, final cut studio cannot exist in same partition of fc x, but at same time fcx does not have anymore dvd studio pro, color and soundtrack, is it replacing the 3 programs? are you really satisfied of it?

Try building the project to your desktop and then open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application.
How does it play/sound?  This application is the best way to see and hear how your burned DVD should play vs. just using simulator and burning.
Just to clarify- are you taking your FC QT file into Compressor and creating a MPG-2 and AC3 file or are you bringing your FC QT directly into DSP?
What codec are you exporting from FC? ProRes422, DV, H264?
Open the FC QT in QT and apple+I to see this.
What does it say for audio?

  • DVD Studio Pro/MPEG Streamclip and PAL

    Hello All:
I'm trying to convert several PAL DVDs to NTSC. I'm using MPEG Streamclip to convert the PAL VIDEO_TS folders. Then I'm compiling them on Studio Pro.
My Streamclip settings are as follows:
    Export to Other Formats>
    Quicktime>
    DV/DVCPRO NTSC>
    Best>
    29.97>
    16:9>
    740 x 480>
    48KHz/16bit
I'm getting a lot of artifacting (picture shifts during pans, jagged edges (interlacing?), etc.)
They don't look bad on my computer monitors in either app, but of course a burned DVD playing on a real-world Sony broadcast monitor tells a much different story.
Does anyone have any setting(s) suggestions to smooth over these problems?
    Thanks!!

First off, thanks to everyone for all your great suggestions.
Agreed that the material was compressed to begin with. (Begin rant)...I'm amazed that so many people have a finished DVD they've spent hundreds on, yet apparently have no access to source material or even assets. No matter how I try to explain why the finished product won't look as good as what they gave me, the response is "it's DVD--DVD always looks great. Why can't you make it look great?" (end of rant, thanks...)
I'm on a PPC running Final Cut Studio 1 (so ProRes is unavailable to me). I took the footage to another system (Intel dual-core running FCS 3), used ProResLT, and to tell you the truth, I didn't see any noticeable difference--fade ups/downs are jerky, jagged lines between light & dark areas, etc. I'm also playing them back on both Sony and JVC broadcast monitors. I did some research on past threads, and downloaded and used JES Deinterlacer--no change. Even untrained eyes notice the problems.
I guess I was looking for someone who had had the same issue, and had a silver bullet to share with me. I've been on this for two days now, and my options are drying up. If I do succeed, somehow, I'll report back on what I did.
    Thanks again.

  • DVD Studio Pro--Formatting Failed, and failed, and failed, and failed

HI!! I've experienced my first HD crash and the only files I have left of several pieces are the m2v and aiff files that were generated by Compressor for use w/DVD StudioPro. Now that the HD is gone(and this would happen before, even when the HD wasn't connected to the computer, which I never understood, as I thought that the output of Compressor were stand alone files) anyway, now that the hard drive is gone, DVD studio pro will not format for a burn.
Once the Initialize screen appears, I get an error box stateing:
Formatting failed Building not successful, see log.
    the log reads:
    Starting DVD Build QUICK_REEL...
    Compiler File Error
    Build cancelled
    Formatting finished.
Building was not successful. See log.
I'm freakin out because these are the only copies left. Nor am I able to export a stable format of the m2v, for instance converting to mpg so that I can make masters.
    HELP!~!
    Dave O'
    [email protected]

    Hi Dave,
So from what I understand the only change is the new hard drive? What I would do while the project is closed delete all the PAR folders associated with the project and reopen the project. This should highlight any errors concerning finding the footage.
My other note is have you changed the type of drive attached to your computer? Some external drives don't work so well with DVDSP. Moving the assest on board your computer is one way to skin this cat.
    Good Luck

  • Dvd Studio Pro on formats and wont burn.

I created a menu on dvd studio pro and when I try to burn it, it only goes through the process of Formatting and it finishes. I cant play it on any dvd player, I'm pretty sure thats because its only formatted and not burnt. I cant seem to get it to burn. Any suggestions?

