Stuttering Audio from Capture Ingest

I have been having a problem for a while now.  When ingesting a tape or direct line, sometimes the audio on the record will begin stuttering.  At a seemingly random point, the audio of the record will begin to loop a 1 second bite over and over until the record is complete.  Confirmed it is the capture by playing the clip in other programs.  Odd thing is the real time playback as it is capturing will sound fine.  I end up knowing there is a problem when the capture is complete, because the "Save Captured Clip" window will fail to pop up when it reaches the out point.  Instead it will continue to record beyond the set out point.
There is no consistency where this audio fail happens.  Sometimes it won't even happen at all.  This has happened with DVCPRO tapes, Sony HDCAM tapes, and even a studio line cut from our switcher.  Any insight or suggestions would be helpful.

Typically, "stuttering" can be a result of either low signal strength or high signal noise values, or both.
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like the following to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible:

o iStumbler

  • Stuttering Audio from 10.6.8 Update all Outputs

    Hi,
I updated to 10.6.8 and now have stuttering audio using either digital output, headphone output and from the internal speakers so I think something there is a bug.
I tried rolling back 'AppleHDA.kext' using the 'MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.7.dmg' and Pacifist but that didn't help the situation.
Anyone else having similar issues/have an idea for a fix? I don't have a time machine backup with with 10.6.7 unfortunately...

I have a early 2008 macbookpro 2.8 duel with silver keys.
I purchaed the 10.6 disk from the apple store. I've had the machine for years and purchased it refurbished from apple.
I did the erase and install and migrated everything over from external drive, then did update to 10.6.8 and the usb ports still would stop working after a few hours.. Then I read on another apple community forus to reset pram, and pull out the power cable, take out the battery and hold power key for 5 seconds, then restart. that seemed to fix usb issue so far..
But overall my computer seems to be running slower then when using just 10.5.8 and it did not wake from sleep once and I had to force power off and restart.. But maybe its just getting used to 10.6.8. we will see..
Also, on another note, my battery is totally dead, and I can only run computer with power cable.. Will this affect things? it never did with 10.5.8..
Oh, on my erase and install, I just did the simplest version and did not do the full erase to zero using he advanced security measures.. I just did the one where it writes on top of everything..

  • Stuttering audio from airport express...

I installed my first airport express yesterday. Had some problems: my main computer couldn't load the Airport Utility (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7132922&tstart=0), and I've gotten things configured through another computer but I'm getting lots of stuttering audio when I attempt playback.
There's a pattern to it: the song starts fine, and then about 3 seconds in it starts stuttering. A buffering issue?
No problems on the network that I'm aware of.
I tried setting Quicktime to "safe mode waveout", but no help.
    Any tips?

  • Distorted Audio from captured movies

I have 17 mini DV's to capture for a client. Unfortunately he didn't take my advice and hire a professional videographer for his seminar. He just used a $500 camcorder and plugged in a splitter for external mics and used a handheld and a cordless lapel mic to record the sound. The sound level on the lapel mic is very low and "thin" and the handheld is much louder. There is also a very distinct buzzing throughout all the tapes. I am capturing them from my camcorder into Final Cut Studio Pro. Now I am stuck with this 'junk." What can I do to help the audio quality?
    Dual 2GHz G5 & 17 1.5GHz PBk

    OUCH!
If he can't or doesn't want to do a re-shoot, I'd have to pass on that job. It isn't just about the money, it's the fact that he obviously has no concept of what he's doing and those types will almost always be damned near impossible to please. You could end up spending hours and hours trying to clean up his mess and it still not be what he's expecting.
Yep ... I'd have to tell him to take a hike.
But if you decide to take the job, tell him in no uncertain terms that he's handed you a mess - force him to adjust his expectations more toward reality.
On the technical side of it, you'll probably need a good audio editing/enhancement program like ProTools for this type of work.
    Best of luck!

  • No audio from captured files on playback

    Hi,
I've got a strange problem with video files that I've captured FCP 6.0.4.
While it captures the video and audio, as soon as I play the clip back whether it be in the preview or through timeline, no audio can be heard, though in the audio meter box it show's that it's there.
But if I bring in an audio clip, say I've captured through iMovie... no problems.
    Any ideas.

I'll give that a try in the morning, and let you know how that goes.

  • No audio from captured clips in Timeline

I captured footage onto my FCP. Video and audio played fine in the window that immediately comes up but after I saved it to my bin in my browser and then put it in the timeline I lost audio. The levels are moving and it says Av1 and Av2 in the logging area as well seeing the audio waves.
I disconnected the camera that I am using to capture the footage.
HELP!!! It seems like I have to press one simple button but I can't figure it out.

Why would my new Ingested files use audio from previous Ingested files that are completely unrelated when I open them in Premiere Pro CC to began a new Project? I can not hear any audio that's on the Ingested file, just a different files audio from a previous Rough Cut.

