Stuttering music

Just installed update 5.1 and music started stuttering. Interestingly it stutters terribly if access my computer iTunes library. If I go to the computer and stream music over AirPlay, no stuttering.
Could it be a firewall or port problem? Can't seem to understand why I can send music to Apple TV without problems but when apple TV  is asking for music from the computer it stutters constantly.
iTunes is running on a win7 x64 machine that is quite fast.
All systems are up to date.

On a Windows PC, actually, NO. Windows invokes an inordinate amount of buffering for music files, causing the "stutter" effect (hey, it's a feature not a bug!). Now, on a Mac, this is avoided by the way Macintosh OS X manages application memory space (very UNIX-like, since OS X rides on top of BSD UNIX).
Adding RAM may help somewhat (if your not already maxed out), but will not totally cure this particular ill.
Buy a Mac.

  • Skipping/Stuttering Music in Library

    Hey,
Recently whenever I play any song from my iTunes library from my computer, every 5-10 seconds the song skips/stutters, which becomes very annoying over the course of the song. I don't understand why this is happening. Is there anything I can do to correct this?
    Thanks

Same thing for me with iTunes 7.x. This problem doesn't appears with version 6.
At every 10 secs itunes scrowls the artist name / album name and cause 70% cpu usage !! about 14 seconds after the begining of a new song the cpu goes to 100%. If the two things happens at the same time ... the sound scratch about 2-3 secs.
    Solution ? Go back to version 6 ? wait for 7.4; 7.5 version ?
Somebody knows what to do ? Help !!
    Sorry for my english ...

  • 3 days of stuttering music (thanks v12) and finally have v11 installed again

recent auto-upgrade to v12.0.1.26 was a horrible failure leading to days of uninstalling/deleting in specific orders. Over and over and over.
finally have v11.4.0.18 installed and operating properly
in the end, is XP going to be left in the dust when drivers are no longer updatable?

  • Creative Zen has stuttering music, syncs slowly at around 20%

Hi, I received a never used Creative Zen M Series 30 GB Mp3 player from my friend, and I'm having a few problems with it.
It seems to sync perfectly fine up until around 20% then each song takes several seconds (or even a minute) to sync, and at around 30% it even froze. Even worse, the player tends to stutter and skip over a few songs.
I upgraded the firmware but that didn't do anything...am I looking at defected parts?

Humm, i think you should power up your Zen and wait for it to become useable, then make backup's of all of your MP3's to your PC. I do this on a regular basis and ,92 tracks takes around 30 min to back up. A good idea is to "cleen up" the libary which can be acessed from recovery mode. Then wait for the proccdure to complete and reset the player. If the player still has a problem you may have to format it, but try this befor doing so. In settings on the main menu, select owner and type in your name that you may have used before. once you have set your name, switch off the player and then turn it back on. You might be suprised to find that all of your MP3's are back. Unfortunatly, if this advise is no help then your only hope is to reformat the Harddisk, then if the problem persists try reloding the firmware or update it (if possible)

  • Cannot see music playlists when trying to update ipod

hello, i've had lots of problems with itunes 7, stuttering music, lock ups etc.- wish i hadn't upgraded!
latest issue is when eventually i updated ipod to 1.2 software and tried to update it i can see playlists for movies and podcasts but not for music.
any ideas how to solve please.
i thinks its bad that apple haven't posted at least a note saying they'll look into these issues

    hello again,
i know i can use the black arrow to view playlists on my ipod, but there arn't any - i did a restore on this ipod and so it hasn't got any playlists on it now, and i want to get them back on, i only did the restore because i was having the same problem when i upgraded to 1.2 as i'm having now and i hoped restore might solve it but it didn't!
to get playlists back on the ipod i was hoping to open up the music tab on the large ipod menu and select various playlists from the list inside the rectangle as i used to on itunes 6 and the ones before, but the playlists don't show up for me to select to copy to my ipod, the playlists are still in itunes and i can play them on the computer albeit with bad sound quality since upgrade.
i can see playlists under the movies and podcast tabs and i can copy these to ipod but no music playlists.
as i've said i can copy playlist the long way by dragging the playlist from the grey list on the side of the screen and dropping them on the ipod under devices but this will take days
    thanks

  • Audio playback stuttering/skipping randomly itunes 10.1 mac 10.6.5

Having issues with playback on my mac since installing 10.1.
It seems to glitch a track randomly and skips a second of song or something.
7% of my CPU is in use and ive got nearly 4gig of ram free. itunes library is about 32 gig bit its never been an issue before.
Is this a known issue in 10.1 itunes?

the forums are full of discussions about this issue.today i suddenly had the same problem.stuttering music.i tried the following to solve the problem, and so far it seems to work for me:throw out all the music from your itunes player, but keep the files in the library.re-import the music you want to listen to from the library now,and see if it solves the problem for you, too.

