Stupid question: Buddy list wireless/rss symbol

I have tried to find the answer to this everywhere in iChat help and this discussion board, but I can't get an answer.
In iChat's buddy list, next to some buddies, there is a little wireless/rss radio symbol. What does that mean?

They are on a Mobile or Cell phone with AIM Express using a Web browser or AIM Mobile installed (more than likely the latter)
iChat can be set up to forward to a Mobile in iChat 4 in the accounts section of the Preferences.

  • Stupid questions on the ipod mini.....

I have an old ipod mini from 6 years ago.  I haven't used it since I got it.  Since I'm going to work out, I wanted to take it and listen while I'm exercising....
    Stupid question number one
    1. Can you hear music without using earphones?  Or do you have to use a docking system????  Is everything with head/earphones?
    2. The earphones that came with it, fall out of my ears..... what gives?  Can anyone make a suggestion about headphones that you don't have to stick in the ear canal... but aren't cumbersome????  I need some suggestions, else the whole ipod experience is a waste
    3.  am I stupid for staying with a vintage ipod mini, instead of getting an ipod touch or traditional ipod that's newer?  Are they easier to use?
All I really do is make playlists on itunes, and maybe a short download of a radio show or something like that.....  What's the advantages of Ipod touch vs traditional Ipods?

    1.  No.  You can hook it up to a docking station or use headphones/earbuds.
    2.  Everybody's ears are shaped different and so a one size doesn't fit all.   I don't have any particular suggestions though.  I would look on Amazon's site for an extensive list of possibilities.
    3.  Not at all.  If it still works, why quit using it or buy a new one?  Wouldn't make any sense!  The advantage of the iPod Touch is that it has much more capability compared to other models in that it can download and play Apps as well as a number of other things.

  • How to maintain buddy list of a user

    Hi all,
    Questions about accessing XDMS.
Our service uses rls-services and resource-lists to maintain buddy list of a user. After reading Admin Guide of OCMS, I found that OCMS doesn't support rls-services. Is there another way to consider? How can Oracle Communicator maintains buddy list of a user?
    Thanks,

You can check this FM too -
    HRCM_COMP_ORGUNIT_EMPL_GET
To obtain the org unit text you have to get it either from HRP1000 or T527X, depends on your choice.
As an alternative you can do select also,
Select Perner from PA0105 where subty = '0001'
                                            and usrid = sy-uname.
select Orgeh from PA0001 where pernr = pa0105-pernr.
select Orgtx from T527X where orgeh = pa0001-orgeh.

  • Stupid Question? - Safari History

For some reason the dates in my Safari history are incorrect. i.e. Today is Sunday, June 1st, but when I go to access History from the toolbar, it lists yesterday as Friday, May 30....so dates in History are off by one day. However, my system time & date is set correctly.
Probably a stupid question, but any idea how I can fix this?
    Thanks

I can't find the word "yesterday" on my History menu. Where do you see that?
For me it shows "Earlier Today" then it starts showing the dates underneath that.
Of course, I didn't use Safari yesterday, so that might be why.

  • Possible Stupid Question on Aliases

We're on iMS/SunONE 5.2. What I've yet to figure out is how to do something so simple that I may be overlooking the obvious solution. This is to duplicate what /etc/aliases does in sendmail. I.E take an email address which does not match a particular existing user and deliver that message to the specifed recipient. There are two aspects of this which I need to address.
    1) Delivery of inbound mail if account is local. For example... [email protected] to [email protected] I think I understand this as I just need to add an alternate address for bob.jones into the ldap. Not centralized but the concept makes sese.
    2) Forwarding of inbound mail to other mail servers. For example [email protected] to [email protected].edu where our.listserv.edu is handled by a seperate mail server. In this case the /etc/aliases file sendmail uses makes this dirt simple. Unfortunately i've poured through the iMS docs and have yet to find how to do this. It may have to do with terminology as I'm not sure what iMS calls this type of proceedure. We have many of these (hundreds) and not having a centralized way of handling these would be very very difficult. What is the solution here?
    Thanks,
    -Patrick

Not a stupid question at all, I fought with the same concept coming from sendmail. The concept is that it's simple to redirect mail using the aliases file (/etc/mail/aliases) and it only took one line to do it.
Under iMS you need to expand your mind and accept that ldap is <insert deity> and everything is done differently.
Alias entries need to be adapted to one of -
    individual accounts (mailalternateaddress)
    or
a new ldap entry with it's forward settings going to your other addresses.
    or
a mail list, for local one to many distributions.
This applies to direct ldap and dirsync mode, however if you're running in dirsync mode, ensure you run the dirsync after making changes.
Finally, if you create an aliases file in -
    <msg-home>/config/aliases
and you are thorough on the addresses, they still work.
Just my experience, search for "aliases" in the forum.

