Stuttering/lag durring QT playback

I'm running into a problem where clips that are playing in Safari are frequently stuttering (i.e. video & audio cut out, or audio keeps playing, but video freezes.) This doesn't happen when I download the movie and play it in the QT application.
I've played around w/ the setting in the Quicktime app, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm using a cable modem to wirelessly connect to the 'net, so I think I should be able to watch streaming vids w/ no lag. Any ideas?

Since downloaded files play okay on your system, I would assume the problem is most likely in the ISP connection. This usually occurs when connection speed drops down to or below the playback data rate of the file coming in to the QT Player. Cable modem spreeds are drastically reduced during periods of high user volume. Sometimes the weather can cause problems -- especially if any of the upstream cables are of the older, buried type. If the problem comes and goes or steadily gets worse, it might be a good idea to have your ISP check the incoming signal.

  • ITunes lagging during song playback

    The specs:
I have about 30 gigs of music on an external hard drive. It's a 250g MyBook.
    The problem:
During playback certain songs will lag or skip during playback, almost as though iTunes is having trouble keeping up with them. I just upgraded to the latest two versions of iTunes. Before that, I'd never had any problems with my library. The songs themselves have no skips in them, either in previous versions of iTunes or on the CDs they were imported from (or downloaded from the iTunes store).
    My Question:
How do I keep the songs from lagging during playback? It would be a real pain to have to re upload all my music to fix this problem.

i've got a pretty hefty collection.. and i've asked apple about this over and over again and they always say to upgrade to the latest version. updating does not solve the issue, it only makes things slower.
my entire desktop freezes when i switch between songs and in the beginning of the next song for about 10-20 seconds.
with that said... i did some tests when i was unemployed.
the itunes library file is a massive XML file. this file holds all your library information. iTunes will load this file into ram to make searching faster, however, with the file loaded into ram, it is still painfully slow.
i built a website off my itunes collection, loaded the xml file into a mysql database and my ~ 90mb library file became a 10mb sql database. strange ain't it. my core 2 duo w/ 2 gigs of ram would take 20 seconds to find a track, that my 700 mhz p3 could find in under 5 seconds.
itunes real issue is that i can't handle large libraries. all these "cool new features" don't mean anything if their software doesn't lag the system.
i'd love to see steve jobs get up in front of the world and say "so this year, instead of cool new features, we've made itunes perform better. no more lagging, even with large collections."
    i can only dream.

  • Lag in iTunes Playback via ATV

I recently noticed a serious lag in my iTunes playback over my ATV.  I can see the library and the playlists, but when I select music, I get the spinning wheel for various lengths of time until it finally loads.  Playback may or may not be consistent after loading.  I may listen to part of one song, or it may go for three hours, no consistency there.
Nothing else is affected on the network.  All other iOS devices connected to WiFi have strong connections.  Computer and ATV are on the same network, no firewalls.  I am running a 2008 MBP on 10.9.2 with iTunes and ATV both on most recent SW versions.  Modem and router are both Netgear, and have been reset.
    Any thoughts?

  • Streaming video (using Videos-app) from MBP 13" to iPad 2 and iPhone 4S is stuttering/lagging every few minutes

I have imported a number of movies and tv shows into my iTunes library. This library is located on an external USB 2.0 hard drive which is connected to my MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012. I use an Airport Extreme (5th gen.) as my network hub, everything is connected wirelessly through either the 5GHz or the 2.4GHz wifi signals.
Whenever I watch these videos on my MacBook itself of my AppleTV (3rd gen.) everything works just fine, no lag or stuttering. But when I want to watch these videos on my iPad 2 (6.1.2) or iPhone 4S (6.1.3) using the standard Videos app, I get lag and/or stuttering every few minutes just like you would when an internet video isn't loading fast enough. Speedtests indicate a stable internetconnection (fiberglass) at 30Mbps up and down, and internet videos (i.e. Youtube) stream just fine, even the 1080p ones. That's why I don't think my networkconnection is the problem.
Frankly, I don't have any idea where to look next. I checked all settings in iTunes (homesharing is enabled, any other settings seem to have no relation with this subject) and the iPad/iPhone, restarted the devices completely but not with any improvement.
Why is this happening? I'm used to Apple products having an optimal user experience, but in this case it's just not working like it should...

