Stuttering With MSI R9 270x Gaming 2G (single GPU)

Hello
I have just bought an MSI R9 270x Gaming 2G and I get this stuttering when I play Battlefield 4 and Call Of Duty Ghosts when my fps is 40 to 60. The graphics run smoothly for a few seconds and then there is a few stutters and then it runs smoothly again for a few seconds and then stutter and so on all the time.
I have updated my vga bios and motherboard bios and I have tried both the newest drivers and some older ones and it is the same.
Does anyone else have this problem and does anyone have a solution?
Thanks
Phazer1980

What version? On AMS's site there is only 13.11 beta and I have the 13.12 non-beta. Then there is the 13.30 driver, but does that work with R9 cards?

I got a BAD MSI R9 270x 2g gaming card.. I have switch it for a new one same model many times and still have that artifact problem I have REINSTALL MY PC 10X with windows 8.1 64bit (maybe this video card is not working with windows 8.1 64bit...)
And don't say the standard apology "its your power supply" thats inpossible I have an Enermax Revolution87+ ERV750AWT-G and I tried on an other PC and still the same ISSUE with the last 14.4 driver and the old MSI DRIVER 13 MY PC work with I7 4770K (not OC yet) O yea I have only 1 GPU and not in CrossFIRE!
And yea there is no new Vbios available... And AMD is in SLAX MODE with making a NEW DRIVER!
So HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM ?? I can't switch my video card in store everytime they will think ?? AGAIN! WITH THE SAME PROBLEM!?
And you know I'm not the only person that is angry on MSI with this corrupt VIDEO CARD MODEL!
Maybe (you MSI )need to ask all MSI R9 270x gaming 2g (With Serial number XXXXXXXX)back from costummers and give us a new one without PROBLEMS for free!
I WILL REALY BURN MY VIDEO CARD WITH FIRE! AND BUY NEVER A MSI AGAIN! If there is no solution for this corruption..

This is a USER to USER forum and no one from MSI is here so you will get no reply from them by posting on this forum >>How to contact MSI.<<
if you want someone to help you please supply us a list of all the parts your using please! (if you have had Multiple cards and all are showing artefacts something else is going wrong could be RAM, Driver (13.12 is usually the most stable as the 14.xx versions have some Bad bugs in them) or a Faulty PSU (if its not the RAM or Drivers then its usually that))
Also between installing drivers please wipe out the old ones completely using this >>Driver Fusion<< in safe mode to clean out any fragments the normal AMD un-installer leaves behind like Regestery keys and Profiles ect!
so please follow this >>Posting Guide<< and give us a list of the parts your using please!

Techpowerup has recently published the review of my MSI R9 270X Gaming.

If you have any ideas about this, please let me know.
The second problem is the typical flickering that occurs in 2D. I would be grateful if you could help me with that too.

  • MSI R9 270x Gaming Flicker.

Hi i have screen flickering issue on my MSI R9 270x gaming 2G BF4 card.
    S/N: 602-V303-07SB1312026597
and here is the link to the current vbios
    dropbox.com/s/czeirvxcs0yxkyd/Pitcairn.rom

    Try the latest UEFI vbios:
Decompress the attached .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (1A0.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.1A0) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.1A0 to 1A0.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive provided on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 1A0.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.
If still no help run the Gaming APP in OC or Gaming mode and see if that helps: http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/gamingApp.zip

    which PSU should i buy?
If you want to try another psu any Corsair single rail psu from 550W and above would be fine. Recommended is Corsair VS Series VS650. Quite cheap but plenty of power for your system. It offers 50A on a single +12v rail.

Yeah, you provided the wrong S/N... It IS 602-V303-03SB and not 602-V303-02SB as you said, no wonder the confusion (and although I already asked..). Hence you have a regular Gaming and the provided vbios is definitely correct. If there is a switch on the card it is to switch between legacy and UEFI/GOP vbios (no middle position).

