Stupid problem - layer duration

Hi! Just started using After Effects, and I'm having a stupid problem. Can't find any support for this problem anywhere on the web.
I made a new composition, then imported a Photoshop file with multiple layers into my project. The composition is set to ten seconds of duration. Whether I drag the individual layers from the Photoshop composition into the new composition or I try and edit the original composition itself, the layers will not extend in duration beyond two frames.
My cursor moves over the edge of the layer, I click and drag the edge, and nothing happens - unless I am moving the layer within its two frame duration.
The layers are individually called "Photoshop Sequences" in the project window. On the timeline, they appear with two small arrows in the upper right and left corners, like this:
What am I doing wrong? How can I extend layer duration?

You have most likely imported the Photoshop file with Photoshop sequence checked. Uncheck and you'll be fine.

Thanks, Deggie. I thought Apple would see my feedback. I would just like to know if there is a simple way to copy just a few music files from an old iPod. I saw instructions on how to copy all of them from the iPod but it was complicated and I really didn't want to copy all the songs. I guess I could delete all the songs but the ones I want to copy then go through that process again. Do you know how to back up music to my computer? I don't want to have to go through this again and possibly lose music.

Preferences, Project, can't change project duration or default layer duration

Having trouble changing the project duration or default layer duration in Preferences. I change them and restart Motion and nothing is changed.
Probably overlooking something. Help

There are a couple of ways to lengthen (or shorten) a project once you've started the project.
1) Select the Project "layer" at the top of the Layers list, then in the Inspector, select the Properties pane and look down for Duration. You can type in the value needed for the length of project. You have the option of using Timecode, Frames, or Seconds.
2) Set the Canvas "clock" (/playhead position) to the Project length. To do that, click on the clock icon and the "time" should look like 12:15. Click and drag up (or down) on the time value to lengthen or shorten the project.
When you start Motion and are presented with a Project picker, in the upper right corner of the dialog, you can set the length required (Duration) for your project(s). Once you start that project with that time length, Motion will remember and all subsequent projects will be created with that time length until you change it at that location again. I actually haven't set the default project duration in preferences in quite a long time. However, if Motion is not remembering the project length setting, you might need to Quit Motion, then hold down the Command and Option keys and restart Motion (that should delete preferences and reset Motion to its defaults).

Indesign CS5.5 Problem layer with video with ipad and share video in a swf file on web

Hi Everyone,
I have two problems:
I'm just working on my portfolio
- I've a page with 3 layers (Cover, Video, base) I'd like that the "cover" layer hide part of the video when it's playing. With a preview as SWF file it's working fine but when i try the preview for ipad or upload on a device when the video start it stay on the top.
So doesn't "respect" the layer order. Why? how is that possible?
- I created and exported my portfolio as .SWF with also html file. In this portfolio there are 2 Video File (.mov .m4v) when i try the preview in local they work fine, but when i upload the portfolio with the resourse files and all other file created, i share it and all the aniamtion works fine exept the video. They doesn't show up. Why?
I mean all the folder ar shared, i don't want everytime download the folder in my desktop to watch also that video.
How can i do that?
I just want to share a portfolio with inside video.

That might or might not work. Let's try closing ID again, log in withthe old user, then delet the files, if they exist, inthe list you'll find at Adobe Forums: InDesign crashes at startup
Your user library is hidden in 10.8, so if yo don't kow how to show those files, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion
Now restart ID using the Keyboard shortcut to remove the prefs (hold down Cmd + Control + Shift + Opt keys as soon as you launch ID and choose Yes when asked if you want to replace the prefs. If you don't see the confirmation message, you weren't fast enough, so you need to try again).

