Stumped! Help!

So, I recently bought a 120G iPod classic from a reliable guy. For the first couple weeks, it worked pretty decent. There were a few flaws, like being unable to add new songs without restoring the whole iPod, and a window that kept popping up asking if I would like to fix some files on the device. Even if I clicked yes, the files would never restore, so I ended up clicking cancel for the majority of the time.
Last week, however, I upgraded to the new version of iTunes. Unfortunately, with that, my ipod was no longer able to sync or restore itself. Along with that, whenever I even plug my device in, The whole system freezes until I unplug it.
I have tried everything. Different versions of iTunes, contacting the previous owner, googling help, and anything I could possibly come up with, but nonetheless, nothing has worked.
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. I leave for a flight next week and I would really like to take my iPod along.

Sounds more of a software issue. Especially the bit about starting up in safe mode. I have seen all sorts of odd issues from CS3 installs, mostly on Intel machines though. So here is a random thought. Go to your /library/receipts folder and delete any safari related files. This will cause the OS to re-download any safari updates when you run Software updater. Now go to Software updater and get all safari updates again. My thinking is that re-running the updates after CS3 is installed will fix any damage CS3 did (if any). This is just a guess from experience with CS3 install issues. Also check adobe's website for CS3 install issues would be good.
I don't recognize this as a hardware issue. I think it is a software bug.

Really really need some help please.

Whatever has happened, I've assumed it just happened and is systemic.
To start: Go to Applications/Utilities and run Disk Utility, select your startup drive, and click on the Repair Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
If that works, you're done, if not, pull out your Tiger startup DVD, insert it, select the Installer, and Restart your Mac from the DVD. When you get to the installer screen, go to the menus at the top of the screen and select Disk Utility, and this time click on the Repair Disk button. This will check your file system integrity and repair it.
When you've done that, post back.
If those don't work, you may need to do an Archive & Install, from this same DVD. This will preserve your accounts/apps/data, but will require you to repeatedly run Software Update to bring everything current again.

How do i use WGM or dcsl to change the primary groups of users, defined by another group?

i've got a ton of users, whose primary group is "current student". they all belong to the other group "year 13"
they've left school, so i thought it would be easy to do a search of users with GID equal to or containing the GID for "year 13" (in this case 1121) and then change their primary group to "left school"
except that doesn't work. i can only search for them in WGM by primary group, it seems. therefore i cannot do any batch operations on a secondary group.
so. how do i do this? is there a way of scripting dcsl to find users by 'other group' and then change the primary group attribute?
i'm going to need to be doing a lot of this (changing the other gropus of a school full of students). bit stumped.
help!

ok. for some reason neitehr root nor my account (which is part of the open directory admin group) can make changes using dscl.

Error-36 when trying to access web disk

I am trying to access a secure webdisk from my macbook pro to upload my webpage to a new hosting site, however every time i try to set up a connection with the acount i either encounter an "Error 36" message, a time out, or a message stating a connection time out.
I can find alot of infomation as to how to format a hard drive to work using terminal, but nothing for this...
Bit stumped, help would be appricated!!

That's a network or server issue, not a problem with your Mac.

Essbase - eis issue

Hi,
I have been facing an drillthrough issue started since couple of weeks...
The users are not able to drillthrough the data (data is in sybase) from excel. They are getting the ESSDTU error message...
I have re-run the "ais_start" and then its started working... why i have to do this very often... i have not had this issue before...
PS: Some of our servers went down recently... from that day itself i am facing this issue...
Please help/assist to resolve this issue.

The SQL statements for the drill-though report definitions work with all cost centres, when I run them in a SQL console (SqlServer management console). But even when I create a new drill though report, it still only works only for the cost centres that previously worked successfully with the existing drill through reports. There is no signifigant difference in Essbase between the cost centres that work and the ones that dont , so I am completely stumped

E-mail signup web form - Error message

My index page has a newsletter signup web form. The workflow attached works, but when a user enters their e-mail and clicks "submit" they get an error message. It is a module inserted basic implementation.
It allows for drag and drop ordering which will update the form and any changes and new additions will update the form - which is what is happening in your case.
ID's etc changing have no baring on what is happening.
But what your saying... I am not sure your seeing what your saying. Even in this case I do can not replicate what your doing.
This is a test form:
The ID is - CAT_Custom_19956061
I can edit auto responder, I can add new fields, I can save and update the form in the admin, go into another part of the admin and come back - the ID for this field NEVER changes. The Script ID etc in the html of course updates if I make changes this never changes.
The ONLY way this changes is if I delete and remake the field.
So you need to make a BC support ticket. Your either doing something critical like removing and re-adding the form fields and not stating that here or, for what ever reason on that site only there is an issue.