  • Newbie to Mac, with a Stupid Question

Ok, I just bought and received my first Mac, a MacBook, two days ago (Windows Vista Victim). So far, it's going ok, but I'm still on the learning curve.
Here's my stupid question: What is the function of the four keys on the lower left corner (first row) of the keyboard? The first one says "fn", then "ctrl", then "alt/option", and then the Apple logo with another symbol. I'm sure I would get around to finding out, but a kickstart from you guys would be nice.
    Thanks in advance!
    Dirk in Florida
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    thats used for various reasons,
fn= on windows side fn + the volume button makes ur sound go up, down or off
ctrl=is used for editing purposes for windows platform, for example, ctrl + c = copy
Alt\options= its usually used for switching platforms on start up for example, what your computer is starting up hold options and it will ask u what to start up on
The apple button= on macintosh platform it allows you to do various short cuts (like the ctrl button on windows) for example, apple button + q = quit
Ok? if u have any other questions just ask

  • Gaim buddy list synchronization error

    Howdy
I keep getting this when i start gaim, then i get around 200 popups that "this contact is on this and that list, but not on server, do you want to add this and that contact. yes or no".
Quite annoying as it "locks" the entire computer if im unlucky, and if im realy lucky i can slowly alt+y to answer yes to thease questions.
But if its closed, and i reopen gaim, same deal
    [root@CommandCentral thomas]# gaim --version
    Gaim 2.0.0beta6

    Hi armoguy94,
If you have groups set up shut each tab to show the numbers of On-Line Buddies.
Go to the View Menu and select Show Off-Line Buddies
Add the total number of Buddies.
(it can be useful to use the Offline Group to add them quickly)
This will tell you if you are close to the Max of 200 Buddies.
If this shows or you "know" for certain that you have less Buddies then it could be two things centered about synching with the AIM servers.
The AIM servers return you Buddy List to you on port 5190 on the UDP protocol.
    1) This could mean that your login is incomplete
If this is the cae deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restarting ichat may sort it. (the file is in ~/Library/Preferences)
    2) If this is not the problem there are some modems and routers that now specify the Protocols whislt doing Port Forwarding. This can mean that these device do not like Port 5190 open to both TCP and UDP.
The solution to this is to change the iChat Login port and disable the TCP port 5190 setting in the modem or router.
To change the port in iChat go to iChat > Preferences
    Select the Accounts section.
On the left select the active account for the AIM servers
    Select the Server Settings tab
Near the top is the Login Server name and the port
Log out of AIM and change the port to 443.
    Log in to AIM again.
Now disable the 5190 TCP setting in your Modem or router.
This does presume that you have done other settings:
    1) The Mac Firewall is Off or hase the ports set.
    2) the modem or router is using Port FOrwarding and has the ports Opened.
The only other thing I can think of at the moment is that the Screen name has an illeagal character in it.
When setting upo a screen name it normally is in lower csae with no spaces.
On the AIM Set up page for gettinga screen name you can specify how the you are displayed and I can see that someone may have passed you this information rather than the proper screen name.

  • Import an entire buddy list from another account?

I searched for an answer for this but could not find one, if this is a repeat I apologize.
I just created a new AIM account to use through IChat. I have an existing account that I am not going to be using anymore. i would like to import the entire buddy list.
Is there a way to do this all at once, or in a few easy steps? Drag and drop?
    Thanks!
    Steve

  • How do I hide the buddy list when iChat opens at login?

Can anyone tell me the answer to this question? I just find it annoying
when I have to close the buddy list window when I login. Is there any way
of getting it to be hidden automatically and still remain available
to my buddies? (Not Offline) Thanks Glenn.

