Studying for ACE Exam

Hello all,
I can't afford to take classes to prepare for the Adobe
RoboHelp ACE exam, and my company won't pay for classes either.
Therefore, what's the best way to study without taking courses?
Should I buy Siegel's RH 7 book? If I study everything here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/robohelp/,
would that help me? I was also thinking of combing the online Help
for RH 7. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance.

Hi LaKisha
The best way IMHO is to simply play with RoboHelp. Be
familiar with all its nooks and crannies. The Siegel book *MAY*
help you but it wasn't designed to prepare for the exam. It was
designed to help a total noob learn RoboHelp enough to be
productive with it.
Cheers... Rick

  • Lightroom 5 prep materials for ACE exam?

Hey everyone - can anyone point me towards any good prep materials before I sit the Lightroom 5 ACE exam.  I've used LR since the first beta so consider myself fairly proficient, but I know there will be nooks and crannies I don't use myself much which I'll need to learn or refresh myself on...

Thanks for this post. I thought the last time was May 25th. I hope they could release this one.Actually, I contacted them again this past week to ask if they would be releasing materials for 1Z0-146 anytime soon, since it is now June. I got the following response:
No unfortunately, we've decided to have our developer work on a couple more Oracle practice test products before writing the 1Z0-0146 Study Guide. We'll be releasing the Oracle 10g RAC and 11g Performance Tuning products in the next few months. When we get the study guide back on the project plan, we'll certainly let our customers know, so check back on our web site later this Summer.
So, it looks like it's been postponed indefinitely. They went from February to late March to May to June to indefinite. I won't hold my breath anymore.

  • How to study for the MCSA: SQL Server Exams?

    Hi guys,
Forgive me if this question has already been answered but I'm simply trying to find out the best way to tackle the three exams required for the MCSA in SQL Server. I read a blog post on the Pluralsight website which, in discussing the MCSA in Windows
Server, it was advised that the best approach is to study for all three exams rather than one at a time as there's a certain amount of overlap.
My question is does this apply to SQL Server 2012 too? Or would it be bets to study for, and take, the three exams separately and one at a time? I'm just completing the Trainsignal (now Pluralsight) SQL Server 2012 Administration Essentials 28-video course
and was just about to begin going through the equivalent book when I read the blog post.
My background is mainly in desktop/server support (10years following an IT degree) and before now, have had no real exposure to SQL Server. I was asked about a year ago by my current manager to "keep an eye" on the SQL instances we have and began
by replicating the our fail-over cluster in a virtual environment for testing purposes and to gain an understanding of the set-up. I've since developed a keen interest in SQL Server and plan to get certified...
    Many thanks in advance.
    Marcus.
    Exams are:
    1
    Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
    2
Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
    3
Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    Hello,
My humble recommendation is to study for each exam one at a time. I found 70-461 most difficult exam of SQL Server I have
taken to this date for its XML content and the extent of the exam. Go for 70-461 first.
You will find tips and recommendations on the following Channel 9 resources:

  • Studying for 3.0 Certification exams -- Any useful books??

    Hi all,
I know abt Catherine Rose's book, in fact my buddy gave me his old copy, 2002 circa. I was wondering with all the changes, is there anything that is more upto date? Is there a source on the web that would have similiar stuff??

    Pashang:
This is not about studying for the exam, I have a question for you.

  • Tough question, but how much study is usually required for cert. exams

I have been working for 3-4 years as a Configuration Manager administrator, mostly in CM12. I have strong areas, like OSD and application deployment, and weaker areas, like PKI/https and Compliance Settings. I consider myself to be an advanced technician
    or engineer.
I am considering System Center Configuration Manager certification (70-243), but am wondering how much of an endeavor this is likely to be. Can others that have taken this or similar certificate exams please advise me? In weighing the value of certification,
I am wondering if I will be likely to succeed with a 100 hour commitment, or is it going to much more substantial a time investment?
I know this will vary wildly depending on how quickly a person learns and what they already know, but would love to have some idea before I decide to go down this path. I welcome your feedback and experience.
    Gary

