Stuttering or jerkiness on motion

Hi, new to this forum.
I've got a project that has two main programs so I cleaned them in Cleaner first. when I play the pieces in simulator they look clean but when I burn a disc a lot of the movement has a jerky motion to it which is not fun to watch. I'm using DVD studio pro 2.
This is a family memorial that will be passed on to future generations so I am pretty motivated to have it be clean.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mr. Boo

Hi, thanks for your interest.
there are two videos on this DVD and a static menu with two button options.
One video is one hour, sixteen minutes.
The second video is twenty three minutes.
I'm not sure I understand the target question.
How do I look up the bit rate? It's probably whatever the default is. Are you asking me to look in Cleaner6 or in SP2? Again, when I play an asset in SP2 it looks clean, before burning.
I bought my DVDs, supposedly high quality, from a tape stock distributor. on the package it says TYDVDGP8T50
I am not using papaer labels.
thanks again.

  • Jerky Slow Motion with FCE

    Hi,
I have final cut express 4, and I'm making a movie, part of it is pictures, and the other part video. I decided to make the pictures HD because they look better, but my video is SD. However, when I make a master sequence of my pictures and video sequences, slow motion in my SD video looks interlaced and jerky. I got rid of the interlace with the De-interlace filter, but I can't get rid of the jerky slow motion. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Actually, what I did was I put the HD pictures into a non-HD master timeline, which is basically what iDVD would do anyway, and the pictures looked better than if I made them in SD, and that way, my slow motion looked fine.

  • Jerky keyframe motion

Keyframed motion of images is jumpy/jittery, not smooth like it was in FCP HD.
Does anyone else have this problem? Any fixes out there?

    Thanks for the replys, guys.
Just to explain...the jittery motion is not a radical move. It's more of a shudder of a few pixels throughout the motion. It's not a radical jerking of the motion, but it is sure enough to where it is obviously not the smooth keyframed motion I'm used to. I had perfectly smooth motion on this system when I had FCPHD installed...this has only started with 5.
Upgraded to FCP5 about 2 months ago.
The motion is jittery before and after rendering. I read on another post that you can remove the Crop and Distort attributes to fix this. After these were removed, the pre-render motion was smooth, but after rendering the jitter was back.
    What do you think?

  • Intermittently jerky tween motion

I have a relatively small swf (95 KB) that demonstrates a
problem that really bugs me. The swf, written in as3, shows an
animation of a bird flying. I use a scripted tween to move a
25x25px flapping bird image from one end of a 900px-wide stage to
the other in about 6 or 7 seconds, and there's MP3 audio that plays
along with the motion. Sometimes the bird "flies" smoothly, but
usually there are glitches in the movement--brief pauses and skips.
If I bypass the sound.play() command, the motion is more
    consistently smooth, but not always.
I've done everything that I know to optimize this animation.
Rather than constantly load images to the stage and remove them to
achieve the flapping motion, I'm using a single PNG file that
contains each of the animation frames. I load it to the stage once,
mask it, and change it's x property to show each frame. I also
tried decreasing the audio resolution to 16 kbps. None of this
    guarantees smooth motion.
I'm tempted to think that this might be due to the
simultaneous running of motion and sound. But the following swf
    never seems to glitch:
    http://smallsjazzclub.com/.
it has lot's of high-quality audio and lots of motion. The figure
that I pay particular attention to is the bass player, who always
moves smoothly from one end of the stage to the other. Then, I
switch tabs in my browser and replay my swf, and it glitches.
There must be ways of optimizing Flash animations that I'm
missing. Could this be due to a problem with the way the swf is
    compiling?

Personally I would make either a swf of just the bird and
then load that, or I would make a movieClip of the bird animation
    and then load that.

  • ITunes skips, stutters, jerky when I minimze

Okay here is the deal. I use to have iTunes 4.9 and it worked fine. When I went to update my iTunes to 6.0 it messed up my computer big time. So I uninstalled 6.0 and installed 4.9. That didn't work. I couldn't go back to the way it was. The problem is when iTunes is open and I try to play music it play fine. However when I go to minimize the program it starts to skip, stutters, plays jerky whatever, it doesn't play like it did on 4.9. It also bogs down my computer. I have over a gig or RAM. So I went to try my other audio player music match and the problem is even worse. I never had this problem before I installed iTunes 6.0. My mouse now disappears randomly when I have too many programs open and iTunes is not open. What ever iTunes did is conflicting with my other programs even when I restart and never open up iTunes.
I am running windows XP home edition SP2.
System Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz
    DirectX version: 9.0 or better
Graphics Card Processor: GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
    Video BIOS version 4.28.20.05.02
    ForceWare version: 81.85
I have Safe mode (waveOut only) checked in QuickTime 7.0.3.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing has change. If anything things got worse. My mouse is even jerky at times.

    hi Michael!
hmmmm. let's try running your XP "Input Devices" troubleshooter. easiest way to find it is to do a Help and Support Search on "list of troubleshooters", and scroll down the list until you see the relevant link.

