Styles Dropdown in Formatting Toolbar vs Styles and Formatting Pod

I'm new to RH8 and I notice that the Styles dropdown list in the Formatting Toolbar displays only Paragraph and Character Styles while the Styles and Formatting Pod displays Paragraph, Character, List, and Table Styles.
How do I add List (LI) styles to the Styles dropdown list in the Formatting Toolbar?
Is this a bug?

Welcome to the forum.
You don't add them and it is not a bug.
The toolbar is the old way of selecting a paragraph style, the pod is the new way and contains the new style types that have been added.
The toolbar has been left in as an easy way of selecting paragraph styles quickly.

I have a mac mini, late 2012. I need to be able to submit online documents in APA style and as a MSWord document. Can I do this using pages or another app??

In addition to what lllaass wrote, I would add that you keep it simple, that is, keep to APA 6 formatting requirements, but watch use of bullets, as well as insertion of figures or charts.  It also might help if you had access to MS Office for Windows to open up your file before uploading to confirm that what you wrote in Pages is what the 'reader' on the other sees.

  • Styles - Why isn't Styles & Formatting pod showing what's applied?

Brand, spanking new RH8 project and new CSS that I'm trying to create using RH Styles tool - not an upgrade issue
    Hi All,
First time creating a CSS in RH8 (and I'm pretty novice when it comes to CSS). After reading everything I can find about Styles & Formatting in RH8 (Grainge.org included - thank you, Peter!), I still can't figure out something really basic: I built a List Style called "Numbered", it's definitely there in my CSS (shows up in the Styles & Formatting pod and Styles editor where I created it), and it seems to be applying correctly when I select text and then the Numbered list style. But, if I later go back to a topic and want to make sure it was tagged appropriately, when I click the text (none) is what's selected in both the Styles & Formatting pod and the Formatting toolbar. When I look at the HTML, it's applied correctly:
    <ol type="1">
    <li class="Numbered">First step of procedure here.</li>
    <li class="Numbered">Here's the next step</li>
    <li class="Numbered">Here's the next step</li>
    <li class="Numbered">&#160;</li>
I saw an old post re: a display issue with styles in RH7. Is this still a bug in RH8? Is there anything I can do to display the currently applied style somewhere on the Design side? (I have novice RH users working with me on this project...I can't make them go look at the HTML to see if the right style is applied!)
Second to that, how do I get the Formatting toolbar to show List Styles (seems to be showing Paragraph styles only)? Basically I'd like that box on the Formatting toolbar to show only what I want it to show... about 6 styles total, but some are Paragraph and some are List.
    TIA!

Thanks, Peter. Ahhh, yes, thank you, that does help me understand what's happening.
The rather annoying thing is that even if "All available styles" is selected at the top of the Styles & Formatting pod, when I select one of the numbered steps it still displays (none). So it seems the only way to confirm the correct List style has been applied from the Design side is to toggle over to displaying List styles only (and then switch back when working on an area of the topic with P tags).
I just wish there was a way to customize the toolbar to show more than the P style. I want to keep this project as simplistic as possible (will be handing it over to the client when finished, and they are not RH savy), so I don't want to create P styles for lists if I don't need them (no output for print required). They are, however, going to be importing quite a bit from Word on an ongoing basis, so I wonder if Li only vs. Li plus P is preferable in that situation (going to do some test Word imports as soon as I get the CSS a little further along). I'm guessing it won't matter either way, but Word import is something I've successfully avoided in all prior projects, so we'll see!
BTW, thanks for pointing out the "Snippets" area of your site... hadn't ever gone there before because I'd assumed it contained info. about the RH Snippets feature :-). You have some great tidbit on there!

  • Way to CAPTURE style and use on existing TEXT?

Lets say you have a document.
You decide GREY works better than RED, so you change the first HEADER to GREY, now I want to change 4 more headers.
Is there a way, like in photoshop/fireworks/indesign, where you can use something like an eyedropper, select the font/color in the document and then apply that style to existing text?
    Thanks!

Under the Format menu, you can use Copy Paragraph Style and Copy Character Style, and then (in the same menu) Paste Style to change text. (You can also add icons for these menu items to the toolbar -- in the View menu, choose Customize Toolbar.)
That said, you will likely be happier if you use named paragraph styles, and apply them to the text you have. That way, if you have headings all in the same style, a change to one will (potentially) change all of them. See the Pages help for information on styles.

