Style Drawer "Sticks"

When I choose to start a new document from a template, the new document appears to zoom toward me from the Template Chooser. But the style drawer seems to appear at the bottom of my screen just behind the Pages icon on the dock and grow to full size while it is zooming into proper position next to the document. It would be a cool visual effect, but my style drawer never reaches its destination. It stops short, appearing at full size too low and partially hidden by the document. It has come most of the way from its point of origin, but not quite all the way. I then click the button on the document's tool bar (blue circle with the paragraph marker) to close the drawer. The drawer instantly appears in the proper position and then closes. Then I click again to open it and it opens properly. I've been unable to find anyone else complaining of this, so I doubt it's a common glitch. Is there a preference file or something I should ditch?
Regards,
Matt

The plist to delete is in your home library. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences, delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist, empty the Trash & then restart Pages.

  • Is it not possible to see the styles drawer in full screen mode

I've recently upgraded to a delicious iMac 27" on Lion and am perplexed why iBook Author doesn't allow you to see the styles drawer in full screen mode.
Surely this breaks the point of using this mode of working

  • How can I get back the Styles Drawer in Pages 5?

The Pages Styles Drawer allowed the quick highlighting/assignment ot a style to text. In long complex documents the open drawer made Style assignment quick and easy. NO MORE. Unless I am missing some command the Styles Drawer has been replaced by a new and much slower multistep clic/dropdown/click process. Is there any workaround to this problem? Help!

If you want to open a new tab in a certain url (like www.google.com or another site) go to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] find/type '''browser.newtab.url''' , double click on it (or right click on it and select modify) and type the url you want. Every time you open a new tab you open it in that url/site.

  • Keep the styles drawer open in Pages 5?

I searched a bit and didn't see anything on it. Please forgive if this has been answered. Is there a way to keep the styles drawer open as in previous versions? My workflow is to type in everything I want - as in a screenplay - and then use the arrow keys and mouse button to quickly descend the document and change the styles as I go. As in keep the mouse on a particular style (CHARACTER NAME, for instance) and then as I hit a paragraph that needs that style just click while arrowing down...
Anyway...I don't see a way to do this in the new version.
    TIA.

UPDATE -- I have discovered a fix of sorts. Sorry if this is obvious.
Go to VIEW / Customize toolbar and drag in "copy style" and "paste style"
you can also access these from FORMAT menu or via command-option-C; command-option-V
Use this function to copy the style you wish to apply
Then go through and paste it everywhere you want it.
Not as good as the old way, but probably more efficient than constantly re-opening the drawer..

  • Missing Font  issue - Delete styles in styles drawer?

Every time I launch Pages (v. 2.0.2) I get a drop down type of message: The Following errors occurred while trying to open this document: Missing Font TimesNewRomanMS.
I don't get it. Times New Roman shows up in the fonts in Pages. It is also in my Font Book. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening?
Second: I create a newsletter for our church. I have created a template that works well for the information I need to put in it. Would you recommend deleting some of the items in the styles drawer that I will not use? Just wondering...Thanks in advance....Karen

    Karen,
Times New Roman isn't the same as Times New Roman MS. The "MS" stands for Microsoft, and the document you're trying to open may have been created with that version of Times New Roman. The fact that you get that error message probably indicates that the document was created on a computer that had Office installed. You can probably fix this by highlighting all the text with the MS version, then changing it to the Times NR you have on your computer.
No need to delete styles, unless their very presence bugs you. They don't add any extra baggage to the document.

  • When full screen - where is the Styles Drawer?

