Studying abap

hi friends
I am very new to ABAP and programming
& I know the point that you people are terribly busy but if you could answer this I would be grateful:-
which one is better for learning ABAP
i] the help portal of SAP--BC ABAP PROGRAMMING
OR else the
II]] THE abapdocu TRANSACTION
Since I do not find a match between them .
regards
abaper.learner

Actually...They are kinda different as you may see....<b>SAP--BC ABAP PROGRAMMING</b> is like a book, while <b>ABAPDOCU</b> is a transaction where you can find some useful examples...Another good transaction for you is <b>DWDM</b>
BTW, I'm moving this thread to the correct forum -:)
Greetings,
Blag.

  • ABAP General Doubt!

    Hi all!
I want to know in future abap was replacing by java then what about abap programmers i am intrested in abap than java what will happen to abapers like me  what i ve to do now.
Do i ve a good career in abap if i study abap pls give your suggestions.
Thanking you all for your replies
       Rahul.

    Hi Rahul,
Java cannot Replace ABAP at Point of time as Java is following up ABAP in SAP.
Most of the Products getting released in SAP are  based on ABAP than Java..
Java is the second best language to learn in SAP.ABAP is the Star alwayz..
Nothing can beat ABAP.Go ahead with ABAP.
    Cheers,
    Hakim

  • Success rate for ABAP certification

    Hello Everybody,
I'm upbeat on taking the ABAP certification from Siemens. But I'm quite apprehensive about the course because of my background. I've no programming experience so far . I completed my MS in VLSI from Canada a month before and I'm studying ABAP from a local instititute.
Could you anyone pls suggest me that how much is the success rate for a person who is totally new to programming. Also can I go ahead with the certification.
    all your comments are invaluable..
    thanks,
    karthikeyan

    karthikeyan,
I have a different view on the topic, and would like to share it with you.
I don't think that going for ABAP at this point is the best move to do (Specially if you live in Canada). The main reason for that is that ABAP tasks are being constantly outsourced to Asia (and as you can see from the forums - there are plenty of ABAP gurus out there). If you want to be a programmer, then i would opt for a Java certification. If you want do something related to SAP and you are starting from scratch i would recommend on Portal and XI (exchange Infrastructure), both are more in demand that ABAP, and are "hotter" in the market.
    My two cents,
    Gili

  • Is SAP going 2 kill abap.....

    HI FRNDS,
i hav a doubt, now most sap people's where speaking abt Java only.... and many of them telling that ABAP lose its position........ they also telling that people who know JAVA only hav feature in SAP dev ...... some of them telling that now a days the development project r only done with the help of java and abap r using only 4 maintenance work............ i want 2 know wether its true r false???????... i start 2 study abap but i don't know java......... i don't know what 2 do......when i check SAP site.... mostly they also put more abt JAVA only few topic abt abap... is sap is going 2 kill its child abap ..............

    HI ANU,
""sap is going 2 kill its <b>child</b> abap ..............""
thats your last line quote. When somebody going to mad then its possible to KILL its child. In your question the answer is hidden.

  • Is it  ABAP kaputt ?

    Hi Everyone ,
I heard so many things about  abap and java , that I please want to know your opinion , is it true that java is already replacing abap , could be interesting for a new programmer in sap start to study abap instead of abap. thnx for your recomendations.

    Hi
It mainly depends upon your background knowledge. For e.g if you are familiar with c lang
Choose ABAP as it developed using C only.
Secondly Java used mainly in XI,EP etc.and has class concept or in simple words object oriented style of programming. If you are familiar with C++ then you choose java.
New technologies have both e.g we have Webdypro for ABAP as well as for Java also.
One more point in SAP everything is built using ABAP only; recently JAVA came but that doesn't mean ABAP is no more used.
ABAP and JAVA in sap are same, choose according to your convenience.
    Please reward points.
(A way of saying thanks to others)

  • Switching to ABAP

    Hi,
I am a programmer with around 4.5 years experience with top companies, currently working in bangalore (India).  I have been into C++ and web development, Planning to switch to ABAP. Please help me out with your suggestions.
Is it a good idea to study ABAP from a small institute and apply for SAP(ABAP) jobs in bangalore. As a programmer what areas in SAP should i master. Thanks a lot for you time.
    sibil mohammed

Just curious....WHY are you switching? Curiousity, general interest, change of pace, visions of all that big ABAP money pouring in (kidding!), etc?
I ask because, honestly, as the market and global economy is at the moment, it might not be a good switch at this time.
If you do want to go that route, I would suggest self-training (read everything you can get your hands on, set up a preview system and do some coding, etc) and also look for permanent employment with a SAP customer (ie. not a consulting or outsourcing firm). Get your experience there for a while. However, I would imagine that even then, in your area, that might be tough as many people already trained in ABAP and experienced with SAP that have been recently let go from consulting/outsourcing firms will be somewhat flooding the market looking for employment as well.
    In any event, good luck!