  • How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?

    Hi,
In Report builder 10g, I would like to create a Report with Form Line Style and this report included a Image field.
I can choose this Style only when Select Report type is Paper Layout. Because, If I choose Create both Web & Paper Layout or Create Web Layout only then in the next Style tab 03 option Form, Form letter and Mailing Label be Disabled.
But in Paper Layout, my report can not display Image field.
I tried with Web layout and all the other Styles (Except 03 mentioned be Disabled) then all Styles are displayed Imager field OK.
How to create a report in Form line Style and can display Image field?
I was change File Format property of my Image field from text to Image already in Property Inspector. But report only showed MM for my Image field.
    Thanks & regards,

Here you go..Just follow these steps blindly and you are done.
    1) Create a year prompt with presentation variable as pv_year
    2) Create a report say Mid report with year column selected 3 times
    - Put a filter of pv_year presentation variable on first year column with a default value say @{pv_year}{2008}
    - Rename the second time column say YEAR+1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)+1
    - Rename the second time column say YEAR-1 and change the fx to CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)-1
Now when you will run Mid Report, this will give you a records with value as 2008 2009 2007
    3) Create your main report with criteria as Year and Measure col
    - Change the fx for year column as CAST(TIME_DIM."YEAR" AS INT)
    - Now put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
Relationship = greater than or equal to any
Saved Request = Browse Mid Report
Use values in Column = YEAR-1
    - Again, put a filter on year column with Filter based on results of another request and select these:
Relationship = less than or equal to any
Saved Request = Browse Mid Report (incase it doesn't allow you to select then select any other request first and then select Mid Report)
Use values in Column = YEAR+1
This will select Year > = 2007 AND Year < = 2009. Hence the results will be for year 2007,2008,2009
    This will 100% work...

  • How do you have the bottom stroke of a table show up using Table Styles and Cell Styles only?

I am using InDesign CS6, and I want to create a Table Style that has the bottom stroke show up, but does not have a table border, such as:
However, whenever I try to change the Table or Cell strokes so that the last stroke shows up, I get the entire table border, or some strange combination of borders:
Does anyone have any insight on how I can get the bottom stroke to show up while preserving my other stroke properties? Since I work with long documents, it's necessary to be able to control all of my tables through Table Styles and Cell Styles, and not by manually changing each and every table with the Stroke palette.
For reference, here are the my current Table Style properties and the resulting table:

Michael Murphy is the InDesign style-meister. He wrote "Adobe InDesign Styles" for Adobe Press, and did a great Lynda.com title on InDesign styling. Here's what he says in the book:
"As mentioned at the beginning of this chapter, with all the power of table and cell styles, it is important to understand not only how they work and what they can do for you, but also to understand their limitations.
"Two formatting features missing in table and cell styles have already been discussed: You will always have to set the column width and row height of cells when applying a table style for the first time, and you will always have to convert body rows to header and/or footer rows every time you apply a table style for first time or update the table's data....
"But there's another kind of limitation that's important to keep in mind as you are designing tables: It is very easy to design a table that cannot be completely defined by a table style. In many cases, you'll need to define an extra cell style or two that lets you complete for formatting. [my emphasis]."
So I think that's what you have to do: Apply another cell style on top of the cells at the bottom of the table after applying the table style.

  • Style and encoding in XI SOAP Adapter

    Hello all,
when describing a SOAP web service with WSDL using SOAP binding, there are two parameters affecting how SOAP messages are formatted:
a.) style (may be 'document' or 'rpc')
b.) encoding (may be 'literal' or 'encoded')
Is there any information about what styles and encodings are supported by the XI SOAP Adapter? I looked in the help and in the FAQ OSS note, but didn't find it...
I made some tests and could only get the combination document/literal to work. Is this the only supproted combination?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Matthias

    Hi
    There are other combinations also.
A WSDL SOAP binding can be either a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) style binding or a document style binding. A SOAP binding can also have an encoded use or a literal use. This gives you four style/use models:
    1.RPC/encoded
    2.RPC/literal
    3.Document/encoded
    4.Document/literal
Add to this collection a pattern which is commonly called the document/literal wrapped pattern and you have five binding styles to choose from when creating a WSDL file.
    Please go through the link:
    http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/webservices/library/ws-whichwsdl/
This contains all the scenarios mentioned above.
    Hope this helps you out.

seems to lack this very important feature which helps to re-inforce
the use of CSS over font tags.

