Stuttering sound on iPod nano

Hello.
My daughter (currently abroad) reported stuttering audio when using the iPod. Unfortunately I only have email contact so analysis is delayed.
I suggested her resetting the iPod.
Any other ideas?

Besides just reseting it suggest she tries all the 5 R's

  • Sound problem iPod Nano 5G

My iPod Nano 5th Gen. has the  following problem: sometimes the sound gets weird (when the headphones  are on, when they're not, the sound is too low). The sound seems cracked  and muffled. The only way to make it work again is to squeeze the area  in the bottom of the screen, even thought sometimes it's difficult to  make it work again.
This  started happening after I put the iPod in a shield case (made by  Belkin, which I believed to be a brand of trust when it came to device  accessories). The case was too tight for the iPod because it was  difficult for it to close. Even so, after I was able to close it, the  sound on the iPod wasn't working normally like it should so I took the  case off. The sound still wasn't ok so I found that way of squeezing it  in order for it to work again. I returned the case to the store.
But  the problem seems go on again, specially after I turn it off (when i  press the play bottom on the click wheel for a couple seconds) and if I  use the click wheel with the iPod resting on a plain surface. I believe  this must be a connection problem between the device and the sound.
I  would like to know if any of you ever had this problem, what else can I  do and, if there's nothing I can do to solve it, if you think that it's  worth repairing the iPod in an Apple support center (because, with the  experience I've had with another device that had a problem, sometimes  the price of repair is so high that it's cheaper to get a new device  instead of getting the actual one fixed).

You damaged a connection on the logic board when you forced it into the case.
You can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement and while you are there compare yours to the 7th Generation Nano and decide whether you want to get it replaced or get a new one.

  • Sound Quality ipod nano

I have recently bought an ipod nano having had a Sony hard drive walkman for a few years. The sound quality and memory size of the Sony was amazing, but if the unit moves too much it freezes so I decided to change to ipod.
I am really happy with the ipod apart from the sound quality with some of my songs.
A couple of albums (such as Andrea Bocelli) crackle during certain songs when played on the ipod even with the equalizer off or flat. They do not do this when played throught the computer with the same headphones, and I have tried recording the albums in different formats and frequencies. The majority of my albums play without any distortion.
Is there some way to overcome this?

I have had such an experience while listening to "Il Divo". I think you might have to play a round with the equalizer. It probably affects operatic songs.

  • Cannot get any sound forn iPod nano 3 on my JBL iPod dock, it used to work fine, but I haven't used it for awhile.  Appreciate any suggestions for non technical grandmother. Thanks

I have an older iPod nano.  I have a JBL iPod dock that worked fine with this over a year ago, but I tried it recently and I cannot get any sound to come out.  I am a technically challenged grandmother so this stuff does not come naturally.  Help would be appreciated.  Thank you

    Wow, thank you so much!
Turns out there was a topic on the forums there with guy having same problem and they linked him to topics that saved his iPod too.
Thank you so much, it works now

  • Videos doesn't have sound on iPod Nano

Ok, well whenever I convert my videos in iTunes using Advanced > Created iPod or iPhone version. The video converts, I play the video, and it doesn't work. It's like a mixure of colors, let's just say a black screen. And the sound doesn't work. But when I upload it into my iPod, the video works, sound doesn't. How do I fix that?

Question wasn't answered, nobody answered it....

  • Ipod nano 4GB stutters ...

I've just got my personalized ipod Nano 4GB and it seems not to work properly.
The sound/music "stutters" in a random manner, especially when I am listening BBC podcasts.
It is something with the ipod and not related to the source file since rewinding and playing the same file again does not reproduce the stutter on the exact same place of the “track" , but if it continues playing, the stutter will occurs randomly in another place/time of the playing podcast or music file.
I've tried everything: from resetting the ipod, factory reset, last firmware update, etc but it still behaving in the same away.
Could someone please give me a feedback and confirm if this is a common problem with ipods?
(I've sent a msg to Apple, they told me to contact customer services/support - I did - but nothing... -- should I send it back and try to find an alternative to ipod?)
Before I forget it is just 3 or 4 days old .
    Thank you all.
    ipod nano 4GB

