Stupid, but essential question : Waiting until Spring for new MB

I know, I know....this is yet another one of those stupid questions....but I can't stop thinking about it...
After two delayed shipment dates, I am kinda sick of Apple as of right now....I'm hearing that they're possibly coming out with a new MB this coming spring. The new MB supposedly comes with the core 2 duo processor, and a new logic board to fully take advantage of the new processor. I do have a vaio laptop right now..so I guess I don't mind waiting.....except the grueling pain of wanting to have an apple for the next....6 months.....
What would YOU do?.....(should I just wait for my MB to come or should I cancel the order and wait 'til next spring?....)
(again, I know this is a stupid question, so don't mention it....I just wanted to get the general public perspective.)

i was in the same position as you and i totally understand how you feel.
in my case, i could not wait (eventhough i desperately wanted to) because my school starts in a less than a week so i needed a notebook. i received my macbook about a week ago without major problems. all seems to be working fine. however, after owning it, there is really nothing special about the macbook. sure, it's more attractive than other notebooks, but it gives you nothing more and nothing less(except the operating system) than what dell or sony has to offer.
and besides, include me in the less-impressed customer category of the macbook series. even with little things that happen with my macbook (ie overheating), i get paranoid for no apparent reason. simply put, the macbook is a torturing machine. no righful owner should feel this way.
with the macbook series, apple has progressed in terms of the style and versitility that they can bring out to the market. however, they have taken a step backwards in terms of reliability. you should wait for the second generation macbooks where they will be more familiar with its design flaws and hopefully will make it better.
so in conclusion, i'll give you a little SAT format summary:
apple is to steve jobs; as macbook is to paris hilton.

Question about Northbridge of P965 Platinum (Holes or springs for new NB cooler)

If anybody know if the Northbridge on the P965 Platinum have holes or spring for the heatsink.
I want to install a new NB cooler. So i was wondering if the NB was mounted with screws or springs.
It would be nice if i did´nt had to take out the hole board again. That means if i could use the spring
My new cooler have both systems. Its just a matter of what i can use with the board.

They both have installing system for either Holes or Springs (Anchor clips). But it would be easyst with springs
because then i dont have to take out the MOBO to install the back plate.

When you create a New PSA, one of the approach you could follow is to know the current structure of the organization. i.e. if its Region wise like North, South, East, West etc,
i.e.what is the current Personnel Area (PA ) Structure, based on that you can probe the client how further they want to divide Enterprise Structure, keeping in mind :
1) How they want to group the Employees for Time Management
2) How they want to group the Employees for Payroll Management
3) Benefits
3) Ensuring that further additions is possible, for Eg: if there are unions which needs separate treatment in terms of Time and Payroll.
Eg 1: If Company is ABC and if PA is 1) North 2) South 3) East 4) West etc
Then PSA can be:
Option a) In PA North the PSA's can be city wise i.e. Delhi, Chandighar etc similarly In PA South PSA's can be Chennai, Bangalore etc if the client want it City wise.
Option b) In PA North the PSA's can be Dept wise i.e. Purchasing, Sales, Finance, Human Resource Etc and the same PSA's can be in other PA's
Option c) In PA North the PSA's can be i) Management ii) Non-Management etc, Later if there are unions to be added you can create another PSA for specific Unions in each PA's
The above a just some examples, you will have to jointly take the decision along with Client.
But ensure that you cover all possibilities and also there is scope for new additions.

Stupid but viable question

My mate has a 30gig ipod and has a 10gig computer hd... he only has used about 4gig on the ipod (meaning 4gig is on the comp as well(of music)) is itpossible to copy his songs to the hd of the ipod (HD mode is enabled) and import the into itunes from his HD.... this will mean potentially he has 8 gig of files, 4gig in which are playable, the other 4 for itunes to understand

He might be better off getting an external hard drive to hold all the song files.
It can be risky only holding the song files on only on the iPod - if it is lost, has to be reset, etc he will have a lot of work to get the files back on there.
But maybe I didn't understand your question.

A few boring but essential questions

OK... ok so I have taken my head out of the oven one last time to try and get a handle on this before paying Apple MORE money for a one to one tutorial in store (I have been using FCP for ten years by the way!)
1. How do I add keyframes to video clips to manipulate the image/title?
2. How do I fade music in and out under voiceover (would have used the pen in FCP previously)?
I can't believe I am having to learn a new program/app when i have work to do! Keep going back to FCP Studio 2 but thought I'd give this a chance for one project.

Adding keyframes is pretty easy. There are two places you can keyframe; first, in the video inspector window, and second in the video animation editor. Here's the main help page that goes over the video animation editor:

To add keyframes using the inspector window, simply place the playhead where you want a keyframe and next to the parameter, click on the little keyframe icon. It will turn yellow when activated. Now you can set the parameter to whatever you want it to be. Move the playhead somewhere else and repeat as desired.
Fading music for specific ranges is also very easy. Use the Range tool (R). Drag across the area you want the volume to be lowered. then within that selected range, lower the volume by dragging the dB line or using keyboard shortcuts (command-minus). Keyframes will automatically be created for you to lower and raise the volume accordingly. You can further adjust these keyframes if you so desire. Here's the relevant help page:

Waiting it out for new ACD revisions?