    Hi Gary-
As you mentioned, the time it takes to properly prepare for an exam varies quite a bit.  So it will be helpful if other people chime in with their experiences too.  For most Microsoft exams, there are topics that you know and work with, topics
that you've read about but not worked with, and topics that are new to you.  Let me break down how this impacts the amount of time required to study:
Topics that you know and work with.  Some people might think that these topics don't require study time.  I think they do require study time.  That's because most admins have a specific method that they use in their work.
That might not be the method that the exam tests you on.  For example, in ConfigMgr you might use the management console for the  majority of your work.  The exam may test you on PowerShell.  It may ask a basic question about performing
a task that you know how to do in the management console but the only answer choices are PowerShell.  Or, they may test you on a new feature in R2 when your environment isn't running R2.  I recommend that you review the latest enhancements to R2
and spend a bit of time investigating alternate methods to perform tasks.  I estimate about 4 or 5 hours on this.
Topics that you've read about but not worked with.  These topics require study.  I recommend that you read about them and work with them.  For example, you should read about configuration items AND implement them in a lab
environment.  There are several learning styles and often people don't know which style is most effective for them.  Some learn by reading, some learn by doing, some learn by hearing, etc.  Typically, you will retain more knowledge by combining
the learning styles.  For me, I typically start by playing with a technology in my lab for a few hours.  Afterward, I will read about it.  Then maybe go back to the lab.  For others, it may be different.  But definitely experiment
to see what feels right for you.  I recommend that you avoid just reading about something that you've never worked with because it will make the exam difficult to pass.
Topics that are new to you.  These topics require the most study.  As Alberto pointed out, use the Skills Measured section.  Print it out.  Each time you finish reading and exploring a technology and feel comfortable,
cross it off.  For these new topics, definitely get your hands on them in a lab.  Even if you only spend a few minutes with each one.
For me, I usually allocate about 2 weeks to study for an exam.  But study time during that two weeks comes in between regular work and family stuff.  Maybe a couple of hours a day total and a few extra hours the day before the exam.  In the
past, I've allocated as little as 1 week to prepare for an exam.  For beta exams, I've walked in several times without any preparation.  In all cases, I always think that I should've spent a couple of extra hours.
If you've never taken a certification exam or a Microsoft certification exam, you'll want to spend more time than others who have taken exams.  But, one thing I typically tell people is not to spend too much time studying.  It will work against
you.  If you spend 8 weeks studying, by the half way point you will start forgetting the stuff you studied in the first week.  When the exam comes up, you'll have probably forgotten half of the stuff you studied.  I recommend a maximum of 4
weeks of study for an exam like this.  A book dedicated to 70-243 will be helpful but should be combined with hands on time in a lab environment.  If you don't have a lab to work in, check out the free TechNet labs for Configuration Manager at
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/virtuallabs/bb467605.aspx.  Finally, don't worry about failing an exam.  It is often the one thing that can help you the most in your exam
preparation!  I advise that you schedule the exam.  Pick a date a couple of weeks out and commit by scheduling it.  If you fail, you will know exactly what you need to do before you take the exam again!

  • What to study for the Microsoft 70-680 to help me get Microsoft Certified

    Dear Microsoft Tech Forum,
I have taken the Microsoft Certification Exam 70-680, Configuring Windows 7, and failed the first time around earlier this month. The reason for this is very simple. I have been studying out of date material. You see, the book that Microsoft Press issued
for the Microsoft 70-680 which I have in my possession was published 5 years ago. I never found out until it was too late that the exam underwent a change in March of 2014. Now I need updated material to help me study for the exam. May you please suggest to
me some new materials I'll need to study for the Microsoft 70-680 and where I can get notifications that they changed the exam and what to study? I have the ability to do this again.
    Regards,
    sampsoninc916

If you're doing self-study via book, then check Amazon to see what books they have and what the user review/ratings are.  That should provide you with information as to which book may be a better choice.

  • Can anyone recommend a resource for the ACE Exam?

I would like to take the ACE exam for Dreamweaver and want to practice on sample tests. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I may download or purchase sample exams? Also, any other suggestions for helpful resources that can assist with studying? Thank you!

There are sample questions at the end that we found to be actually incorrect.
I have taken only a brief look at that document, and have just two comments:
In spite of the URL, that's not the preparation guide for the ACE (Adobe Certified Expert) exam, but the ACA (Adobe Certified Associate) exam. I believe that ACA is intended for use in schools, and is not considered to be a professional qualification. It certifies individuals have the entry-level skills.
You're right. Both the questions and some of the answers are completely off the wall. Adobe should withdraw that document immediately (and the exam if it bears any relationship to those questions). Sadly, they refused to do so with the Dreamweaver CS3 ACE exam in spite of considerable pressure from Adobe Certified Instructors and Community Experts. The CS3 ACE exam was so bad, Adobe acknowledged a pass in the DW8 exam as sufficient credentials to qualify as a certified instructor.
The document that I pointed to (http://partners.adobe.com/public/en/ace/ACE_Exam_Guide_DreamweaverCS4.pdf) is the ACE exam preparation guide. Apart from the missing screenshot, the questions and answers appear to be OK, although I would debate the wisdom of the strategy suggested in the question about synchronization.