Have tried everything from changing power supply to getting the card checked from where i bought it. The flicker is not permanent but randomly occurs. And sometime there are massive artifacts that stay on screen in certain apps until I reboot and they're gone. Here's some more info on my hardware
    Board: Gigabyte GA-z87-HD3
Bios: Version f8(latest) problem persisted through the old versions
    VGA:   MSI R9 270X Gaming 2G BF 4

  • MSI R9 270x gaming 2g - artifacts

    Hi!
I've just upgraded my pc a week ago, and my actual setup is:
    Motherboard: MSI h97 pc mate
    GPU: MSI R9 270x gaming 2g
    CPU: I7 - 4790
    PSU: Tryteck 550w
    Ram: 12 gb DDR3 Kingstone
    HD1: 240gb SSD Kingstone
    HD2: 2tb Samsung
    OS: Win 8
I was all happy and everything, and then...after some minutes of playing those weird flashing square appeared....
they spawn even on img viewer...
i've tried installing the latest MSI driver, but the problem was even worse...then tried the latest AMD driver (14.4) and the problem softened a little, so that it happen a little less often than before, but it's still happening...."MSI Live Update" say that i already have the latest vbios, so i can't even try updating it.
The shop where i brought all my new pc's parts say that it may be the psu, not capable of powering everything as it should...
I can't try out an other, more powerful psu without buy an other one and i want to be sure the problem is really the psu, before buying an other one...
Anyway, sometimes they happen as i enter a game, sometimes they happen after i play for hours...and sometimes they just don't appear at all O.o

Bios is outdated and should be updated as you are also using a Haswell refresh cpu. Use the following and don't use Live Update as it bricks boards.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive (180.rar) and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_amt10_mb.zip

  • Checking ram that works with MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING Intel Z87 Motherbo

Was wondering if Vengeance pro series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 DRAM 2400MHz C10 Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2A2400C10R) will work good on MSI Z87-GD65 GAMING Intel Z87 Motherboard or if im gonna need to do some tweeking.

Since in the components purchasing stage for the project, a few tips for you. Check with the PSU manufacturer to make sure it is Haswell compliant. I like single rail +12V PSU's made by Corsair, but there are other good ones out there too. OS is also important. I prefer Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, but if you go with Win 8 or 7, some GTX 780 issues may arise. GOP, VBIOS, mainboard updated to the very newest UEFI/BIOS etc. can be involved. UEFI/BIOS update is a good place to start if the graphics card gives you trouble. Research as much as you can prior to the build. Advance planning helps a lot on what to possibly expect.

  • MSI R9 270X GAMING OC crashing when leaved alone with 3D games in background

    Hello,
Sometimes when leaved alone with 3D games in background the screen get lost with vertical and horizontal green lines that I think indicate hardware failure. The system become unrecoverable and need an hard reset. I haven't touched absolutely nothing since I'm not an overclocking guy having had bad experiences in the past.
Can a BIOS update help the situation? I found a BIOS over the net (from TechPowerUp):
    Filename:    MSI.R9270X.2048.131105.rom
    Version:    015.041.000.000.002887
    Build date:    2013-11-05 03:50:00
    Date added:    2013-11-22 04:25
    MD5 Hash:    d8ff128cbaf4865d9efe299e0a9af0a0
Is it really compatible with mine card? Moreover the utility ATIWinflash indicates that the old BIOS image size is 0x10000 when the new one is 0x20000.

  • MOVED: MSI R9 270X Gaming 2G Graphics Glitches VBIOS?

This topic has been moved to GAMING Graphics Cards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=183819.0

Hi, hope I'm ok replying to this after it's been a a while but seemed to make sense to have the history.
Unfortunately the glitches were not gone for long. I used your method for removing the current drivers and installing the MSI ones and it seemed ok for a little while but a few days after my last reply they were back. It's taken me so long to get back to you as I decided I would wait until I could do a clean install of my OS with the MSI drivers. I did this over the Christmas break and it's the same. It doesn't seem to be heat related as the glitching can happen at random times, it's happened as soon as the desktop appears after the PC has been off overnight a few times. It can pretty much start at any point from instantly to 3 or 4 hours usage. From running games to just running a web browser.
I only really play an old online game so it shouldn't be causing the card any stresses. I think i'm looking at a faulty card unfortunately, but happy to try any other suggestions. I managed to find someone else who had a suitable PSU in their machine and who didn't mind trying it out for me. After about 30-40 minutes we started noticing the glitches appearing while just browsing the web and a music player running.
