Stutter on song switch or pause

Hi everyone, I have a sort of unique problem. When I play a song everything works fine, but when I switch songs or pause, iTunes will pause, do a little hiccup and play a split second of the old song before switching, almost as if it is lagging. If your computer has ever been under heavy load this may have happened to you, but the thing is, that it is doing it on every pause or every song switch.
If I play song A and then switch by double clicking to song B, iTunes will stop song A, play about .1 second of song A again and then switch to song B.
The same will occur if I just pause iTunes, it will pause and then play about .1 seconds of the song and pause completely.
I've read a lot of problems with iTunes skipping midway through the song or at a specific time, but that is not my problem, the song plays fine.
Edit- I have noticed now with my sound card that I am not able to lower iTunes volume through the Windows mixer

I'm experiencing a similar issue when connecting my iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0.2 to my car's ipod / iphone connection.  After a short period of time, the volume will max out and not let me adjust it.  Even after disconnecting, the volume control displays on my screen at max.  When I try to adjust it, it maxes back out.  Restarting resolves my issue, but it reoccurs the next time I reconnect to the car's ipod / iphone connection.  Really annoying.

Hey, did you get any help on this? I'm having the same issue.

  • IPod song switching problem

When I use my iPod within iPhone 3G and listen in the shuffle mode, if I have the iPod in my pocket as I walk, the songs switch by themselves after 30-60 seconds. I assume that this has to do with the unit somehow being jiggled while I walk, but I don't understand why this should happen. I tried tried various headphones and this happens with them all. This does not happen when the unit is in my car or in other situations when the unit is not moving. How do I fix this?

This is the same with all 5g iPods. You will have to
add something into the album column. Single, stand
alone track or just some _
Oh thanks. Is it really supposed to be like this or is this a bug? Frankly, I prefer the old way better.

  • Can anyone explain why on my iPhone 4S, whenever I play music, it won't hold my place in the song? I pause it, and then when I go back later, it's all the way back at the beginning? A google search was not very helpful, any tips would be great!

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

The only answer is to hard reboot the machine as everything hangs. Even the shell in Terminal.app is stuck which is a pitty as I feel certain that kextunload/kextload AppleYukon2.kext would free the problem but I cant even get to it.
Getting real miffed with 10.6.8 as since I upgraded I have a whole host of problems with it. I cant even plug my ipod in without itunes core dumping.

    BTW: what does
now preventing C4 low power state due to the switch ignoring pause packets
    mean? What are the consequences?

  • Song will often pause momentarily on my Gen 7 Nano, what's wrong with it?

So i will be playing music on my ipod, and it will often just momentarily pause, and then resume playing again. This often happens just after I change the song and when I am walking with it. There is no water damage or anything like that. Any ideas on what is wrong with it?

Nope. It's gotten well and truly worse now. Now the songs are skipping, pausing altogether, it keeps telling me what the song is. Absolutely crazy.

  • My iphone 4 keeps switching songs, playing and pausing by itself especially when I use my headphones

Ever since I installed the iOS 7.1 update, my iPhone 4 keeps playing, pausing, switching to the next song, fast forwarding by itself. Especially when I use my headphones. It's getting really frustrating because not only is it when I listen to the music player, but also on youtube videos and then it pause the video and then play the music from the music player or it would pause music on soundcloud by itself too. This mostly happens when I use my headphones but when I don't use my headphones I don't see it happening.
A friend called me and I was using my headphones and the conversation kept getting hanged up by itself it wasn't until I stopped using the headphones that I could have a normal converstation, but I only talked for less than a minute without the headphones so it wasn't enough to tell me that it is the headphones that is the problem. So is it my phone or my headphones? Is this a software problem because of the update because my headphones were not doing this before, HOW CAN I MAKE THIS STOP. (This has been happening for almost a week now)
BTW: I also noticed that if I am listening to music on the music player or youtube and its in my pocket or hand and Im jumping to the song or shaking (lol) the songs pause and plays then switches to the next song aaaaurrrrrruuuuuuuggggggghrrrrrghhhhhhh WHATS GOING ON

    Hello alplease,
It sounds like your touch screen is acting erratically and seems to be exacerbated when you have your earphones in. I recommend the information in the following article named:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Troubleshooting touchscreen response
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1827
    Restart your device
Hold the On/Off button until "slide to power off" appears. Slide to power off your device. When it is off, press the On/Off button to turn it back on.
If you can't restart your device, reset it by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for a least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Clean the screen with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Avoid using the device while wearing gloves, with wet hands, or immediately after applying hand lotion.
If you have a protective case, or if you are using a plastic sheet or film on the display, try removing them and testing the device without it.
If the steps above don't resolve your issue, please schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store for evaluation. If an Apple Retail store is not an option, contact Apple to find out your best service option or see theService FAQ for your product.
You can also try closing all the open apps:

    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:

  • Continuous play between songs without a pause between tracks

I have a lot of "mixed" cds which I have uploaded into my ipod. The cd's feature many songs mixed together into one continuous flow. Each track is marked (1-?) so you may select a specific song instead of their only being one long track. The problem is that when uploaded into my itunes (and ipod), when the cd is played, there is a pause between the tracks (like on normal cds) which obviously breaks the flow of the music. Is there any way around this?

