Stuttering Fade In Fade Out Dissolve

All,
I'm trying to cross fade two clips together and my fades are stuttering. They don't look smooth at all. I don't know why, but they were looking good before and now this.
I've read that effects are not as smooth in Final Cut as they are on DVD. That's fine, but like I said my fades were looking so much smoother before.
Any clues?
Trey

have you tried trashing all of your render files and starting over? Sometimes they can get corrupted or render on top of each other and end up creating a render that looks horrible.

  • Ken Burns with Fade in Fade out Dissolve

I have about 300 pictures and want to add kens burns and fade in fade out dissolve to all at once then go one by one and adjust.
I figured out how to do copy paste attriubutes to all pics for Ken Burns, BUT not sure if there is a simple way to add Fade in Fade out Dissolve btn each of them to avoid doing 300x
    Thanks much

OK I'll bite... Who is this Ken Burns?
There's a couple of ways to go about adding your transitions. I think is the easiest.
Make sure the favorite transition and length you want it are set in your effects tab. Select all of your clips in the timeline and drag them up to the canvas holding down the mouse. Several options should display and I believe the one you want is overwright with favorite transition. Its been a while since I've done but give it a try and post back if I'm wrong.
    For bonus points-
Another way to quickly add your favorite transition is to use the arrow key or mouse to position the cursor at the edit point and press Apple+T

  • Fade in Fade out dissolve automatically added to every cut

After two months I finally finished editing a movie. Exported and burned it to a dvd and saved the most final version. Came back two days later to do a bit more work and while working on it, and perhaps I accidently hit something, but the timeline did something funky I had never seen. It added what looked like ghost lines that I couldn't figure out how to remove. Shut things down and went back to it a day later only to find that every cut had a fade in fade out dissolve added. I tried going back to earlier saved versions but they turned out to all require a lot of work to get me to the final version.  Seemed easier to just go back and delete and change the fade out fade in transitions.
    Anyone know what happened?

Yes. If I have a timeline with clips on it:
and I select them all (by using, in the case Command + A):
Then install a dissolve by typing Command + T, it gets applied to all the cut points:

  • FCP, won't allow fade in/fade out dissolve between clips?

I'm trying to add this dissolve between two clips. When I drag the dissolve over to the timeline, the dissolve covers one clip but not the other? There is not a frame space between them.
    Thanks in advance.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use FCP. There's a FCP Support Community where everybody uses FCP. You should also post this question there.

  • Fade out without fade in??

hi, i need to make fade-outs, without having a fade-in. but i can't find any option for that; a fade-out seems to be connected automatically to a fade-in. Can anyone help me out on this?

technically spoken, iMovie has no fade-out.
dissolve, or transition thru black ...
The work-around Bengt recommends is the only way to fade to black AND starting the next scene without a fade-in.
    But ………
    due to iM's inherent rule
"a transitions length is max half length of shortest clip involved"
this workaround adds some 'black' to that fade-out!
if the fade is 2sec, before the next clip there are 2sec of black - no 'fade-out, cut' ....
when you shorten the black, the fade gets shorten too....

  • I have 5 layers of texts with a white background on the bottom(V1). I want to cross dissolve to black at the same time on all layers. However they all don't disappear at the same time. It seems the top layer fades out last, and so on.

I have 5 layers of texts with a white background on the bottom(V1). I want to cross dissolve to black at the same time on all layers. However they all don't disappear at the same time. It seems the top layer fades out last, and so on. These are 20 frame dissolves.

    FCP User Manual, page 798.
You can condense multiple clips that are stacked above each other into a nest. The nest appears as a single clip in the Timeline. If you need to modify the individual clips inside after you have created the nest, it can be expanded again by double clicking it.

  • Selective Cross Dissolves / Dip to Black / Fade In & Fade Outs

Hi, would anyone also know the reason why sometimes the fade ins and fade outs don't want to apply to some tracks? My solution has been to just keep adding multiple tracks so that it could apply. What's the explanation for this?
    Many thanks.

    Indeed!
Welcome to the forum. We can't tell you why, but this seems to be one of the biggest hurdles for new FCP users. Especially if they came from iMovie. iMovie will nibble away at your media as needed for a transition. FCP won't. If you put an IN somewhere and want a 30 frame transition you better have 15 frames of material BEFORE that inpoint. Same for OUTs where you'll need 15 frames AFTER the out point.
Good luck, when you get past this it's smooth sailing!!

  • Fade Out to White in Final Cut Pro (FCP)

Could someone please show me how to do add a fade-to-white transition in Final Cut Pro (FCP)? (Instead of black, which is default.) I want to be able to do both: 1) fade to white; 2) and white to the picture. An example clip:
    http://www.allfilters.com/campingfilters/gravityfed/platypus-gravityworks-filter
    *Click on the "Videos" tab.
This clip ends with "fade to white." I want to apply the same effect in the beginning (white to movie).
    Thank you in advance.

Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve> Dip to Color Dissolve ... add it at the start and end
Double click the transition at the start (the Fade In) to open it in the Viewer and change the Color property to White. For extra credit you can change the Start value to 50%. Then double click the transition at the end (the Fade Out) to open it in the Viewer and again change the Color property to White. For extra credit change the End value to 50%.
Or another way would be to use Effects > Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid to create a "White" clip and then use that to dissolve into and out of your edit using a regular Cross Dissolve transition or by placing the Color Solid on another layer and the keyframing the opacity.
    Hope it helps

  • How to make a combined zoom and fade in/fade out effect in Premiere Pro CS4

    Hi everyone,
Like the title says, I would really love to have an effect I could just drag from the effects menu onto my footage (mostly text titles) so they could fade in for a second, zoom in slightly while they're on screen, and then fade out for the clip's last second.
That would make my workflow a LOT faster than fiddling with keyframes for the zoom and always grabbing the cross dissolve at the start and end of the text for a few projects I have.  It doesn't sound like much, but when you have moving fading text a couple dozen times in each project and it takes the bulk of your time on the project, the repetition reminds me there has to be a better way.
That's what a computer is supposed to do, right, take care of simple repetitive tasks?  So how can I get this set up as a reusable effect?
    Thanks!

    Dave,
I will +1 Pixelan's products. They are great, simple, and have about the best support that I know of. When you explore, say Pixelan's SpiceMaster, dig deeply. Things appear rather mundane, on the surface, but there is so very much power lurking, just below the surface. I could almost imagine a 1000 page manual to cover every possible aspect of that program... Every time that I use it, I learn something new, and wonderful.
    Good luck,

  • How to lenghten the clip with fade out

I have a clip on the secondary storyline wich ends with a fade out. I'd like to lenghten the clip maintaining its fade out as it is. Is there a quick way to do it without having to cut and paste the fade out?

Actually something strange happens here. I move the clip backward (after having selected clip and dissolves) and I get that the clip is moved, but the dissolves remain where they were.....) :

  • Fade out/fade in

A couple months ago someone (Karsten Schluter?) showed me a cool way to fade out / fade in my titles without separating each title by a few frames and then applying a cross dissolve to all.
I have been under a lot of pressure since my wife of 61 years has been diagnosed with brain cancer and has been told she has six months to live.

  • Fade out to white

how do we fade out to white

Open the Generators in the Viewer and select Matte>Color.
Change it to white and drag it next to the clip you want to fade out.
Insert a cross-dissolve and stretch it to about 2 seconds ........ or whatever suits you.

Sure thing. If the idea is to make it look like A is
    dissolving into B,
I would leave B at full opacity the whole time. Just reduce
    A's opacity.
If you fade one out and fade one in at the same time, there's
    this "dead
spot" when both are at half opacity, and the whole image
    seems to dip out
    momentarily.
You could use the Tween class for this. Look up "Tween
    class" in the
documentation and you'll find a section on "About the Tween
    class" as well
as the Tween class entry itself, in the Components Language
    Reference. Use
_alpha as the property to tween.
    > why not just make image A and B animate for 5 seconds

    anything

There are definitely times to animate by hand (think complex
    character
animation), but there are also times to animate via
    ActionScript. If you
want something to animate for 5 seconds in a timeline, you
    have to take into
consideration what framerate you're running and do the math.
    If you need
five seconds at 24fps, you need 120 frames for that. What if
    you decide to
change your mind? What if you need 10 seconds? Now you need
    240. What if
you change the movie's over all framerate? With ActionScript
    and the Tween
class, you only need one frame.

    actionScript...

    with

Code can actually be harmful if you're unfamiliar with it.
    ;) More
important than finding code is making sure you have a
    programmer's mindset.

  • Looking for a fade out only transition

Is there a fade out transition that only fads out, and not in? I want to put one at the very end of my movie so that when it ends it fades out instead of just cutting off fast. I saw there is a fade in/out transition but that requires it going betwee n two clips. Thanks.

Just place a regular dissolve at the end at whatever duration you need. Or keyframe the opacity.

  • Quick way to fade out audio on a clip

    FCE 4.0
hi. is there a quick way to automatically have the audio fade out entirely at the end of a clip other than inserting keyframes and dragging it out that way? Scenario would be that I am doing a fade-in/fade-out video dissolve and would like the audio to do the same. when I tried the audio transitions of 0 or 3db (I can't tell any diff, btw) it doesn't seem to actually fade the audio to zero.

more info... it seems that none of my audio transitions are working at all. I imported an MP3, rendered it, split it, and added some crossfades. Made the duration like 3 seconds just to be sure, and literally no adjustment is happening to the audio at all. Is there a setting I'm missing? Now, if I use the keyframes, I can adjust it fine. It's just not adjusting with the audio crossfade transitions.
