Stuttering Mouse Cursor During Network Usage

I just recently purchased an Intel Mac Mini, and have noticed an issue with my Apple Bluetooth Mouse. Whenever there is any network activity, the responsiveness is horrible, and the cursor keeps skipping and stuttering across the screen when I try to move the mouse.
I was previously using this mouse and keyboard on a Blue G3 with the D-Link USB adaptor, and never experiences any of these problems, so I know it is not the mouse or keyboard.

Hi, Byron and Al —
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you haven't already, you may be interested in reading through joelmcafee's Bluetooth: Not Available/intel macbook pro thread — though he hasn't posted a resolution yet.
A few questions that may engender ideas:
(a) Have you contacted AppleCare, either by phone — or, for Al, using the "Chat with a support agent" link on the iMac (Core Duo) support webpage? They may be able to help.
If the problem isn't solved during the conversation, you'll be given a case number for use at an Apple-Authorized Service Provider (AASP) — limited to authorized hardware problems) or for future reference. If the problem persists, your subsequent call(s) may be forwarded to higher-level support folks ("product specialists"). AppleCare Tech. Support is also one means that helps Apple to recognize widespread problems and focus their engineers on finding solutions — and they certainly need to know if the Bluetooth implementation in Intel-based Macs is awry in some way.
(b) Does "any network activity" reflect WiFi, a router, Bluetooth internet connection, or...? By "any" — I assume you mean any at all?
(c) Is the "activity" reflected in any of your system.log, console.log, ipfw.log, netinfo.log, etc. entries? Is there a ~resulting message about Bluetooth's "handshake," etc.?
(d) Are Bluetooth File Transfer / File Exchange enabled? Are any Bluetooth ports open?
(e) Have you done a careful review of potential 2.4 GHz RF interference? What other Bluetooth-enabled devices do you use?
(f) Does manipulating the mouse tracking/scrolling speed settings in System Preferences »» Keyboard & Mouse »» Mouse help at all?
Fyi, I've been experimenting with a 3rd-party mouse driver that's Bluetooth-compatible, named SteerMouse. So far, it seems to have excellent and stable mouse acceleration & speed controls... But that's probably tangential, since your description of the symptoms sounds related to signal, or connection, or — etc...
That's all for now. Please post back to discuss further — perhaps we can come up with something.
Warm regards,
Dean

  • No mouse cursor during Windows 8.1 OSD

    Hi,
    I have a problem that is bugging me. Not really a biggie but a frustrating one.
    When deploying Windows 8.1 using a MDT 2013 TS from CM12R2 the mouse cursor gets disabled when the OS reboots into minisetup/windows.
    As long as the TS is in WinPE all is fine, but once rebooted the cursor goes away and comes back only when the TS completes.
    The mouse is enabled as I can fool around with it and find where it is by clicking like a madman until a window gets highlighted.
    Deploying different DELL workstations/laptops, all with the same symptom.
    BR /T

    To my knowledge this is simply because of the Z-ordering of the windows during Windows setup.
    The question though is why does it matter? You shouldn't be doing anything interactive a this point in the TS.

  • Wireless Mighty Mouse Sputters During Network activity

    Has anyone figured this one out yet.
    I have a wireless mighty mouse that when you copy files to or from a computer off a network,
    it sputters and barely moves when trying to use it. If i plug in a usb mouse there is no problem at all.
    Was using a verizon wireless router and just bought an airport extreme. Guess what. Still does it. When I hard wire my computer to the router all works fine.
    I just cant think of what this could possibly be. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    There are a lot of people with this problem - mostly MacBook owners, but probably because they're more likely to have the wireless and BlueTooth running.
    I have the problem with a Logitech mouse on a Mac Mini -- cursor goes bonkers at random intervals, with terrible mouse lag, and I basically can't use the mouse when it's happening. It doesn't correlate with anything I can see in the Activity Monitor, but I can stop it if I turn off BOTH Airport and the router.
    Not likely to be RF interference with the signals, IMO, but some have reported that switching to an 802.11n router (or 802.11g with b compatibility disabled) solved the problem.

