Stuttering Sound in games with X-Fi Xtreme Ga

I have repeatedly had problems with the sound in Bioshock, Civilisation IV and World of Warcraft whereby the sound will start off OK, but often, particularly heavy scene graphically, the sound either cuts out completely, or starts stuttering. I recently replaced the graphics card, but this problem began before I changed them over. I read in the FAQ that these problems could be overcome by turning off certain features such as CMSS-3D and also turning off the ACPI function in the BIOS. I have tried all the suggestions together and I still have the same problem.
AMD 64 X2 4200, 2GB Ram, MSI Radeon RX2600XT, Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Driver 6.0..302Message Edited by Hungry_Hippo on 0-5-200706:6 PM

I am not currently experiencing the sound distortions or drop-outs in the game Bioshock.
The solution could be one of the following. I can't be certain which one:
) Unlocking the framerate under 'graphics options' in the game.
2) Uninstalling the driver 6.0..302, removing the card, rebooting, reinstalling the card, rebooting again, reinstalling the driver.
However, as this is an intermittent fault, I can't be certain it won't recur. If it does, I will post again.

    Hi,
is it true that you can't use 5.1 sound in games with a Creative soundcard and Creative digital speakers?

Go to Knowledge Base article SID3069 then expand the "7. Soundblaster Cards".

  • Stuttering sounds in games under Vista 32-bit

Every minute or so when I'm in any game in Vista (tried World of Goo, Crysis, Spore), the sound stutters for a couple of seconds. I think it is just a sound issue because the framerate doesn't seem to slow down during the stuttering sound. I tried reinstalling the Boot Camp drivers and even completely reinstalling Vista, and the issue is still there. Any ideas?

So it is the wireless drivers. Pretty much thought so.
Oh well, too late for me, it was so incredibly bad for me, I gave up. All week trying to wrangle first the sound drivers, then the network drivers, and couldn't get it fixed. Could /slightly/ reduce it by fiddling with which band it was on, but it would still keep stuttering to a point where it just wasn't working for my requirements. Took it back <week after purchase and got a full refund. Have to say, they did look after me well and offered to help me in shop if this problem gets resolved. I'd still recommend one to anyone who doesn't have the need for Vista64, and I'd get it again once I heard it was fixed (and had a chance to test personally).
Amazing really that there's no decently working drivers for this. People are reporting sluggish network access, crashes, stuttering sound, and still no updated drivers. Hope it gets resolved soon, I WANT MY MAC BOOK!

  • Stuttering sound in games

A lot of people have reported (on other forums) having stutering sound whilst games hang for 10-15 seconds. I han't had those problems untill I moved my games to a Sata drive from an ordinary IDE drive.  I moved them back and the stuttering stopped!
Has anyone noticed this running games from a Sata drive?
Poor old Valve have come in for a lot of stick over HL2 doing this. I wonder how many with this problem are running it from a Sata Drive? Could be the problem is Nvidia's!
Better go to Valve's forum and ask.

I studied that link and can't any reference to disk controllers, yet many are admament that  the problem is poor sound caching which requires sounds to be loaded (from disk!). How the disk controller functions during intensive system use as typified by 3d games could be at the heart of the problem. Other games with large datebases also  stutter, such as Microsoft Train sim.
I'm not saying you are not onto something .. ive had very similar problems with a supposedly top of the range dell laptop with a bad HD interface, everytime it accessed the disk, everyhing would stop momentarily, there is no reason that should be the case and just shows that it is not releasing its interrupt quickly enough.
The reason I pointed the link out is that you were hinting it was the nvidia sata implementation but i think thats only for AMD (atleast now) yet the link implies that intel systems are affected also.
The sooner the cause is discovered the better.. I get it , its not too bad though. installing the new nvidia separate sound drivers helped alot.

  • 5.1 sound in games with Creative Digital-Speakers and Audigy 2

    Hi!
I know that you can't have real 5. sound (only upmix) in games with Creative Digital-Speakers. Is it possible to connect, without the decoder box, the soundcard with the subwoofer (Line-Out -3)? I want to make the cable for LIN_OUT 3 by myself, but which of the 4 pins are for the subwoofer, center front or center rear (ground is clear)?

  • 5.1 analog sound for games with dtt2500

    Hello,
For the sound on my PC, I have the material following, illustrated by the images below: an audio sound card Crative X-Fi extreme PCI express OEM connected with my decoder Crative Desktop Home Theatre 5.1 (which manages digital Dolby but not DTS) itself connected with my 5 HP and my subwoofer.
For the sound of a DVD, no concerns, thanks to an adapter, I can connect the optical grip of my sound card with the grip AC3 SPDIF of my decoder and obtain a digital sound dolby in 5.1.
On the other hand, for the resulting sound of video games, I do not know one single which take advantage of 5.1 digital but only 5.1 analog. I know thus how to connect my sound card via the black links (rear) and green (front) in my decoder to obtain an ANALOGICAL sound in 4.1. But impossible to obtain a sound in 5.1. I do not know how to connect my exit center/subwoofer via an orange-coloured cable in my decoder, which does not possess this entrance.
As a result, not possible to obtain from the analogical sound 5.1 for the games. I thus thought of this solution, the decoder DTS-610 from Creative http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=49
It decodes the signal resulting from three cables (orange, black and green) or 6 "ways" to convert it in DTS on the HP. I thus connect it between my sound card and my decoder via 3 analogical cables and a yellow optical coaxial cable. BUT, as my decoder does not manage the DTS, will it still work ? Could I thus obtain an ANALOGICAL sound 5.1 coming from games instead of the sound 4.1 Or is there another solution?
    Thank you for your help