Has anyone heard anything from Adobe about when the Captivate 4 ACE exam will be available?

I had heard there would be one, but I am not certain about timing. I'll will try to find out something for you.
When available, they will be listed here. http://partners.adobe.com/public/ace/main.html

  • Suggestions for ACE, Next week is my exam

Hi All, I'm taking my first ACE exam in Photoshop CS6 on coming Saturday. Any suggestions, tips are warmly welcome. Currently I'm reading Photoshop help and and a book called Photoshop classroom in a book. Will that be enough?

    Dave,
you've got to have at least one assistant with you to help you set up and just do simple stuff while you talk to the people about the shots you wanna get ( eg...he sets up camera on legs roughly where its supposed to be for that shot , while you talk to workers, make them feel comfortable, make them feel like they are "contributing" to the ideas of how best to get the shot(s).  In other words, have assistant deal with helping you with the equipment ( cause its gonna feel weird to the workers seeing that "camera" ....and that they will be in front of lens ---scared if they look OK and can suck in their stomach enough etc )...so while you make them feel comfortable and deal with simple stuff with "actors"...you assistant can deal with equip setup...
And this is the main thing the asst does once you go to camera to do a rehearsal with the people you just talked to about the shot...( cause you are still directing at this point ..talking to them...walking them through the "shot"...)...you asst has a 4 foot x 4 foot bounce ..and gives you every inch of light and highlight he can from that to your subject...   beadboard styrofoam with silver back gives you a TON of that little extra light to make a big difference in the shots....either putting an extra 1/2 stop into the "work area" ( if tight shots of hand working on materials from ceiling sodium vapor lamps or flourescents or tungsten etc )...you can get that asst to just bring that "focus" area up a little to make all the difference in showing audience what they are DOING with their hands or equipment etc.
so , in a word....asst with bounces....silver and gold and black& white "showcards" ( google showcard for film )...and a 4x4 beadboard bounce...can use soft white side or can blast a lot into areas with silver side...

  • Studying for Oracle 11g Performance and Tuning exam - 1Z0-054

    Hello all,
I want to attend to this exam and I'm looking for interesting and usefull studying path. Sure manuals on tahiti are needed.
Neither sefltestsoftware not Testking has released a proficiency test for this exam. I was only able to find a test from Braindumps here (http://www.exam4test.net/1Z1-054) but not sure this is a serious material.
Any hints about this material and / or any other suggestions?

    Hi Stefano
Seems that our friends from Certguard aren't sure that this a legal provider, but the look and feel would say to avoid that site.
Try the http://www.certguard.com/braindump-quiz.asp it matches very well to the site or?
Besides that while looking on the domain i found that

  • Trying to book ACE exam for Indesign CC - but not available

Why is an ACE exam for Indesign CC not available and when will it be? I have been trying to book it via Pearson Vue for some time but no luck. Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Dreamweaver are all available as ACE exams for CS6 and CC but no Indesign. Are you dropping Indesign from the ACE curriculums?

    Thanks Rajshree
The link you posted directs to the CS6 exam, I was wondering why CC isn't available for Indesign (but is for other softwares). I have already contacted Pearson Vue and they said that Adobe hasn't supplied them with any Indesign CC exam and to contact Adobe regarding why.
I tried to contact Adobe but they said that they could only offer software support and didn't have info about the ACE process.
I'm thinking this is a dead end.
Thanks again for your reply thou

  • When will the ACE exam be updated for LR 2.0?

Just wondering if anyone has heard if / when the ACE exam for Lightroom will be updated to reflect the fact that we're on Version 2.0 of the software (well, 2.2 / 2.3 I guess). It seems to me that the summary page:
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/ace/main.html
    and the prep guide:
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/en/ace/ACE_Exam_Guide_PhotoshopLightroom.pdf
don't specifically refer to v2.0 and I don't *think* they've been updated recently. I have tried emailing Adobe support about this, but they have only said that "it depends on the higher authority and the web development team who takes decision amongst themselves about the schedule of the exam." I find it hard to believe that the web development team decide what goes into the LR ACE exam! However, I tried to seek clarification and was given the same answer once again.
I seem to remember reading that when a new version of a program is released, the ACE for the older version is only valid for another X months (possibly 6?), before you have to re-take the exam for the new version to remain ACE-qualified. Obviously I don't want to take the ACE exam for v1.0 (which I don't actually even have any more!) if they suddenly update it next week.