  • How to change mouse cursor during drag and drop

    Hi Guys,
    Iam performing a Drag and drop from Table1(on top of the figure) to Table2(down in the figure).
    see attached figure
    http://www.upload-images.net/imagen/e80060d9d3.jpg
    Have implemented the Drag and drop functionality using "Transferable" and "TransferHandler"using the java tutorial
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/examples/dnd/index.html#ExtendedDndDemo
    Now My problem is that ,I want to make the 1st column in Table2(ie: Column2-0) not to accept any drops so that the cursor appears like a "No-Drop" cursor but with selection on the column cell during a drop action.
    Also when I move my cursor between "column2-0" and "column2-1",want to to have the "No-Drop" and "Drop" cursor to appear depending on the column.
    How can I achieve it using the TransferHandle class.Dont want to go the AWT way of implementing all the source and target listeners on my own.
    Have overridded the "CanImort" as follows:
    public boolean canImport(JComponent c, DataFlavor[] flavors) {
         JTable table = (JTable)c;
    Point p = table.getMousePosition();
    /* if(p==null)
         return false;
    int selColIndex = table.columnAtPoint(p);
    if(selColIndex==0)
         return false;*/
    If I execute the above commented code,The "No-Drop" Icon appears in "column2-0",but no cell selection.Also If I move to "column2-1",which is the 1st column,Still get the "No-Drop" Icon there,also with no cell selection.
    for (int i = 0; i < flavors.length; i++) {
    if ((DataFlavor.stringFlavor.equals(flavors))) {
    return true;
    return false;
    Thanks in advance.....

    If you found the selection column based on the mouse pointer, then based on the column, you can set the cursor pointer as any one as below :
    setCursor(new Cursor(Cursor.DEFAULT_CURSOR));
    setCursor(new Cursor(Cursor.HAND_CURSOR));

  • Wireless mouse lagging during network activity

    Wondering if anyone can help me out here.
    Don't know when this started happening but whenever I am pulling a file from my network or someone on my network pulling from me, my wireless mouse lags and the pointer barely moves. Where do I even start to try to troubleshoot this problem?

    I downloaded USB Overdrive, which seems to have done the trick. It realigns the "mouse curve" with what Apple used on OS 9. Although you said only Might Mouse, you might have a flaky mouse if other mice seem to work.

    hi majorkong,
    It sounds like there's a possible short somewhere on the system.
    Try to do the following:
    1. Restart the computer in Safe Mode with Networking (continuously press F8 during boot-up).
    2. If all is well, perform a clean boot and observe.
    3. If same problem, open Network Connections (press Windows Key + R, then type ncpa.cpl)
    4. On the network connections, disable the Local Area Connection.(do a right click > disable)
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    5. After disabling the LAN, reboot into normal mode & try to use the Touchpad
    6. If the Touchpad responded without any issues, try to re-install both the Ethernet driver and then re-install theTouchpad driver

    Restarted KDE, rebooted pc, reinstalled KDE (everything), xorg, nvidia, deleted xorg.conf created new user but nothing will give me my desktop back
    once when i logged on, i had a kde crash report and messages on my widgets saying missing components. Tried to submit bug but missing debugging tools.
    sometimes KDE won't log in at all.
    forced an fsck on next boot with no errors found.
    please help

    Hi,
    Have you tried the suggestion Cyber_Defend_Team provided?
    If the issue persists, start the computer in Safe mode to check the result:
    If it doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes. If a recently installed program, device, or driver prevents Windows from running correctly, you can start your computer
    in safe mode and then remove the program that's causing the problem.
    If it still in the safe mode, we may need to repair the installation with the recovery media.
    In addition, please logon the problematic computer with the domain user account which works fine in other computer to test to see if it's the user account issue.

  • [SOLVED] Mouse cursor does not appear in Xorg

    Hi,
    I recently migrated from NetBSD to Arch, loving it so far, but I've run into a problem. Openbox has been running great for me so far, but now the cursor seems to have disappeared from Xorg. The last things I did were:
    echo 'tint2
    wicd-client' >> ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh
    I also set the following in /etc/rc.conf for wicd as instructed in the wiki:
    INTERFACES=(!eth0 !wlan0)
    I also added dbus wicd to my daemons array:
    DAEMONS=( ... dbus wicd ... )
    So now my daemons array looks like this:
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus wicd !network netfs crond sshd slim)
    I've tried reversing the above steps, but to no joy. I have noticed, however, that if I send a message to the display with xmessage, the cursor appears in the top left as the standard Xorg "X" mouse cursor and can be moved. However, right clicking or left clicking does not seem to interact with openbox as it should at this point.
    I did wonder if it was merely the cursor missing and the mouse was still actually performing actions, but if I right click I get no message from my window manager. System/Xorg information follows:

    And, of course, as soon as it isn't 3am, I realise that it is because I haven't run the programs in the background. Oh dear...