  • N80 and Serious Video problems

I am so not impressed with the Nokia N80 Video Function.
I am having major problems in playing 95% of my videos from my old K750 which plays them with out problems.
Real player opens. Then stops for s few seconds starts again plays about 4 seconds, stops and starts again.
It doesnt matter much on the videos.
Its like the phone cant handle them or real player has a major problem.
The 4 second dealy or the major problems is when i use the memory card.
The phone still cant handle the video correctly when on the phone memory, The video stutters, Musics goes of and on.
This is such a let down in other wise a great phone.
I just cant beleive that my K700, K750 and K600 can play all the vids with out probs.

    Yes same here.
The stutters are dreadful and sound keeps going of and on.
This is a Smart phone, But so far my K700 which is over 2 years old is smarter.
I just dont understand why, Nokia if you are reading this then please fix in your next firmware, Real Player is either Rubbish or the phone some how cant transfer the data / details over fast enough.
On some occasions opening up a video can take the phone over a 1min which i then think the phone has crashed.
Its like my computer when running more than 1 programme at a time, They start to stutter.

  • Little confused by Syncing and Streaming

I got my Apple TV yesterday. Everything appeared fine when I set it up. Except when I tried to play music, it was "skipping" and sounded kind of weird. I assumed it was because the Apple TV was syncing. So, I left it alone overnight expecting to find this morning the 40 GB drive would be full and it would be ready to go.
What I'm finding instead is that my pictures and music are not syncing over, even though I've got iTunes set to sync everything (all pictures and all music). I have about 4X what would fit on the 40 GB Apple TV. But, I thought it would sync what it could. Is that not the case? I keep changing settings on syncing. But, no matter what I do, the drive never gets anywhere near full. I get messages saying certain songs/playlists won't be synced because there's not enough room on the drive. But, I thought the drive would still fill up.
Lastly, since I can't get all my music and pictures on the AppleTV at once, should I sync photos first and assume the music will always just stream?
    Thanks,
    Brian

The fact that the drive isn't that full may suggest a network issue as overnight it would hopefully have synced as much as it could. How are you connected?
Stuttering music sounds more like it was playing using streaming and cutting out.
I too have more than will fit on a 40GB machine.
The one thing you should sync is photos you need on there - streaming can only deliver the same ones which is odd.
Just in case it needs clarification:
    - under Sources the AppleTV option means to play what is synced to the device
    - the other entries are streaming iTunes libraries
    This isn't always obvious!
You can select individual movies/TV shows to sync and I assume you've disabled that. For music it's all, nothing or selected playlists - it could be that your music library is too big and it's confusing AppleTV trying to work out what to sync and what to leave out - I don't know how this works, but when my music library grew, every time it resyncs there are warnings some things are left off.
Try creating a playlist say 'AppleTV playlist' and drag and drop music into that and just sync that leaving out things you'd not listen to often and be content to stream.

  • 4.3 Upgrade S Voice Issues

With the 4.3 upgrade, the SVoice recognition and audibility is terrible. The previous voice was pleasant sounding and very understandable, but the new voice sounds nasally and is difficult to understand. It also does not recognize my commands as well, and often replies that it can't find a network connection. Is there a way to get the previous SVoice back? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I'm also having this along with many other issues brought on by the 4.3 update. Unfortunately, there are no announcments for a fix to these issues. There are many frustrated users out there experiencing much worse (including myself). See below for a short list of 4.3 issues:
Major issues in new Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S III:-
    - Wake up lag (Sometimes it takes a few seconds to wake the device from standby and sometimes a few minutes)
    - Random Freezing
    - Huge battery drain
    - Bluetooth Audio issues during playback in car
    - Stuttering music playback with stock Samsung music app
    - Device freezes as soon a call is received (Black screen issue)
    - Poor RAM management (very difficult to multitask)
    - Wi-Fi issues

  • IPad cuts out and stutters on AirPlay music but iPhone does not?!

