Stupid case question...

You folks have scared the crap out of me with all the cracked screen problems.
I have crafted a hard shell case for my white nano made out of a small eyeglasses case with a whole cut out for the headphone jack. I also added some soft foam so it doesn't jostle around.
One question though, can the nano overheat and be damaged this way?

Probably not. My other iPods have been kept in cases without apparent harm - and my oldest iPod will soon by four years old. The only time the iPod heats up is when it is recharging so if you have any concerns about overheating, you can take it out of the case when charging it.

  • North American Student Dashboard Challenge – Business Case Questions

    Students, post your business case questions for the North American Student Dashboard Challenge here.
    Good luck with the challenge!

    Two of the KPIs which need to be included in the dashboard are:
    1. Income vs Expenses
    2. Performance to Budget
    There is no income statement in the attached excel files, we are just given statement of cash flow. For individual items under revenue and expense we need an income statement. This is required for designing dashboard for KPI 1.
    For KPI 2, the case study asks to display comparison of Actual vs Budget for 4 revenue items - corporate, individual, foundations, and special events - as a chart component. The attached excel files does not have adequate information on this either.
    I see only two spreadsheets in the Excel file JA Financial Statements 2006 - 2011 - 1. Statements of Functional Expense; and 2. Statements of Cash Flow - Table.
    Please help what needs to be done here. The case study says to refer - Statement of Activites Tab from JA Financial Statements.xls for KPI 1 and KPI 2. However, there is no such spreadsheet on this Excel file. I have downloaded the project data from the following link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/uac/index?rid=/library/uuid/30ee1571-2533-2f10-31bd-8826243425ee

  • IMovie and iDVD, Stupid Upgrade Questions, Sorry Must Ask

    Okay, the deal is I have a PowerMac G4 Version 2.1 with a Combo Drive. I am upgrading to Mac OSX 3.0 so I can do certain things in iMovie and acquire a better browser. (My constraints on the iMovie project about which I've been inquiring are that at least 40 people have been waiting for copies of it for about a month and wondering why I don't come through with it--I sent a lengthy explanation to the guy who'll be duplicating it in case anyone asks. That's one reason I'm in such a hurry I have to ask urgent questions at forums and newsgroups and don't take the time to read every word ever written on every one of these systems and their various applications, abilities, and uses.)
    I started out thinking I was about one step from having a completed project and the more I learn, the more grim the situation looks. Yet I've done ALL THIS WORK already to create beautiful titles and elaborately-edited outtakes. I HATE to ditch it all if any faint hope flickers into sight!
    My Mac came with the following:
    iMovie 3.0.3 -- which seems to be working fine, only problem is, due to deficiencies in other equipment, I'm having trouble getting my movie to DVD or into any other form where it can be played anywhere outside the Mac!
    iDVD 2.1 -- My feeble brain, inadequate as it may be, has so far gathered the information that to go to DVD, a project can't be played in iMovie and sent straight to a DVD burner (can it?) There has to be some intermediary step. (Right?) People have argued the various merits of iDVD vs. Toast to accomplish this step. I hadn't opened my copy of iDVD because I am in no way near the point of being ready to make a DVD--I have not yet finished editing the project in iMovie. I made the hideous error of ASSUMING that since this came installed in my Mac, it would work fine when needed, just as iMovie did. When I tried to open it just to see what version I had, it wouldn't open and told me this:
    System Requirements
    iDVD 2 requires a PowerMac G4 computer with 256 Megs of RAM, a built-in DVD-R Superdrive and Mac OS 10.1.3 or later.
    Stupid redundant bonus question #1: WHY would this come installed on a Mac which lacks the hardware to use it? (iMovie could still be used to edit, and then copy projects--if I had a digital video camera--which I don't. The only other way we've figured is to send it back through the Canopus ADVC110 converter I used to get the video in there, and play it out to a VCR--a cumbersome process I've been assured will result in crummy quality.)
    Okay, here are the REAL questions:
    1. I don't suppose there's any way the Canopus could be connected to the DVD burner and the information sent to a DVD that way? Just asking.
    2. Obviously the upgrade isn't going to fix things to make iDVD work, as I'm already using Mac OSX 10.2.8, so I would assume its discontent stems from not having the Superdrive--at least, it was complaining something about inadequate hardware and I think that's what it meant. Will connecting a DVD burner via FireWire convince iDVD to work (either automatically or after some sort of tweaking), or am I stuck replacing the drive? I bought a DVD burner the minute I realized my drive was a Combo Drive and not a Superdrive (which is the first time I stuck a blank DVD in it and nothing happened) before learning details about this intermediary step and that there is more than one way to accomplish it.
    3. Is it even worth replacing the Combo Drive with a Superdrive or is it more worth buying a whole new Mac? If I am FORCED to buy a new Mac, what should I do with the old one? (Not only am I ethically opposed to tossing a perfectly good piece of electronic equipment into the ravine, I might get fined for littering. Can a good home be found for it? For that matter it would be a pain as I've saved all sorts of stuff to the Hard Drive which would have to be transferred to the new one before I could get rid of the old one. So can I keep the old one...PLEASE?)
    4. After making the system upgrade, will I be able to bypass iDVD entirely by using Toast, or does Toast also have all sorts of requirements my hardware does not possess so I'll still be SOL, stuck replacing drives or even the whole Mac, or going directly to crummy-quality VHS as there is NO OTHER WAY OUT?
    5. After making the system upgrade, would I be ready for more advanced versions of iMovie and iDVD? Are any upgrades free, or does every improvement cost? Do I get them all at the Apple site, order some of them from some supplier or other the way I did with the Mac OSX upgrade, or what?
    Thanks for helping to clear up my massive confusion!!!