2 days ago my FF3.6.3 started becoming extremely slow/delayed on EVERYTHING/ALL ACTIONS (I have been using 3.6.3 for a few months with NO problems, until 2 days ago). Scrolling going in delayed/slow/jerky 'waves' motion (not smooth & fast), Right-click box very delayed/hangs in coming up, Text typing lagging/intermittent, activity extremely slow/delayed when pointing mouse over anything, changing from tab to tap extremely slow. Bascially EVERYTHING has become sooo slow, delayed, lagging etc. I have tried ALL possible checks (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins, download history, cache, cookies) & viewed nearly ALL the FF help sites. Is this a sudden/recent bug?? It doesnt only happen with Facebook, but EVERY window I open!!

I've personally not seen this behaviour since Firefox version 2. It however re-appeared for me in 3.6.6 and 3.6.7 (current) and it's bloody awful. Makes everything I do take 50% longer ..... great for efficiency in the modern world.
This 3.6 branch is so riddle with flaws which seem never to be fixed. Each fix / update brings with it more problems ... worst of all I see version 4 is already in development but they cannot even get 3.6 right ??? WTF ????
Mozilla must stop chasing version numbers as has become the trend in the software world. Fix an existing version to perfection then start working on a new branch of the product.

  • Stuttering playback after export

    Hi,
Sorry if such a question has been answered elsewhere but I have looked around for the past few hours and been unable to find an answer. However I am new to Adobe Premiere Pro (and video editing in general really) so perhaps I am missing something fundamental.
My basic problem is that I have created a video which plays fine in the Premiere preview (I have CS4) but after exporting it, the video becomes very stuttering and jerky. To be honest I'm a bit unsure of a lot of the technical terms etc but i'll try to provide all the info that may be of use.
I own a Sony HDR SR10E camera and so my orignal video files are shot (to my knowledge) in 1080i 1920x1080 25fps PAL AVCHD ... (I've probably repeated myself there or something). I am trying to put the video on youtube/vimeo and so have read to try to encode using the H.264 codec, at 1280x720, 25fps, trying to deinterlace it (didn't entirely understand what that meant but read that if you choose "None(Progressive)" under "Field Set" AME would automatically do it. I've tried a number of variations of the settings but every time after it has finished its very jerky etc.
I did try exporting it as a f4v file and the jerkiness had gone but i'm not sure if you can use this format to upload to youtube/vimeo etc, and anyway I don't understand why the h.264 codec is causing this problem when it all plays fine in premiere itself.
If any more info is needed, please say. I'm sorry if i'm making some massive error but although i've spent the last 8 hours trying to understand all the technological terms and sort it out myself I haven't been able to and any help is very much appreciated!

i have the exact same problem... i used all the same settings as I did in CS3 but the h.264 output is ALWAYS choppy. I even used the program "gspot" to make sure all the settings were EXACTLY the same, and they were... but anything output in cs4/adbone encoder comes out choppy. It's not a framerate issue, it's not a problem with the source files (projects in cs3 work just fine).
I am so frustrated at this, mainly because I can't open my CS4 files in CS3 and I *need* to encode in h.264. Output to other formats like WMV work fine, but unfortunately the place i upload my videos rejects the files i upload, even though they look OK on my computer.
very frustrating, I have no idea what to do. I've tried everything in project settings as well as encoder settings but the problem still exists. All my old movies, encoded in CS3, all playback flawlessly. Again, every single setting is the same, and I have applied the Premiere update, as well as the encoder update without any luck.

  • New Mac Pro (Late 2013) and Motion

Although Final Cut Pro is optimized for the new Mac Pro (Late 2013), the current Motion 5.1 apparently is not.  Even when turning the render settings down, the playback of a complex motion sequence within Motion was extremely choppy.  When exporting to a ProRes file, only four to six of the available 12 threads ony my 6-core system were being only partially utilized.   I have 64 GB RAM and dual D700s with nothing else running, so system resources are plentiful.  Any suggestions out there?  Hopefully there will be an update to bring it up to speed.

