Stupid mail editing question

When I'm editing a message in gmail on my Mac (or in Apple Discussions, as I just discovered), I frequently want to go immediately to the end of a line or the beginning of a line. In Word, I can just hit the "home" or "end" keys, but this doesn't seem to work elsewhere. Am I missing something obvious?

  • PRE 7.0 Capture, Conforming & Editing Questions

    I have a new Canon Vixia HFS100 (AVCHD) and have just installed Premiere Elements 7.0.   I previously used a Standard Definition mini-tape camcorder and edited the videos with either Windows Movie Maker or Cyberlink Power Director.
    Capture Questions:  The AVCHD media import option does not require a fire wire / nor does it provide device control.  (I LIKE this feature since I purchased a camcorder with flash memory cards so that I could import the media through a card reader instead of having to hook up the camcorder.)  I realize now, however that I may also want to import a small segment from a longer scene.  Should the AVCHD capture feature have device control?  If not, can I also use the HDV camcorder capture function instead?   Does this require any adjustments to my project settings?
    Conforming Questions:  After I import the .mts files, PRE 7.0 automatically goes through a process that says it is 'conforming' the files.   What does 'conforming' mean?  Does this require any adjustments to my project settings?
    Editing Questions:   The .mts scenes cannot be played back without SEVERE stutter.   Audio is fine, but the scenes video looks like individual stills with 10-15 second delay until the next still picture.  Although I plan to upgrade from my 1 GB RAM laptop to a much higher powered laptop within the next month, I am despearate to edit and publish my first set of videos since they are sales videos of horses I am trying to sell.  Is there anything I can do to allow me to edit the .mts files with my current 1 GB RAM system?  I would be happy to drop to a lower quality video setting just to get this batch of videos edited and produced.

    There are several threads on AVCHD conversion. Unfortunately, I do not recall the conversion utilities recommended. Not shooting AVCHD, I have to admit that I am personally clueless to what programs work, and how well. Others can likely help you there.
    2. What configuration wish list can you recommend for either a Dell laptop or desktop?   I will be editing ~40 horse sale videos per month and posting them to YouTube or producing DVDs to mail to prospective buyers.
    I have just the ARTICLE for that "wishlist." Harm Millaard is the "Hardware Guru," on the PrPro forum. He gives a lot of great info. Now, it's pretty much geared for the "ultimate" NLE machine, but he does give the reasons, so one can "tone it down" to suit their budget and their needs.

    When opening a Cap 2 file that already has slides and
    quesions slides-- Selecting a particular question slide the "edit
    question" button below the timeline is "flashing" and cannot be
    selected. I think I have heard of this before with a
    workaround/fix. Please remind me!

    Okay, I found the problem. question slide was locked, and for
    some reason, this makes the "edit question" area flash on my
    system.

  • Mail edit drag n drop bug

    Drag and drop to edit text when composing  a message in Mail sometimes does a cut and paste, other times does a copy and paste.  The correct function is to always cut and paste.  This has been confirmed in notes posted by Dee Run and by James WIlson7, although those notes are now archived.  A response to Dee Run by Goldenshoes suggests careful clicking can provide a workaround.  However,  there should be no need for such finess: if drag n drop moves text, it should always perform a cut and paste.  The fact that it sometimes does a copy and paste is a bug. 
    This is a minor problem, but it is an irritating defect which I have observed through several versions of OSX: I don't remember how long, maybe back to 10.4 or earlier.  I suspect the fix will be fairly simple, such as insuring a bit is set properly before the edit is carried out.  I have reported the problem several times and keep hoping, but no fix yet. 
    It is important for the user experience that drag n drop always perform as advertised.  It seems more requests for a fix will be necessary to get this repaired.  It might be helpful if others confirm here their observation of this problem.   Please join me in bringing this to the attention of Apple through the feedback in Mail.

    I don't think I have a problem with my system, nor that I am doing something wrong.  I have seen this intermittently for years through many system upgrades.  I try to keep things in order by frequent scanning with Disk Utilities and occasional full rebuilds with Disk Warrior and cache cleaning with Onyx. 
    Goldenshoes suggested that doing the drag and drop more slowly would reliably lead to cut and paste.  I have not investigated this, but it suggests that perhaps if you did drag and drop more quickly you might see the copy and paste behavior.