    Wow, thanks. It's good to know iDVD is still an option, even if I don't buy the Superdrive (is that even possible, to get the Combo Drive taken out of my current Mac and a Superdrive put in? There's a question still unanswered.)
    (I think this is good to know--because part of my reasoning in asking the question was to eliminate one option or the other, and now I'm ending up with options of options, but hold on for Part 2 as I do have some questions concerning the capabilities of iDVD and Toast.)
    Partly answering one of my own questions (although I'd appreciate confirmation from someone who actually knows,) if these Toast 7 requirements mean what I think they do, I don't see anywhere that it says the computer MUST have a Superdrive and CAN'T use an external DVD burner!
    Toast 7 Titanium
    Requirements:
    * PowerPC G4 processor or faster (G5 recommended for viewing DivX files on your Mac)
    * PowerPC G3 processor and Mac OS 10.2 users, see Toast 6 Titanium or Popcorn
    * Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later
    * 300 MB of free disk space to install
    * Up to 15 GB of temporary free disk space during usage
    * QuickTime 7 or later
    * CD or DVD burner and recordable media
    If this is true (that I can use an external DVD burner) I like Toast already! My Quicktime Player is only version 6.5.2--is it going to be difficult, expensive, or both, to upgrade that? If it is or the other System Requirements are not met I can just go with Toast 6.
    As far as those requirements, I promise you I don't understand a word of it but here is what my System Profiler says my Mac has. Maybe someone can make sense of it and help me decide which version of Toast to get or, if not, what to do:

    One thing which may really sway me in favor of Toast is, will it make possible burning 2-hour DVDs? Supposedly iDVD will not enable anything longer than 90 minutes, and when I get to the other big project for which I really want to use the Canopus ADVC 110 converter, that is, converting my home movies from either VHS or 8mm video camera tape to DVD--well, ALL of my tapes are two hours long, because that's the way they come!! I don't see being limited to making 90-minute DVDs as anything but another GIANT PAIN of which I'm already amply supplied! So if Toast will fix this dilemma I'm ALL FOR IT!
    As always, thanks for help and advice.

  • Total Mac Virgin with a stupid, simple question:

    There are no stupin questions, just stupid people, so here it goes. I'm trying to post an image on MySpace from iPhoto. I rotated it 90 degrees and it looks right in iPhoto, but when I upload it, it's ****-eyed. Someone please help. I'm a GenX'er but I feel like a geezer having to ask for help.

    Hi, fellow GenX'er.
    A couple of things could cause this. First, in which application did you rotate the image? Some apps, like Preview, don't change the source file, but rather tag the image for display. So when you export you see it unrotated. Rotating in iPhoto does create a rotated file which will look correct when exported. As long as you haven't done it in Preview prior to import, that is.
    That get us to the 2nd possibility. How did you access the file when uploading? If you went through the iPhoto library files, you may have taken the wrong file. The Original may be unrotated, the Data too small... the edited version is in the Modified folder. Instead of grabbing from the library, it is recommended that you select the image in iPhoto and File > Export > File Export to a folder on your desktop, then upload from there (trash the desktop copy when done). This ensures that you are choosing the correct, full-sized, edited image. When exporting you also have the option to resize for a more web-appropriate file.