    Wikileak:
It works even though it doesn't work.
While the display of colors in the pop-up menu is broken under Mac OS X 10.9, the palette is still there and works for setting colors.  Choosing the first blank spot in the Color pop-up menu sets that first color in the palette, choosing the second blank spot on the Color pop-up menu sets the second color in the in the palette, etc.  Of course, this was sooooo much easier when the Color pop-up menu displayed color swatches as expected.
If you click the "Edit Palette" button at the bottom, the colors in the Edit Palette dialog box from left to right correspond to the Color pop-up menu from top to bottom.  So, the color in row one, column one of the Edit Palette dialog will be the first blank in the Color pop-up list.  The color in the row one, column two will be the second color in the pop-up list and so forth.
I set the colors for a title in the Edit Palette and take a screen shot, then reference that while using the Color pop-up menu.
If your machine will boot 10.7.5, an alternative is to create a startup volume just for setting the colors and switch to 10.9.5 for finishing the disc.

  • Questions about Using Lightroom and Print Studio Pro

I want to use Print Studio pro via the lightroom plugin since as I understand it, that is the only way to ensure a 16-bit file is being passed to the printer (on Windows).  However, I am a little confused about how the image is being rendered.  Is lightroom applying a default output sharpening to the file before handing it off to Print Studio Pro or Does Print Studio Pro manage resolution and Output sharpening based on the media and print size you choose?
So basically I am wondering if there is any output sharpening being applied, and when is it applied.  The possibilities I think would be:
Lightroom is applying a default output sharpening when rendering the file to TIF for Print Studio Pro (If this is the case, what setting is being applied and is it possible to change it?)
Print Studio Pro is applying output sharpening based on media type and print size, or applying a generiz amount of sharpening that does not take into account media or size.
No Sharpening is being applied.  In this case, I should probably be exporting this file manually with output sharpening applied and then opening in Print Studio Pro
The other question I have is if when using the plugin is the TIF file that is being generated in 16-bit pro-photo to ensure the maximum amount of color data?
Because if Print Studio Pro is not applying sharpening I think it may just be better to print through the lightroom tool even though it renders down to 8-bit because the amount of control I have via the lightroom print module would be far more advantageous than any color data I am losing by printing in 8-bit.
Anyone know the answer to all this?

I had similar questions when I first got my Pro-100.
    1. You can call up PSP from any module, so I assume it is ignoring print module settings.
    2. If I select a Saved Print, which adjusts the print module settings specific to that print, and the open PSP the paper settings in PSP are not what is in LR, supporting the "ignore" conclusion.
    3. I ran some test prints using LR to print at three different output sharpening settings (Off, Standard, High) to ensure I could see a difference (I did).
    4. I ran four test prints: LR-Standard, XPS driver, LR-Standard regular driver, PSP using standard driver and PSP using XPS driver. I couldn't see any difference between the four prints.
Since LR is such an easy printing process I haven't seen a reason to use PSP.

  • H264/mp4 and  DVD studio pro

I have launched dvd studio pro after years and tried  to import a mp4 video file with h264 as codec, dvd sp, did not allow  me to make it,
Sorry for this such stupid question, but what are files extension that dvd sp can manage.

For best results, you need to convert to MPEG-2 video and AC-3 audio. This is easily done in Compressor although there are other apps that work as well.
Technically, you can use MPEG-1 video and PCM/WAV audio but that's a step backwards, and you could use H.264 to make a HD-DVD although the only players for that are a Mac, a PlayStation or an HD-DVD player which went out of production 6-8 years ago.
Use the presets for DVD in Compressor and all should be fine.
    hope this helps

  • Lost Compressor and DVD Studio Pro apps

I just finished a project on FCP and when I tried to export it to Compressor, I got a message that says " application not installed properly". I checked the dock and noticed a "question mark" on the application icon of both the Compressor and DVD Studio Pro. I then search the two of them in the Applications Table but couldn't find them there either. I inserted the DVD Studio Pro software disc and attempted to re-install the application. It was using space on the hard drive but it still not showing in the apps table. What is going on ? Can somebody help me with this ?!

Thanks Tom for the reply, I did as you recommended and was able to reinstall DVD studio Pro, but the Compressor is still missing. I mean, the icon is there but when I click to open the app, it only show the a bigger picture of the application but it doesn't open.