Hi folks, hope you can help with this problem, it's a little weird.
I bought an Apple TV a few days ago and have been enjoying streaming music from my apple devices onto the hifi system connected to the TV.  It works great except for one particular use-case, which is really frustrating.  Basically, I can do everything from the Apple TV, stream HD content, Netflix etc. all good.  From my iPhone I can do everything over AirPlay, stream music from iTunes, from Spotify, stream high quality video from YouTube or off the device itself, all works perfectly.
On my iPad 2 however everything works EXCEPT streaming music, it's bizarre.  I can stream a high def video from YouTube onto the iPad and AirPlay it over to the ATV and it never misses a beat.  I can mirror my screen onto the TV and stream games like Real Racing HD with no issues or lag whatsoever.  However when I try to stream music either from iTunes or Spotify from the iPad it stutters (cuts out) every 30 seconds or so, making the music intolerable.
The weirdest thing is that I can queue up the same track on my iPhone 4s and on the iPad 2, play it from the iPhone and it works perfectly, pause that, play from the iPad and it's a complete mess.  Similarly, when music is stuttering and cutting out on the iPad, I can switch directly to the YouTube, or BBC iPlayer app and stream high def video over AirPlay with no sound or video problems, then switch back to the music - back come the cut outs. It's driving me mad, I want the iPad to be the device everyone uses to play music from, especially for parties, but at the moment I have to get my phone out every time.
So it's not a bandwidth problem or a wifi signal problem (because video over airplay is fine) and it only affects music and it only affects the iPad.
    Any ideas?!?!
I should state that all the iOS devices have the latest apple software and I have already tried resetting the iPad, the ATV, my wifi router etc. etc.

    "Sonos" your Airplay
    Hi,
This observation elicited a Eureka moment. After months of problems with our airplay I had worked through almost every suggestion on the net to little or no avail.
As a result of this post I reconfigured one of our access points as a dedicated airplay network. Brilliant. We have now had 2 weeks of perfect airplay.
If you are reading this, you are probably fairly tech savvy. You therefore probably have an old router in the garage, shed or attic.
Get it out, dust it off and connect it to your network as an access point (Ethernet cable and a good internet search on your router). Set it up on an empty wireless channel as "*****airplay" or whatever suits you and connect the airplay clients (airport express, Apple TV, airplay speakers etc.) to that. Keep everything else on the original wireless network.
Interestingly, this is how Sonos have approached the wireless music solution.
This has worked brilliantly for us, I hope this helps others in a similar predicament.
    Uncle Duck
Ps - This is a good work around, but , come on apple - it shouldn't need a degree in engineering
    System
Variety of IOS devices-  phones, ipods,iPads, MacBooks et al.
2 access point - main router ((virgin media Superhub (aka Netgear)), separate access point, Netgear WNDR4500
    Laptops,desktop, printers etc
2 airport express, 1 apple tv

