Stupid question: Adjusting brightness with integrated GPU on nforce2

The monitor I use is very dark, and unfortunately, the drivers that I downloaded for the integrated GeForce4 MX don't have any way to increase the brightness or gamma that I know of (admittedly I don't know much about this).
The tnt2 ultra I used prior to this system had a slider right in the advanced graphics option in display properties. When I go to the GeForce4 MX panel of the advanced display options, I do see a slider for brightness in the video overlay submenu, but those don't work.
My question is, is there a way to increase the gamma/brightness? I already have my monitor turned up all the way on brightness. It's so dark on this system that some games are unplayable.

I install the gforce driver from nvidia's website. Their everything driver(its like Via's 4in1) includes the integrated gpu driver. It does contain controls that work for gamma etc. Go to display properties, advanced, gforce4 mx integrated gpu. A submenu should pop out to the left- if not press additional properties, or if you see a little green arrow pointing left press it. Click on nview display mode. Click on device settings, and then color correction. There you are! They don't make it easy. Sorry if this is not to clear. Sometime not so good my english :P

  • How to Force mac Thunderbolt External Display with Integrated GPU for Macbook Pro 2012?

I have been getting GPU Panic whenever I use external Thunderbolt Display.
Not sure whether this is software after(Mavericks) or hardware, if anybody could shed some light I would appreciate it.
The Current Discrete GPU will only work for few seconds 10 sec max before it became blank and require you to force shutdown. This also happened even without external display Blank and GPU Panic upon restart. So I suspected either the discrete GPU failure or software in Mavericks.
But at the moment I'm looking for workaround so I can use the intel intergrated GPU to use my Mac Thunderbolt External Display.
Thank you in advance for any input.

  • Adjusting brightness with two 24" LED Cinema Displays

I'm wondering if there are any other Mac Pro users out there with two 24" LED Cinema Displays? If so, are you able to adjust the brightness of both displays? For me, no matter which brightness slider I adjust in System Preferences, only the brightness of one of the displays is adjusted.
I originally created a thread last September:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2160532
If you have this problem too, please report it to <http://bugreporter.apple.com/>. My original Radar bug was #7222745, and it was found to be a duplicate of #6828443. Based on the IDs, I'd say this has been a known issue for at least a year.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

I filed a bug report at bugreporter.apple.com, and received a pretty quick reply:
This is a follow up to Bug ID# 7222745. After further investigation it has been determined that this is a known issue, which is currently being investigated by engineering. This issue has been filed in our bug database under the original Bug ID# 6828443. The original bug number being used to track this duplicate issue can be found in the State column, in this format: Duplicate/OrigBug#.
Looks like I'm S.O.L. until they fix this!

  • How do I turn off "Automatically adjust brightness" on Mountain Lion using AppleScript

I'm new to Mac, Applescript and Automator and I'm trying to make a automation for when I perform on stage and found a script to set the brightness all the way up but can't find a script to disable "Automatically adjust brightness". Any help would be appreicated.

You could even both “set the brightness all the way up” and “disable Automatically adjust brightness” with just one and the same script:
    tell application "System Preferences"
        -- launch
        -- activate
set current pane to pane id "com.apple.preference.displays"
reveal anchor "displaysDisplayTab" of current pane
        tell application "System Events"
            tell process "System Preferences"
tell group 1 of tab group 1 of window 1
set value of slider 1 to 1.0 -- max
                    tell checkbox 1
if value is 1 then click
                    end tell
                end tell
            end tell
        end tell
        quit -- optional
    end tell

  • Can not adjust brightness and minimize and maximize the screen with Fn keys

I have bought a HP 15-D006TU laptop 1 week back. f2 and f3 for adjusting brightness and f4 to minimize and maximize the screen are not working. I am also trying to install the Hotkey driver which is mostly suggested here. but the version available is not supported. Can anyone help me out in this case?

    Hi NIdisha,
Thank you for your post, I will do my best to assist you.
I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the brightness and the  fn keys. When I looked up the specifications, I see it came with FreeDos. I am providing you  links, to the software and driver page for your computer,HP 15-d006tu Notebook PC Drivers  and Frequently Asked Questions About FreeDOS (FAQs).  Please note the compatible keyboard driver. I would suggest you uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the keyboard. I am also providing you a document on Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8), that may assist you.  If you would like furhter assistance, please let me know if you are still running  FreeDos, or have changed the operating system.
     I hope this has helped.

  • This is probably a stupid question, but what does the red circle with a number in it mean on iCal? It looks just like the emails notification. I do not have anything do or up in my cal.

Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.
Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

  • T60. Will it run autocad 2009 with 3D Grahpics? Integrated GPU???? How do I find it?

