Stupid transition bug... black square appears

Hello
I am not very experienced with flash at all... but I wanted to make a nice slide show swf file to go on a CD of images I am creating for someone. I figured out how to put them all in layers, do motion tweening on each after they'd been converted to symbols, brought the color>alpha to zero at frame one and brought it up or down at the right times to fade in and then out.
beautiful...
except it only works on the stage. I can press play and it looks great... but if I test movie or test scene, or even if I export the movie, it doesn't work at all.
As soon as the slides begin a mysterious black square appears. It seems to have something to do with the actual fading in or out. It's not a layer that wasn't set at alpha= 0... I checked and double checked them all. I can't see anything amiss.
I checked the tutorials I could find and nothing seems to be missing and yet, it isn't working so something must be wrong or done incorrectly. I don't understand why I can only see it on testing and not during playback

Same situation here. A workaround is to edit the photo change the filter, save the picture. Now the picture shows up normaly. Do you call the camera app from the lock screen or the home screen?
If I start the camera app from the home screen he problem doesn't appear.

What version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.6.3 the correct version of your OS?
Have you cleaned up your computer using the finder to delete files recenbtly?
If you have not deleted the original photos in error then backup your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your database

• Black squares around apps?

Any time I try to click on an app, a black square appears around the app and won't open. Also I can't switch screens. I just updated to the iOS 5. I've tried reseting it and resyncing it. Anyone else having this issue?

Sounds like some accessibility features have been turned on. See this article for steps on how turn them off.

hi,
just before thinking taht a problem is caused by hardware, it is better and also cheaper to try to eliminate and isolate the problem within software.
first of all, as the simplest way, just create a new user and then try if the same problem exists.
if not, boot your mac using a well-known media. most probably your installation CD or DVD.
and let us know about what is happening.

• Mbp black square next to apple logo on desktop

I bought my mbp in may and since then the hardrive has started to rattle, the batterys life quickly disolved to lasting on 20mins between full charges and has now fully stopped and has to be plugged in to the mains to work. I will take it back to apple when i get back from my travels to get these problems fixed.
The other day a small black square appeared next to the apple logo at the top left of the desktop. I restarted the computer and is disappeared. Tried to google "black sqaure" but nothing relivent came up. Does anyone know what that might have ment.
Would like to get all the faults fixed in one hit.
Hopefully the next one lasts much longer, i must have got a friday afternoon special, not quite what i expected from a £1000 laptop.
Thanks

If the little black square had a "P" inside of it I would say you installed PopChar. If not have you installed any other utilities that want to add a indicator in the menu bar? What happens if you point at the square and click (and maybe hold down) the mouse?
As for the physical problems, you are still under warrantee, so I recommend you have apple look at and fix them.

• Installing a program, added password, all i get is a black square that says REPORT BUG and Setting up,in the middle says procesing login, what can i do? thanks

Hello everyone,I have an IMac that is stuck with a problem, after installing a program, bought from Apple store, inserting my password, started the installing it stopped everything and a black square in the middle of the screen says,REPORT BUG, setting up and in the middle of the square says processing login, I waited a few minuts but nothing else happens,I tried to shut down, but it's still there, what can i do? thanks for any info.Icarorsv.

I'm sorry. Too old to understand this stuff. I'm sure this seems real stupid to you. But I have no idea how one
would "right click on the Original iPhoto Library" (I know, I know, 'as stated").
Do I right click on the symbol in the dock?? Or open it first and then, . . I can't find a way to right click on the word iPhoto in the top bar.
Or should I open the program you had me download. There I can find something called "original iPhoto library".
When I "right click" on that I get some options. None of them are "original folders". There's "reveal library in finder", and "dupilicate library and "sort libraries". I have no idea if any of these are what you want, or if any of these might change something.
When I clicked on "reveal library in finder" earlier on it showed me the copy of the photo library that I made a while ago, sitting right where I know it is on my desktop. And if I click on that symbol it shows me all the pictures again. Just like in my regular iPhoto files - all the thumbs are there, but most can't be opened to full sized.
Are we making progress here? I'm sure this is frustrating to you. This is just pictures of family. Even the thumbs are nice to look at. But this is nothing critical - like work related or anything.
Thanks.