The sequence I am rendering in Motion is definately complicated, with about 100 differencet images on a moving wall with reflections and multiple other effects.  This definitely pushes the system alot but I was able to use the same sequence on a very old Mac Pro (2006) and a i7 Hackintosh with an Apple 5870 card overclocked to 4 GHz without this severe stuttering on playback within Motion.  There is no shortage of memory on the new Mac Pro with 64 GB RAM and D700s with 6 GB VRAM, running all files on the main internal SSD.  Very strange.

  • FAQ: Why is playback stuttering when I preview within Premiere Pro?

Stuttering or jerky playback is very often caused by the inability of your computer system and/or Premiere Pro to render and play frames as quickly as necessary for realtime playback.
Causes vary, including such factors as inadequate hard disk speed, inadequate CPU speed, and other software interfering with playback.
For information about optimizing your computer and Premiere Pro for performance, as well as finding performance bottlenecks, see this page:
"optimizing for performance: Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects"
Stuttering or jerky playback can also occur when a sequence's settings aren't correct for the kind of footage playing in it. See this page for more information:

  • Slow motion export..

So I just got motion and I created a 1080i60 HDV project and imported my clip (4 seconds). I slowed it to 25 percent speed and used optical flow. once it finished I exported it as HDV1080i60 and tried to play it in quicktime (because it was uber jerky in Motion to the point where I couldn't enjoy even a small portion of the clip.) it playedback just as jerky in quicktime and it also played back in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
I brought it into FCP and it seemed the proper aspect. so I tried to export again and it went back to 4:3.
is there a particular thing I'm not doing?

In your EXPORT Settings, make sure your field dominance is set to none. and tick the anamorphic option. If you already did that then when watching in QT: "press Apple J" and under "presentation tick "encoded or clean"
Other that that welcome to the world of HDV!

  • Timelapse frame DPI resolution. Clips are jerky.

    Hello.
I am producing 10 second (ish) long timelpase clips. I import 300 odd 1920x1080 still images.
Project is set to 30fps (or 25, depending). Set to 1 frame for still images.
I am producing the still images on a DSLR, and resizing them in Canon Photo professional. I have the option of a DPI for each individual still.
Does anyone know what DPI is required for viewing crisp images on a HDTV? The default is 350. i have raised this to 1200 as 350 seems low.
The resulting clips have a slight jerky feel to them, the motion is not smooth. I am wondering if this is due to the DPI setting.
The finished clips size is roughly 50MB.
i am saving the clips in PE as AVCHD/MP4-H268 1920x1080p 25
    Thanks for any assistance.
EDIT, here is an example https://vimeo.com/84488936
EDIT02. Also in Canon Photo Professional i have the option to tick "embed ICC profile". What does this mean?

    cappedup
Thanks for the update. Sorry the news is not better.
This 25 frames per second that seems like half that...am I correct that this is for the playback of the
MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p25 export of the Timeline, not what you are seeing in the Edit Mode monitor when you are viewing playback of the rendered Timeline before export?
Do you see this slightly jerky video motion to which you refer in the Time Lapse before and after export?
What is the actual duration of your export of 300 jpg each with a duration of 1 frame?
I do not recall that I asked or your said, is this playback matter restricted to this particular batch of 300 jpg images or do you run into this problem with all your Time Lapse video projects?
I have gotten excellent results for Time Lapse video Premiere Elements projects so I am reluctant to characterize the experience as
Old school animation VS new age tech. Rhubarb and Custard Vs Toy Story!
And, if there were a glitch in the process, I would not dismiss anything as irrelevent, as I systematically  ruled in or out possible causes for the glitch.
We could get into how the photos were introduced to the Timeline, possibities for slivers which at the Timeline level of 1 frame would be hard to detect if you had set for 1 frame per second in the preferences beforehand, and so on.
We will be watching for further developments when you have time.
Thank you for the follow ups.

  • Slow performance on LG Ally

When I attempt to play games on my LG Ally - particularly any version of Angry Birds - the performance is extremely slow.  the screen does not respond to touch and the movement is stuttered or jerky at best.  I've attempted to restart, make sure no other applications were running and yet nothing improves the performance.  Any help is appreciated.

  • How can I make the start and end of a move smooth?