  • ITunes 10.6.3 (25) & ML 10.8.1--moving music in playlist stuttering

    Good Morning,
    I'm running Mountain Lion on 7 different machines. Our workhorses are our iMacs...2--2011 core i5 (2.7GHz/12GB RAM/1TB HDD) and 2--2010, I believe core i3 (3.2GHz/12GB RAM/1TB HDD). As well, we have 2 17" MBPs (2011 Core i7 2.5GHz/8GB RAM) and a 2012 15" Retina MBP.
All of them, EVERY single one of them is stuttering while moving tracks within playlists.  If my playlist is longer than the actual 'Windowed' area of iTunes...and I attempt to move the track 'up' the list---it's not smooth any more (as it was in Lion, SL, Leopard, et al)....in the past OS'es...if you click, hold and move a track 'up' the playlist....got it near the top, it would start smoothly 'moving' the list up while you looked for your drop zone:)  Hope this makes sense, because it's really, REALLY annoying. We use these computers for our mobile entertainment business. We've done 112 weddings so far this summer with another couple dozen to go before the end of October.  We're very, very busy---and these iMacs are incredibly convenient for holding our entire 'audio' library.  With over 20,000 sound EFX, drops, beds, bumpers---well over 55,000 actual songs (plenty of redundancy with extra mixes for specific tracks, etc)....the ability (when I purchased them) to have a TB installed vs the choices on the laptops...as well as the size (for reading), wireless mice and keyboard...they look very professional and work well with Serato and Traktor, our sources of choice.
However, playing background/cocktail/dinner music---nothing works better than iTunes. This issue has never been a problem before. Now it's nearly impossible to move a track within a playlist unless your playlist is only a 'window' long---depending on the resolution and size you've got your iTunes window, this can be anywhere from 30-50 songs (that are visible).  For now, as we've got plenty of playlists that are 100-300 songs in length. I'm now just moving a track 30 spots up, scrolling the playlist back up another 30/40 spots...moving the track to the top....scrolling up, moving track, yada yada. Or copy/paste has actually become my go to solution---for now. However, this, obviously...adds redundant tracks to the playlist (unless I delete tune after copying). It's truly a PITA...and it's bizarre I've not heard or read anyone else complaining of this issue.
I probably shouldn't have upgraded all my machines to ML right off the bat---but I had NO problems with Lion. Loved it! The gestures are awesome...the Track Pad has become my best friend---and I didn't read any compatiblity issues with any of the hardware we use.  Still---to this point, I've had no other 'challenges' with Mountain Lion on any of my machines.
I figure---since this behavior is evident on ALL my machines, which are relatively recent builds hardware-wise...ALL with plenty of RAM for these applications, it must be a system-wide behavior. I also kinda hoped it would be silently 'fixed' with today's maintenance update....Not a chance. Behavior is still exactly the same (after updating 3 of the iMacs and two of the MBPs)...so it hasn't been addressed. I've not yet filed a 'ticket' with Apple, haven't called the help desk---never have. In fact, I think this is the first challenge I've not been able to find myself a workaround for...so I've rarely a reason to visit a genius, call Apple, or utilize this board.
Is anyone else in front of an iTunes library with playlists that may have more than 60 or 70 tracks in it that would be willing to give it a go? Again...simply moving a track up in the playlist from the bottom to the top (the playlist MUST be longer than what is visible in the screen).
Second---I know this is getting WAY too long...but the BIG issue here is if you try to move a song that is currently playing 'up the playlist'...it actually freezes iTunes for several seconds---maybe even 8 or 10 seconds!!! It still continues to play the song, without any glitches....but it is absolutely impossible move a 'playing' track up or down the playlist without really F'ing up the computer for a brief period of time!!! This is a real pain and I'm not sure what the correct way to tell Apple about it would be. Do they monitor this board? Is there a specific place to address this on apple.com
Thanks everyone for reading this diatribe!! I know it got a bit long--Sorry!
    Jeremy

Is there anyone that can verify they're having this same issue? I called Apple to report the 'glitch' but I'm looking for any others with the same challenge and whether or not you've found a work around.
Again--I rely heavily on iTunes for business. We use it constantly for live performances...both on it's own and it's integration with Traktor, Serato and DJay
    Thanks Everyone!
    Jeremy

  • Video and sound stutters in imovie project, made up entirely of stills with voice-over and music. I'm using iMovie 9.0.4 on a PowerBook 2GHz running 10.6.8 with 274 GB of space free. Size of project is 588 Gb.

  • ITunes 10.5 randomly stutters when playing music

Installed iTunes 10.5 last week to get new iOS for iPhone. I have a HP Pavillion notebook running WIndows 7 and have had no problem with iTunes before at all. Now, however, when I am playing music on iTunes little electronic glitches and stutters are audible. They are random and seem to affect both mp3 and aac. Nothing else on my computer has changed aside from the itunes update. VLC media player still seems to be fine.
I see some people are having distortion issues with the new iTunes, but this is more just a little distorted stutter for half a second or so every once or twice a minute.
Can I fix this, or will I have to wait for the next update of iTunes? Any help with this would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hi Denis,
I managed to fix a similar issue on Mac OS X:
"I am running 10.5.8 on an iMac 27 with a 2.66GHz i5 processor and got the same side-effects after I moved up to iTunes 10.5. Th e problem also continued when I downgraded to 10.4.1 as well, straight afterwards. However, I managed to resolve it fairly quickly in this way:
Opened the  Activity Monitor, and looked at the processes taking most resources.
The one that leapt out at the top, if ordered by % CPU, was "ShockWave Flash (Chrome Plug-in Host)".
So, I closed down Chrome and noted that it was still there. Thus, I sent a force quit to it and waited for it to die. I then re-opened iTunes and the annoying stuttering had gone. I've now got Chrome and this plug-in open and it has not returned. I suspect the issue may frequently be caused by a plug-in like this causing resource contention, but I can't say for sure as I've only seen this once.
My advice would be to close down, one by one,  as many apps as you can and constantly review activity ordered by CPU in Activity Monitor. If you think you can safely quit the process then do so and retry iTunes. If you're not sure, then gracefully shutdown and look again. Bear in mind, the problem may be launching at startup. Before shutting down, review your Login Items in System Prefs->Accounts->"My Account"->Login Items. Remove anything you can live without. You can always add them back in. If you manage to spot conflicting software then you can look for a patch or upgrade, but at least be aware that it does not play well with iTunes and thus quickly fix your issue."
May be you can follow a similar process on Windows? I would target your suspicions towards Adobe and Google components :-) !!!
    Hope this helps.

