Studio pro 4.0.3 fails to burn

I am having burn issues on projects that have burned properly before. Dvd's prior to this little problem, when simply held up at looked at, appear to be solidly burned from the center out to the end of the burn. The discs with problems have a shadowed appearance starting at the center of the burn and continuing to about a third the way out. Attemps to play the poor dvd's result in a "Supported disc not available" alert.
Simple burns from "Finder" are fine.
I have dumped and reinstalled studio pro and made upgrades. Also ran utilities; seems fine there.
Next?

Hi - Welcome to the discussions
I'd suspect the media first in this situation.
As RatVega said, build to your hard drive as a disc image, then use the Finder to burn that (or use Toast) as a UDF DVD (the kind that will play in your set top box). If the burn is fine there then there is nothing wrong with your burner. You might consider cleaning the lens with a cleaning disc - and since these are so cheap it probably should be a part of your routine.
Next, check if the build file you made to your hard drive can be opened and played by DVDPlayer. If all is well, then there is nothing too much wrong with your project. You might use a FW hard drive to move it to a different computer and check it there as well... if it plays, then all is well.
So that just leaves the disc itself. Is this a good quality brand? A stack of new media you haven't used before? have you tried different media? Is it at a speed rating higher than your burner? If you burn in Toast, lower the speed to as low as it can go and burn there... slower burns produce discs with better compatibility in many, many cases!
In short you have a lot of checks to do to eliminate the different possibilities. Let us know the results as you go through them! Good luck!

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 USE WITH EXTERNAL DVD BURNER??

    Hello
Looking at buying DVD Studio Pro 4 for my mini but apple have just stated it will not install unless my machine has a superdrive. We've got an external firewire DVD burner and i've read mention of other versions of DVD Studio burning through externals so how come we carnt use DVD Studio Pro 4 with an external DVD burner?
Has anyone tried an external DVD burner with DVD Studio Pro 4 ?
    Cheers

This issue isn't external drives, it's the mini, and installing the program.
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/dvdstudiopro/specs.html
The specs do not seem to require an internal superdrive.

  • DVD Studio Pro 2 Won't let me burn DVDs

I've finished my project and it looks good. I even ran it through the simulator and everything checks out. However, when I go to burn it to DVD (4.7 GB), I get a dialog box that says that I need to insert a DVD, even though one is already in. Then I get another dialog box that tells me that the disc could not be burned because the drive could not be located...? Each time I attempt to burn the DVD, the disc gets automatically ejected by my computer when these dialog boxes pop up
How do I locate a drive that I can burn the disc in? What's the process for this? Is there another step that I must take before I can get to this process. I'm using DVD Studio Pro 2 and I have a mac mini with a superdrive. Please walk me through the process step-by-step. Thanks.

Which blank brand media are you using?
Also is it -R or +R?

  • Studio Pro "Unexpectedly Quits" when trying to BURN DVD...

How can I burn a DVD if it keeps kicking me to the curb every time I try? I used DISKWARRIOR to repair the hard drives, but that didn't do anything to solve my problem. I can't really think of anything else to do.
Thank you, smart people, for your time and your expertise.

    Hi
You can try * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP * and burning it with Disk Utility or Toast, selecting then a slower burning speed. DVDSP will try to burn using the max speed of your burner and sometimes that results in errors.
    Hope that helps !

  • Using Compressor DVD Studio Pro 4...will not burn files

I was working with an extreamly large video file that was exported as a Quicktime movie and was 69.2 GB and about 2 1/2 hours long. I imported it into the Compressor and chose the DVD file folder>Best Quality DVD 150 minutes and dragged both the video and audio sources onto the project then hit submit.  Once it was finished, I had 2 files video and audio...video (MPEG-2 3.99 GB ) audio (Professional 2.0 aC3) I then imported it into DVDSP 4 I went through dragging both files into track 1, setting chapter markers but I also in the dis/volume tab selected the dual layer option since this movie is very long...I also have the DVD+R double layer DVD for buring on to.  Once I click burn, it goes through the muxing and then formatting process which are both successful but then it pops the DVD out.  I also noticed during the process that in the Log, it notes that the video and audio files are not DVD-video files and will not be applied to the final DVD...I am assuming that it is not recognizing these files, is there a way to fix this perhaps in Compressor first?
    Thanks

    Hello, see if Burn.app works...
    http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
    Converting.
Forget worrying about conversion. Burn will take your video and audio files and turns them in the right format.
In the preferences you can set the options for quality and size.

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.0.2 won't burn my DVDs that I have always used

I am trying to burn a DVD in DVDSP 4.0.2 and it comes up with errors around the media being mismatched or incorrect, etc...  It is the same media I have always used with great success (I bought a lot of blank media).  It seems as though ever since I updated my OS to Leopard I have had issues with this same media... coming up with these errors. Would a newer OS make the media suddenly not work in the same DVD drive? Not sure what else it could be...
    Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help in advance

It may be worth getting the lend of an external drive to eliminate your hardware .. can you write DVD's data with any other software such as Toast or even using the OS to backup data to a DVD drive. How old are the blanks ..I once had a faulty batch of 100 a while back and it turned out they had been in the store for two years ..With that in mind try a new one not out of that batch .. All of this may be of no help but it is typical of the things I would try to attempt to narrow the field of suspects down a bit.