In Premiere Elements 11 I often have zooms or pans which I want to begin gradually, then speed up slightly and then slow down as each one ends. I've tried every comination and permutation of temporal and spatial interpolation, and I still can't seem to get it quite right. Often I wind up with the image doing a graceful arc (no doubt the result of a bezier interpolation) rather than just moving in a straight line. Is there just a simple solution? I just can't stand having a move start and stop with jerky linear motion.
    Thanks in advance.

If you want to change what the clip rubberband represents, you can click on the tiny triangle next to the Timeline's clip's title.
Please refer to blog post on Video and Audio Track Content Rubberband
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/06/pe11-video-and-audio-track-rubberband.html
In the case of a video clip, the default for its rubberband is Opacity. But that can be changed to Motion. As I wrote in the blog post
The Motion Property options are Position, Scale, Constrain Proportions, Rotation, Anchor Point, or Anti-Flicker filter. The Opacity choice is just Opacity.
Keyframing of these properties are reflected as white dots on the clip's rubberband and can be adjusted at that level.
If you do not see the white dots keyframes in the clip's rubberband, then right click the file, select "Show Clip Keyframes", follow to Motion and Opacity, pick one, and follow to find your property named, and select it.
At the rubberband level, right clicking a keyframe (white dot) there, offers opportunities for Linear, Bezier, Auto Bezier, Continous Bezier, Hold, Ease In, Ease Out, and Delete. If you select Bezier, do you see the keyframe handles?
I have not done this, but you might want to see how much of the following you can get done in Premiere Elements using the Final Cut description of "Smoothing Keyframes with Bezier Hangles".

Me neither. I had a NVidia card in one workstation, which I finally got to behave in Photoshop after going through...a number...of driver versions. Problems were legion: stuttering and jerky sliders, disappearing cursor, flashing tiles display, crashes, even BSOD's. But in the end I found a version that worked.
Then I bought Lightroom 4. Sliders would take two seconds to respond, and another three to four for the display to update. Switching between two images was agony. It was totally and utterly useless.
The other machine has an ATI 5850 and has never given me any problems. So I thought what the heck, bought an ATI 6670 card - and all the Lightroom problems went away, just like that.
My totally unscientific conclusion is this: NVidia is for kids playing games. People doing serious work should stay with ATI.

  • No Hopes for SMOOTH Video Playback in Adobe Bridge ?

    Hi....
    System Specs
    MacPro Nehalem 16 CORES
    32 GB RAM - 4TB RAID0
    Lion 7.2
I have a bunch of video files that I would like to organize via Bridge.
Works ok but video playback is a slap in the face. Looks like jerky slow motion.
I have tried altering from hardware to software rendering. No remedy.
Bridge has been around for a long while and with each release the app actually performs worse.
Menus are ultimately slow in showing up and entering a folder with 16 video files (QT ProRes),
selecting them all, has Bridge freezing for 5 minutes supposedly creating previews.
Completey unuseable for video.... in my world !
    So my question is this...
Are their any plans for implementing Video Capabilities in Bridge
or is some kind of 3rd pty. plug-in available that will enable Bridge to playback what ANY other app incl. the QUicklook and Finder can Playback.
Funny thing is that this whole app has been created to BRIDGE between apps created by adobe. If Bridge was a REAL bridge I wouldn't dare cross it.

It has always seemed that Bridge has been the stepchild of Adobe since its inception and that Adobe spends precious little effort and resources on it.
Remember that Bridge was born as nothing more than Photoshop's Browser.  Nothing more.
Then, in a straight marketing stunt, Adobe decided artificially to lump together a number of totally unrelated applications into artificial "suites."  These are in fact totally non-related applications that were artificially bundled by fiat of bean counters and marketers.  The engineering teams for the individual point applications are totally independent from each other and are not only not in in the same building but in different cities, different states and, some, in different countries.  They have pathetically little communication among themselves.
The humble Photoshop Browser was renamed Bridge and jerry-rigged to serve as some sort of go-between vehicle among the applications also jerry-ringed into artificial suites.  (Definition of JERRY-RIGGED: organized or constructed in a crude or improvised manner <a jerry–rigged plan>.
Don't expect too much from Bridge, and don't complain about it too loudly, or you might find yourself among others who have been told, in effect, that "Adobe doesn't charge you for Bridge."  As a "free" byproduct, you get what you paid for.
In this context, just look at what has happened to the value of Adobe stock in the last five years: –28.20% (minus).
Compare that to Apple during the exact same period: +358.43%.
