Stunning audio/video performance on Nokia E72.

I bought my E72 a week ago and one of the first thing on the to-do list, was to load it with high quality video material and my goodness, this mobile phone can deliver stunning performance.
Using YouTube downloader addon in Firefox, I found quite decent HD material. Downloaded it onto my computer (Lenovo Z61p).
Next step:  Using Pazera MP4 to AVI converter. Transforming from MP4 to lossless HuffYUV video and lossless PCM audio AVI file, keeping aspect ratio and all pixels. During the process, I kept an eye open and noticed how many frames per second the video contained and of course pixel width/height.
Next step: Using Windows Media Encoder, I had the video transformed to 320x240 if the original material had the same 4:3 aspect. Otherwise I had videos done so it matched either 320px width or 240px in height according to the original video aspect ratio.
Using the encoder WMV-9 I had to try several times in order to find the highest possible video quality.
A couple of HD music videos from youTube, Destinys Child "Say My name" and "Bootylicious" were the first to undergo transformation. the material itself is upscaled SD, but it's okay, since the final results has to be within a frame of 320x240 pixels.
I had the material encoded with (video) 3584 kbit/sec and (audio) 320 kbit/sec, Videosmoothness at 100 and keeping the framerate.
The result was stunning. But it still seem, that WMV material is more demanding on the CPU than appreciated. The result videos does contain jitter or perhaps even lost frames.
Yesterday I had a BluRay-rip of Baraka made. The Baraka movie is one of the absolutely best BluRay discs available.
This time I raised the max bitrate in Windows Media Encoder to 6000 kbit/sec. I've noticed in my previous experiments, that even though you choose a high setting in the encoder and choosing CBR, the encoder is actually using some kind of variable bitrate and the average bitrate is still lower than the ultra high settings of 3500-6000 kbit/sec. But by using ultra high settings, the encoder have room to give detailed footage enough bits leaving it without any digital artifacts such as macroblocking, which I hate.
The result. Well. The 320x240 matrix sure does have some impact on video material containing horizontal and vertical lines. It doesn't look too good to be honest. But organic shapes, such as animals, plants and human beings really looks amazing on a mobile phone )
But it still contained small amounts of jitter. During moments when I specifically knows the encoder used high bitrate like 5500 kbit/sec, the E72 lost a couple of frames.
Now. I have to do more experiments. Last night I found a way to make MP4's directly from a DVD, still containing subtitles. The material was the Twilight movie. My daughter, age 13, also got a Nokia E72.
The first experiments with small clips from the Twilight DVD showed, that the E72 can handle MP4 video at 8000 kbit/sec much better than WMV at 6000 kbit/sec. I noticed absolutely no jitter at all, even when using an ultra high bitrate setting like 8000 kbit/sec. Promising )
But....in order to enjoy high quality video material on your Nokia E72, I've noticed that you have to watch them in full screen. The socalled normal window (inside RealPlayer) degrades the video severe.
You also have to copy final video material directly to the phone. Don't let the Nokia PC-Suite transform the video material. Even the socalled "High Quality" setting in PC-Suite reduces video material to roughly 480 kbit/sec and that can't be recommended.
Now....the hunt is on to find the breakpoint of the CPU, using MP4 material. If it melts, it's my own responsibility. But for the time being, 8000kbit/sec (video bitrate, MP4) is no problem for E72.
I forgot to say: The audio quality on E72 is great. 9.5 stars out of 10. I've used Sennheiser HD600 headphones.

I've just found a splendid piece of software. Avidemux.
It can convert mkv directly into MP4.
As we speak, I'm experimenting with some videomaterial, which look promising. I'll report back at a later point in time.

  • Nokia E72 Video Recording Lags

    Hello,
Recently my Nokia E72 has begun to lag after about 8 seconds after starting the recording.
After I finish record (with the lag) my processed video will jitter and pixelate where the lag spikes occured during recording.
This was not a problem until after I updated to the latest firmware a few weeks ago.
I have looked everywhere online for a solution and have decided here might bring some possible solutions. Is there any way to try and fix this without downgrading the firmware?

Just tested on my E72 running 081.003 firmware, the same problem though it lags for only 3 or 4 seconds. I actually didn't realise this before.
Wondering if SD defragment could help as flash memory card does not use hard disk's way to address tracks and sectors.
Anyway, will have a try if possible.
BTW, I personally don't think resetting the phone could help here, and the problem should not be related to other apps, too.