Problems setting duration for still photos and transitions in iMovie '11

I downloaded iMovie 11 from the Apps Store last night and am trying to make my first movie with it today. I use still photos exclusively.
For most - but not all - I like 5 seconds for photos and for transitions 2 seconds. I do vary this on occasion and so do not check "for all photos' or "for all transitions".
I can't get these settings to work with this version of iMovie. For example, I added a photo (5 sec) then a transition (2 sec) which changed the duration time of the photo - as it should. But when I double clicked the photo, to bring up the inspector window to change the duration of the photo, nothing happened. Then I added another photo. The duration of the first photo increased to 7 seconds and nothing I do seemed to change that.
The time increases seem random: for example, sometimes the time on the still photo increases to 6:29 sec, sometimes to 7 sec.
The duration for the transitions always remains the same - 2 sec; it's the time for the photos that jumps around. And I haven't been able to find a way to get back to 5 sec.
Before posting this, I researched and found an number of earlier posts detailing the same issues.
However, none of these posts had stars to indicate the problem was solved.
Has anyone found a solution or is this a bug that should be reported to Apple?

I've spent a lot of hours on this too, but I have come up with a different solution perhaps because I like to vary both the image duration and the transition duration in my movies.
Here's my process:
-> Knowing that (a) I want most of the photos to be visible for 5 seconds and most transitions for 2 seconds and (b) that a transition takes half from the photo before and half from the photo after, under File>Project Properties>Photo Duration I chose 7 seconds - each photo will 'lose' a total of 2 seconds from the transitions in front and behind. I did not check either "Applies to all transitions." or "Applies to all photos." - See below for why.
-> I discovered, as you have, that all the photos have to go in before I add any transitions. This was new to me. With all previous versions of iMovie I simply added a photo then a transition then another photo one at a time. I had to fiddle with the timing adjustments, but at least I could fiddle. With this new version of iMovie I can't. Once the transition is in place, I cannot change the duration of the photo.
-> Sometimes, I want a longer or shorter duration for a photo. For example, on photos to which I apply the Ken Burns effect, I often want the image on the screen for a slightly longer time. In this case, I have to use the inspector to change the duration before I add the transitions. So I might set the time for 8 seconds; when both transitions are added, the time for this photo becomes 6 seconds, which is what I want.
-> The same applies if I want a transition to be shorter or longer than 2 seconds. If, for example, I want the duration for a transition to be 1 second, then I have to change the duration on the two linked photos to 5 1/2 seconds.
All of this requires much more prior planning than I am used to with iMovie. Right now, I working with batches of 5 or 6 photos at a time. I don't put a transition on the last photo in the batch until I have added the next group of photos. And things get really tricky if I don't like my original design. If I want to change anything, I have to take out all of the transitions linking the photos I want to work on, do the math, make the changes in the photo durations, then put the transitions back.
Perhaps I am trying to make iMovie do more than it was intended to do, I don't know. Perhaps this problem stems from the fact that I bought just iMovie 11 from the Mac Apps Store and not the entire iLife 11. Don't know that either. But at least I have found a way to make the movie look the way I want it to look.

BRI problems / layer 1 deactivated

Hi there
I could really use some help for this issue. I need to implement a BRI line for voice as backup for a SIP line.
However I cannot make layer 1 come up as active. I know for sure the line is working as attaching a phone to the ISDN2 line makes me able to receive and make calls. So the line is ok from teleprovider side. Must be cable issue, makes a cable according to Cisco doc. "When the ISDN BRI port on the router is configured as an NT port, you must use a "rolled" cable (one with the transmit and receive leads swapped) to connect to a TE interface." But this does not help me still same outcome.
Any help is much appriciated.

I had this problem a few months ago and it took several days of investigation and research to figure it out but I got there in the end. Hopefully this will save someone else a lot of frustration!
In short it was mainly sorted by adding the bearer-cap Speech command to my extra voice-ports.
This command specifies whether the 'call' will initialize for voice or data during the setup and can cause the line to drop/disconnect if it is set incorrectly.
FULL DETAILS
My client was using a UC540W-BRI-K9 with 2 phone lines coming in over a single ISDN device connected to a voice-port. They had purchased a plug-in 2-port voice-board to allow them to utilize another 4 phone lines via an extra 2 ISDN devices, however the company who installed this had failed to configure the system properly so even after I activated the extra lines they would always fail to dial-out as above.
The first step was to tell the plug-in voice-board to use the network-clock and set the ISDN-connected BRIs to use the network-clock:

I spent time investigating the BRI configuration, adding a few bits which I think helped activate the lines, although I still had the outgoing call failures on the new lines:

The problem was fixed once I applied the bearer-cap Speech command to the extra voice-ports, along with compand-type a-law (for a European system).