Playing videos back to back in itunes

hello, I am trying to to play my videos through itunes, without having to click each video after one is done.
is there a way to sort of watch your videos as a sort of 'slideshow' . I know this isnt a big deal, but I figured there HAS to be a way to do that---it seems pretty basic, but I'm stumped.

Put the video-playback-setting to "play videos fullscreen"; then they will play continuously.

Can't edit objects on the stage

Hi,
I'm stumped helping my colleague on the issue below so I'm logging this question.
Issue: My colleague is trying to edit a slide but can't edit any of the objects on the stage. However, it works fine when I open the same project on my machine. Is there a setting on her machine that's causing the issue?
In the screenshot below, check out Slide 2 (selected) notice how:
in the thumbnail there are multiple objects (white image on the left, blue text caption in the center) on the slide.
in the timeline multiple objects are available and selectable. All are set to be visible (the little "eye" isn't switched to off).
when you look at the stage, the only things that we see are the background and a single button.
The objects also appear fine in Preview.
On the stage, can "phatomly" select objects, but she can't change the characteristics of them (e.g., change text in a text caption, resize object, move object).

This project was initially created in an older Captivate version (4.0 or 5.0) and is now being edited/updated.
Last week, my colleague was trying to edit the same project (using v5.0). When she clicked play on the timeline, her audio wouldn't play. When she watched the Preview or tried to edit the audio, the audio would play just fine. Also, on my machine (running v5.5) it worked fine. This prompted me to suggest that she update to v5.5. Alas, it seems this fixed the audio issue, only to create this video issue.

Index.html created by Bridge Web Gallery has VBGetSwfVer error

I'm running CS6 under Win7 and IE9. I have used Bridge to create a web gallery but when I try and execute the generated index.html file I get a (script?) error:
Clicking eather Yes or No has no impact - just a blank screen.
I have not modified the generated index.html. Also, it does not matter if I have used CS5 or CS6. The generated file works elsewhere (at college Win7, CS5) so it has to be something to do with a setting on my PC but what?

I know you said you moved foldes around until it started working - that's a bit drastic and lucky that none of your links got broken :-)
Back to the folder names. You should never use upper case NOR use spaces when naming folders or files. You may end up with browser incompatibilityand some servers can choke if type of naming convention is used. Also some hosts don't support upper case,(linux in particular),. It's best to use lower case at all times and if you need a space use an underscore or hyphen instead. eg: custom-business-card-designs/
Now if you want to go and rename any folders or files, fo it all via the Dreamweaver File Panel, so that DW can keep track of what you're changing, so that you don't get broken links.
Actually now that you mentioned moving folders etc., are you working in a Defined Dreamweaver Site? That's the very first thing you need to set up when starting a new project in Dreamweaver:

EIS - Essbase drill though issue

We are using Essbase 11.1.2 with EIS to build our BSO cube, and provide drill through to a SQL server database
Our drill-through has been working OK but now we have an issue where it stops working for a small number of cost centres
We get the first drill through panel for all cost centres (thedialog box that says : Linked object Browser, with oprions to 'View/Launch' etc), then, upon selecting 'View/Launch', for most Cost Centres we get a list a list of pre-written queries, but for a subset of cost centres we get 'There are no reports defined for the selected intersection'
Our BAU process is to reload our dimensions from files and then update the drill through in EIS , which we do several times a week
Anyone got any ideas why it should stop working only for certail cost centres ?

Perma-frozen?! ahh..

i have done everything i know of to fix my ipod nano .. so here we go:
problem:
ipod will turn on, will connect to itunes and update, all that is fine. the hold button will have the desired effect etc. etc. but once the ipod is turned on, it doesn't do anything else except turn off. the battery is 100% charged, so i know it's not dead. but i can't scroll down the main menu, or go to songs/pictures/anything else on said menu. actually, now that i think about it, it takes several times to press the center button to make my ipod turn on. hmm.
what i've tried:
-restarting computer
-toggling hold button
-resetting ipod
-restoring ipod (and the rest of the 5 main ideas)
and i'm stumped. help pleeeeeeeeeeeease.