Try putting one of those movies onto your macbooks' drive and stream it and see if you have the same lag.
It's probably not being pulled from that external drive fast enough causing the lag.
I know you can watch it off your macbook fine, but you're pulling it onto the laptop, then pushing it out to the router and data transfer is always slower the more 'stuff' you give it to pass through.
For example, I can pull stuff off a harddrive at a gig a minute....but if i pull it off one and write it directly to another (using the computer as the go between) i get about 75% speed.....something that should take an hour can take almost an hour and a half.
So try streaming directly off your macbook and see if you stutter.

I bought two Seagate 1TB Barracuda drives and installed them as a Raid 0. This did not change the stutter during playback. I contacted the GPU manufacturer and they said to install the latest driver. They have had several updated drivers recently. I have tried each new one as they were releases with no improvement. Nvidia said I can send it in for "warranty repair". I just paid for the GPU card on October 20th. I tried disabling the audio devices. No change.
I need help and do not know what to do next.

  • Bootcamp gaming stuttering/lagging, not network related

    Hi Community!
I have a question / problem, I would like to solve...
I installed bootcamp windows 7 on my MBP, 16gb i7 2.7Ghz 512 SSD. I installed a couple of heavy games such as borderlands 2, Crysis, battlefield etc. and i was running them all pretty much on max settings, all was fine and running smooth as silk.
Then, after a couple of months, all these games started "stuttering", like, micro lags, it doesn't feel smooth at all and it is so annoying, they come in bursts every 1 or 2 seconds.
I have tried most of the basic solutions, one of them of course being setting all graphs to lowest and resolution to lowest, yet game speed remains the same and  stutters and lags are still present..
I would say this is software related, but I am not 100 percent sure. I have taken it to an apple store and they tested it extensively and said my mac was fine..
Please if you have encountered something similar and have a solution for this, please let me know,
    Thanks !

  • Premiere Pro CS6 Extreme Lag / Choppiness In Playback Please Help

I have a brand new Windows 8.1 Desktop
1 GB Video Card AMD Radeon 7700
    16 GB Ram
    3.4 Ghz i7-3770 CPU
Scratch Disk on an external drive that spins at 7200 RPM
I'm coming from a Macbook Pro (with less specs then the current desktop I'm using) in which I had no problem with playback choppiness/lag with premiere pro cs6, so this has been quite frustrating to figure out.  I've looked at several other threads, etc and there has been little help on the subject it seems.  If anyone has any tips, advice, or can point me in the right direction to get rid of the lag/choppyness that would be a blessing.

    Okay I solved the problem.
If anyone else encounters this here's how you solve it.
    Goto "Sequence"
    Goto "Sequence Settings"
Here you will see "Video Previews"
    Preview File Format
I switched from "Microsoft AVI" to "P2 720p 60hz dvcprohd"
Now there is no lag/choppiness in any of my video preview files.  HOORAY!

  • Crackling, stuttering, lagging audio

I was messing with some audio settings the other day, basically trying to make things louder. Now as I'm trying to play back through iTunes, I'm getting intermittent portions of crackling and stuttering audio. Audio through everything else seems to be fine including Youtube. I went back to iTunes and unchecked "Sound Enhancement" but I'm still getting the same problem. I'm sure it's a simple fix but I think I've tried everything else. Thanks for the help and recommendations!

  • 60G ipod stutters at beginning of playback

I am having an annoying problem with my ipod stuttering at the beginning of playback on a fairly large number of songs.
Is Apple planning on correcting this problem and does anyone know why it is happening? My guess is that is has something to do with the skip protection.
    At $400, it is unacceptable.