• Transfered video's from Casio Exilim appear as black squares in iPhoto 08

Video's appear as black squares within iPhoto instead of first frame. Nevertheless the black squares still have video logo and duration indication and after double click will open and play in Quicktime. However, this is quite inconvenient if you look for specific videos.
How to fix this?
(I used a Casio Exilim compact camera to shoot these videos)

Chrisjan:
Are you able to play the videos even though the thumbnail is black? You might try rebuilding the library as follows: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

• Black squares on iPhoto

After uploading photos from my camera onto iPhoto, some pictures (specifically the pictures that were taken vertically) are shown as black squares. The picture is shown on the camera but when it's uploaded it appears as a black square. The rest of my pictures are fine.

There apparently is a bug of somesort here - one person reported that if you import, rotate the photo and then revert to original it resolved that photo - a workaround if it works for you - I have not seen this at all but if you search teh forums you will see many reports of it

• IMAQ image with black squares

Hi. I'm using LabView to take a series of images with a camera. When I
preview the image in the camera's software it appears normal. I use
Labview/IMAQ and the VIs that came with the camera. The problem is that
the output TIFF files have this nasty black square checker pattern. I'm
making 8bit images. I there something I can change in IMAQ or the
output as TIFF that could explain this problem? Or is it likely
something in the third party VIs? I can explain more if need be.
Thanks,
-SHane

Shane--
The first thing to check whether it is the 3rd party VI's or not. You didn't even mention what kind of camera you are using, but whether you have a framebrabber or not, if you go to Measurement and Automation Explorer and try to do a snap there do you still see this behavior? This is where you can directly interact with the driver to see what the software is interpreting from your camera. Depending on what type of camera you have you may need a camera file. You can check at www.ni.com/camera to see if we have one. If not, you might check with the manufacturer, if they have VI's they might also have the camera file. If you respond back please include what type of camera and framegrabber you are using. Also, what type of video signal does the camera send out? [If its is a standard you won't need the camera file] Just let me know and we can work from there.

• When I move the mouse quickly, mostly over a link on a page, a small black square flashes

When I move the cursor (mouse) quickly, a small black square quickly flashes where my mouse is, mostly it happens when I mouseover a link fast. The square is sometimes a rectangle and is sometimes different sizes and length's, but it is never HUGE. Mainly it is around 70x70 pixels big or less. I can't really remember when this started happening exactly and I have no idea what this is or if its virus related, but I do full scans with Avast and Malwarebytes all the time and they come up clean.
I've never done this Mozilla Help thing before, so forgive me if I fill in the wrong details...

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

• ISight flickering black square

Hello,
Recently I have been having problems when recording videos through my isight camera directly in imovie HD.
I noticed both large and small black squares flickering on the screen when recording a video. It only appears whilst recording and not during playback of what I've just recorded.
I shut down imovie the first time it happend thinking it was a one off occurance and then it has happend numerous other times.
Has this happend to anyone else?
I thought it may have been due to me playing music in the background through itunes whilst recording the video, which may have caused the problem (and picked up through the isight), but it happens without playing music.
Please help, I might have to take my macbook up to the store if there is no solution as I use imovie all the time to make youtube videos!
Thanks in advance

Macbook 13" Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hello, Michelle
The condition you note is a feature of the software in view of the considerable processor power required for capturing and recording digital video.
When your Mac's processor is working near maximum capacity, OS X and apps like iMovie make decisions of which process should be given priority. When necessary, iMovie sacrifices video monitoring quality to keep record quality high. This seems better to me than keeping the monitor screen sharp but missing frames in the recorded video.
Does your MacBook have the maximum amount of RAM installed. If not, add as much as possible to maximize performance. Additionally, make sure your Mac OS X Maintenance is up-to-date, disconnect all peripherals, quit all other applications before launching iMovie for recording, and make your iMovie window as small as possible. These suggestions will maximize your MacBook's efficiency and minimize processor power requirements while recording.
If the condition persists even when you follow these suggestions, and if you cannot accept the pixilation in the monitor window pane, you can consider capturing your clips with a camcorder or a different movie or video clip application for later import and editing with iMovie.
If none of the above meet your needs, the only remaining suggestion I can offer is that you use a computer with more processor power. For instance, my Dual-Processor G5 Tower Mac is not bothered by pixilation when running iMovie only, but though my old iBook is.
Cheers,
Jim

oh and if you use a creative cloud version of Lightroom it could also be that the logon to the cloud is messed up. Logging out and logging back in from preferences in the creative cloud app will fix that. Due to the release of Lightroom CC it appears that adobe's servers have been overwhelmed a bit And many people have strange problems that are solved by logging out and back in.