    Hi  -
I was exploring IBooks Author and having a ball.  It looks great in full screen mode.
What I can't figure out is where the Styles Drawer is supposed to be when in full screen mode?  I know where it is in normal viewing mode but it can't be reached in that spot when FS.
Is there a trick to it or just something Apple missed.
    TIA your input.
    J2

By design, items hung outside the primary window are disabled. Use the built-in menus are needed and if you like, feel free to request a different option, etc, via iBA's Feedback menu.
My advice, tho is to use the biggest monitor you can and more than one if possible

  • Problems with items in style drawer

Not sure what I've done. I create the newsletter for our church. I started w/ a pre-made template and tweaked it to fit our needs. It has worked well for a couple years. Now, when I open up the Style Drawer, many of the styles are missing. There are big gaps in the list of Paragraph Styles, Character Styles etc. What have I done? Is there a way to restore all of the styles? Even when I open a new template - many style options are missing. Thanks in advance...Karen

Do you have saved copies of the newsletter that have the lost styles??? If so you can import the styles from the old newsletter to a new document and save it as a template.
Here is how the manual says how to do it:
    +To import styles from a Pages document:+
    +1 Choose Format > Import Styles.+
+2 Select the document that contains the styles you want to import, and then click Open.+
+3 Select the styles you want to import in the dialog. Hold down the Command key as you click the style names to select multiple styles, or click Select All.+
+4 To replace styles in your document that have the same name as the styles you are importing, select “Replace duplicates.” Note that replacing a style will affect any text that uses this style; replacing a style also changes the style of text in locked objects, but the text retains its original appearance.+
+If an imported style has the same name as a style in the open document and you do not select “Replace duplicates,” a number is appended to the name of the imported style. For example, if you import a style called Body to a document that already contains a Body style, the imported style will be named Body 2.+
    +5 Click OK.+
+Imported paragraph styles will be available by clicking the Paragraph Style pop-up menu in the Format Bar and in the Styles drawer of your document. Imported character and list styles will be available in the Styles drawer.+
+To maintain a consistent look among several documents, keep a master document that contains all the styles you need. When you need to change a style, change it in the master document and import the master document’s styles into the other documents.+
    Hope it'll help you!

  • Deleting styles in Style Drawer

Here is some info I have deduced.
If you start from a blank document you can delete all the paragraph styles except for the following:
    Free Form
    Body
    Heading 1
    Heading 2
It's not intuitive to me why Heading1 and Heading2 are "required".
As soon as you insert a table into the document, you will get style: Heading 3 added to the style drawer. You cannot delete Heading 3. If you remove the table, then Heading 3 will disappear.
There is no amount of tinkering you can do in the table inspector to make Heading 3 disappear. As long as you have a table, you will have Heading 3. Even if it is a 1x1 table with no text entered into it, you will still have Heading 3.
If you click "Define Default Table Style", you will be punished by having Heading 3 made permanent even if you delete the table.
    Hope this info helps.

This subject was treated several times.
These styles are defined for the TOC.
You can't remove them by standard means.
You may apply surgery on the Index.xml file but I will not push you on this track.

  • Keynote 2.0.2: Missing Styles Drawer

Judging from the Apple Keynote 2 Help document posted here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=166262
Keynote 2.0.2 should provide a "Show Styles Drawer" option under it's View menu. When I run Keynote 2.0.2 on my PowerBook (800 MHz Titanium PowerBook G4), I find no such option, and I can find no other way whatsoever to bring up a "styles drawer". Any suggestions?

Interesting... that would explain everything. My conclusion, then, is that Apple has posted a "Keynote 2 Help" document on its web site that does not apply to Keynote at all (but rather Pages).
    Thanks for you help, Brian.

  • Postion of Styles Draw in page

The Styles Drawer comes up to the right of my screen. I want it on the left but can't find out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Many thanks

Although I am not certain, in Pages 09 the styles drawer appears wherever there is substantial space or where there is more space present. If there is more available side space on the left side of the Pages document window, the drawer appears on the left and vice versa. Essentially, although I may be incorrect, the drawer appears wherever space is greater. I hope this helps.
To make the drawer come up on the left, move the pages document window to the right.