(Well, I thought the proplem was solved) I have a T60. I'm ready and willing to upgrade, but in any case, how do I verify "discrete or switchable graphics"?
The last advise I got from the board was the following:
"Any ThinkPad with discrete or switchable graphics will work...T400/500, R400/500, W500/700...make sure that you're not getting the one with Intel integrated GPU and you'll be all set...
FWIW, even T61/p with discrete GPU will run  this with no sweat..."
    Thanks.
    --robert (RAB)

    ok then,
do you know if there is an alternative way, such as underclocking permanently the GPU, just as I did with the CPU?
at least it would stabilize the temperatures around 80.. or sth

  • Newbie to Mac, with a Stupid Question

Ok, I just bought and received my first Mac, a MacBook, two days ago (Windows Vista Victim). So far, it's going ok, but I'm still on the learning curve.
Here's my stupid question: What is the function of the four keys on the lower left corner (first row) of the keyboard? The first one says "fn", then "ctrl", then "alt/option", and then the Apple logo with another symbol. I'm sure I would get around to finding out, but a kickstart from you guys would be nice.
    Thanks in advance!
    Dirk in Florida
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    thats used for various reasons,
fn= on windows side fn + the volume button makes ur sound go up, down or off
ctrl=is used for editing purposes for windows platform, for example, ctrl + c = copy
Alt\options= its usually used for switching platforms on start up for example, what your computer is starting up hold options and it will ask u what to start up on
The apple button= on macintosh platform it allows you to do various short cuts (like the ctrl button on windows) for example, apple button + q = quit
Ok? if u have any other questions just ask

  • Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness with Fn Keys on New L540 (8.1 x64)

Hello everyone. I just purchased a new L540 with Windows 8.1 x64 on it and have run into a problem I'm seeing is apparently common. While my other Fn keys work as intended, I cannot adjust screen brightness with them. Pressing the buttons just does nothing and the laptop is running at full brightness at all times, even when on the battery. I have installed the latest Power Management Driver and from what I can tell, there is no version of the Power Management Software for anything newer than Windows 7. I also have installed the latest Hotkey driver (in fact, I've installed all the latest drivers for this machine.) I read in another thread that this can be caused by the latest HD Graphics driver from Intel but I actually can't even install that driver (says my system is not supported) so I am still using the latest Lenovo provided driver.
Can anyone please assist with this? I want to be able to quickly adjust screen brightness when on battery but I can't do that at present. Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have the same problem with my L540. It started with the update of the BIOS to version 1.65. Because I didn't find a solution, I went back to BIOS version 1.64, where all the brightness options are there and work properly.
You can download older versions. When on the page with the new drivers (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037285) go to BIOS Driver 1.65, then choose "learn more". At the end of the following page you'll see all the older versions.
That you can install version 1.64, you have to change the "Secure RollBack Prevention" Option in the BIOS: Restart the Computer. When you see the option "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter", press Enter. Press once again Enter. Press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. Choose "Security" -> then "UEFI Bios Update Option" -> then "Secure RollBack Prevention". Change this option to "Disabled". Then press F10 to save configuration changes and exit.
After restarting Windows you can install BIOS 1.64.
Another possibility is to wait for the next BIOS version ....

  • Confused Between Buying 15" rMBP with Dedicated GPU or Integrated ?

    Hi Guys,
I am planning to buy my first ever Retina Macbook Pro 15 Inch.  And I need some suggestions, It is my first ever Mac Book in my life so I am pretty excited and anxious about it. But I am in a dilemma should I go for the Dedicated Graphic Card Model or Should I go for the Integrated Graphic Model. No, It is not for the Extra Storage Space on the SSD that I am contemplating to buy the Dedicated Graphic Card Model but more for the Dedicated Graphic Card.
I am gonna be using this for my Personal Use Heavy Web Surfing, Lots of Flash Video watching, Movies, Music, Occasional Gaming (I am not a Gaming Freak) But I do occasionally like to play some most talked about, popular game so I don’t want my machine to restrain me for any reason. So this is my Requirement.
Now I have heard stories about the Dedicated GPU Model which is not good as in firstly I will tell you what my experience is I used to have a Sony Vaio till sometime back with a NVIDIA Dedicated 128 MB Graphic Card, after using it well for 5 and half years one fine day it failed, and subsequently it also corrupted the Display and wont let the OS Boot up. When I took it to the service guys they said, this is a very common phenomenon that we are coming across with Machine which Have NVIDIA Graphic Cards, apparently they seem to be running some problems NVIDIA doesn’t seem to making it well in terms of longevity. Steer Clear from Machines which use it. So what even if it is the Famous Macbook.
If I am spending this amount of money I am atleast looking for the MAC to be going for till about atleast 6-7 Years. And there is where my apprehension comes in the words of my service guys that Please stay away from NVIDIA Enabled Machine if you can.
I have heard some guys tell me that well, even though modern GPUs run much cooler than before. It's just that there's been a lot of failures with dedicated GPUs in the past and there have been seldom a failure with integrated graphics. If you want your machine to last a long time,  We would recommend the Iris Pro one over the 750M one. You don't need to spend the extra on the 750M model. It's not going to benefit you. For most things, the Iris Pro performs the same as the 750M.
As far as gaming is concerned, one can play any game the 750M can, but may have to lower a couple of settings for some of them. If the DGPU failed, it would do exactly what happened with the Vaio. No reason really to assume that's going to happen but it is very much possible with a DGPU Model. The Iris Pro model is far less likely to fail in that way.
Before Iris Pro, One would have been against Intel graphics as they were too slow. Iris Pro is the first Intel graphics chip to hold up against dedicated GPUs.
It's important to remember that some of the NVidia GPUs from 2008 were defective, mostly the 8600M but some 9600M too. If you have a Retina Macbook Pro with a dedicated GPU, that's more likely to be problematic than Intel's integrated graphics. There have been hardly any issues with integrated graphics chips dying
Dedicated GPUs tend to be more powerful but they've always been less reliable. That's not to say they all fail, they just happen to have a higher rate of failure.
    8600M, 9600M, 6970M, 6750M, 6490M, X1900XT, X1600, I think some old 7500 or 9200 too, all had issues.
I've never heard of an integrated graphics failure.
In the near future, Integrated graphics would be a better option for most people. Iris Pro is very close to the 650M/750M.
These are the comments that I have heard so far about the DGPU model Peter ? What do you guys think ? what would you guys advise me ?
    Thanks !