  • How to use rtp to transmit data other than audio / video

    hi all,
as you all know the jmf is based upon a specific paradigm:
data source -> player (processor) -> renderer.
i am not being very precise on this but that does not matter.
i want (for testing purposes) to create a tool that transmit some custom data
(maybe even nonsense) over the rtp packages.
so as you may now see this would not work quite right with the mentioned
paradigm since there would be no audio/video to play-process-render.
so how would i go about to utilise the rtp abilities of the jmf without adhering
    to the whole player-whatever shebang.
what i have figured out is that there is a way to transmit custom rtp-payload.
there is even an example on the jmf solutions page but even this one uses
    an audio format (pcm).
i hope what it is clear to the dear reader what i want to do and maybe some-
one can help me with this.
p.s. i am not one who wants to get the whole source code (like so many
others do on this forum) for a project someone may have done on this, what
i need is a hint in the right direction.
thanks for your attention and thanks in advance for any useful hints.

Hi, I would like to make some comments that may help
you to find out how to manage your problem.
If you have a look to the JMF 2.0 API, Guide,
"Understanding the JMF RTP API", Figure 8-2
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/guide/RTPArchitecture.html#105171
you can notice that the processor is not essential.
In this pciture, the processor is inserted between two datasources,
to let you perform some operations on the media that is read from
a file or a capture device.
But the SessionManager just needs a DataSource.
With what you say, I can imagine that you want to transmit
real-time data that is not related to standard media formats.
In principle, the only think you must do is to extend the
    javax.media.protocol.DataSource abstract class and implement
    it at your own convenience.
Once your custom class is written, you can call the SessionManager's
method createSendStream(DataSource ds, int streamindex) passing
for argument an instance of your mentioned custom implementation.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck ;-) !

  • Firewire speeds and audio/video with Apple TV

    Hello,
I hope someone can give me some advice regarding 400 vs 800 Firewire connections.
After picking up an Apple TV about 8 months back, I have decided to consolidate all the audio/video content on my wife's and my Macbooks.
Looking at grabbing a Mac mini and connecting a large hard disk via Firewire to that to store everything. I don't plan on connecting the Mac mini to the TV...will continue to use the Apple TV unit for that. However, while some some of the content will sync between the Apple TV unit and external hard disk connected to the Mac mini, I figure there will still be a good portion that would be shared/streamed off the external disk as it is viewed or listened to.
I currently have an Airport Extreme network, and I am able to share/stream video and audio from my Macbook to the Apple TV and it works great. My question is, when I add the Mac mini and start streaming/sharing off the external hard disk attached to it, will there be a difference in performance if the drive is connected via 400 Firewire vs an 800 Firewire?
I figure the wireless transfer between the Mac mini and the Apple TV would be the limiting factor, but felt it prudent to at least check if the Firewire connection would have an effect.
If not, then I plan on picking up a cheap, used older model Mac mini with the 400 Firewire port to save some cash. The machine doesn't need to do anything more than stay powered on with the iTunes app running and sending files back and forth to the Apple TV.
    Thanks in advance!

No doubt the wireless transfer is the weakest link in the chain. Firewire 800 is substantially faster than 400, so you would gain some future-proofing by going with it. And the 2009 Minis come with Wifi-N, while the older models come with G/B.
A used Mini will usually lack the Apple warranty.
Minis are so handy that you have to ask yourself, why is someone getting rid of it? My somewhat cynical answer is that many Minis being sold on the used market are being gotten rid of because of some lurking problem issue that the owner hasn't been able to resolve.
If you must buy an older model, consider an Apple refurbished Mini, which comes with full warranty and current software.

  • Audio/Video Out of Sync (PE 10)

I have read some posts regarding this, but they have not been helpful.
I recordered audio/video with an ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T in 720p .mp4 format.
When importing into Premiere Elements 10 on a Windows 7 (64bit) PC, the audio and video are sometimes out sync when editing, and when they are rendered to the final product, they are always out of sync.
I have tried changing to other formats (.avi), as some people stated that variable frame rate issues can come up when using a non-camcorder to record video, but the .avi actually made it worse, to the point that only the audio played.
I turned my PC off and on again, and killed all background actions on the PC.  The video plays fine in Windows Media Player and VCPlayer.
If anyone has advice as to how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.  I've spent 7 hours on this project, and am more frustrated than ever.
    Thank you.

