Stuttering playback on certain clips after render

Morning, I have just edited a music video for a local band but I've having trouble with the output.
The source is AVCHD 1080 50i and I am using that as the project setting too. one of the tracks has 3 0.5 second clips in which plays fine in the timeline, but on export it stutters or jumps. There is nothing wrong with the source, in fact 2 of the clips were filmed separately but put on to the same video track in the project.
If I put just those clips on a timeline and export there's no problem, but when in the music video with colour correction or without they don't render correctly
One thing I've found which is strange is that with each render the error is at a different point and looks different (sometimes a stutter, sometimes a jump and occasionally it's like the clip plays and then restarts)
I've exported to the following and it happens with them all, any ideas would be helpful:
h264 AVCHD 1080 50i 30mbps
MPEG2 1080 25p 50mbps
h264 720 50p 5mbps
WMV 720 25p 5mbps
I need to get this sorted ASAP as it was meant to be on the web earlier this week so any help would be greatly appreciated

I actually figured it out for anyone having a similar issue.....i think!
If you look at the item properties and it says MONO instead of RIGHT LEFT ...you need to double click on the audio clip and make sure both LEVEL and PAN are set at "0"
This fixed my problem so far

  • Pictures lose quality and audio in a video clip starts to clip after render

I enjoy doing various random small projects with final cut studio, but there are a few problems I am still having in doing so. One is I record a local basketball league's games and make highlight videos out of them. Another is I like to convert dvds into files and make favorite quote montages or edit movies to have clean versions for the kids. I do not have professional equipment, yet. Final Cut was the first step I chose to take to upgrade. So I'm sure most of the stuff I use is not the greatest choice, but I'm just trying to get the best out of what I have. And when I have problems that I know are bad, I need to find out how to fix them.
    Problem with basketball highlights:
I am not sure which is the best format to convert the video to in Final Cut that would make it work the best. Also a problem importing pictures.
The camera I use to record is a Sony Handycam Exmor HDR-XR100. I am confused about importing in Final Cut so I usually import through imovie, which saves the files as .mov and then I go to the finder and put them in Final Cut. Clicking on more info shows me a 20 minute clip (of basketball in this case) is 14.29gb, quicktime movie, 1440 X 1080 dimensions, apple intermediate codec, integer (little endian), timecode, channel count: 2, total bit rate: 102, 385. When I record with the camera I usually turn off the button 'easy mode', which shows on the screen a better quality image going from HD to HDHQ and 5.1 surround sound. Sometimes the render times are ridiculously long for small files and the quality decreases or what not so I was just wondering if there is a good extension to use or format that would be better for use in final cut. Obviously some extensions don't work in final cut, but the most familiar I've used are .mov and .avi (though I don't use avi anymore because I've been told it's not the greatest idea)
Another recent problem I'm having is with pictures in these highlight videos. When I record basketball, I like to record and show everyone their stats along with the video at the end of each game. So I create an excel document with all the teams and numbers and then save it as a .pdf file or picture to load into final cut and add to the video at the end of each game highlights. A similar thing happens though, when I load it in the browser from there the quality is great in the viewer. As soon as I load it in the timeline, the quality drops drastically and I can't even read the numbers in the viewer or canvas. When I took a final cut training class I remember hearing something about a button that makes final cut work faster by reducing the quality of the media it's displaying, but doesn't affect the output. I was wondering if maybe there is a simple button that I have set wrong and maybe that is the reason this is happening, or maybe I just am making it a bad choice of extension again I don't know.
Problem with video files not recorded by me:
Other times I don't record from my own camera say if I want to make a movie montage of all my favorite movie lines/quotes. I would like to edit movies as well to make them clean for my kids to watch. In any case, I convert the dvd to a file on my computer, usually multiple extensions and just use the one that works and also has the best quality, and then load it to final cut. (Is there a program in Final Cut Studio that would be better for this? Right now I use iSkysoft Media Converter to convert these files). As soon as I load it to the timeline and render it, the audio skips like a hiccup throughout the movie. This is when I notice the skipping is only really audible in the audio when music starts to play. I thought that was kind of weird. I can't pick it up as much when there is just dialogue, but when a song comes on or a scene begins with music it makes the entire audio sound bad.
So maybe the problem isn't what extension the file is and I need to look at more details such as dimensions I'm guessing. If you have any examples I would appreciate it. I am sorry I am so difficult haha.
Thanks again for all you're input and help. What goes around comes around and I really try to do the best I can in everything I undertake. I really appreciate it.