  • Iphone Music player skips and stutters with MP3s

With the upgrade to iOS 5 (and 5.0.1) on my iPhone 3GS (32GB) I began to notice skips and stutters on numerous MP3s about 10 to 30 seconds into the song. I don't remember having any problems prior to iOS5 upgrade.
The skips and stutters are somewhat reproducible in that, if I hear the skip or stutter, if I go back to the beginning of the song and play the song again, the skip or stutter will happen in approximately the same spot and will be of approximately the same nature (a repeated phrase or a jump or a distortion) but it isn't exactly the same.
Most of my songs are 256kbps VBR MP3s ripped either by iTunes from my own CDs or purchased from Amazon.
The facts (1) that the skip/stutter/or distortion is not exactly the same each time (2) the skips and stutters seem localized to the first 10 to 30 seconds of the song, then they play fine afterward, (3) that I don't have problems playing these songs under iTunes on my MacBook pro, and (4) it happens both with iTunes ripped MP3s and Amazon MP3s, would seem to be some form of OS problem rather than coding error. My guess would be some form of buffering issue or OS scheduling issue.
Has anyone else noticed these problems?

I experienced the same problem with my Iphone 5 skipping and not playing the music in my library correctly. I called apple and they gave me a solution that worked so far.
The problem in my case was created by restoring the new phone from icloud. Apparently, if you have a lot of music or data, the music files don't completely download.
Of course, make sure your music is backed up before starting
Solution: connect iphone to itunes / select the music tab / uncheck sync music altogether / hit apply or sync (this should remove all music files from your phone) / when completed, re-check the sync entire music library or select your custom playlists-songs you want on your phone / then click apply or sync to put back all music on phone.
    This should solve your problems

  • AppleTV, iPad, Music, AirPlay & Wifi: Same Access Point? Stuttering. Different Access Points? Just Fine!

I saw some discussions that seemed somewhat like what I have experienced, but thought I'd post this separately just in case.
I have three AppleTV units. Two are wired, and one uses WiFi. The two wired ones work just fine, but using AirPlay for music was terrible for the WiFi one. It would play about a half second of music, then stop, then another half second, and so on, so it seemed to be stuttering and was unusable for that. It was strange that video and its associated audio worked just fine for me!
I did stumble onto something that helped me, but it might not be applicable to all.
I have a Cisco Dual-Band router. It shows as 2 access points/SSIDs - one on 2.4GHz and one on 5GHz. If the WiFi AppleTV and my iPad are on the SAME access point, I get the audio stuttering. If I switch so one is on the 2.4GHz and one is on the 5GHz, AirPlay music works great. It doesn't matter which is on which, but if both are on the same one, I get music stuttering.
I plan on switching one or the other of the wired units to use WiFi for a test to see if they all exhibit this behavior, but the behavior was reliable on the one AppleTV I use via WiFi.
I was actually going to switch from the 5GHz AP to the 2.4GHz AP for both to see if it worked differently, and happened to test when one was on each, then followed it up with tests for all 4 of the configurations (2.4-2.4, 2.4-5, 5-2.4, 5-5).
If you aren't using a dual-band router, I don't know if there is any way to take advantage of what I see in my configuration, but I thought I'd share the information in case it does provide some options.

Airplay uses ethernet / ip broadcast. This only works on the same ip subnet. A router typically connects different subnets. Hence being in one subnet you won't get the broadcast packets and won't see the advertised "airplay" services of the apple TV. You should make both "sides" (in your diagram) of the router into one subnet. That might involve connecting everyting to an ethernet switch.