    nierielimladris
I have downloaded your AVCHD.mp4 video, checked its properties, and studied its performance in Premiee Elements 10 Windows 7 64 bit from the point of view of import, playback of rendered Timeline in Edit Mode monitor, and playback of an AVCHD.mp4 export of that Timeline content. I stared into the monitor to watch the lip movements as the sound played  back. In any of the following I have not observed any out of sync audio.
    MediaInfo basic properties included
    a. AVCHD video compression, frame size 1280 x 720 @ 15.119 progressive frames per second (variable frame rate with minimum = 13.501 and maximum at 18.793)
    b. AAC audio, mono.
Premiere Elements 10 project preset that I used was
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD LITE 720p24
In Project media, Interpret Footage told me that it recognized a frame rate of 15.0710.
Rendered the Timeline content and watched the lip movement as I listened to the audio. No out of sync audio.
    For export,
    Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    Presets = MP4 HD720p24
under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, I set for 1220 x 720 @ 15 progressive frames per second. The export settings dialog under Advanced Button/Video Tab looked like the following
I watched the playback of this AVCHD.mp4 export and again did not observe any out of sync audio.
All video playbacks were with Windows Media Player 12.
Have you worked specifically with the video clip that you provided for download? If you have and you
found out of sync audio, then I am suspecting that this might be a system rather than a video problem.
It is a way out stretch, but...there have been some strange display goings on with Premiere Elements 10 and NVIDIA video card drivers recently. For all these cases, the answer has been rolling back the video card driver instead of the typical "making sure you have the latest version of the driver installed". What video card are you using in your computer?
Please review and then we can decide what next.

  • Nokia E72 encryption & OVI Maps

    Hi,
I have two issues about the E72:
    1. My E72 came with a 4GB microSD card with OVI Maps installed on it. Unfortunately there are only 1023 MB free out of 4GB, so I planned to buy a bigger card. I would like toi know if I can simply copy all the data from the opriginal 4GB card to the new one? Will the applications still work?
    2. If I enable phone memory encryption in my phone, some applications stop working, i.e. OVI Maps does not work anymore, OVI Store stops working. I have to disable the phone memory encryption in order applications restart working. Is there a way to havbe phone memory enabled and still have the applications working fine?
    Thanks.

    beowulfpt wrote:
I did stop using encryption as there is a slight loss of speed and overall I concluded that it was not really safe since people could access my data without knowing the lock code. (a probable exploit scenario using Voyager Home screen). I mentioned that in another post (no one seemed to worry).
As far as I can tell, in that setup encryption is useless and ends up being annoying (because Nokia forced a maximum of 20 minute time-out for the lock in that case, meaning that it auto-locks sometimes when not handy.... while navigating in the car, listening to audiobooks, etc).
    /t5/Eseries-Devices-and/Nokia-E72-Bypassing-RAM-Card-encryption/m-p/658040#M64312
Going to reply to my own post saying that the annoying 20 minute limit for auto-lock when encryption is still enforced in the new firmware released this week (051).
If you are using encryption, it is not possible to have it set to higher values.
I'm re-encrypting my E72 (ram and card) to see how it performs now. Maybe it still crashes some apps when it auto-locks, making it useless for instance for trips while GPS navigating.
Will need to test to see if it is still possible to bypass the mem+card encryption code using JBakTaskman/Voyager Home as it was before... but I bet they didn't fix it.
Lame Nokia, lame... strong encryption still not useful.

It will be in a Browser on a Mac and involve a Video Plugin (most likely Flash).

It used to be Flash in the very beginning but then Google produced their Own - which at times has been known to clash with the Flash one
However Mac to Mac with Facebook will allow you to both use Messages.
Facebook's Chat ID is a Jabber ID and added as such (Other in Mavericks).
Google Talk is also a Jabber Server and Messages has a separate account option for that.
Messages can Video chat, Mac to Mac over either the AIM service  (AIM and Apple Issued IDs) or over Jabber (those listed above or other Jabber server IDs)
What Messages cannot do is Video (or Audio) Chat to someone logged in via a Bowser to Google of Facebook or using a specific app (there was an GoogleTalk for PC app at one stage).