I use the Apple Lossless format. I had reset the ipod before and that did not help. However, I discovered something yesterday by accident. I was listening to a song that was mastered hot (on the CD it originally came from) and it was clipping in my earphones - even at a low playback level. I took the EQ to off in order to keep the kick drum from clipping (A Toto song). For some reason none of the songs that previously stuttered at the beginning of playback are doing that any more now that I have the EQ set to off.
Why would having EQ on cause tracks to stutter in the first 1 - 2 seconds of playback?
I still think that is unacceptable for a product that costs $400

  • JVC GZ-HD7 .tod files, playback stutters in QT but playback fine in iMovie

I know there had been posts in other threads about this or similar, but I see that most had been answered, so I though it best to create a new thread for my specific questions.
I am able to convert my .tod files either in QTpro (using the JVC provided plugin for QT and simply doing an export) or using MPEG-SC 1.93beta. What I am trying to figure out though, is what has worked for others in getting the best quality from the .tod files, specifically when filming in 1920x1080 and not 1440 cbr mode.
It was recommended to use the Apple intermediate codec in a different thread. I have tried this and the h.264. The h.264 had the largest file size after export and the least amount of stuttering but it was still there. As a test I used only a 2 min clip.
It isn't a deal breaker since once the .mov's are imported into the timeline of iMovieHD they playback perfectly. But I would like to be sure that I am exporting correctly and able to playback the raw clips in QT.
Lastly, could anyone share with me how long it is taking to convert their clips and what methods used. It took me 1 hour to export a 9 min clip to .mov, and even longer for a straight import into iMovie without converting the .tod file first (drag the .tod to the clip pane.)
    Thanks.

Also, this is really stupid, but I have never set up a batch convert for file in MPEG-SC...Can you tell me how this is done so I can start a batch and come back to this machine in a week or so.
As with most things, the specific workflow may depend on a number of different factors. In this case, it may depend on the specific version of MPEG Streamclip in use and the specific nature/variation in processes required. In all instances, however, batch processing is intiated by selecting the "Batch List" List menu option. If you are using the latest 1.9b3 version, you can then:
    1) If performing a series of the same, simple, basic conversions/Demux operations (e.g., dumux a all of the SG1 season 1 VOBs to elementary streams), then simply press the "Add Files" button in the "Batch List" window and enter the specific information as requested. (I.e., select source files, how to prepare them, what conversion/demux operation is to be performed, specify the target name/destination, etc.)
    2) If you are performing more complex actions (e.g., converting a series of 16 x 9 source files to different cropped/scaled aspect ratios like 1.85:1, 2.35:1, and 2.40:1, then I would use the normal "work" window to select each source file and enter the different/unique settings desired for each and then press the "Batch List" button in the "Work" window to add destination file information and transfer all of your settings to the batch list.

  • Text Causing Lag in the Playback

I have noticed that if I have a decent amount of text on the
stage, whether it is in motion or not, it creates lag for anything
else that is in motion. I have tried both static and dynamic text,
both causing the same issue. Is it my computer? Or am I just
    missing something? Thanks in advance.
    GAMBRKER

first of all Its not your computer
, every time you use large amount of text you will
face a lag in the CPU, however there is a solution to avoid the
lag, but this will cause to have a large file size.
Try to break the text apart and group every paragraph for
example as a symbol, this will solve the lag problem.

  • IPhone 6 stutters/lags when it vibrates

I got my brand new iPhone 6 about 2 weeks ago and noticed that - specifically  when I'm playing a game - there is a 1-2 second lag whenever I receive a notification and it vibrates. When the notification is silent (such as Instagram) it runs smooth. Anyone else having the same issue? I've got an iPhone 6 running the latest OS update.

Unfortunately the problem came back and is now even worse.
It comes and goes but the biggest problem seems to be in Safari. So far it has taken me about three minutes to write the two first sentences... However the last sentence took just a few seconds an now it's  working properly again...
    What can be wrong?

  • IMovie clips freezing/stuttering while editing in playback & after exporting to Quicktime

I've been working with iMovie since 2003 and if its not one thing, its always another. This particular problem is a new one, and I can't seem to find the get around. Any advice would be appreciated!
Working on a wedding video (large event size but only 6-8 minute project) and the clips are freezing/stuttering in the project and viewer windows when I try to play them back. Each time it freezes, I get the spinning wheel for 5-10 seconds before I can place my marker and try again. Endless cycle. This happened in a few other projects, but those I was able to edit out the freezing clips OR found that exporting to Quicktime seemed to smooth out the glitches, just made editing a pain.
Not this time. Even after exporting to Quicktime, there are still numerous glitches in my quicktime movies (using default and numerous other settings).
Here are the things I've tried: reinstalling my iLife 09 software, running all the updates, clearing off my hard drive (to give me 70+GB of space), detaching my external hard drive and only using internal memory, restarting, and deleting the plists. No luck, still have these glitches.
Could this be an issue with audio or using the stabilization option (used that for the first time)?

