Stupid attachment names: photo.jpg, image.jpg

If I email pictures from my iPhone, it stupidly names renames the attachments photo.jpg or image.jpg depending on how I do the attachment. I could not find a setting to keep the original name.
Thanks in advance
PS Just curious, does anybody share my view? I think that iOS becomes more and more anti-Mac (that is, as stupid as it gets). It is very frustrating. In this particular case, why rename the attachment? It doesn't make any sense. (I keep buying iPhones out of inertia - thanks to the Macs)

Hi Gaurav,
Thanks for your reply.
I have already done the changes given in those notes(SICF settings).
I am able to get file type information for all other file types for images like bmp, tif, and gif.
Not getting for only jpg file type.
Any other inputs welcome.

  • Photos sent as email attachments from iPhone ALWAYS have the file name -- photo.jpg?

Do all photos sent from an iPhone to an email address get sent with the name -- photo.jpg?
Anybody know of a way to have the iPhone not send all emailed photos as photo.jpg

Is there no one from Apple who reads these discussion/community boards?  Over 245 views and no reply to your question.  I saw a similar concern from 2009 with over 700 views and no reply.  I can't believe that Apple hasn't fixed this.
I am a Blackberry user and have the choice to switch over to iphone next year.  I have to use my phone on a daily basis for work to take photos and email them to multiple people (including myself).  Blackberry has always uniquely named each photo with the date it was taken plus a unique identifier so it's really easy to file, email, and figure out which photo was which (they also list by name and not just thumbnail).
I would really like to switch over to iphone but if there isn't an app or some way to fix this...I don't know what I will do.  You'd think that an issue that's over 4 years old would have been resolved by now....?  The other thing that is really annoying with iphone photos is that whenever someone emails me with them, a lot of times they are upside down, even if they corrected it on their phone before emailing it to me.  Somehow the photos do not work well with Microsoft Outlook.

  • Ipad only uses one file name when uploading images via email

We have an image tool that uploads images to a template website. The problem is the file names for these images must be unique any duplicate file names will be rejected. Some of our users want to be able to upload from the field but Ipad only assigns the file name "photo.JPG" to jpegs. It doesn't seem to include the sequential extension that actually does exist for the image on the file name when uploading. Is there a way to get ipad to do so, or is this something that Apple maybe want to consider looking into. I can easily see the average Joe emailing themselves images and hitting save only to replace and lose an older image because let's face it, not all users are on MACs and PC's do not allow multiple files to have the same file name in the same folder.

    Hi,
Based on the description, you could send email to external addresses without the Twin Oaks software. However, with the Twin Oaks software, you couldn't send successfully.
For this issue, I recommend you enable message tracking and check whether you could retrieve message tracking log entires when you send emails to external addresses through the Twin Oaks software.
If you couldn't retrieve message these tracking log entires when you send emails to external addresses through the Twin Oaks software, it means that the Exchange server is OK and the crux of the problem is the Twin Oaks software.
Here is an article about message tracking log for your reference.

  • What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing." ?

What does this message mean? : "The file name "DSC_0088.jpg" is offline or missing."   I am in the process of importing photos from iPhoto (don't really know what I'm doing....) and when I look at one of the imported photos that message pops up.  I know what "DSC_0088.jpg" is.  I don't know what it means that the file is "missing".

    CASpyr,
Thank you so much for your reply.  I have a couple of bigger issues that I am dealing with: too many photos on my laptop: 40,000! (Of course I have to throw away many of them, but that is time consuming). I have a MacBook Pro and have primarily used IPhoto. I have recently purchased 2 external drives and have transferred my photos to those, but I need a basic education about how photos are stored, copied, etc.  I have recently been told that iPhoto only shows and deals with jpegs, not RAW.  About 1/3 of my photos are RAW, so I purchased Lightroom, so I could do more with those RAW photos.  I have been told by my local Mac store that I need to delete most of my photos from iPhoto, because it's causing problems.  I am reluctant to do so until I am sure that all of the keywords, descriptions and editing I have done to these photos is not lost when deleted from iPhoto. I just watched a tutorial about importing to Lightroom and got out of it that I needed to copy photos from iPhoto to a file on my desktop and then copy to Lightroom.  I did that, it seemed to work.  Then (because of my storage/memory issues) I deleted the photos (just a few as an experiment) from that desktop file.  I'm guessing that is why Lightroom doesn't recognize the the photos.  It seems that (learned from another tutorial) that one uses "Add" , Lightroom is only connecting to the source of the photo, not  actually copying it to the program.  Sounds like I need to use the "Move" feature instead.  My ultimate goal is to store the photos on the 2 external drives and eliminate most of them from my lapop.  So my basic questions have to do with what data (metadata??) is copied from iPhoto to an external drive (RAW???) and what isn't copied. Basic understanding issues, obviously….  I hope this isn't too much to ask.  If you can recommend a book or resource that can explain those basic issues to me I'd appreciate it.  I just got back from a trip and I can't download my new photos until I manage the rest!
    Thanks,
    Nancy

  • Need help converting photo jpg to a video file.