    Strangely, now I cannot find the post from James Wilson7 even though I found it easily earlier today, and I can find many of his other posts:  James Wilson7's Stuff.  Perhaps the post I am looking for is not present because this is "James Wilson7's Latest Content" and the post I found earlier had been archived. 
    Well, now I have found the post by searching for "Mail drag drop".

    Looking at these other posts in more detail, I see that James Wilson 7 observed the problem in Mail/OS X 10.5.2, Dee Run observed it in 10.6, and in a reply the problem was confirmed running 10.6.1 by Michel Chaouli.

    (1) For what I got until now Single Edition do not allow clients to publish a store like a bookstall of magazines. Is that right?
    (2) That said, every app built and sent to App Store is "unique" and has no physical connection with other apps built and sent later. Right?

  • Why do I see things set differently in Advanced Actions (F9) than in each slide's Edit  Question settings?

    After spending 10+ hours of trying to figure out why my first two quiz slides did work, and my next eight didn't, I found the answer as an offhand, btw, comment. The expected action was On failure, Jump to Slide x, which would jump back to the beginning of that content "section." (Quiz slides (two per section) are interspersed with sections of content slides). I finally ran across the advice to "save yourself time" by using F9 to see Advanced Interactions (which is, what, a dialog? a view?).  Turns out this was not just a time-saver but the ONLY way (that I've found yet) to see and fix my problem.  In Advanced Interactions, I could immediately see that the first two slides were set as I thought, (Jump to Slide upon failure), but the rest were set to Continue upon failure.  This, EVEN THOUGH on every question slide, in Edit view/mode on the Edit Question > Options tab, it was set for Jump to Slide upon failure.  Why did it appear that way in Edit Question > Options, but not in Advanced Interactions?  I set them all correctly in the Advanced Interactions and now the jumping is working correctly (Now I have problems with questions not being reset, but I think I have seen the answers for that in my 10+ hours of reading forums and blogs.)

  • Mail report question

    Hi there,
    This may be a crazt question but I was curious if there was a way to get information from apple mail in report format.
    I would like to create report showing waht folder the email is in.
    My reason for doing this I seem tobe missing emails.  So instead of going in to each folder, I wondered if I could generate a report of some kind to do it.  Maybe an Applescript?  I do not know how to create scripts.
    Or is there a way to add an additonal header in MAIL that would show the folder the email is saved in?

    OK, so first some background:
    1) The basic process goes like this:
    a) one release doc (edited by the developer, presumably) and the
    template docs are copied to the build area
    b) Each doc is unzipped (ODT's are just ZIP files) into a subdir
    c) The doc contents are copied around; this is to allow Ant to
    replace its special @VAR@ variables in the document content
    d) The docs are zipped back up into ODTs
    e) The ODTs are converted into PDFs using OOo's macro functionality
    Here are the troubleshooting steps I would apply:
    1) Make sure the external.odt file exists - check the build area
    (//content/build/<pluginname>/tmp/) and can be opened using normal
    OpenOffice
    2) Check that the release.odt file exists (same location) and can be
    opened using normal OpenOffice
    3) See if you can manually convert the external.odt file into a PDF -
    the command we use is simply:
    soffice -invisible
    macro:///Standard.Collectors.External2PDF(${pkgdir}/tmp/external.odt)
    (replace ${pkgdir} with the build directory path).
    If all that works, then the Ant build process should work.
    Also - what does that OpenOffice error popup say?

  • Mac Mail Problem/Question

    I'm having trouble with opening links via e-mail in my Mail application. When I open an e-mail and try to click on a link my web browser pops up and nothing happens. I've tested this with Safari, Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Mozilla is my current browser and the one I use exclusively...unfortunately it is also the only one of the three that will not open links from my e-mail. When I switch to Safari/Chrome as my default browser the links open fine. My question, is there a way to change which browser Mail uses without changing my default browser? Or is there a way to get Firefox working with my Mail application? I would like to keep using Firefox but it is a pain in the behind to have to copy and paste the link every single time.

    Hi M, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    First, have you updated to the latest FF? If not, try that first.
    You may want to play around with prefs in Mail and/or FF, but off-hand I cannot think of what it would be.
    If that doesn't take care of it, try opening Safari, set FF as default browser and then do a PRAM Reset.
    And if still no luck, try Safe Boot.