  • Need help to get processing log for mass invoice output

    Hi Experts,
    I have one requirement,
My customer will send invoices to their customers in bulk on monthly basis. The customers will receive the invoices through emails, fax or printout. Now the issue is when they send the output to the customers there might be some failures in delivery because of some reason to some customers. I want to capture all the invoices, customers, medium and error text and want to display as a report.
We can see the processing log for a single invoice in VBFA transaction but I want to display one consolidated list where the user can see all the error log records at one place.
I know some tables where we can see some data in NAST, NACH but I would be greatful to you if you provide some more information about this.
Please provide whatever info you have.
    Regards,
    Dileep.

  • ECC 5.0, BW 3.5

    Hi,
I am new to SAP and learning ABAP. I like to setup my own SAP server so I can study ABAP and run the program myself. Also I'd also like to learn Finance, HR and BW.
If anybody would like to sell ECC 5.0, BW 3.5, CRM with installation guides, please contact me at [email protected]
I am willing to buy it for a price via paypal.com  Thank you for your help.

    What is your problem?
How do you want to look up the Java DB instance?
    Did you read the instguides?
Where there exactly are you stuck?
A little more precise description of what are you doing would really help.
    Regards,
    Benny

ALV Object Model – Simple 2D Table - The Basics SAP DEVELOPER NETWORK | sdn.sap.com BUSINESS PROCESS EXPERT COMMUNITY | bpx.sap.com © 2006 SAP AG 3
    Main Class – CL_SALV_TABLE
The main class used to create the simple 2D table is the class CL_SALV_TABLE. Create a reference variable for this class. Create an internal table and fill this internal table with data as show below.
REPORT ZALVOM_DEMO1. data: ispfli type table of spfli. data: gr_table type ref to cl_salv_table. start-of-selection. select * into table ispfli from spfli.
Next we need to create the ALV object for the 2D table. The FACTORY method allows you to create the ALV object in 3 ways. You can create the ALV Grid, as a classical list display, as a full screen grid, and finally embedded into a screen container. For this example, we will be working with the full screen grid. Create the call to the FACTORY method. We are importing the object reference into GR_TABLE and passing the internal table ISPFLI.
    cl_salv_table=>factory( importing r_salv_table = gr_table changing t_table = ispfli ).
Next we need to display the grid, for this we use the DISPLAY method . Simply call it.
    gr_table->display( ).

    Functions – CL_SALV_FUNCTIONS
Next, add functions to the application toolbar. For this, use the CL_SALV_FUNCTIONS class. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_FUNCTIONS method of the GR_TABLE object. Call the method SET_ALL to force the ALV grid to show all standard functions.
    report zalvom_demo1. data: ispfli type table of spfli. data: gr_table type ref to cl_salv_table. data: gr_functions type ref to cl_salv_functions. start-of-selection. select * into table ispfli from spfli. cl_salv_table=>factory( importing r_salv_table = gr_table changing t_table = ispfli ). gr_functions = gr_table->get_functions( ). gr_functions->set_all( abap_true ). gr_table->display( ).
The result is now you have the standard buttons on the application toolbar.
    Display Settings – CL_SALV_DISPLAY_SETTINGS
Next, we can change some display settings using the class CL_SALV_DISPLAY_SETTINGS. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_DISPLAY_SETTINGS method of the GR_TABLE object. In this example, we are setting the “Striped Pattern” for the ALV Grid rows, and setting the heading in the title bar.
    report zalvom_demo1.

    Columns – CL_SALV_COLUMNS_TABLE and CL_SALV_COLUMN_TABLE
Next, we can change some of the attributes of a specific column in the ALV grid. In this example we will change the Heading Text of a column as well as the color of a column. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_COLUMNS method of the GR_TABLE object. This will pass you the object for all columns of the ALV grid. To access just one column, call the method GET_COLUMN from the GR_COLUMNS object. In this example, we are accessing the CITYTO column and the CITYFROM column.

    Sorts – CL_SALV_SORTS
Next, we can add some sorting to the ALV grid. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_SORTS method of the GR_TABLE object. Next, add the sort by calling the ADD_SORT method of the GR_SORTS object.

    Aggregations – CL_SALV_AGGREGATIONS
Since we sorted by CITYTO, we can add an aggregation to subtotal the DISTANCE by CITYTO. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_AGGREGATIONS method of the GR_TABLE object. Next, add the aggregation by calling the ADD_AGGREGATION method of the GR_SORTS object. We also need to modify the call to ADD_SORT to set the SUBTOTAL = ABAP_TRUE.

    Filters – CL_SALV_FILTERS
Using the CL_SALV_FILTERS class we can setup some filters for the data in our ALV GRID. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_FILTERS method of the GR_TABLE object, and then simply called the method ADD_FILTER with the parameters.

    Layouts – CL_SALV_LAYOUT
If you want to allow the user to manage layouts of the ALV grid, you must use the class CL_SALV_LAYOUT. Create the object reference variable and receive the object using the GET_LAYOUT method of the GR_TABLE object. Then simply call the method SET_KEY with the parameters and set the save restriction using the SET_SAVE_RESTRICTION method.

  • BC for HR module

    Hello,
Does anyone knows an internet site, or othe way where i can study Abap development for the Human Resources module.
I don't have knowns about programing infotypes, and clusters. I heard that the development is different than the usual Abap, that we need to work with clusters and infotypes, and i only remember that the way we interact with the database selecting and updating data is different.
If anyone can explain me better the existing differences, i'll also appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Paulo Sousa