  • Show Style Drawer

Is there a way to make the Styles Drawer open to a preferred side of the window (left/right)?
It seems to open automatically to the right, unless there's no room for it between the window and the screen's right edge. So the only way to make it open to the left of the window is to drag the window to the far right of the screen, forcing it to open at left.
Is there a way simply to make it open at left, without moving the window? (In a 15" MPB screen, space is tight and needs close management).
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, no. I suggest you leave feedback for the Pages team regarding this. You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback. That takes you to the same page as this link.

  • Keeping a Style in the Styles Drawer

Whenever I make a new style, it only appears in that document. I need to use certain formatting for my school papers, though. How can I keep the style in the styles drawer across all of my documents?

    Knockoutdoc wrote:
In the original doc that you created that list, did Pages "learn" that list. In other words, when you hit return to start a new line, when you hit decrease indent did it revert from the bullet to a number? I am sorry if I am not making myself clear, but it is hard in email.
Yes it does remember as I have Created a new Style list. I named it Custom mixed list. When I decrease the indent using the Inspector palette it behaves as it should.
Also, it seems that you saved this into the style drawer, and not as a template? Is this true? I know you can import styles from previous documents and apply them.
You need to create a list style you like first. Click on the small triangle that shows when a style is selected. Save the style with a new name. It will only be remembered in that document so if you want to use it again save the document as an template for later use-

  • Styles drawer disappeared!!

    Hey,
I worked since a long time on a very big document in Pages. I defined a lot of styles and everything was running quite smoothly. Now, suddenly the Styles drawer has disappeared. It is still marked as "view Styles drawer" and no matter if I click to hide it and then again on view it doesn't change anything. Neither restart of the programme or the Mac change anything.
    I need help!
    Regards,
    Steffen

    Hi Jerry,
I'm really frustrated with the new Pages. In my ordinary workflow, I create documents that have as many as four to six different custom styles (headings, subheadings, body text, list text, etc.). In iWork '09, all I'd have to do to change a style is click on a line of text and select the desired style in the drawer, which I have permanently open on the left side and which handily listed all the styles I needed in one layer. Same goes for when I carriage return and need to have the next line a completely different style than the previous (e.g. typing paragraph text under a heading).
Now, however, my list of styles which I need to access is buried one layer deep in the new styles drawer, which lamentably is a drop-down menu! I know it's only one extra click but for the amount of style changing I do it is a huge inconvenience. I searched everywhere in the app but I can't seem to find a way to make the Styles pane a drawer or at least a floating window.
    Anyone have any ideas??
    Billy

  • Styles drawer misplaced when opening template

I'm using New from Template Chooser to open a new document, and the template I choose is supposed to have the Styles Drawer open. But when the new document appears, the Styles Drawer is misplaced. Instead of being attached directly to the left edge of the window, it floats about an inch or two down and slightly under the window. It reappears in the correct place if I close it and open it again. Any idea what's causing this?
    Thanks!

OK, next step would be to create a new user account and open Pages in that. It it work well in the new account something is wrong in the old one.
Another thing one can do is delete iWork:
Users > your name > Applications > iWork folder
Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > iWork '09 folder
There are more but can be left on the computer
Restart the computer and use Disc Utility to repair permissions.
    Install iWork again
    Hopefully it will now work
If Pages works well from an other account, reinstalling it is pertfectly wasted time.

  • Custom Paragraph Styles not Sticking

I have defined some custom styles for the Headings, but their size is not sticking. For example, my Heading 1 is defined as Times New Roman Bold size 24, Heading 2 as the same but size 18, etc.
When I switch to body, and then switch back to Heading 2, I get the bold, but not the size—the text just becomes TNR bold size 12. I have to click the red triangle next to Heading 2 and click "Revert to Defined Style" each time, even though I didn't explicitly change the format. I have tried to re-define the style, but still get this issue. How can I fix it?

Not being an expert on styles, I haven't used them much, I would suggest you read the Pages User Guide. It is downloadable from the Pages Help menu.
I would read the chapter about styles and see how one is meant to do. In my small experience it can have to do with if one is clicking once or twice on the style.