  • First few video frames 'stuttering' and then DVD Studio Pro hangs

Hi, I wonder if anyone can assist me with this problem...
I've been using Final Cut Studio for some time, with no issues with DVD Studio Pro. Now, whenever I import video assets into DVD Studio Pro, and then run simulate to see how the video will look, the first few frames of the video appear to 'stutter' and then jam on the screen; the audio keeps running fine.
Eventually DVD Studio Pro hangs-up and I have to use Force Quit to get out. If I don't simulate but just go-ahead with burning a DVD, the program still hangs.
When I view the same video in Quicktime, it's fine so it does not appear to be the video file...
Has something gone wrong with DVD Studio Pro, with it's preferences or something else? Any advice on what I should do? I can no longer burn DVDs because of this!
    Thanks.
    PowerMac G5 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   4.5 GB RAM

That's the problem, I can't get to the stage of actually building a DVD. I've attached assets, go to burn, and then the program hangs. If I view the video in simulate, it see that the few few frames are not advancing, just sort of hanging there, repeating pver and over, then it hangs. Viewing the video in QT it seems fine.
Help! Anyone seen this problem? What should I do, I have to burn a DVD for Monday! Thanks.

  • Final cut pro x/DVD studio pro

A need an advice, I been using Final cut pro to edit my professional wedding videos and DVD studio pro to burn and make menus, can anyone recommend me another professional software to to create menus and burn DVD, my mac has an dvd drive built in, if I buy an external DVD burner drive, would I get better quality (on standard DVD's)

I don't know why you want to change because Studio Pro is about the best software available.
An external burner will have no effect on the quality of the DVDs.
If you burn large numbers of DVDs an external burner might save wear and tear on your built in one.

  • Final Cut Sequence to Compressor to DVD Studio Pro

Running latest FCP Studio apps. Have a sequence fully edited and mixed (via Soundtrack) and sent the file to Compressor for output to DVD Studio Pro to create the DVD. I used the H.264 for DVDPro compression template (H.264 for DVDPro - 120 min) setting as provided by Apple. The compression file worked like a charm. I have the file and it plays beautifully in QT player. However when I try to add the asset or import it into DVDStudio Pro it says it is in an incompatible format. What gives? Shouldn't the template know how to render/compress the movie if the template setting is supposed to be in DVDStudio Pro format? Scratching my head on this one. Any pointers would be of great help.
File particulars: 3 1/2 minute movie (film student project) that was sent to compressor as a sequence file. Encoder template is set up for MPeg2 format using 7.34Mbps Average Bit Rate/23.00Mbps for Maximum Bit Rate/2.0 seconds for Frame Sync and Multi-pass and Include PCM Audio are checked (all are the default settings as provided by Apple).
Message was edited by: William Lutes

That would be a reasonable except that when I used those preset settings the file was unplayable by Quicktime OR DVDSP. QTPlayer wouldn't play it (as it was unrecognized file format) and DVDSP wouldn't import it. So I am at a loss on how to use compressor with the DVD setting templates. All I need is to compress the 3.5 minute movie file in a format that DVD Studio Pro will import and allow me to build and press to a DVD for family members to watch. I should add that I exported (via the Quicktime option in FCP) a movie file and then brought it into DVDSP but when I built the DVD it encoded the movie file in a very weird way (strange flicker when close up shots played on screen). When I just tried to change the encoding settings (in DVDSP) to allow for the least amount of effect on my file (basically the movie is only around 500mb uncompressed so a 4.7 blank dvd has more than enough room) DVDSP encoding still encoded the file in the strange flickering artifact manner.
The project is basically a simple menu with two options one to view the 3.5 minute movie file and the second is a 5 min behind the scenes explanation of the project by the director. All together the project file in DVDStudio Pro is around 650mb. So, the question now becomes: should I be bothering with Compressor at all and if I eschew its use then what can I do in DVDStudio Pro's encoding to have the least effect on the movie file (which plays fine without any flickering artifact before DVDSP gets its hands on it to build the DVD).
Any ideas? Thanks for chiming in btw, I do appreciate it.