  • Stupid exam question from last year

    I need help, this is a question i just cant seem to decifer.
    A simple way of shortening words is to remove all vowels (Like in tel. directories).
    I must write a programm that will take as input a string (of up tp 255 chars) and pritn out the same string with the vowels removed. Vowels are a,e,i,o,u. I must remove lower and Upper case vowels. without changing case of reamining string. I am not allowed to change the sapcing or punctuation.

    doesn't klingon only cover angry words?The sounds of tlhIngan Hol have occasionally been used by the KLI tribe for writing Klingon. There are no punctuation characters as Klingon doesn't use punctuation, although a few of Okrand's sentences do. Since Okrand doesn't use the Okuda orthography, and neither does Okuda, for that matter (except just randomly selecting glyphs), if we accept it as "real" Klingon pIqaD we don't really know anything about how it's written.
    The convention has developed that it's written horizontally, from left to right, like English, and usually each sentence is given its own line and centered (some follow this convention when writing the romanized orthography as well). To my knowledge there is not a formal Uncode standard for this alphabet yet.

  • A Use Case question.

    Hello all
    I am currently developing an event management assignment for my degree.
    A subset of problem statment
    Attendee is a person, who would register with the application
    in order to view the posted events.
    For this part of the problem statment i have identified a usecase
    "register attendee".
    I will type the use case here. Since i am a novice, I would really like
    design gurus to throw some light on the use case and suggest me changes
    I will really appreciate it.
    Use case : register attendee
    Pre-condition: Attendee decides to register.
    Main Success Scenario:
         Actor                         System
    1. Attendee requests to register.
                        2. Provides registration form.
    3. Attendee fills the form and
    submits.
                        4. System checks for valid
                        authentication.
    (//for eg. unique username)
                        5. System validates the information
    (//for eg.compulsory fields
                             present or not)
                        6. System notifies through mail.
                        7. Displays registration was
                        successful.
    Alternative Flow :
    4 a) Invalid authentication : Displays appropriate message.
    5 a) Invalid information : Displays appropriate message.
    6 a) Mail notification failure : Logs the failure message and email.
    Please guide me friends. I am a bit confused.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jenny

    Use case are pretty good for both of these. You know
    your system needs to allow an ATTENDEE to register
    with the SYSTEM using a REGISTRATION FORM. These sound
    like things that either you need to model (what
    attributes do the form and attendee have) or a thing
    that you need to build the "system".
    The steps in the use case tell you how the system must
    behave. It needs to "getRegistrationForm" and give it
    the attendee. The Attendee needs to
    "completeRegistrationForm" and
    "submitRegistrationForm". So, with the authentication
    and validation rounding out the process you have a
    good idea of what kind of methods you need as a base
    in order to deal with the real world concepts you have
    identified.I am through with what behaviour my system will need to provide in
    order to realize the use case. But I will have to assign the behaviour
    appropriately to classes of objects. I would like to go to the design model once i have a good understanding of the domain model. This is where the problem starts, should i identify, AuthenticationVerifier,InformationVerfier as different concepts and give later say AuthenticationVerifier the responsibility of verifying unique authentication and InformationVerfier the responsibility of verifying information received with the form or should I only take one concept of say Administrator that would perform the above two stated behaviours. I understand that it is always good to overspecify concepts rather than under specify but at some point of time i will have to make that decision.
    If its a libray system, it is easy to identify certain priliminary concepts say book, patron, etc. as they occupy some physical space. But here nothing is clear. There isn't any entity in my use case, that occupies a physical space that i can easily identify as a real world concept.
    My question is, how in this case, do someone define the notion of concept when there is nothing in the main success scenario that occupies space. My use case, only specifies what will be done with the
    attendee information, not who will do it. So as a use case developer, am i responsible to map these processes with some physical entities that i have derived for eg. AuthenticationVerfier.
    ps. You will need to add the Attendee as an Actor. She
    is the one that is initiating the activity.Does it mean that as Attendee is an actor, he/she cannot be a concept?

  • Stupid security question answers.

    I have read the "Rescue email and reset Apple ID security questions" article so many times and also added new rescue emails to my account, but I still can't change the security question answers. I have money on my account that just sits there. I have tried a few months ago and since then i still can't do anything but download free stuff. I have recieved no email about reseting anything and would like to get a better answer then the stupid apple one.