I have asked someone who should know and will wait for an answer then post back.

  • About ACE exam for Lr5

    Hi guys,
i want to take the exam for Adobe Lightroom Expert in Lightroom 5 [not 4].i went to Pearson`s VUE page and i see that IS a Lightroom 5 exam [code:9A0-361 Lightroom 5 ACE Exam English ]
I also check at examaids and they also have a Lr5 ACE exam aid.So far so good BUT i ask ACE portal in facebook and they told me that the Lr5 exam is in beta version and is not officially released yet
I mail to ask examaids and they confirm the same think as ACE portal said : "..we are still waiting for the exam to be released. ..."
Can anyone have any experience about this? did you guys know when Lightroom 5 exam is officially released ?
Thanks a lot for your time!!!

Lily, I've been through this discussion several times over the years - of course I'm not naive and think the exam is the only thing that proves you are a good instructor. But it is the starting point. If someone is a poor instructor, there are checks and balances in place - ACIs are required to offer a survey after each class that is sent to Adobe to monitor in-class instruction quality.
According to the Adobe Training guidelines, ACEs are technically not qualified to teach. And before you fly off the handle, I know there are ACEs out there than CAN teach and would probably do very well to take the next step and get their ACI certs. However, many ACEs are tech support, users who wanted the cert for career goals, etc. Sure you can "memorize the help menu" but that is not the only resource for the exam. The exams have always been based on a lot of different aspects of the software and nowhere does it say that the Help menu is the only resource for materials. It doesn't make the exam any less valid.
I've been an ACI for the past 10 years in various softwares and have been involved in the Certified community in various capacities including authoring the most recent round of AI exams. The examples you give are not unique to Captivate and there will always be less than qualified "experts" but they are the minority. Being certified is one step to placing you above the others. Your reputation and feedback from clients/students helps as well.
My question is if you find the exams to be so pointless what would you do in lieu of the exams to prove that someone is certified in Adobe software? If there is no certification program, anyone could say they are an expert in something without recourse.

  • What to use to study for the Clad exam?

Hello to all who may read this.
I will be going for my CLAD exam in just a few months and I hope that I will pass it and finally attain my certification.
I have a question for anyone who can answer it. What materials should I consider using to study for this test? I have been to the Basics 1 and 2, with Daq following that. I was a novice using LabView and could write a fairly decent program measuring temperatures and frequency sensors / transducers. However, I transferred to a new lab and haven't been able to even crack the book to maintain my level of knowledge for approximately 1 1/2 years. I haven't ever built a state machine or anything like that. My test will be in about 2 months, and I need a little direction on the study materials. Any help for me cramming all this in my head would be useful and appreciated. Preferably an app engineer or a clad, cld holder advice would be most helpful.
Please email me with any questions and / or advice you may have.

    thanx in advance,

To add to one of the previous posts, if you can get a hold of a newer (7.x) version (while there are differences between 7.0 and 7.1 they're not huge) write programs using as many of the main concepts (Loops, cases, etc.,) as possible. It will help you in the CLAD exam, things that are theoretical will also be remembered in the practical part of your brain!. Plus, if and when you are ready to take the CLD exam being _very_ familiar with the environment will really help. The following only applies when you are ready to take the CLD exam:
As an addition to the previous post, (when you are taking the CLD exam), while you will be tested up to the version previous to the latest release, the test center may have the latest release on the computer you will use. Not much difference between 7.0 and 7.1, environment wise, but if all you have programmed in were the previous to 7.x releases, the environment (look and feel) of the "out of the box" installation is very different. The biggest problem that many have with the CLD exam isn't the difficulty of the problem as much as thinking of a solution and then implementing it within the test time. A good friend, and one of the best LabVIEW programmers I've known, wasn't familiar with the new lay out and didn't know that NI had given switches to make 7.x look like 6.x and the mental context switching and the looking for familiar tools in unfamiliar places cost him the exam (CLD) the first time he took it. The exam(s) are not terribly tough if you are prepared, but they are definitely not trivial either. Which is as it should be for them to have any validity!
    Study hard and good luck.