  • Capturing Audio from DAT

    Hello,
I'm trying to capture audio from a DAT deck (Tascam DA-20) into FCP HD by routing it through my JVC BR-DV600U DV deck (RCA output from DAT, RCA input to DV deck, Firewire into FCP).
The DV deck's input is set to line-in, and the audio is being routed through (audio meters on DV deck mimic those on DAT deck, and I can hear the audio through the headphones jacked into my DV deck).
However, when I try to capture the audio on FCP, I am unsuccessful, prompting the following window from FCP: "Error: Final Cut Pro HD was unable to read the movie file just captured."
Now, I use the same set up I described above to capture footage from my Beta deck into FCP with no problems (route Beta signal through DV deck and firewire it into FCP). This leads me to believe that perhaps the glitch lies within my Capture Presets.
At first, I tried to capture the signal as an Audio-Only DV NTSC 48 Khz/Non-controllable device. After that failed, I tried to create my own capture preset, but am not sure it will make a difference, as the only input choices I am given are DV Audio, Built-In Audio, and None.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Why not capture the audio content outside of FCP, check the sample rate for 48Khz/16-bit, convert if necessary, save as an AIFF file, and then import that resulting sound file into FCP?
Any good audio app, including STP will do captures.
You are probably going to need to do some cleanup on the audio anyway before you use it, so why not just use an audio app to do it beforehand?
Besides, if you have an audio device (PCI card or Firewire device) in your Mac, you can use the S/PDIF port for your connection to the DAT and do a digital transfer when you import.
As I understand the way you are doing it now, you are taking digital content from the DAT, converting it to analog for the connection into your deck, and then re-converting it into digital when you capture it back into FCP.
One big advantage of digital audio (and video) is to avoid generation loss and added noise during transfer if you go D-to-D.
If you don't have an audio card or Firewire A/D audio I/O device with S/PDIF ports in your Mac, then see if you can find a friend who has one and can do the transfer for you. Then he can give you the file on a CD-ROM.
    That's what I'd do.

  • Final Cut Express:  No audio when capturing from camcorder

When capturing video from my "Sony TRV 18" digital camcorder and a Canon ZR500 digital camcorder
into Final Cut Express 4.0.1 via fire wire to my scratch disk - a LaCie external hard drive -
I get the video in my browser but it has no accompanying audio.
When I move a captured clip from the browser to the viewer and time line, the video shows up, but (1) there is no accompanying audio shown in the audio time line, (2) no audio can be heard and (3) the audio meters show no action.
My Easy Setup settings for audio match my camera audio settings.
I've used different firewires between the camera and the scratch disk. Still the same.
This has been a problem for about a month. Everything worked fine before. To make project deadlines, I have worked around this anomaly by capturing clips in IMovie 4 on my older Mac laptop than transferring the media clips to my Final Cut Express scratch disk. That works, but it is time consuming and requires rendering of all the audio.
I use an IMac with OSX 10.6.5 with 266 GHz intel Core i5.
Thank you in advance for any tips that could help.

    Hi Sid
I get the video in my browser but it has no accompanying audio.
YES - This is the way FinalCut Express AND Pro works !
If You need the audio - Then You connect a small set of speakers to Your miniDV Camera
    (headphone out)
alt. if no phono-out on Camera is to connect a small TV to the Camera analog way
and here You can both see and hear during Capture
(BTW - Connecting a small TV (or if §§§§§ is no problem a reference monitor
§5-10,000 or even more) is a Very good way of keeping Quality control during
editing process. Eg Transitions, audio levels, color fidelity etc. I do and the
ref monitor are well compared to my final DVDs.)
There are NO WAY that You can monitor audio during Capture in any FinalCut versions !

  • Audio from a captured clip over still graphics

I capture the on-camera portion of my presentation and then place graphics and titles over the captured video. How can I allow the audio from the clip to continue when a graphic appears, other than using the non-transition effects? To see what I'm doing visit www.jimblue.com and click on the Toledo Media Vlog at the top of the page.

I am having the same challenge... any tips here would help me out in a big way. I recorded my boss tdoing a training session and now I would like to have the powerpoint slides change as necessary - but I want the audio to remain. I would love to just get the slides to change rather than back to full before bringing up the next slide. Jim, if you come up with anything, let me know. I have VC2 pro.

  • Can JMF capture audio from sound card?

I want to know if JMF can capture sound/audio from the sound card. Until now we have been capturing audio from microphone. but is there any possibility of capturing audio from sound card using JMF.
The audio captured from the sound card is to be streamed using JMF/RTP API.

    Dear seniors,
i have tried to display my audio file as a graph as

  • Capture Audio from Mic

I am new to Java and need to know where to start with developing a Java app that can capture audio from a pc's mic, convert it to mp3, name the audio, and store it in a directory of my choosing. Additionally, I'll need an interface to that audio app that can receive function calls and args from a windows-based application.
Can you point me in the right direction- sample code if possible.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I have the same problem. There doesn't seem to be any sample code for capturing an audio recording with JMF! I have browsed the web, the usenet groups and the (physical) library. It's almost like they try to keep it secret :/
There is plenty of information on how to use the JMF player, though.

  • Capture audio from separate device

Is it possible to capture from a camera, but record the audio at the same time from a different audio device, e.g. soundcard?
(My camera does not have a separate audio input with reasonable quality, so one could save from having 2 separate files by recording video from camera plus audio from soundcard. I'm not sure if that would really work due to latency problems, but I'd like to give it a try if possible.)
    Thanks!

My practice is to capture sound separately using an hard disc recorder, from two to twenty-four tracks, and to combine this with the video in Premiere Pro. I use the sound track on the tape to achieve synchronization (which is very easy in Premiere Pro). If the room is small (<100 feet) I can use an on-camera microphone. For best results I use a wireless feed from the recorder to the camera.
It's important to use a digital recorder, preferably at 48KHz sampling speed (you can convert from 44.1 or something else, but the speed may slip). An analog source, like a cassette deck, varies too much in speed, often more than 5%, to be useful. The sync slip is usually less than 3 frames per hour of recording. Most digital recorders have a digital output which can be captured directly by the computer through firewire or USB. If your only choice is an analog sound card, don't bother - too noisy and bad timing.