I called it "making a montage of my favorite movie clips." It is what it is. Just how I said it. I do stand up impressions part time and sometimes, believe it or not i get recorded, or I record myself and "make a montage of all my favorite movie clips" or scenes from a movie or anything for that matter. So as illegal as that is I apologize that you want to monitor that stuff.
So lets step out of our assumptive sheriff shoes and stop hazardly guessing at anything that you would disprove of. Everyone else has been very helpful. Besides, all these questions centralize around a basketball highlight video I am making for a coach, that I myself recorded and own the copyright to, to be specific and hopefully clarify your hunch.
As a video editor you also often receive footage with numerous formats depending on who you're working with. Not everything is an illegal transaction that you assume it to be. Thanks

  • No audio Playback on certain clips?...

The last two clips of people talking of my FCP video do not playback. I had voices talking over music and the music still plays back in these parts but not the other audio. Audio plays back in the viewer. I have tried deleting the clip and re-dragging it into the timeline , I have also tried different clips ...none work.

I actually figured it out for anyone having a similar issue.....i think!

CC 2014 trial. MPEG MOVIE clips flickering on my time line! after render, and after export. tried all kinds of sequence settings, taking out transitions and effects ,even the audio tracks.....still flickering. They play fine outa the project files!?  HELLLLLPPPPP!!!!

We can not see your computer, your settings or even know what your source files are because we are not in the same room as you are!
We cant see what you are doing wrong ...so you will have to tell us a lot more and show us some screen grabs of your settings.

  • Pause between clips after rendering

I have a sequence with several video clips. I shot this entirely with a Canon 5DMarkII so the video format is H.264 mov.
Playback in the canvas/timeline is great until I render. Once I render- either the entire sequence or just a single transition- the playback pauses/stutters between clips. The stutter happens anywhere on the timeline, not isolated to the transition. Intra-clip playback is great, just when it gets to the end of the clip, it hiccups before moving to the next one.
If I delete the render files, playback goes back to normal.
I am editing on a new macbook pro, with an external firewire800 drive as scratch disk. I originally created the project on a new iMac with the same firewire drive and never had this problem. Its just since I have moved to my laptop.
Adjusting RT settings does not seem to correct this problem. Either does moving scratch disk locally or to another drive.
    Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem using the canon 5d Mark 2 with final cut... it's really odd... can't put a finger on the problem... i checked the format of the sequence, along with the video clip... they both match... even the playback in the canvas i can notice the pause... i tried exporting a little portion of it just to preview, and the playback was smoother, but still noticed the pause between cuts...
another thing i noticed was that certain clips there was no pause... could it be a frame rate issue? perhaps it's trying to fill in the frames in between... i don't know... just a guess... i would still like to know how to remedy this problem tho... so let me know your findings... i'll do the same...

  • Multiclip angle goes black in viewer for certain clips

    Hi all,
I have the strangest thing happening. I have two 45 min clips used in a multiclip. I edited the whole thing switching and cutting between the two and whatnot. So, now when I go back to it, on certain clips one camera angle will be blacked out in the viewer only (when multiple angles are showing in the viewer).
Also, under the playhead sync drop down menu in the top center of the viewer window, the 2nd camera angle isn't available as an option. It only see's the first one.
I wonder if this is a bug? It is extremely annoying because I can no longer switch camera angles for those clips.
    Anyone else have this happen?

    hey Pete
theres another thread I think you may already have spotted
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=213768&tstart=0
... anyway, in case not, the gist seems to be that rendering (manually or because of auto-render) whilst still building an active multiclip edit causes some problems with the playback.
try toggling off/on track visibility so as to lose any renders on the sequence (or copy and paste your cut into a new sequence, or using the Tools > Render Manager... to delete your renders for the sequence etc etc)
    hope it helps
    Andy

  • Stuttering playback with all footage. New CC 2014.1 install

I just installed CC 2014 on a mac. Still have CS6 too. I'm getting a very strange stuttering playback issue. Looks like 10 frames per second. then crashes. Cleared preffs and rebooted but didnt fix it. I have tried several types of footage and all plays back the same. Main footage is 24p C300.

    Hello Erik,
    Sorry you're having trouble.
Can you give us the specs of your Mac? Include info on RAM, CPU, drives, OS X version, GPU type and driver number.
Is this a new project or one you updated from an earlier version of Premiere Pro?
Here are some other things I'm recommending for Mac users for this version:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
    Update any GPU drivers
Trash preferencesI read you already tried this.
Ensure Adobe preference files are set to read/write
    Delete media cache
    Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
    Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
    Disconnect any third party hardware
    Reboot
Some users are reporting anomalies with certain footage. To fix it, they rename the folder the media files are in, then relink in Premiere Pro. You may want to try a test with a few clips rather than the whole project first.
Report back if anything here worked for you.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Why do certain clips (photos), viewed in preview, on Adobe Premiere 11 look different on YouTube?