Graphically intensive applications such as games. Some applications will turn it on just to improve graphic performance such as iPhoto. Having a dedicated card will have a higher resale value just because it has more hardware and better specs because of the additional card.

  • Can't slice gradient with adjusted bright/contrast filter

I was playing around with gradients, and finally came up with something I wanted to try on my site. I'm taking a shade of yellow (#CC9933), then adjusting the colors with a brightness/contrast filter (brightness -81, contrast -8). But when I try to export a slice of the image, or just copy it to another Fireworks file for export, I am getting the original, bright yellow gradient, not the darker gradient with the adjusted brightness/contrast settings. What am I doing wrong?
I've attached a copy of the image I'm working with. It shows both the image with the adjusted colored gradient I want, and (to the right) how the slices are looking like.
Thanks much to anyone who can help

Thank you, Jim. I don't know what I was doing last night. Everytime I tried to export or copy from
the darker image, I'd get the lighter one in Dreamweaver. I just tried it after reading your posting, and it works fine now. I think the lesson for me is, don't work at 3:30 am.
Can you recommend which format (jpeg or png24) I should export as? The darker image, that is. I don't want the lighter one.
    Thanks again.

  • Probably stupid question - Windows background in black

This is probably a stupid question for longtime Mac users... I'm trying to adjust to this OS... I recently 'upgraded' to a MacBookPro from a PC, and have been very happy with my decision so far. However, when using windows I ran themes that displayed windows backgrounds in black with a lighter font for text, which is my preference. How do I do this with Leopard? I couldn't find any options or info on Apple site using Search.

Well, I use Arial for just about everything. You can set that in Safari/Prefrences, or, if say you are using Text Edit, you can press Command + T and that will prompt the Mac FontBook and you can view all the fonts available and just go through them until you see one that best fits your needs.
    Since you are new to Mac there is something to be aware of. Do not change any "system fonts" as it can cause utter mayhem. There's an alert box you can set up to avoid any mishaps;
*If you change fonts used by Mac OS X
If you try to change or remove fonts used to display onscreen text on your computer, an alert message will appear. You should not change system fonts unless you’re experienced with fonts and know how the change will affect your system.
You can turn off system font alerts in Font Book preferences.
To turn off system font alerts:
Open Font Book and choose Font Book > Preferences.
Deselect the checkbox labeled “Alert me if system fonts change.”

  • Adjust brightness (too high)

    Hello there!
I am big fan of Nokia since 2008, all the family uses it's smartphones (n82 > n78 > n8) and I haven't any troubles with the screen till last update of nokia n8 (belle), the brightness just to high to me. For example, on android 7 inch tablet with IPS display I can adjust brightness to the lowest point (it's about 4-7 kd/m2) so it would be look like backlight off at all, great for me.
Now for the question: as I presume, on Nokia lumia 920 the lowest point of screen brightness is "low" (which is about 60 kd/m2), is there any options to make it lower? Like 14 kd/m2? Or it's just impossible for Nokia's amoled screens?

  • How to precisely adjust brightness under Lion

    Hi,
working with a Mid 2010 IMac and the Apple Wireless Keyboard it is obvious that brightness may be controlled by pressing both the "fn" key and the respective keys F1 or F2.
Under Snow Leopard I created a list of useful shortcuts to get familiar with the various extra functions. One of them was to press ALT + Shift + fn+F1/F2 to be able to adjust brightness in finer steps than with the a.m. regular tune. The background of my question is the adjustment of brightness in context with a monitor calibration using a colorimeter.
This ALT+Shift method doesn't seem to work since I upgraded to Lion (10.7.3). Any ideas or proposals are appreciated.

Right. Attempting to install or boot a version of OS X earlier than the one installed on the Mac when it was built is likely to fail: Don't install a version of Mac OS X earlier than what came with your Mac
The reason is that new Mac hardware requires new drivers that may not exist on previous versions of OS X.
If it shipped with Lion it might be able to boot Snow Leopard, since there was a period of time in 2011 in which computers produced with Snow Leopard were later shipped with Lion, while the hardware remained unchanged. This will work only if you did not update the Mac's firmware though.