    A rescue email address is not the same thing as an alternate email address - they are different settings/addresses, and a rescue email address can only be added by answering 2 of your security questions. If you didnt already have a rescue email address set up on your account then see if the instructions on this user tip helps younger the questions reset : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4551

  • Case Questions - Size and Drive Mounting

    Planning ahead for a new i7 system, I'm going to buy components as I find them on sale... so have 2 questions about a new case
    First is Drive Mounting
    Everything I see today (have not looked at every possible case) uses some kind of "thumb lock" to mound 5.25 drives, such as a DVD drive or, in my case, the hard drive swap hardware I am going to use (Vantec MRK-200ST-BKSATA which goes in a 5.25 opening, then hard drive goes in a housing to slide in and out easily)
    I am used to the old style case with screw holes to mount 5.25 drives... so... do the new style cases really work well to hold a drive securely?
    Next question is about case size
    I'm looking at a mid-tower case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196 that seems as though it is plenty big enough for my needs, with enough 5.25 openings for DVD and two hard drives... and 3 case fans for cooling... and what looks like plenty of case width to be able to put a Noctua cooling tower on the i7 CPU
    I'm also looking a  full-tower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160 that doesn't seem to me to "really" offer anything more I need, since I'm not going to have a raid array and will only have 1 video card
    But... is there some advantage I'm not seeing to having a full-vs-mid-tower case?

    I did what I should have done in the 1st place, and read the size specifications
    A full tower case won't fit in my cabinet (heavy wood furniture we... ie the designer wife... bought for both sides of the office)
    I don't need as many external drive bays as the F-T has, so the mid-tower will do fine on that specification
    The Coolermaster Scout comes with 3 fans... front, top and back... and has side mounting for up to 2 more for CPU and video card... so I don't think cooling will be a problem
    Now, my only point of "wonder" is never having used the type of drive mounting it has... some sort of "thumb thing" you push to lock?
    But, since ALL the cases I've looked at seem to have the same/similar mounting, I guess they work OK
    Since the CM Scout, and the Corsair 850w power supply are both on sale right now, I think I'm going to buy when I get done with the Honey-Do list and put them away until I'm ready to build... which will be when Win7 64bit is a SP-1 level
    Thanks for the comments
    ADDED
    Found some pictures of the CM Scout, one of which was of the "stuff" that comes with the case
    There are drive "rails" included that look like they go on the sides of the 5.25 drives, and then those are locked into place by the quick release case locks
    ADDED2
    I have been planning on using drive swap hardware (like my current computer) to easily change boot or data drives... but now I'm thinking I'll just keep an extra drive on hand, with an Image of the boot drive made to external drive, and only actually change a drive in case of failure
    I now use a dual boot with 1st boot Win2k and Premiere 6 to run my Pinnacle Dv500 and 2nd boot WinXp, so will just set up one drive with Win2k and Win7 64bit
    I'll most likely get a 320Gig Sata drive for boot (and extra in reserve) and a 1-T Sata drive for data... with 1-T of space, I can simply put different projects in different folders and, for SD work, I'll have ample space (and, by the time I actually build, I may be able to afford a 2-T data drive)
    ADDED3
    While they are on sale, and to spread the hit to my tiny budget, I ordered PS and Case today
    PS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009
    Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119196
    Next month (or sometime soon) I'll watch for Sata drives on sale at Newegg
    I'm going to wait until just before I build to buy a motherboard, since by then the Gigabyte I'm looking at MAY be on a 2nd revision with refinements

  • Stupid JButton Question

    Really 2 questions
    1) Ive noticed in the tutorials a high level object in which JButton objects are placed all implement ActionListener, and correspondingly implement
    public void actonPerformed(ActionEvent e)
    somewhere
    Ive been going over some code I wrote a while ago (I forgot how to do all this stuff for my new app from then till now) and I noticed I was always doing
    someButton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
    executeSomeMethod();
    I realize that if all the buttons invoke independent methods it is probably better to use the second method.
    In the application I am currently developing the buttons are used to select parameters for the method invoked. Im thinking the first method might be better -- I am asking if this is the case, and if it is best to follow the tutorials (I was thinking they might be a bit old, so maybe are out of date)
    This leads up to question 2).
    The buttons select which items to remove from an internal list. Each button ids an item. How do I identify the button when the actionPerformed method is invoked? I know about setActionCommand().
    Q 2a is: Is there a better way to id the button? Each Button is associated with a Card (as in a poker deck), so the cards/buttons are IDd by a byte for suite, and a byte for value. I would like to avoid comparing strings if possible.
    Thanx in advance.

    // Action Command can be anything
    JButton[] but = new JButton[totalButtonCount]; // an array could be used (Vector = best)
    for(int x = 0; x < but.length; x++) {
        but[x] = new JButton(buttonText);
        but[x].setActionCommand("but " + x); // a string with the current index
        addButton(but[x], location);
    // So when parsing
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
       Object source = e.getSource();
        if(source instanceof JButton) {
             JButton but = (JButton) source;
            for(int x = 0; x < totalButtonCount; x++) {
                 if(but.getActionCommand().equals(but[x].getActionCommand) );
                     fireButtonAction(but.getActionCommand());
    } Is this of any help?