So I have a 6 minute animation that was sent to me as a series of photo-jpgs. I need to convert them to a video file rather than a huge sequence of stills so I can add some transitions. The images are 1920 by 1080. I don't want to compress them at all until the final render. What sequence settings should I use and how should I export? I know there a billion and two different ways to do this but for some reason I keep screwing it up.
    Jon

As long as the images are sequentially numbered, 001, 002 etc,
    1. open up QT Pro and import as a still image sequence and save is as an animation codec.
    2. create a sequence using the animation codec as the basis, import all the images and drop them into the timeline.
Recognize that the animation codec requires a huge bit of horsepower and disk throughput to edit in real time.

  • Change the name of an image file in Photos app

Just wondering how you change the name of an image file in the new 2015 Photos app?

The only way to change the filename of an image is to export the image with a new filename:  When exporting you can select the title a s a new filename.
Then reimport the renamed file to Photos and delete the original version.

  • Image Attachment instead of embedded image (for sending photos)

    Hi,
Is there a way to make mail send photos as an attachment rather than as an embedded image in the email? My colleagues are using Lotus Notes at work. Everytime I send them photos, they complain to me that they are having a hard time downloading the pictures 'coz they cannot simply click on it and save.
    thanks,
    zurc

    zurc,
I sent mail in text-only format and put attachments at the very end of the message. I think photos and images are shown inline when send in a message in formatted-text format.
Putting the files at the very end of the message prevents the mail being "split up" in several parts (body, photo attachment, and signature as attachment) which is also annoying for Windows users.
I have to admit that I don't know if this works with Lotus Notes, but you could give it a try.

  • Embed Attachment (Word / Excel / JPG / BMP ) in a Smartform or Adobe PDF ?!

    Hi everybody
Can we embed an attachment (Word / Excel / JPG / BMP ) in an Adobe PDF Document thro ABAP ?!
    Or
Can the attachment be embedded in a Smartform and then convert the OTF to PDF ?!
    Appreciate a quick reply !!
    Thanxxx
    Jibu

That's what I forgot to add to my previous reply. As far as I know, this is not (yet) possible for Smartforms. And what do you mean by Adobe PDF?
The methods I know for doing this are only available for AIF:

  • Export QT photo jpg === bad

    Using Vista x64:
    Exporting a sequence from CS4 result in a low quality movie;
Created a full HD sequence (1920x1080@25 square pix)
place some Ful HD movies on the timeline and export the movie via media encoder.
    As export settings used:
QT photo jpg 100% quality 1920x1080@25 square pix
This result in a very low quality file!?
Copying the movies in the sequence to After Effects CS4 (after first deleting the preference files otherwise Media encoder will hang!!)
Then exporting with the same settings gives the correct result.
    Anyone knows why this happens?
    Menno

What version of QT do you have?
Apparently, from anecdotal evidence, the latest version (7.5.5) and the Adobe Media Encoder don't play nice with each other right now.
It will take an update from Apple and/or Adobe to make QuickTime export work properly.
Until then, some other lossless codec should be used. I recommend
    Lagarith
on Windows. I have no idea what is available for Mac.

  • How can I transfer my photos (jpg) from the computer to the ipad2?

    Did you do this?

  • In fiefox 4, you can't save attached Jpeg photos, as Jpeg photos, firefox 4 saves then as a html

After upgrading to Firefox 4, when I down load an attached file ( which is a Jpeg photo, and I'm using Yahoo mail ) Firefox 4 will not save the file as a Jpeg, it wants to save it as a HTML ..... I didn't have this problem with earlier versions of Firefox .... now I have to use another program to convert the image, which is a PIA and adds more time, this is a so called improvement?

Probably only the file extension is wrong and all you need to do is to rename the files and change the .html to .jpg to get valid JPG image files. If you save files in Firefox then you can add the file extension yourself. If you do not see the .html file extension in Windows Explorer then you need to add quotes around the name while renaming ("image.jpg"). You can check the file type via the right-click context menu > Properties.

  • E-mail Attachment Name Changes

I have a following problem with mail attachments: When I drag the attachment from my mail window onto my desktop, the attachment name changes to "unknown". So for example, "cat.jpg" would become "unknown.jpg". To make this a bit more complicated, the problem is a bit random and from this it follows that sometimes the file keeps the original and correct file name and sometimes it changes it. Also, this problem occurs only when I drag the attachment (which normally is image) from email window, but if I pull the attachment from above the message window, where it has a little arrow and it shows all the attachment icons, this problem does not happen. I am running Tiger and Mail 2.1. It would we really great if you could take a sec to answer this if you have any idea at all what this problem might to be. Thanks!
    Best, Rauno

Hi Rauno, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Hmmm, since it's random, might try this...
Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
First, Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these files to the Desktop.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail
    Move to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
You can always move them back if it doesn't help.