I am on the edge of splurging for either a new 23 or 30 inch ACD, but I would kill myself if I bought one right before a big revisions. I have read the rumors and all, but I still have absolutely no idea what to do. To go for it, or to wait. Any suggestions??
Maybe a 24 inch HD LED introduction will come after a bit, and if that were the case, I would hate myself for buying a 23 ACD now.

Seriously, new displays can't be far off. It's been several years since the current line up was introduced and the displays are now the "oldest" products in the Apple lineup...

Question about pre-approval for new construction

I am interested in doing an FHA loan for a new construction home. The builder allows buyers to put down only $2000 upfront if you get pre-approved through their preferred lender. My question is do we have to have ALL the monies we need for down payment and closing costs in the bank before the lender will do a pre-approval? We still need to save a bit but I know we will have everything by the time the building is completed and it's time to close on the loan. Any folks out there with experience that can help me understand how it might work? I don't want to be premature on applying for the preapproval but I'd love to start the process soon if possible.

I am a sales counselor with a national home builder. We require preapproval with our lender in order to sign a purchase agreement. AT signing we require an earnest money deposit [not to be confused with downpayment for mortgage purposes] and it varies from $3,000 to $10,000. The EMD is kept in escrow and is returned to the buyer at the closing table. A downpayment is how much money the buyer is bringing to the closing table and that determines how much mortgage money your lender will deliver to the closing table. The EMD can be used for downpayment as it remains the buyer's money. At our discretion, we will allow a buyer to sign a purchase agreement and allow them to save for the downpayment over the 5 months of construction time. It is always preferable that the downpayment money is already sitting in an account up front ... but that is not always the case. It reallly depends on the builder whether or not the downpayment has to be already available at preapproval time.

If you were able to do it on the Mini you should be able to on an iMac, they use the same versions of OS X. You just have to recall how you set it up.

Buy MACBOOK now or wait for newer ?

I'm a student in college right now in need of a laptop and stuff. I'm not really looking for power as much as I'm looking for efficiency. My dilemma arises when I can buy a macbook with like -$100 or -$200 if your in college and stuff + a $300 iPod touch before september 15th or should i wait for the newer version of macbooks, which I heard will be released in mid-late september.
What is your opinion on this one? I can still live by and wait without a laptop as school just barely started so i barely need to talk notes and stuff...

I think that you should not get a new MacBook now, because the fact that you "don't" need it now. Apple has not released any information about anything new, and they just released the new iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBooks and MacBook Airs so I doubt that Apple will release any new computer products in the near future. Although Apple may surprise you, but I suggest waiting until you really need one, and then purchase it.

Question about having name for 5 Ghz network

The subject title sounds stupid, but the question is straightforward. Do you tend to give your 5 Ghz network a different, separate network name in your Airport Extreme? In the "Wireless" options you are presented with the choice to give the 5 Ghz network a different name, thereby giving you the option to connect to the 5 or the 2.4. Is there any benefit to this? And if you don't give it a separate name, to which frequency does your computer automatically connect?

I think most users tend to use the same network name with "5 GHz" added to indicate which band they are using. The idea here is to simply identify the 5 GHz band, so Apple adds the "5 GHz" by default unless you change this yourself.
The benefit to assigning a separate name to the 5 GHz band is that you can "force" a computer to connect to this band. Surprisingly to many users, this can also be a negative (see information below). Or, if you plan to "extend" your wireless network with an AirPort Express, you can choose to extend either the 5 GHz band or the 2.4 GHz band.
If you don't assign a separate name to the 5 GHz band, your computer will automatically connect to the signal with the best combination of strength and low noise.
Because 5 GHz signals are absorbed by walls, ceilings and any other obstructions much more quickly than 2.4 GHz signals, your computer will likely connect to the 5 GHz band when it is the same room as your wireless router or it has close to line-of-sight with the wireless router. Once you are a few rooms away, or down the hall and around the corner, your computer will likely connect to the 2.4 GHz band because these signals "travel" better.

The QA process for new extension submission.

Just have a few general questions about the process for new extension submission. I submitted a new extension to the exchange on June 21, but have yet to see the status of my item change. What's the typical turnaround time for the QA team on new extensions? As well, should there be any issue with a new submission, what kind of feedback is typically given? Thanks to those who've gone through the submission experience, and can answer my questions.

To follow up on this question. On August 23rd my extension was approved. Not sure if this is the typical amount of time to expect for a submission to be approved as this is the only extension I've submitted so far. I never recieved any requests to change my extension, so the length of time wasn't due to changes that needed to be made on my part. Based on the large number of extensions approved on the same date as mine, my guess is that Adobe waits till they have a fair amount of submissions to QA, and then puts them through the QA process in batches.