  • New to Macbook (Apple ID, Login Info, Mail, iChat Questions)

    Hello. I just got a Macbook Pro and have always been a PC user. When I logged into the computer for the first time, it asks for my Apple ID and/or email that I used to purchase my Macbook. I have two Apple IDs (one created to develop for the iPhone). Does it matter which Apple ID I use?
    What else is this Apple ID used for on the Macbook and anything else in the future that might use it?
    I guess I am kind of confused because I have an email for my Apple ID account setup, but another email address I actually use day to day for other things. I didn't want things to conflict if that is an issue. How does Mail work on the Macbook? I mean I gave the Macbook my gmail account and it spent a long time downloading all these messages. But it didn't look like my gmail account when I login to gmail using the internet.
    For iChat, my gf has an old mac that has iChat and she thinks she signed up with an old AOL email account, but also has a gmail email address, but hasn't signed up for iChat using gmail on her old G4. I used my gmail account to sign up for iChat. How do I either (a) add her AOL email account to my buddy list so we can chat to each other using iChat, or (b) if she signs up for iChat using her gmail account that would essentially do the same thing?

    So I started playing with my MacBook more, and is there a way to have my mail like my iPhone in that I have say 5 email accounts, and I'd kind of just like all of them listed there so I can check whichever account has new mail. I thought it was a great feature on the iPhone that the PC doesn't have that's way better than manually logging into each individual email account.
    The other day, when trying to login into the discussions form, the Apple site asked me to create an alias (jwfc19), even though I logged into my account with my old apple id (my email address and this account, jwfc). Does anyone know what's going on there? I'm trying to consolidate some of my stuff and not have all these different accounts!
    I'm trying to compare iCal and Address Book to Google Calender and Google Contacts. I currently use the Google stuff since I can access them anywhere where this internet. I don't use anything more than that then putting down, "Doctor's appt, time, date, alarm, or a birthday or something like that" in Google Calender so I didn't know if there were huge benefits in the Mac versions of these software.
    Lastly, for now , I noticed in Safari, I logged into my Apple ID. However, when I try logging out, and inputting my other Apple ID, it automatically logs me back with my last Apple ID account. Is there a setting change for this? Thanks!

  • IMovie HD (6.0.3) - Export Quality and Editing Question

    Hi guys, i wanted to ask two questions. The first is that i wanted to export videos to upload onto YouTube and the best format for this seems to be the CD-ROM format that is available on the version i have, the only thing is my videos still appear low quality and pixellated even though i am editing good quality videos......i was wondering if i was doing anything wrong/or can do something better?
    Also, when i am editing, can i place logos or maybe pictures onto the video e.g. with TV channels they have a logo at the corner of the screen. I also wanted to black out text on screen but i don't seem to be able to do that.

    QuickTime has never supported anything more than "playback" of MPEG-1 formats and conversions to QuickTime formats will never include audio.

    iMovie 7 can import and convert most MPEG-2 formats (DVD and HD media) and include audio. It also uses QuickTime for the work.
    MPEG Streamclip does allow "batch" conversions. Do them while you sleep.

  • Mail adapter question

    I have a question regarding the mail adapter scenario.  Firstly data goes to ECC and some validations are performed and if there are any errors, ECC will provide me with some indicator saying this record has errors.
    Now, the same structures are used in the opposite direction and I have to count the number of error records based of that and send that info as an email. If I created a UDF to count the number of error records, how do I put that information in the email ?
    Is there anyway, I can capture that info in the mail adapter ?

    being from a Java background is that every method/function declaration is supposed to have the return type and I was told that behind the scenes Java is being run which is why I assumed that thats a return type.Again,  I am fairly new and I am in the process of learning things.

    the answer to similiar question was that it is not easily possible. May with reports 7.0.
    Question: Does "not easily" meean possible or not possible? If possible - HOW?
    And what about the other items: mail text and report name?

    If you work in Windows, maybe you should look on OLE automation. Just create you report files and then create message, attach report files and set mail parameters as you want to.

    I have a stupid question, since there is no more hub transport role in Exchange 2013 I'm trying to figure out which role sends and receives email. I am going to put the CAS Role on one server and the Mailbox Role on the other server and just need to know
    which server would be responsible for sending and receiving email.

    When you install a Mailbox server running the Transport service, two Receive connectors are created. No additional Receive connectors are needed for typical operation, and in most cases the default Receive connectors don't require a configuration change.

    Client Proxy <server name>   Accepts connections from front-end servers. Typically, messages are sent to a front-end server over SMTP.