PS animation: layer duration

Hi,
Quick question about PS animation:
When I increase the duration of the animation, I have to go through and adjust the duration of each layer individually to the fit the new timeline.
As far as I can tell, there is no option to adjust the duration of multiple layers at once, like in AE. This is a huge timesink, especially when working
with a ton of layers.
Am I missing something and the option is just hidden away somewhere? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Is this a frame animation? Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) + click on each frame, then change the duration. (Use Shift + click to select a whole range of frames that don't have breaks.)

Problem Regarding Duration of Test(Elapsed timer)

I am doing positive negative pressure cycle test in which positive negative cycle going on continously & shown on graph.
I have to show duration of test as cycle starts in HH/MM/SS format continously as test is going on upto a fixed no. of cycles.
I have taken elapsed time express vi in my main loop for showing this. As in my program there are various loops one inside another in main loop.
So my problem is this timer is not showing elapsed time in continous updating mode but it shows elapsed time when i press exit button. I know why it is not showing because it is going into another loop in my main loop.
Can anybody suggest me how to show my duration of test in continous updating mode?

Once initiallized with a refnum to the GUI's elapsed time indicator, this Resouce Module can be called from anywhere or everywhere in the application to update the GUI.

Help! Stupid problem with user accounts!

I got a very old, very cheap laptop (original ibook clamshell). The Short Name referred to one of the previous owners. I had a vague idea of changing it, but realised this might be difficult. I haven't really got a rescue CD at present; the OS must have gone through several OS versions on the way, and it won't run Tiger which is what I have on my desktop.
The OS is up to late Panther. I haven't had any problems with it. Having some time on my hands, I picked up an O'Reilly book on 'Panther hacks', and went through the 'Change Short Name' routine with netinfo. Before doing this, I made sure there werent any document files on the machine I'd be bothered about losing. It has less than 1Gb hard drive space, so I've never regarded it as a machine to keep things on.
Went through the process of doing this, and moving the home directory, without problems.
Logged out. Discovered that there were two users with my name because I'd also created another user with my name but realised that the main account with the Short Name will run the machine. Logged in, and deleted one of them into Deleted Users.
This took a suspiciously long time; I suspect I deleted the main user by mistake. Yes, I realise this was a Bad Thing.
Suddenly, instead of having two administrator accounts with my name, I have one standard account with my name. (Yes, both accounts were administrator accounts before I deleted the wrong one by accident...)
I haven't particularly lost data, because any data created on Methuselap the Ancient of Days's minuscule hard drive gets networked straight over to my main desktop, and I don't have a login password set (again, anything that needs to be secure can go on a flash drive or the desktop), I'm annoyed (mostly at my own stupidity) that I am now no longer able to fix my privileges to set myself up as admin.
Has anybody got any particular bright ideas for what to do next?

STUPID Problem! Of course that email's taken.. by MY Apple ID! {Please help!}

A lot of people are having similar issues...
There has to be SOME kind of solve for this,
or have Apple's servers really gone that dumb..??
I made an Apple ID in 2007, last year, I linked that ID to an email address
upon Apple's request--a gmail account.
It's the one I'm using right now: quiet_dime
Updating to iOS5 on my iPad asks me to enter my Apple ID (login name)
and password. No problem; it's already in.
Then it asks for my Apple ID.
(Wait... Didn't I already..? Oh well..)
This is an email address, so I enter my email associated with MY APPLE ID...
Nope!
"Try Another Apple ID
This Apple ID is already being used."
Well, OF COURSE it is! By MY APPLE ID!!!!!!!!!
What the H3LL is going on???
It tells me if this is my account to reset the password (which I don't
understand how that would help anyway, because it's not asking for

(EDIT: Oh, and btw, I'm not keen on creating a brand new email I have to

I think I've found (part of) the problem..
When you start to set up with your Apple ID, the device will
automatically put in your iTunes username (like it did before...).
The problem is that the Apple ID form is asking for your email address.
This is why it asks you to enter in an email address (which won't work)
on the next screen.
If you erase the iTunes username that is filled in you'll see that it's asking
for "[email protected]" NOT your username.
I'm wondering WHY the device is setup to remember your username when
it's asking for an email. If it hadn't done this, then a lot of confusion
could have been avoided!
So I ended up reseting my password on my iTunes (Apple) ID, and to match them
up, just reset the password on my Apple ID..
I've reset the password to the same email address for Apple twice to the same
password. (???)
AND NOW MY iCLOUD WON'T VERIFY!!!!