    Hi folks,
I've posted, via Adobe Premiere 11, two different music videos on YouTube and on my Facebook page. The first one, "Back In The Day", looks the same on YouTube (and Facebook) as it did when I viewed it (previewed it) on Premiere 11. But the second video, "Wicked World", that I posted on those internet sites, has certain clips (photos) that look different than what's seen on Premiere 11.
With "Wicked World", it almost looks like certain Panned & Zoomed photos are bigger in size than what the YouTube screen can show?
I used Pan & Zoom on some photos in both videos. But maybe with "Wicked World", I always set the "Hold" times to zero (0) when using Pan & Zoom on some photos. Or could it have something to do with the Track Size on the "Wicked World" Premiere 11 video? BTW, I see that by right clicking in an empty part of the track, the Track Size choices come up as small, medium or large.
Or is it something about upload choices on YouTube? Two different friends helped me with uploads to YouTube for each video, so maybe the first one, "Back In The Day", looks OK because that friend chose proper upload choices?
If you have time, or the inclination to see the difference for yourself, you can go on YouTube and type in on the search bar, "Wicked World Bob Fuchs". You'll see both a head shot of me playing harmonica for one YouTube choice, and a painting of Van Gogh as another way to get to the "Wicked World" problem video, and the "Back In The Day" good video.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Once I find out why "Wicked World" photos slide partly off the YouTube screen, I will delete it from YouTube and replace it with an issue free one.
I just want to learn what caused that, hopefully, so I can avoid that problem going forward.
    Thanks!
    Bob Fuchs
    [email protected]

    A.T.please note:
After sending you a previous email reply to your latest response, I am forwarding a new thought.
I just tried out something you had suggested. I think it may solve the issue I have with the panned & zoomed photos on my "Wicked World" video - the ones that look weird when I view the video on YouTube (and Facebook).
So, in case you also think the following may be the answer, I will now copy and paste relevant parts of my previous email, PLUS include my new thoughts - in order not to waste your valuable time looking into an answer I may already have.
    Here goes:
The Premiere 11 Edit area monitor Magnification had already been set to "Fit".
In Edit Menu Preferences General, I already had a check mark on "Default Scale to Frame Size".
The properties of the first file (a Title screen) that I dragged into the Timeline are 1920 Horizontal, 1080 Vertical. But properties of subsequent photos, some of which I panned and zoomed, are mostly only around 648x599.
Upon viewing my "Wicked World" video carefully on YouTube, I see that what actually happens is that the box-like area where my video is shown (probably the same size of my Premiere 11 screen edit area?) is smaller than the YouTube's screen viewing area. That does not bother me. However, when the panned and zoomed photos occur, my smaller box area, within the YouTube screen, itself moves along with the panned & zoomed movement of the photos! That inner box moves slightly vertically, either up or down, and to lower right or left, depending on which direction the pan and zoom of each photo is going. And an empty border around the video area hangs there, within the YouTube viewing area.
So ... as you talked about, I tried something: I replaced an existing panned & zoomed photo (clip) in the Timeline with the same photo, and then I clicked on "Scale to Frame Size". The photo got bigger. I then did a new pan and zoom on it, and reduced the duration of how long that photo clip plays. Therefore, although the pan and zoom happens faster, it cues to the proper places in the music (audio) track. And I'm guessing that the larger "Scale to Frame Size" on that photo will now show properly in the YouTube viewing area, without the smaller inner box area moving too, along with the panned and zoomed photo?
I have only done this on one of my previously panned and zoomed photos in the video. But if you think this may solve the viewing issue on YouTube, that I described above, then I'll do the same with all the previously panned and zoomed photos in my video, and save it as a new version on Premiere 11.
I guess I'd then try and delete the existing "Wicked World" video from YouTube, and replace it with the new, hopefully issue-free version.
What do you think? Should I try this, and then replace the old one on YouTube?
    Best Regards,Bob [email protected]

  • Playback of any clip crashes CS 5.5

I have been using adobe premire pro cs 5.5 for months and it has worked flawlessly. Now, when i try to do some edditing today, every time i try to play any clip on the timeline the program crashes, no error message, just the windows message: "adobe premire pro cs 5.5 has stopped working". sometimes the audio of the clip will play for about 2 seconds before the crash but the video never plays. i cannot think of any reason why the program would stop working so randomly. i am using windows 7 64 bit if that helps