  • DVD Studio Pro--Formatting Failed, and failed, and failed, and failed

HI!! I've experienced my first HD crash and the only files I have left of several pieces are the m2v and aiff files that were generated by Compressor for use w/DVD StudioPro. Now that the HD is gone(and this would happen before, even when the HD wasn't connected to the computer, which I never understood, as I thought that the output of Compressor were stand alone files) anyway, now that the hard drive is gone, DVD studio pro will not format for a burn.
Once the Initialize screen appears, I get an error box stateing:
Formatting failed Building not successful, see log.
    the log reads:
    Starting DVD Build QUICK_REEL...
    Compiler File Error
    Build cancelled
    Formatting finished.
Building was not successful. See log.
I'm freakin out because these are the only copies left. Nor am I able to export a stable format of the m2v, for instance converting to mpg so that I can make masters.
    HELP!~!
    Dave O'
    [email protected]

    Hi Dave,
So from what I understand the only change is the new hard drive? What I would do while the project is closed delete all the PAR folders associated with the project and reopen the project. This should highlight any errors concerning finding the footage.
My other note is have you changed the type of drive attached to your computer? Some external drives don't work so well with DVDSP. Moving the assest on board your computer is one way to skin this cat.
    Good Luck

  • Dvd Studio Pro on formats and wont burn.

I created a menu on dvd studio pro and when I try to burn it, it only goes through the process of Formatting and it finishes. I cant play it on any dvd player, I'm pretty sure thats because its only formatted and not burnt. I cant seem to get it to burn. Any suggestions?

    Wikileak:
It works even though it doesn't work.
While the display of colors in the pop-up menu is broken under Mac OS X 10.9, the palette is still there and works for setting colors.  Choosing the first blank spot in the Color pop-up menu sets that first color in the palette, choosing the second blank spot on the Color pop-up menu sets the second color in the in the palette, etc.  Of course, this was sooooo much easier when the Color pop-up menu displayed color swatches as expected.
If you click the "Edit Palette" button at the bottom, the colors in the Edit Palette dialog box from left to right correspond to the Color pop-up menu from top to bottom.  So, the color in row one, column one of the Edit Palette dialog will be the first blank in the Color pop-up list.  The color in the row one, column two will be the second color in the pop-up list and so forth.
I set the colors for a title in the Edit Palette and take a screen shot, then reference that while using the Color pop-up menu.
If your machine will boot 10.7.5, an alternative is to create a startup volume just for setting the colors and switch to 10.9.5 for finishing the disc.

  • To create a PAL DVD in DVD Studio Pro...

I simply took my NTSC Uncompressed Quicktime File, put it into Compressor, and when I converted the file to MPEG 2 I changed the Video Format to PAL in the Inspector Settings. I didn't make any changes to the AC3 settings...
When the m2v and AC3 files were created I put them into DVD Studio Pro in a PAL Project and burned a DVD...
I watched the DVD on my MacBook Pro computer in DVD Player and it looked great and the sound synced up and everything. I put the DVD into my Playstation 3 and tried to watch it on my NTSC TV Monitor and a message came up saying "Playstation doesn't support PAL format"...
So it seems like everything worked correctly. Did it? I need to send this DVD to the Edinburgh International Film Festival and I want to make sure it will work.
    Thanks!
    Mike

The Best Buy Blueray player to get is the Playstation 3. Someone here said that as a Blueray player it's terrible compared to a designated Blueray player, and he may be right, but my local high-end audio store said the Playstation 3 is actually a very good Blueray disc player. These guys are very reputable so I'm not sure what this other guy is talking about. I'm sure there are designated players that are better than the Playstation 3, but they can't be $400 either. And I personally thought the quality of my Blueray disc on my Playstation 3 was awesome, though of I've not watched the disc on a designated player for comparison. Hope this helps...