    hi davebeme,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
That Logitech x530 is meant for a Desktop Audio that support Surround 5.1 channel that has 3 ports as you mentioned (Blue, green and orange)
You will need a USB Audio Adapter like this

Like the Diagram,  the Surround 5.1 sound effect is your Logitech device
    Hope this helps

  • HQ-2300D headphones - stuttering sound when used with laptop

    Hi!
I didn't find any headphone forum, but the speaker forum seems close enough...
I've had the HQ-2300D Dolby Headphone headphones for a few months. They work (very!) well with my separate DVD player (a Pioneer model). Now I've bought a Dell XPS M70 laptop, and I've started having problems.
In short: when playing DVDs, the adapter (or converter) switches frequently between Dolby Digital and Stereo mode, creating a very disturbing chopped-up sound. Inbetween it works, but especially quiet scenes are *very* choppy.
Now, I've tried the same scenes with the *exact* same setup - same DVD player software, same settings, but instead connected to my home cinema system (Marantz surround receiver). That sound flawless and does not show the same behaviour.
Again, please note that the headphones work fine when connected to the digital out of my "hardware" DVD player.
So, what can I do? Is there an issue with the decoder? Too sensitive? Is the signal too weak? Please help! This is one of the reasons I wanted these headphones to begin with!
For the record: WinXP, all drivers and BIOS updated, Sigmatel STAC9200 HD Audio, tried both PowerDVD and VLC with the same effect.
    /Mikael

  • Problem with sound in games

Hi all welcome as you can see I'm new to your forum. So I have a problem as it concerns the sound in games.
Namely, I bought a Creative Headset HS-800 Fatality everything good in listening to music, etc.
But when I go to the game, I turned the sound (someone shoots to the left I hear him right, and vice versa.)
Yes, in all games but mostly it is felt such a battlefiel or call of duty.
At first I thought that this is the fault of my sound card but it's not because I was in a mate and in him was the same ... This recently replaced the computer and the same thing.
I came across the net to reverse the channels, but unfortunately I do not know how to set it up.
Here, the data on my computer:

Operating system: Windows 7 64 bit
I would add that in tests Realtek win7 and everything is fine.
Regards and please help as soon as possible.

Do you get any problems with sound in other (older) games? You didn't mention which drivers in particular you updated, but make sure the graphics card's ones are included.
With regards to Half Life 2, check out this page on the Steam site:

If that page doesn't open correctly for you, just go to http://www.steampowered.com , then Support, and select Half Life 2 in the product list. It should be one of the first cases listed.

  • Having sound distortions in games with M-Audio Revolution 7.1

I'm having sound distortion problems with a couple of games. I think this started a few OS X updates ago, but not sure which one. Two known games are Quake 3 and Quake 4. When I run either of them, the sound is deep and distorted.
I'm sure an update of OS X broke m-audio's revolution driver. I currently have driver version 1.4.1. I only have distortions when sending sound output to my sound card. Sound sent to internal speaker comes out fine. I also tried with a freshly created user and freshly reinstalled driver & prefs. Same problem.
I've tried M-Audio's site with no luck for solutions. It's been a year or so since they have updated it.
Is anyone else having similar experiences with their M-Audio Revolutions?

  • Screeching sounds in games and other problems with Soundblaster live extern

Okay i have the USB external Creative soundblaster li've sound card. i have had a few problems. My first problem is When im in games such as Americas Army i get random Screeches like a tin can being scraped on concrete. My 2nd problem is Talking with my mic. For others to hear me MONITORING has to be enabled, there for i hear myself out of my own speakers as well. I have done everything to try and fix this, i've tried updating drivers, rolling back drivers, using windows automatic drivers. Is there an option i dont see that is causing my card to not sound good? I am using a 2.0 speaker configuration, and i only play the games with headphones on.
    please help.
thanks for your time.Message Edited by Zombeh on 0-6-2006 08:30 AM

You waited 24 hours and gave up? So I'll offer this for anybody else who reads the thread. I have a USB external SB card, but it's in a box somewhere. But IIRC, the Volume Controls work similar to other SB cards. In Volume Controls, Playback, mute the Microphone. In Volume Controls, Recording, select Microphone. This should let you "record" without hearing it on your speakers. Now if a game sets the mixer options for itself, that complicates things. If allowed, choose game audio options similar to these Volume Controls.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'). The function that isn't on the side switch is set via control centre instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • 7.1 audio in Games with Optical out/Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium

    Hi All,
I just recently upgraded my speaker setup from inspire 7800 (which still worked great except losing sound on one of the rear speakers every now and then ... something wrong in the sub i think). So I went online, and surprisingly and sadly no one sells 7. computer speakers anymore, as to why that is a mystery to me.
Anyways, now I am running a Onkyo Home theatre in a box, which comes with a 7. setup with a receiver that i thought would solve my problem, but what happens now in games is I can only get 5. sound, and nothing through the side speakers, actually, it puts the sound through my side speakers and calls them the back channel. Currently it is hooked up from the X-fi Titanium via TOSLINK to the receiver, and I am choosing 7. speakers for my output in the Audio Console, and have tried both DTS and Dolby Digital Li've modes without success to get 7. for games (That's why I bought this setup!). I have a sad feeling it's only going to work with 5. sound for games (It outputs to 7. for music no problem). Is there any fix I can turn on to make true 7. audio go from the PC into my receiver and get outputted properly for games?
I also just wanted to say I'm not sure why 7. speakers seem to be getting shunned from all the?manufacturers, but it's sad that I can use 6 year old technology and make this work, and I assumed that with the new tech of digital output, I should be able to get the same result, but somehow, I can't get 7. sound for games.
Any thoughts anyone would have would be great. I'm thinking im just going to hook this up to my TV upstairs and plug back in my Inspire 7800 through analog and keep using them until they die fully, which I hope doesnt happen for a long time.

So in an interesting turn of events, I went to plug my old 7. inspire speakers in, and the problem i was having with low audio moved from a back speaker to my front speaker. So after testing moving centre speaker to the left input , and that worked for both, i moved them back, and now all of my speakers work fine! I was doing this before I bought the Onyko setup, and it wasn't making a difference at all, I was still getting low sound from the back speaker.. Strange. You've got to love technology. Well, no loss, I needed a good home theatre setup anyway. If anyone could still answer my question that would be great though?

  • Sound quit working with game apps?

Sound quit working with my game apps and email.
Radio, facetime & music work fine.
    Has anyone had this issue?
I did not change any settings.
It worked fine yesterday and today no sound.

If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • IDT HD Audio stuttering 3d apps/games/tf2 - Windows 7 x64 - Pavilion dv7-4113tx

As per the rules I need to state:
I am a HP employee, my views/opinions/etc are my own and do not represent those of HP.
    This is cross-posted from freezes/lockups.
I would file some sort of bug report - but I wouldn't know where to start, I don't work in an area that has anything to do with manufacturing HP products; and this is my free time now  and I don't have intranet access .
I recently picked up a HP Pavilion dv7-4113tx Entertainment Notebook PC [ XV780PA ] for my personal use and overall it's been pretty good. It comes with windows 7 Home Premium x64 bit.
there is however an issue that I must bring up in regard to gaming, or i would assume any intensive 3d application, most notably Valve games, my test of choice is Team Fortress 2.
The game will work fine in native resolution - I get around 100-120fps but about every 30 seconds - 2 minutes, there is a audio/video stutter (by stutter, it will repeat the last .5 seconds of audio about 3-4 times in a loop while the screen will freeze on where the first audio stutter started), which will cause the game to 'freeze' for approximately 2 seconds and then continue where you left off.
Team fortress 2 is an incredibly time critical multiplayer online game, and this delay essentially means my e-death on multiple occasions.
I initially thought it was the graphics card, or the drivers - I upgraded the drivers to the latest on the ATI site, that increased my fps, but the stuttering was still there. After searching around on the internet a bit, i found a suggestion to disable the audio driver (device manager lists it as - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) as a test - so I did so.
The game purrs like a kitten - absolutely no stuttering. my score went up immediately
So, my next step was to try and get some Updated Drivers for the IDT Audio device (note, i cannot find a model name anywhere in the hp specs - or on the internet really) - I found out IDT themselves cannot release drivers, that these can only be obtained through OEMs.
    which brings me to here.
now - the closest I have found to the drivers I required are here:  IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7
Note: - it says on the page that they are 32 bit drivers - but I've found they work with the 64 bit version of windows.
these worked a little better - it fixed another annoying issue - the fact if you use the volume controls in a fullscreen application that it will switch back to the desktop to display the on screen slider bar of the volume going down (which was arguably redundant as windows 7 displays the speaker volume in the bottom right hand corner) - and it just turns the audio down as intended.
however - the stuttering is still very noticeably present .
I then tried to use the HP Support assistant  to run automated diagnostics and troubleshoot... which then downloaded the old drivers that gave me that fullscreen volume control issue back again - so i assume the original drivers.
So I installed the other drivers again.
My next test will be to use an external USB or firewire soundcard to see if this will allow me have games with sound.
Can an appropriate agent at HP please address this concern and notify when this bug will be fixed - IDT says they work with OEM's to fix issues regularly on the IDT link above.
I believe this is such an issue that will likely require a bug fix.