  • No mouse cursor in Airplay

         I have a few accounts on my Mac (Mavericks) that I use to train, operating my Mac with Airplay mirroring for demonstration.  While in my primary account, Airplay (AppleTV3) works fine.  Until recently it also worked fine while in my other accounts (all Admins).
         About a month ago, Airplay with the secondary accounts no longer shows the mouse cursor.  I can see the effects of the mouse (Dock magnifies, apps still open, etc.), but I can't see the actual cursor moving around the screen.  My primary account continues to show the cursor during Airplay.
        I created a new user account (Admin), and the new user account also is missing the cursor during Airplay.  Updated all software, restored the AppleTV.  Thought about rebuilding plists, but don't understand why a brand new user account would still have problems.
         Any ideas?
         Bill

    Any Solutions?
    I have the exact same issue.  My primary account has a cursor no problem.  I even went and bought a new AppleTV3 instead of my AppleTV2 and still same issue.

  • [LR 4.1 - Library] Minor but annoying bug with mouse cursor

    Hi,
    There is a minor but irritating bug with the mouse cursor in the Library module. Steps to reproduce:
    1. Activate the Library module.
    2. Move the mouse cursor into the image area. The mouse cursor looks like a magnifying glass.
    3. Move the mouse cursor to the left, until it reaches the right border of the left panel. The cursor becomes a double arrow indicating that you can modify the left panel width.
    4. Do not click and continue moving the cursor to the left : most of the time (but not always) the mouse cursor is not reset to a standard cursor when entering the left panel area. It is still displayed as a double arrow.
    5. Sometimes this also occurs when moving the mouse cursor directly from the image area to the left panel.
    This can also happen under other circumstances. However, this doesn't happen with the right panel or when using another module. Also, at some time during the session, the problem disappears... until the next session or until you return from another module.

    I agree, although it sounds trivial, it is very irratating - especially when doing a lot of keywording.
    You could add your vote to a previously raised bug report on this ...

  • My mini loses the mouse cursor when it goes to sleep

    Since I upgraded to OS X 10.7, my MAC mini loses the mouse curson when it goes to sleep. I am able to use the mouse to "awaken" the system and get the home screen, but the system will not display the mouse cursor. The only thing thast will recover the mouse cursor is to reboot the syste,.

    going to sleep means disabling the network connection to save power
    so what you're asking is not really possible
    unless you can change what going to sleep mean on your computer
    in the power saving settings you may be able to set going to sleep to just turn off your monitor
    because thats pretty much the only thing that can go to sleep if you still wish to use it over wifi

  • GNOME3: Ugly mouse cursors

    Hi everyone!
    I have a small issue with my Gnome3 desktop: It uses the default (ugly) X mouse cursors.
    Am I missing some package or setting?
    Edit: It's even more weird because it may suddenly change to the correct cursors during a session until i logout.

    I have found a lot of customisation options which normally have a corresponding ~/.xxx folder for user specific config (eg /usr/share/themes, /usr/share/icons etc.) are not currently working in Gnome 3 by default. I am sure it is the $XDG_DATA_DIRS (or similar) environment variables not being set to look in /home first (I am sure this will be corrected as Gnome 3 matures and the devs add user config options).
    I have found my cursors work correcty (in all but firefox) (using custom Silver-3D cursors). One thing that may help (it has helped solve my "some windows use my cursors and some don't" issue)
    in /usr/share/icons create a folder called default. In that folder, create a file called index.theme and populate as follows:
    [Icon Theme]
    Inherits=xxxxxxx
    Where xxxxxx is the name of your theme of choice. The added bonus of doing this is that GDM will use your selected cursor theme as well.
    GDM is actually what I have been working on theming today. I have customised the background, cursors, icons, sound theme (I'll admit it, I like a system-ready sound when GDM comes up) and GTK3 themes for it. Now I just have to translate that to my shell.
    Cheers.

  • Mouse cursor in Indesign CC

    Hello, I have a problems with using mouse in Indesign CC. I am using Indesign many years ago (CS1, 2 etc.) but I never hit this problem before. When I pres ctrl+space for zoom via mouse, the cursor always disappeared, so I can't select the place for zooming. Next problem is when I printing document. I am using always print to pdf (2400DPI/350lpi/CMYK) and during print, the mouse pointer is very, but very slowly. I am using three monitors and move cursor from left to right can takes aprox. 2-3 seconds. And last problem. When I can select whole paragraph by 3x mouse click, nothing happened for first try. Then if I move mouse cursor for some pixels on the screen, all works. Do you see the same problems? I am using PC (i7 processor, 16GB of memory), Indesign CC 64bit (czech language), so I don't expect any problem with PC performance. Indesign cs6 which I am using in parallel doesn't have any problem with mouse cursor. Thx for any idea how to solve it... Ilja