One other option that I've begun using to separate tracks in a cd with songs that flow from one to the next (Dream Theater anyone?) yet retain the artists vision is to use Apple's Chapter Tool and use this in conjunction with a tool like Scriptbuilder's . "Podcastenhancer". (There are other utilities but this is the one I personally use.)
What this does is allow you to rip the cd with all tracks joined and then add "Chapters" to the file to indicate where each track should start. Created for use in building podcasts (like the iTunes New Music Tuesday podcast) where you want the content broken up, the combination of these tools will help you separate your songs and add album artwork at the same time. What you end up with is one long continuous song file with the ability to jump from track to track on your iPod and select the appropriate "song" in iTunes from the chapter list that appears when the file is played.

  • I accidentally hit "download all" in itunes on my iphone 5. Is there a way to stop this without going thru each song individually and pausing it?

I am new to the iphone, just got my 1st one today!
I was just going to let the songs download, but shortly into it I got a message saying I had used 50% of data plan for MONTH, so I panicked and was just pausing each song as it started downloading.  There's several hundered songs.  Then I got a message saying I had used 75% data!  I turned on my airplane mode to stop everything.  Is there an easy way to stop the songs from ALL downloading without going thru each one individually?  I'm not very tech saavy, so please be nice and use small words...  Thanks.

Syncing shouldn't trouch you photos unless you have photos in a Photo Library album.  These would be photos that were synced to your phone from your computer.  If you do have any, you'll need to use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your computer prior to syncing.
If you prefer to backup your camera roll photos prior to syncing, open iTunes and go to Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  Then connect your phone to your computer and import them as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then, to minimize data loss, follow the steps in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.  To follow the steps, first open iTunes and go to View>Show Sidebar.  Also, Transfer Purchases is now located in File>Devices.

  • ITunes won't play song, even though pause button appears

Recently my iTunes has stopped playing songs. If I click the play button, the pause button appears but the progress bar does not move and no sound is made. The volume on my computer is fine as I can still watch videos on youtube and such. I've recently updated to the lastest iTunes and am not sure whether the songs played find after that or not. I read that it could be a probably with quicktime but I've deleted that and downloaded it again but that did not help.
    Please help me!

I noticed today I am having the same problem. Song would not play in Ver. 9.1.0 and 9.1.1. Same song plays fine in another media player. Also seeing the same that al0022 is seeing, my play button changes to a pause button, and my progress bar does not move. I am able to navigate around iTunes until I try to play a song then I have to kill the task.
I had a Windows update performed yesterday, and believe the windows update is the cause of the problem.
Anyone else unable to play after Windows updates were performed?

  • The song goes to pause when I put my iphone to sleep.

If i listen to a song and move the iphone around the song pauses???

Check the headphones are fully inserted as loose headphones cause the playback to pause.
This is a design feature so that it the headphones get disconnected the playback pauses until you put them back in.

  • ITunes songs skip and pause the abruptly stop and skip to another song

Please help. I have had my macbook for just under two weeks and earlier this evening my itunes has stopped working properly. Every song i play it skips and pauses much like a cd, and then eventually stops abrubtly mid song and skips to another. Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

I just bought a new MacBook and am having the same problem with certain songs. It'll pause at the same point each time, then jump to the next song.

  • Songs skip after pausing from task tray

I'm having a really annoying problem: when I pause a song from the task tray (by right-clicking on the iTunes icon and hitting "pause") and then restart it, it skips about once a minute. Any songs played will then skip in this fashion, until I close iTunes and restart it. I first had this problem when I upgraded to iTunes 7.2, and I tried all of the usual recommended steps to fix it, and nothing worked, so finally I downgraded to 7.1 and it fixed it. I didn't upgrade to 7.3 for this reason, but when 7.4 came out, I thought maybe they'd have fixed it, but I just upgraded and it's doing it again. Please fix, Apple! Does anyone know what's causing this or what I can do about it?
Also, I'm about to get one of the new iPod classics. Will I be able to run it with iTunes 7.1 if I downgrade again, as I'll probably have to do?

not sure but I think you have to have the newest version of itunes for the new ipods that just came out.
Can't help you with the skipping, sorry.

  • I can't continue listening to the song I had paused

I have a playlist in my music on shuffle and when I put the current song on pause and come back to it later I can't continue the songs from where I left off. I used to slide up the control center and just press play to continue the song I was on, but that won't work anymore.

    Hi karina214,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Does this behaviour happen with any song, or only a specific song?  I would suggest resetting the iPod shuffle to resolve the issue.

  • Ipod playing at random part in song after on pause

I pressed pause on my ipod and came back to it about 1/2 an hour later. I pressed play and it started playing somewhere different in the song! Near to the start, but not at the start!
I just updated my software-however I updated it while the ipod was plugged in...maybe I should not have done that?

It's possible that you triggered the touchpad to do something while you had it in your pocket. I can work all the controls on my 5th gen unit through the fabric of every pair of slacks I've tried it with. (I also have a hard plastic case that covers the whole thing except the ports and click wheel, which makes it easier to do things by feel.)