  • Blurry Text from DVD Studio Pro

Hello, I've created 4 'slide show' type presentations in motion 2. Project settings are:
    Width: 1360
    Height: 768
    Bit Depth: 8 Bit
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720, 1440x1080) 1.33
    Field Order: None
    Frame Rate:59.94 fps
    Render Settings:
    Motion Blur: Samples: 8
    Shutter Angle: 360
    Output: Antialiasing Method: Best
I've tried many many compression settings:
    MPEG-2 6.2Mbps 2-pass 16/9.m2v
    Uncompressed 10-bit NTSC.mov
Importing raw motion files into DVD Studio Pro
All of the resulting dvds burned from DVD Studio pro look pixelated and blurry when played on a dvd player onto a Toshiba 32HL86. Unfortunately its an SD dvd player connectedt to the tv, so not sure if that has a major impace.
    DVD Studio Pro Settings are:
    Project: SD DVD
    Video Standard: NTSC
    General:
SD DVD Menus, Tracks and Slideshows:
    Display Mode: 16:9 Letterbox
    Encoding:
    MPEG-2-SD
    Aspect Ratio: 16:9
    Field Order: Auto
    Mode: One PAss VBR
    Bit Rate: 6.8
    Max Bit Rate: 8.0
    Motiion Estimation: Best
I am at my wits end, can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I'm not an expert, but have recently had similar problems with graphics that had text, black lines, lots of contrast, and movement. They looked great on HD but when I made a SD DVD, they were very blocky and pixellated - completely unusable. After lots of experimentation, I've finally got an acceptable dvd. Went back to my original shots - in Final Cut, (I'm not sure if you can do this in Motion) and carefully applied a little Gaussian Blur (.25 to1) to each according to how badly they pixellated. Also adjusted blacks and whites so they weren't so contrasty. Then made my mpeg with Compressor - two pass vbr, 6.8 mbps, best motion estimator. The Gaussian Blur seems to break up the areas that get blocked up and pixelated. SD dvd is such a lousy low resolution medium anyway, that it doesn't seem to result in any focus problems and helped most shots - I've even gone back and applied it to some of the regular footage that was pixellating. It was a lot of work, you may want to see if an expert weighs in on this.

  • Creating a menu and overlay from Motion to DVD Studio Pro

I have created a menu in Motion. My menu plays a short video first before the menu choices come up. After sending it to DVD Studio Pro I noticed that when I burned it I could not access the menu options with my DVD player, only when I played it on my computer and used a mouse.
I tried creating an overlay and using that, but because my buttons do not display right away I am seeing one of the overlay icons right from the beginning.
If there is anyone out there with a suggestions on how I can fix this or create it differently so that I don't have these problems, please let me know!!!

Couple of things, first you need to make sure you assign navigation for the buttons, which is why the remote control on the DVD Player did not work, yet you can mouse over in the computer [Assign Navigation|http://dvdstepbystep.com/buttons07.php] and [a thread|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9134310&#9134310]
As to overlays, buttons will not appear (the highlights) until the loop point of the menu, but if ellements are in the background (video) then they will appear. If you do not want those items (in the background) to appear to the loop point you need to fade it in or otherwise do whatever effect you want in the background video. • Non - admin users and DVD Studio Pro

I discovered a problem with DVD Studio Pro 4.0.1 trying to burn a dvd from a non-administrator and managed user. This is in a lab with students so we try to keep them out from changing administrator settings.
The problem is once the DVD is made and they go to build it, the assets won't encode. In particular any of the templates that they use. I had to log the student in as an administrator in order to build and format a dvd (They do have permissions set to burn dvds on the computers)
I can't seem to find anything about this, does anyone know or have experienced a similar problem and been able to solve it?

I am not even sure if this could be the solution or not, but have you tried messing around with your preferences.
In the Destinations Tab, there is a setting for Encoding:
    You can specify the Path:
This is set to my Users/me/Library/ ....etc
Maybe try to set it to a different path?
Not sure if that will help, but just thought id try.
Maybe hit the Encoding Tab and select Background Encoding so it doesn't do it on the Build.
Let us know how it goes.

  • DVD studio pro 4 encoding help!!

Hi all, i have a bit of a problem when using DVD Studio Pro 4.
I need to burn DVCPRO 1080i footage of train tracks to SD, however the encoding to MPEG2 within DVD Studio pro 4 at 7 mbps leaves a tiling effect on the tracks. The only way around this that i have found is to convert the clip to SD using quicktime then take it into DVD stuio pro and encode to MPEG2, this works however it is very time consuming and i need the footage to stay in the original format, am i missing something here or does it just not like DVCPRO 1080i footage taken straight into it? Please help!!
    Many thanks, Steve

Whether you use DVDSP, Compressor, QT conversion, bitvice, etc., the media will be converted to SD mpeg2 when it goes on the SD DVD. You may find you get better results by using compressor to encode if you turn on the frame controls, which can enable better detail when the image is resampled down to SD. There are several advantages I find in my workflow to using Compressor rather than letting DVDSP do my encoding. If you are really interested, I can spell them out, but try it out and see if you get better quality on your DVD.

  • How can I cut off part of a movie in DVD Studio Pro  created in Quicktime?

I created a project in iMovie, then exported it to a Quicktime file to import into DVD Studio Pro. Now that I have imported it to DVD Studio Pro, it is too big to burn onto 1 disc. I would like to be able to chop off a few minutes of the movie in DVD Studio Pro, but Im not sure how to do it. I am assuming there is some way to chop off part of a movie in the Track editor - can anyone please help with this?
    Thanks

Yes, you can trim a track, but it is a rudimentary control, and not frame accurate.
I think Hal has oversimplified: the process is frame accurate - it is just that your choice of edit points is limited to 'I frames' only. 'I frames' occur about every 12 frames, or 1/2 second, for a typical PAL mpeg2 video track, and every 15 frames, or 1/2 second, for a typical NTSC mpeg2 video track.