    Hi Glenn,
IF you hit the red close button the Buddy List window will close but the Application will remain open.
Using the Apple Key + 1 together will bring it back, as will the item in the Window menu of iChat.
IT can be set up by a variation of this FAQ Ralph Johns (UK), "How Do I Use Rendezvous Only In iChat ?", 12:58pm Jan 1, 2005 CDT
I suggest using the Menu bar icon option in the General section of the iChat Preferences to enable further access to your Buddies if the window is closed.

  • HT4437 I hate to ask a stupid question.....

My apple TV states I can use Air Play from an Apple phone/ipad/computer.  However, I do not own any other apple device.  Can I use Apple Air Play with a PC Based Laptop provided that it has all other necessary components installed and updated?

That's not a stupid question at all! The answer is, yes. There are a few applications which can do this but I would personally recommend a favorite of mine called AirParrot. I checked your profile but it seems you do not have your devices entered. I assume you have an Apple TV 2, otherwise AirParrot will not work.
Go ahead and give AirParrot a try, there is a free version for you to test on and if it works you will have to buy the $10.00 full version. It does come with a decent price tag, but it is around the same price it would cost you to get a HDMI to plug into your screen anyway. Plus, it's wireless!

  • I have a problem sending e-mail to people in my Buddy List.

I keep information about people in my buddy list. I keep the information in the blank for their first name and last name goes. this way when I contact them or they contact me, I can roll over their name and all of the information is there for me to see who I am talking to.
Here is the porblem. If I send them an e-mail, all of that information appears in the "To" line of the e-mail. What can I do about this problem ?

Then I believe you must leave the First and Last Name lines blank. I believe OS X Mail will insert whatever info is in those 2 lines, even if they are blank, into the "To" line of your outgoing e-mail.
If you do not find an acceptable solution here, and if you do not want to use a different e-mailer app that does not use the info from OS X's Address Book, you might try posting your question in Mail & Address Book Discussions to see whether any of the users who post there might have better suggestions.

  • Stupid question on uninstalling

K, I know this is probably a really stupid question, but how do you uninstall applications/programs on the MacBook running OSX? I have been a PC user my whole life and FINALLY made the jump (so glad I did). But I am unsure on how to uninstall things (i.e. poker games, chat programs etc). Do you just drag the icon to the trash and delete? Any help on this would greatly be appreciated!

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper 1.6
    Yank 1.31
    SuperPop 1.0b2
    Uninstaller 1.99
    Spring Cleaning 8.0
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

  • Migrating a buddy list

I have a .mac account that my daughter has been using for IM purposes for about 3 years. I now want to use the IM id for my use and get a new .mac account for her.
    My questions are:
    1. Do I need to get her .mac account for IM purposes or is a there a different/better alternative.
    2. She has a LOT of people in her buddy list and I want to migrate the buddy list to her new name/.mac account. How do I go about doing this migration?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re 1) AIM Screen Names or a Trial @Mac account are both free.
Re 2) This is where AIM for Mac (4.7) can come in useful as it has an Export and Import Feature

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question.

How do I use a group I have created in my address book to send an email to everyone in that group. I'm sure it's very obvious, but I have been using the help feature in both mail and address book and it doesn't explain. I've also searched all over this site. I also don't want everyone on the email list to see each other's email addresses. Is this possible.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Lisa
    G-5   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Lisa, no such thing as a stupid question, you have a question that you couldn't figure out, happens to anyone at some point.
First, I'm assuming you indeed have a group formed in AddressBook (AB)
    - go to Mail and compose a new mail
    - click on the small button you see here in front of Account
    - and select Add Bcc field from the drop down menu
    - you should see the AB icon on top of the message window toolbar (if not, do a Customize Toolbar... and drag that AB icon there.
    - select the Icon, your AB data should now appear, including the group
    - select the group in the left column, and select all addresses in the right column (apple-A)
    - press To: button
Now all your addresses will go to the To: field which you do not want. Copy all addresses in the To field (use apple-X to cut), then paste them in the Bcc field with Apple-V
set your own email address in the To: field as this field should not remain empty
    insert message and send !