What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).
-not sure where to find minor version number but ive installed all updates so i think its the newest version of 5.5
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)Yup
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".Windows 7 64 bit
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".MTS footage
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
a windows box appears that says: "windows premire pro cs5.5 has stopped working. a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is avalible
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
Just trying to use playback on a clip i dropped into the timeline
    Has this ever worked before?
-Yes the program was working fine before today
What other software are you running?None
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?no
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).Intel core 2 duo, i have a nvidia GeForce 9700M GTS graphics card. not sure if you need anymore info since it was working on this system before
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?no

  • Jerky playback of video clips in iMovie

Just purchased a Sony Handycam (DCR-SR37E), and the movie playback is very jerky: the red line doesn't flow smoothly through the clips and the playback correspondingly jumps about. The sound is unaffected - it plays back smoothly.
Is this a problem with the computer being too old and slow (iMac G5) or is it a Sony vs Mac issue?

Wow- what a pain!! Just got the brand new MacBook ($999 version) for Christmas, and edited movie in iMovie 09....When I play it certain clips are extremely jerky on playback when I try to convert to youtube or quicktime...Latest Leopard OS- Flip Camcorder...So, basically, the Christmas video is ruined- even though the actual clips are fine...And its strange, because on playback different clips are jerky at different times...Anyone????

  • FCPX - instant playback of video clips

Have just downloaded trial FCPX in order to speed up the importing of HD clips onto my Macbook Air - works a treat!
However I now need to know how I can instantly playback the video clip full screen size and at the same time see the timer, as well as FF, PLAY, PAUSE, STOP and BACK controls so I can easily and quickly play certain parts.
    Many thanks

Tom, the fact is I'm not sure.
What I am looking to do is simply play back video clips from my camcorder as soon as they are imported to the laptop - I have no need to edit them.
When I play the clips, my clients need to view them on a large screen or projector in the room we are working in.  I attach the large screen to the laptop via an Apple miniport to VGA (sorry not RGB) adapter, then a VGA cable to the large screen.
(I plug in speakers into the laptop for sound if the large screen / projector does not have speakers...)
In an earlier reply you mentioned that the functionality I am looking for is not possible with one monitor, hence me describing in more detail about the use of a second screen / projector in the hope that might provide a solution.
    Thanks again

Ok. so working on final cut 7.  Cannon 5d footage, hootage is in H.264 (usaly edit in pro rez, but its happening with both formats)

Setting it to LOW and Quater - gives me a very bad playback - BUT it doesn't halt due to loss of frames.

  • Shifting In&Out points after render

After I color correct my video, certain clips shift after rendering. Anyone else encounter this problem?
    FCP 6.
    TIA,
    Heather

I just noticed that it only happens on longer clips (ie. >30min or so). I broke a clip into 2 sections via Quicktime & the smaller ones now don't seem to have the same problem. Hmm...interesting.

  • Is It Possible To Delete Certain Clips From An Archive?

After successfully completing an Archive, I noticed there are certain clips that I will never use and would like to get rid of them.  I realize that i don't have to import them into my Events  but don't see a reason to have them taking up HD space.  The Archive was built from a mini DV tape cassette which means they are already stored there.  Is it possible to delete certain clips from an Archive?  If so, can't figure out how to go about it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try this on a small archive first and on a duplicate, just to make sure you don't damage the entire archive by using this technique.
You can open an archive by right clicking on the archive icon and Show Package Contents. You should get a regular finder file structure. Find the files you want to discard, select them and Move to Trash.  That should be all there is to it.  I don't see where this should cause any problems, you should be able to import the files into FCPX without any problems (but** I have not tried this for myself — that's why I recommend trying this out on a duplicate archive first.)

  • ODD problem regarding certain clips at 0% speed.?

I have recently updated to Final Cut Pro 6 (and now 6.0.2) and I opened a project that I created with Final cut pro 5. I'm having a really wierd problem where only certain clips are changed to have a speed of 0% in the timeline. I think most of these are shorter clips that may have had their time adjusted before, but not to 0%!
Because they are at 0%, only one frame is showing up. If I downgrade to Final Cut Pro 5, it will open and play correctly, but I do not want to do that because I have new projects created with fcp6.
    I have a power mac g5 dual 1.8 ghz running leopard 10.5.1
Any ideas or help would be appreciated! Thanks!

This is great, although my question is not at all about backwards compatibility, and more about "forwards" compatibility.
My project file that was created with fcp5 is not playing back correctly in fcp6. It is opening, but certain clips are being affected by having their speed changed to 0%, so I only am seeing one frame during playback...
    Any ideas?