  • Slow audio/video ichat startup connection

I work in a large hospital. I am looking at using ichat across a LAN (other .mac buddies).
I can quickly access buddies and text chat, but initiating audio/video with isight camera takes up to 5 mins. The other buddy clicks on the "accept" button for my incoming call, but then there is a 5 min lag before video connection is established. Once established we can then get reasonable video/audio. It is the initial connection that is really quite slow.
any suggestions how my IT Dept can fix this - is it a broadband issue, or a ports issue?
    thanks

Not quite Chris - your hospital will probably have a device or several devices distributing IP addresses connecting everyone to the network - the DHCP server. That device could have more work to do (ie number of users, traffic volume) than it is capable of delivering at speed. Using Bonjour for iChat relies on this device matching up buddies - if the device is busy you'll have to wait longer to be matched up for video chat. Ask your IT department to look at whether these devices are hitting 100% CPU - if yes that will most certainly be your problem waiting 5 minutes to connect.
Meanwhile - a separate suggestion - it sometimes helps to speed things up by reducing the number of directories your Mac looks at when searching busy networks. AppleTalk is the original Bonjour - SMB relates to communication with Windows. If performance remains unchanged simply tick them back on.
    Any use?

  • Audio/video not syncing on a PC with i-tunes movies.

Recently started having a problem with the audio and video of my itunes movies on my PC. Had no problem for the longest time, years. I get up to 3 seconds gap, video ahead of audio on every movie I play. If I pause for a few seconds, the audio/video sync but shortly after, start to separate again. I reinstalled i-tunes, reinstalled my movies one at a time from the cloud. If helpful, for some unknown reason, all my movies recently were deleted from the hard drive memory but were still available from the cloud. Don't seem to have the issue when playing movies on my i-touch. Audio on the computer while playing a movie seems to have pops or quick gaps when the a/v is drifting apart. These are memory resident movies not played from cloud storage.

  • Integrate native WebRTC audio/video on all AIR platforms including Adobe Media Server

    Hey everybody,
It is apparent that Adobe is very busy trying to keep up with improving and fixing video and audio bugs on all platforms. Thankfully, in the past month Adobe finally made a H264 video with Nellymoser audio stream work on Androids! That took a while to make that work. But even though that is working, AIR on Androids still cannot transmit H264 video. Also AIR on iOS cannot view live video, but instead video has to be wrapped inside a Apple HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) format which introduces way too much latency for live audio/video streaming. Also AIR cannot transmit AAC Audio, and echo cancellation with Nellymoser just doesnt make the cut.
Everybody is aware that Flash Player can only stream video/audio smoothly for 1 in 10 users. There is just way too much for Adobe to do to get audio/video to work again and to work for everybody on every device.
So because WebRTC has much more development effort going into it, and because it is being promoted as free source to try to make the proprietary licensing world to rethink H264 and AAC audio, perhaps Adobe should just focus their efforts on implementing the existing and mostly working WebRTC libraries into Adobe AIR.
Since these libraries are becoming so popular, Adobe could also integrate support for WebRTC into the Adobe Media Server for recording, peer-to-peer negotiation, and firewall hole punching.
See my feature request here to integrate native WebRTC audio/video on all platforms
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3728399
So will you vote with me to get WebRTC into Adobe AIR and Adobe Media Server?
Adobe could essentially deprecate many existing features requests and bug fixes related to audio video and solve many problems with WebRTC such as:

Add support to stream AAC HE-AAC v2 audio, allowing iOS to be an endpoint that can receive audio and video:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=selectBug&CFGRIDKEY=3694393
Add support to transmit H264 video from an Android:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=selectBug&CFGRIDKEY=3648262
Decreased video latency and more performance on Androids regardless of the 32-bit/64-bit ARM Intel processors
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=selectBug&CFGRIDKEY=3648268
    Improve video quality and bandwidth:
    HEVC, H265, VP9

No there has been no update nor comment from Adobe regarding adding support for WebRTC. According to this year's roadmap they are booked! So it appears that we will not be seeing WebRTC in the ActionScript platform this year unfortunately. Back in March I made some predictions as to what might be considered higher priority for Adobe to be working on. It appears that list is still being worked on by the Adobe AIR/Flash team. They still have not finished support for iOS 8, and they still have several months to get hardware accelerated video finished. And VideoTexture is still in beta and will probably be in beta until AIR version 19 I would guess. Then 64-bit AIR runtime will be completed 3rd quarter along with HTML5 improvments for the 4th quarter. It looks like Adobe is completely booked.