    jepartyservice wrote:
.. 90min movie .. share to iDVD .. iMovie would freeze and be unresponsive.. .exporting to QuickTime .. 13 hours .. random stills .. iMovie will freeze ..
Would putting all of the clips and the project on an external hard drive help? Would updating to OS 10.5.8 help exporting to QuickTime?
plus your profile, MacBook, indicates to me, your internal harddrive is full.
check with DiskUtility, how many partitions your internal drive has.
check, how much free disk space internal you offer your apps.
imho, extHDD is a MUST when editing video..
.. is there any way to move our already edited clips from iM09 to iM06?
use 'Export using Quicktime', choose dv-stream (for SD content) or AppleIntermediate (for HD content) - these are the only codecs, iMHD6 reads..
this export consolidate the project => it comes into iMHD6 as a single solid file, e.g. no more editing of titles, which are now 'burned into film'.
_consider to create a special 'transfer'-version of your project:_
in Project Browser, select project, ctrl-click, 'duplicate', and create a pre-production version (no titles, no music, additional material for further editing, longer clips to add transitions in iMHD6.. ect)

  • Nokia Lumia 800 - Micro Stuttering / Lag in OS and...

    Hi everyone,
I just thought i'd bring an issue up that i've been experiencing recently.
I have a Nokia Lumia 800 (locked to Telstra - Australia)
I'm experiencing very minor, completely random slow downs or lag sometimes when just flicking through the phone OS and also at times when watching video (either recorded on the phones own camera or Youtube etc).
The most repeatable way for me to demonstrate the problem is watching a video i have recorded using the phones inbuilt camera, when playing the video back (on the phone) the video randomly lags, usually for about the first 60 seconds and then plays smoothly. It is definately not a reception or buffering issue, as in most streaming cases, the phone is well buffered.
I have also experienced slowdowns when typing an SMS, where the key presses are very slow to show up on the screen and also when launching even OS built in apps like the People Hub or Contacts.
I'm running the latest firmware 12070 (in Australia) and have tried hard resetting my phone, disabling all background agents etc with no luck.
I previously had a 1st gen HTC Mozart which experienced no slowdowns and played back all manner of video with no lag whatsoever.
There has been some discussions on XDA here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26164497&posted=1#post26164497
Has anyone else experienced any of these symptoms?

I too have this sms lag on my lumia 800. i had this issue on both formwares : 12070 and 12072. I really fed up the no of bugs in this phone.
please guys post the following bug as well. following bug is present in 5 of my frnd's lumia 800 as well. XDA please make sure this new issue reaches NOKIA. So that they can do something about.
Even i have got this latest 12072 update but still dr is one more bug guess u have not noticed it. Can u please check and clarify with the following bug description.
1." Connect you nokia handsfree or any headphones to your lumia 800 and make a call and notice that u cannot adjust the volume. Volume remains high (max) always even if you reduce the volume to zero."
2."Connect your hands free or any head set to your lumia 800 play music and reduce the volume to 15 or less now make a call again you cannot adjust the volume of the call. now cut the call and now your music starts playing in max volume which you will not be able to reduce. Until you remove your hands free or headset and reinsert it.

  • Apple TV playback stuttering

I get stuttering and buffering on playback on Apple TV from my ipad.  I have upgraded my internet connection to highest I can go but still no better.
This problem started a couple of months ago.  I can watch live and recorded things on my ipad with no problem at all but as soon as I change to Apple TV it starts.
    Any ideas?

I would suggest you to reduce the MTU Setting on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
Leave the username blank & in password use admin in lower case...On the main setup tab select Manual and change the MTU size to 1400...Power cycle your router...
If the above fails, try downloading same movies from different websites and see if that helps...
If the above fails, you may try to upgrade your router's firmware, reset and re-configure the router...