Pretty stupid problem while installing XP on a macbook

First thing, please excuse me if there're mistakes in this message, I'm not a native english speaker.
Anyway, I've got a little problem.
I'm trying to install XP on my macbook. I already did it before, but my hard drive crashed -while my external backup drive crashed 1 day before so I lost everything. Since it was under warranty, I sent it to an apple technician to change the hard drive. When I got it back, Leopard was installed instead of the Tiger version I had before. Well, it was pretty neat, but it gives me a problem right know since I want to intall XP : I don't have the Leopard installation disc.
When using bootcoamp on Tiger, the software made me burn a CD with plugins for keyboards and co. But on Leopard, those plugins are in the installation CD.
So, when I use boot camp, it makes a windows partition on my disc, reboots, installs everything, reboots, and...fails. I can't remember what's the exact error text, but it's like "can't read the disc" every time I want to boot on the windows partition. I don't know if it's because I don't have the plugin CD, but even though it would not be the case, I would still have a problem after windows boot, because I would need this plugins.
So, 2 questions, aside from "has anyone here already got this problem ?" :
1) What's causing the error when windows tries to boot ?
2) How could I get those plugins which are in the Leopard CD ? Going back on Tiger wouldn't help that much since bootcamp isn't available anymore for Tiger, and also because I don't really want to.
By the way, my version of XP works since it wwas the very same I used with Tiger before my hard drive crashed.

1.) You used to have Tiger + Boot Camp XP working fine.
2.) HD crash.
3.) Now you have Leopard + no Leopard Disk.
4.) XP is installed via Leopard Boot Camp but fails to boot.
5.) You have no Leopard disk and therefore no Boot Camp drivers.
It is very difficult to know WHY XP will not boot. You might try a re-install. Maybe choose FAT over NTFS or the other way around just to see.
If you still have the Tiger Boot Camp drivers cd then install those. They will work good enough and you can then upgrade to the latest manual Boot Camp drivers download:

Help-simple-stupid-problem

I am having jswdk1.0.1 . My servlets are working.
Now I want to run my JSP code. My JSP code contains "Hello World" in a loop .The for loop is in a JSP tag. Whatever may be the value of loop(0) , browser shows Hello World only once. In short JSP is not working.
The problem maybe in classpath variable.( I have Win98, Apache is not working on my m/c)
Please tell me where & how to write it.

Does the JSP code get printed to the screen? or is it in the page source after you've opened the page? If so, then your page isn't getting served properly by the JSP engine - its probably oin the wrong place. What's the URL you use to accesss the page? and what directory is it in?

Stupid problem wont go away

Ok, It's like the third time I post about the same problem, my iPod's screen is broken on the inside. One day I turned it on, and half of the screen was blank, the biggest problem is that I'm from Uruguay, so I think there's only one apple store on the whole country, if there is one...
Anyway, I spend about a week, looking for solutions on the internet, and nothing worked...then I finnally found this forum, and I got a uruguaian web site, I send an e-mail telling them my problem and I still havn't got my answer...these was 2 weeks ago...

My problem is whenever I open the file in which it was 'created' or 'appended' to. It's in telnet btw. the fields are so messy, I got 0000 first then my custoemr number, then after a few spaces I see the name and after about 10 spaces the search term and all that. Everything's one big pile of mess. Is there something wrong witht he way I transfer data to the file? And what's with that 0000 at the start of the file?

I do not know what you mean by 'big pile of mess'. Count the characters and see what deviations you get. I suppose it works as desired.
