Studying for Oracle 11g Performance and Tuning exam - 1Z0-054

Hello all,
I want to attend to this exam and I'm looking for interesting and usefull studying path. Sure manuals on tahiti are needed.
Neither sefltestsoftware not Testking has released a proficiency test for this exam. I was only able to find a test from Braindumps here (http://www.exam4test.net/1Z1-054) but not sure this is a serious material.
Any hints about this material and / or any other suggestions?
Thanks
Stefano

Hi Stefano
Seems that our friends from Certguard aren't sure that this a legal provider, but the look and feel would say to avoid that site.
Try the http://www.certguard.com/braindump-quiz.asp it matches very well to the site or?
Besides that while looking on the domain i found that
Domains being linked from exam4test.com
* Traffic rank 252963. test-inside.com
* Traffic rank 940584. exam4test.net
and those sites aren't clean.

    Hi all,
does anyone has already taken this exam? I just want to know which study materials you've used and also if there's any online testing software.
I've downloaded ucertify test for this exam but I'm not sure that is a great and affordable testing tools...
    Thanks
    Steve

Some people have given more positive opinion on some more recent Ucertify practice tests than this on this forum.
I would not completely write off Ucertify practice tests .... but if you buy them:
They may not have same quality as SelfTestSoftware
They may not represent value for money.
They probably give full topic coverage.
They could even have incorrect answers for all I know.
However they may help you identify some weak areas.
If you buy expecting a 5*Hotel you may be disappointed, if you buy expecting a room with a hammock and cockroaches you may be happy about it.
(Please note I have not bought the tests .... it is only from feedback to this forum).

  • Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning exam 1Z0-054

    Hi,
I want to take the certification Oracle Database 11g: Performance Tuning exam 1Z0-054 and want to write the exam.
To earn the OCE credentials, I know that we need to take training from Oracle University. I am not an OCP currently.
Can I write the exam now and later take the course to meet the certification requirements? I know it is not the right way, but I can not pay $3000 for the course as of now. I can write the exam through self study. I want to check if I can take the exam now and later take the course.
Is it mandatory to take the course before taking the exam?
    Thanks,
    naveen.

naveen.Indeed you can take the exam now, and subsequently earn the 11g PERFTUNE OCE credential when you either:
    1) complete, submit and get verified the OU authorised 11g perftune course (possible but seems a little cart before horse).
    or
    2) Become 11g DBA OCP.

  • Which tool is used for Oracle 11g performance tuning?

    Hi all
I used statspack for 9i's performance tuning.
But with 11g R2 now I want to know which way are you using to do performance tuning?
Statspack? OSW? RDA? ADDM? Or other ways?
    Thank you.

  • Preparation for Oracle 10g OCA and OCP exams

    Hi all,
I am studying for my first Oracle 10g OCA exam. Thus far, I have the Transcender exam prep software and book from Oracle Press for the OCA/OCP exams with Oracle 10g. With a test Oracle 10g database to practice on while I study, am I on the right path?
    Thanks

Use the http://education.oracle.com OR http://otn.oracle.com as your portal - you'll see the Certification link on either one. From the Certification page you will be able to drill down to the objectives and requirements of the exam. I suggest you use that as a checklist, as the various books and sample exams have been known to include mistakes or miss items.
In addition, you should be familiar with the first few chapters of the Oracle Concepts manual and also, preferably, the first few chapters of the DB Admin Guide - both available from http://tahiti.oracle.com
A great motto while learning is "trust no one - verify everything"

  • How similar is the performance and tuning 1z1-064 (12c) to the 1z0-054 (11g)?

I had taken the Oracle 11g performance and Tuning class from Oracle.
I am just wondering how close the 1z1-064 will be to the 1z0-054.
I am also studying for the 1z1-064 exam.
Are there any books out yet, or just the otn material.
    Thanks Roger

Hopefully John Watson will pipe in on this.  I know he has taken both exams.  He recently noted on the OraFAQ forum that he had taken both the 1Z0-063 and 1Z0-064 beta exams.  His comments about them there were:
"I would say that looking at the exams as a whole, there is a huge improvement over the 10g and 11g equivalents. The new exams cover a lot more material in a lot greater detail, and are a lot harder. These 12c exams are a Good Thing for the profession. They should filter out a lot of exam-cram only DBAs"
It's not clear to me how much of that comment was directed at 063 and how much at 064. The topic list for 063 is much larger than that for 053.  However, the topic list for 064 is actually a bit smaller than that of 054.

Can anybody recommend any useful performance and tuning books.
I should probably limit my search to 11g or higher.

Would Oracle have list of Oracle classes that i have taken.
If they do, is there any way to get hold of the pdf from the class that I took?

Hi Raghavendra, welcome to the forum!
I suggest you remove you email from your post to avoid recieveing undesired emails.
There are two OCA paths, OCA Developer or OCA DBA.
For both paths you need to take one of the following SQL exams:
1z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i SQL (this is an outdated exam)
    or
1z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Expert (more advanced exam recommended for developers/dbas with SQL experience)
    or
1z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I (recommended for beginners or people with average experience in SQL)
After passing one of these exams, if you want to take the OCA DBA path you need to do the:
    1z0-052 Administration I exam
After passing one of the SQL exams, if you want to take the OCA Developer path you need one of the:
1z0-147 Program with PL/SQL (outdated exam)
    or
1z0-144 Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL (more actual exam, recommended)

  • Newbie question about Oracle 11G performance

I have a situation where a newer better faster server running Oracle 11gR1 is running considerably slower than an older slower server running Oracle 10gR2.
Both of these servers have the same web applications and same dumpfiles loaded into them.
I personally installed the Oracle 11g on the new server, however, I didn't install the 10gR2 on the older server, some one else did...
I have checked what I think are the basics: the tables are not missing constraints, the automatic memory management is enabled.
I know this is a really broad question.
    Newer server:
    Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processor 2352 2.10 GHz (2 processors)
    16 GB memory
    Windows Server 2008, 64 bit
    Raid 5
    Older Server:
Intel Xeon 1.8 GHz (2 processors)
    4 GB memory
    Windows Server 2003, 32 bit
    Raid 5

    Hi Derik,
I know this is a really broad question. No, it happens all the time! Here is a similar issue:
    http://blog.tuningknife.com/2008/09/26/oracle-11g-performance-issue/
+"In the end, nothing I tried could dissuade 11g from emitting the “PARSING IN CURSOR #d+” message for each insert statement. I filed a service request with Oracle Support on this issue and they ultimately referred the issue to development as a bug. Note that Support couldn’t reproduce the slowness I was seeing, but their trace files did reflect the parsing messages I observed."+
    I would:
1 - Start by examining historical SQL execution plans (stats$sql_plan or dba_hist_sql_plan). Try to isolate the exact nature of the decreased performance.
Are different indexes being used? Are you geting more full-table scans?
    2 - Migrate-in your old 10g CBO statistics
3 - Confirm that all init.ora parms are identical
    4 - Drill into each SQL with a different execution plan . . .
    Raid 5 Don't believe that crap that all RAID-5 is evil. . . .
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_raid5_acceptable_oracle.htm
But at the same time, consider using the Oracle standard, RAID-10 . . .
    Hope this helps . . .