Deluded, I am able to recreate the stuttering problem on my 2GB Nano, also purchased just a few days ago (Monday, July 31, to be exact - I have also updated it with the latest iPod Updater). I downloaded the latest BBC "Wake Up to Money" podcast (August 4) and heard it stutter a couple times within the first 5 minutes; I played it again and it stuttered again, but not in the same places it had before. I also noticed random little "ticks" throughout the playback.
I did some testing with the LAME 3.96.1 MP3 encoder, and heard very similar "ticks" on a music track encoded to 56 kb mono @ 44.1 kHz sampling rate, the same parameters as the BBC podcast. However, I never heard it stutter, although this may be due to the much shorter length of the music track (4:24) as opposed to the podcast (23:51) (note that the length in and of itself is not a problem - I've already played a single 4-hour VBR MP3 without a single glitch).
After trying a few more settings in LAME, it appears that the Nano has a problem with mono MP3 files at a 44.1 kHz sampling rate - mono MP3s at 32 kHz or 22.05 kHz were tick-free, as were mono AAC files at 44.1 kHz. I tried converting the podcast to a mono 64 kb AAC file in iTunes, and sure enough, it played back perfectly (or at least the first 4 minutes) - no ticks or stutters of any kind.
Note that this is hardly conclusive, as the ticking and/or stuttering is very random and I've only tested it on a couple files, but it does seem to point strongly to the Nano having problems with mono MP3 files at 44.1 kHz.
This is something Apple needs to be made aware of, but until /if they offer a fix, it appears that simply transcoding the podcasts to mono AAC files will do the trick (note that in the "Custom" encoder settings in the iTunes preferences, you actually need to specify double the bitrate you want the file to be when you select "Mono", i.e. if you want a 56 kb mono AAC, you'll need to set the bitrate at 112 kb - it should then say "56 kb (mono)" in the Details box). Also note that the converted files will not show up under "Podcasts" in iTunes or on the Nano - they'll just be standard files in the Library, although all the tag information will still be there, so they will sort correctly, i.e. the artist name will be "BBC Radio Five Live".
...Just did a quick test, and it appears that you actually can force iTunes to recognize the AAC file (which will have an .m4a extension) as an actual podcast. To do this, open up the iTunes Podcasts folder (if you're using the default iTunes setup on a PC, it should be "C:\<your user name>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\Podcasts"), open up the folder that corresponds to the show containing the podcast you just converted (in this case, "Wake Up to Money") and drag-and-drop the .m4a file into the Podcast window in iTunes. You can then delete the original .mp3 file (turning on the "Kind" and "Bitrate" columns makes this much easier to keep track of).

  • HT3310 i have a problem with the headset of my ipod nano 4th gen. the right side don't have a sound. It comes in and out.  what do I need to do?.. I am using the original headset eversince. I took it to an Apple Mac Center I was told they can't do anythin

I have a problem with the headset of my ipod nano 4th gen. the right side don't have a sound. It comes in and out.  what do I need to do.. I am using the original headset eversince. I tool it to a Apple Mac Cennter and Taked with a Service Center Rep. And he told me that they can't do anything because they don't repair the ipod they didn;t even look at it. I was told instead to buy a new one. I was very disappointed.. This is already my 5th ipod though i am planning to buy a new one.. I still want it fixed so I can give it to my little sister

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • I have a ipod nano, and I bought a Bose portable sound system, when I put my ipod in the unit and play my songs in shuffle mode, it plays the same song over and over, how do I get it to play in shuffle mode?

I have a ipod nano, and I purchased a Bose portable sound system to play my ipod on
but it will not shuffle the music, it will play the same song over and over, until I hit the
next song on the remote or do it manually. Does anybody have a solution?????

Sounds like the repeat setting has been enabled.  See your iPod's User Guide for information on how to turn it off.

  • Does the ipod nano can record sounds?

Does the iPod nano can record sounds connecting "headphones with microphone"?