  • Stupid spelling question

    Hello. I appologise for the stupid question.
    How to spell "arch"?
    I look at the logo and it looks like an arc, so I thought it colud be [ark]. But it seems more seasonable to me to say [arch] as a regular word, moreover I've heared someone sayng it that way.
    Which is the correct one? Thank you

    oh, and i suppose you pronounce it the way it's written, so that's arch, not ark

  • Stupid Gamepad Question

    This proably seems like a stupid question but I am told you can use a PS3 Controller with my 2009 MBP, and I am also told that you can use a wired XBOX 360 controller or wireless if you have a reciever and the correct drivers, but XBOX uses IR when PS3 use bluetooth, so PS3 would work but so should the XBOX because my MBP has an IR reciever?
    (If that makes no sense: can I use my WIRELESS XBOX contoller WITHOUT the reciever but WITH the drivers?

  • Stupid terminal question

    Hi,
    I have a stupid question, are terminals bi-directional? That is, can a terminal
    do input as well as output? How do I distinguish? If a sub vi has a numeric

    See my post to your previous question.
    This input, output, control , indicator, business is confusing for new users.
    A terminal (on the connector pane) will be can be *Either* an input or an
    output (but not both at the same time). This is determined by what you
    wire to it.
    Now here is the tricky part. When you do this on SubVis the terminals
    *APPEAR* to be the opposite of what you wire to them. When we talk
    about these it is best to refer to the controls / indicators, as sources and
    sinks.
    One is the source of data , the other is the sink of the data. The role that the
    control or indicator takes depends on where you look at it in the data flow chain.
    Here is a simple example.
    VIMain has Sub1 and Sub2 on its diagram.
    Sub1 has a control#1, wired to indicator#1. Control#1 is on the left terminal
    and indicator#1 is on the right terminal. Sub2 looks exaclty the same, except
    the items are named Control#2 and Indicator#2.
    I drop these on VImain and wire from the right terminal of Sub1 to the left
    terminal of Sub2.
    I set the value of control#1 , and run VIMain. Control#1 sources the value and
    Indicator#1 sinks it.
    Since this is tied to Sub2, Indicator#1 immediately *Sources* the value,
    Control#2, sinks it.
    Control#2 *Sources* the value and Indicator#2 sinks the value and all Vis stop.
    If you always wire Controls to the left hand terminals and Indicators to the Right
    hand terminals
    it makes it much easier. Also turning on the help and passing the cursor over a
    subVI will show
    you what these terminals are tied to. If the wire goes to the left this is a
    control and is the SubVIs *INPUT*
    if the wire goes to the right it is tied to an Indicator and is the SubVIs
    *OUTPUT*.
    Hope this makes it a little more clear.

  • H8-1520T Case question and OS transfer question

    Hello all in the forums here.
    My first question is this- I have an HP H8-1520T and noticed on the back next to the main system fan there are what look like metal shields that you can take out. I was wondering if this is what they truly are, and if so what the purpose would be. I noticed it was located close to the pump fan pins on the motherboard, so I can only assume it would be to allow for a radiator if one wanted to water cool their system. If this is the case, what size and thickness radiator would fit, because I want to water cool my system but don't want to have to buy a new case if I dont have to.
    My second question is this- I recently bought a SanDisk Ultra II SSD for my boot drive. I was wondering how to transfer the OS from my 1TB Seagate Barracuda to the SSD. I have already tried two programs, Paragon's Migrate OS to SSD 4.0 and Seagate's DiscWizard software, both to no prevail. I was wondering how to transfer it.
    Thanks

    There are many SSD Migration Guides, provided by the SSD manufacturers as well as computer industry magazines.

  • Quick Case Question...the other case thread di

    I am looking into this silicon case:
    http://www.capdase.com/pic/product/538_s.JPG
    ^^^ decent included screen cover!
    My main question is: can a silicon (or leather!) case protect the Zen Micro from a fall? Is silicon in general a poor choice for a case? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Nothing can guarantee your player will survi've a fall.

  • Stupid Bonjour Question, Re: VPN

    okay, so i'm using a vpn, but i can still see and communicate with my bonjour buddies (and access network printers, for that matter). does being hooked up to a vpn only effect internet access? because when it's on, i can't see our exchange server - so i thought this meant i was "off the network." but if that's the case... why can i use bonjour?
    sorry for being stupid...

    If the the Exchange Server is an Apple Talk or more likely an SMB connection is it on the VPN ?
    Bonjour is zero configuration and will show on both networks if that is how you are set up.