My best guess is that there is a problem with theclickwhel itself. You haven't put it in a microwave, by chance? Anyway, I'd go to a certified dealer/repair place.

New iPod won't install on laptop

I've just got my first iPod classic (120GB 2008 model) and I've got the latest iTunes...but when I plug it in via USB, it won't recognise my iPod.
It doesn't appear in My Computer or on iTunes. I've gone through all the troubleshooting and none of it seems to help. When I go into My Computer > Right click 'Manage' > Device Manager it shows the iPod under other devices, but it has a yellow question mark and exclamation icon next to it.
When I try to install the hardware through Hardware Update Wizard I get this error message: 'The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software. Click back if you have installation media such as a CD-ROM, or if you know the location of the software.'
This has me stumped - help! (Please can you keep explanations simple and explain step by step? I'm not completely untechnical, but I'm not that techy either!)

thanks for you patient and apology for my poor english skill.
at the moment i do need animation in the first palce, the thing is, my "title" is a sentence, and it will automanticaly take two line if i select the font size to 80, when i was applying the "expand" title style, in the beginning of the animation, it was fine, however, when it goes on expanding, the words in one line takes onger than before so some words were moved to the second line.
please refer to the images, first one was the beginning of expanding animation, the second one is what it is changed like ("40" was moved all of a sudden to the second line).

How do I undo display rotation on eternal monitor?

Hi, hope this is the right area for this. I hooked an external monitor up to my Powerbook G4 Titanium 15", with OsX 10.4.11. I was playing with the settings and I hit a drop down menu that said degree rotation (or something like that) and selected 90 degrees, and both screens fritzed out. Nothing I did brought them back (oh for the windows reset in 15 seconds!) I had to unplug the external screen to get the main screen to come back up on the reboot, which was only accomplished by holding down the power button, it loaded as normal but as soon as I plug the external in and do a detect displays, both fritz out again (it's almost blue screen of death-ish). I read on some other sites about how some of the older computers don't have the capacity to actually support this feature of 10.4 (would have been nice to know a little bit sooner).
What I'm wondering is, is there a way to undo what I did? Some of the sites mentioned doing an archive and "and install in FireWire target disk mode" (I have no idea how to do that), but the person describing it was talking about a desktop (I think), where they couldn't get the screen to come back at all, unlike me where I can get it to come back so I can go into menus and do resets and stuff. Another site also mentioned the boot disk. Do I just slide that in and install over what's there? I've backed up my files. Will it uninstall everything or just reset the system? I'm stumped, help please!!

Creative sound blaster audigy 2 zs h

I have creative sound blaster audigy 2 zs card and a set of AV labs, amped 7. sound system speakers. i have 4 input wires to plug into the card and it only seems to have 3 output jacks. When i go and calibrate the speakers i am missing out on my two surround speakers. how should i be hooking these up. There is probaly a simple ansew to this but it has me stumped. help please

As you will see in the article, the Audigy is fitted with two 4-pole connectors, which can carry 3-channels each. So you only need 3 wires for a 7. system, as you have 2 normal stereo plugs (3-pole) and 2 3-channel plugs (2*2+2*3=8). You will most probably need different wiring for your speaker system as it appears you have 4 stereo plugs.

Having trouble getting iBook to connect wirelessly after getting new modem

Ok so I got a new modem, and I put it in PPoE mode and bridge mode so that the internet would work with my router.
Internet is working great/fine on my PC that's wired to one of the ports on the Linksys, and internet works fine when wired to the iBook. I changed no settings on my iBook from before when the router was with the old modem/old settings.
Modem: Motorola 2210-02
Router: Linsys WRT54G2
iBook G4, I think it has the 1 ghz processor (bought it back in 04!) I am getting a signal on my iBook showing the wireless network at full strength.
I made sure that the router is not blocking anonymous request and MAC filtering is off, but it does not connect to the internet.
I'm stumped help!

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.