    Hi uptight,
Yes, the iPod Nano does support MP4 files.
You can find more information about the files the iPod supports here: http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
You can convert many videos right from iTunes. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1211 will walk you through the process with sample files.

  • Ipod Nano 7 - No sound comes out of the headphones, and i tried different headphones... Can you help? What shall i do?

Hello ! No sound comes out of my ipod nano 7. I tried different headphones, all working on other players, but nothing comes out of the ipod nano. Of course I turned the volume up and made sure to press on play... Anybody to help me out? Thanks a lot !

The jack on the Nano is very tight when it is new. Push the headphones all the way in until the plastic on the headset jack is flush with the body of the Nano.

  • IPod Nano sound problem with bass

    Hello,
I bought an iPod Nano 4Go few days ago. I used to have previously a Sony HBM30 that was very good in sound quality and especially with bass.
With the iPod nano, I should say that the sound is not as good as the sony especially for bass (saturation). I encode with VBR 256kbps in MP3. The sound is very poor if I put on the equalizer and there's no way of changing bass or treeble.
So here are few questions :
1/ Is there any tips to improve bass quality in order to avoid saturation ?
2/ Is there any headphone that are better that Ipod ones for bass ?
3/ Is there any firmware in the future that could improve sound and bass ?
4/ Does Apple knows this problem ?
    Thanks for you help.
    Best regards

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Keep in mind the headphones you may be using. How are the songs in iTunes? The question is whether the songs are being sent to the iPod with good quality. If you are pleased with the songs in iTunes, then first look at the headphones you are using. Are you using the white ones that come with the iPod? Those are not the best headphones as far as sound quality goes.
Just looking for a few basic answers to those questions before trying to troubleshoot the iPod, iTunes, or the songs.
    Merry Christmas

  • Ipod nano sound not right - please help!

Hi, I got an ipod nano for my birthday today, followed the instructions and loaded it all in, loaded all my CD's into itunes, loaded them all onto the nano, but when I finally came to listen to my songs, the sound is all weird. The vocals are very quiet and out of sync with the music, and the music sounds 'distorted'. Any ideas?? All help greatly received, I'm so sad!

    Lianne:
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Boards. I assume as this is your first post that you have not used Macs or iTunes before. Have you listened to your music within iTunes on your computer? Does it sound OK there?
As a first step, I would check your settings in iTunes. Go to Preferences/Advanced/Importing and be sure the setting are at least 160kbs (High Quality).

  • Can I Connect an iPod Nano to Logitech Z-680 surround sound system?

I want to know if I can connect my  iPod Nano 16GB to my Logitech Z-680 Surround Sound System.  I already connect my MacBook to the system by plugging into the three plugs in the back of the controller then those three plugs merge into one plug which I then plug into the headphone jack on the side of my MacBook.  Since the battery life of my MacBook is 2 hours, at best, Id like to use my iPod to play music.  I tried plugging in the plug that I use for connecting my MacBook into the headphone jack of my iPod but I could not get any sound.  The single plug seemed a bit small for the iPod.  There are, also, two other jacks on the Logitech Z-680 controller, which are located on the front of the controller.  One is for headphones and the other I am not sure.  It has a musical note symbol above it.  I have never used that jack before.  Any suggestions/guidance is greatly appreciated.

This video guide should explain it:

  • Received a replacement ipod nano in early January . Works well in a sound system but keeps turning off when earphones are used. tried 3 pair but same result. When tried for support comes up as  expires. Says I have to purchase . Why????

Received an ipod nano replacement in January. It works in a sound system but keeps turning itself of or loosing sound when earphones are used. I have tried several sets os earphones with the same result. When I just tried to seek support my Serial number comes up with warranty expired although the letter says 3 mths warranty. What gives Apple ??? Any one any advice??/

This is usually an indication that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  The white plastic part of the headphones should be flush with the Nano and no silver from the plug should still be visible.  The headphone jacks on the new 6G Nanos are a bit tighter than previous generations, so it requires a bit of extra push to get the headphones to pop all the way in.
Also check make sure the jack is clear of debris such as lint.