I absolutely agree, and none of the alternative methods
people suggested in that thread matched this lost feature for speed
    and ease of use.
I've not seen a replacement for these commands in Dreamweaver
8 either (although I've often wished for one). Does anyone know of
a hidden feature that exists in version 8 for removing all the HTML
    formatting in one fell swoop?

    I count 4 steps.
    1. Copy the entire line
    2. Paste into notepad
    3. Copy the entire line
    4. Paste into DW
That does it nicely no matter how much presentational markup
    there is.

  • GTK Styles and Fonts module

Having just got my fonts sorted out in KDE I have set-up a user login for my wife and gone through similar steps to give her a desktop that she can start working with. However, if I go into the KDE Control Centre - Appearance & Themes - GTK Styles and Fonts and then select "Use another font" under the GTK Fonts section and click "Apply", move elsewhere in the Cntrol Centre and then return, my changes have not been saved! I have repeated the process several times (and it works in my own login) but it will not save the option.
Anyone else had this odd behaviour - I assume it must be a bug?

  • Needless inline styles and span tags

    OS: Win XP SP 2
    Product: RoboHelp HTML 6
    Output: WebHelp
I am finding some instances of needless inline styles and
span tags in some topics in a project. Around these problematic
instances are plenty of instances that have no problem. I used
non-problematic instances as guides for correcting the problematic
instances. Fortunately, RH hasn't overwritten any of my
    corrections.
I am concerned about the insertion of needless inline styles
and span tags at two levels. First, I see them as indicators of
inconsistency. Whether the inconsistency is in myself or in RH, I
don't know (but I want to eliminate it). Second, needless code is
wasteful (esp., wastes time in code view).
Has anybody seen this before? Does anyone know or suspect a
    cause?
    SAMPLE 1
    RH6 created: <p><span><span
    style="font-weight: normal;">blah blah yaddi
    yaddi</span></span></p>
    I corrected: <p>blah blah yaddi yaddi</p>
    SAMPLE 2
    RH6 created: <p style="font-weight: normal;"><span
    style="font-weight: normal;">blah blah yaddi
    yaddi</span></p>
    I corrected: <p>blah blah yaddi yaddi</p>
    SAMPLE 3
    RH6 created: <p style="font-weight: bold;"><span
    style="font-weight: bold;">blah blah yaddi
    yaddi</span></p>
    I corrected: <p style="font-weight: bold;"><>blah
    blah yaddi yaddi</p>

Some of this has to do with how users have applied styles in
WYSIWYG mode; for example, if you double click a word (which
selects the space after) and apply Bold, then later select the word
by dragging the cursor to select only the word (which doesn't
select the space after), RH will usually surround the selected
characters with "normal" span tags and often leave the bold in
    place.
This same type of style formatting might have been repeatedly
done in the original form that might have been imported (Word,
Frame, etc.). So, then, if you compound the code bloat from an
imported file with additional formatting in RH, well you do the
    math.
I've seen code wherein a six-word sentence might be saddled
with as many as 10-12 SPAN tags and might stretch into 6-7 lines of
    code!
However, these are still flat files, not binary; you'd need a
ton of extra code to increase the aggregate file size a lot. Heck,
your graphics will usually take more room than your topics. One of
our child projects has 153 .htm files at 3.25 MB, whereas the
aggregate of .gif, .jpg, and .bmp graphics exceed 4 MB. My view has
always been this: until the underlying code affects the format I
expect to see in my output, I consider extra SPAN and KADOV tags to
    be nothing but white noise.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Access the styles and defined names of an excel sheet in apps for office

    Hi Everyone,
Can you please let me know how to access the styles and defined names of an excel sheet in apps for office ?
Technologies/language  used:office JS ,Jquery and apps for office
any help in this is highly appreciated
    Thanks!!
    Santosh Sutar

    Hi,
I’m not sure if I understand your question correctly, so please correct me if I have any misunderstandings.
For the defined names, I assume you mean the named range. If so, you can create the binding to the named range through
    Bindings.addFromNamedItemAsync method.
For the styles, I think the article below may give you some help.
How to: Format tables in apps for Excel
By the way, there are no methods to iterate the styles and named range through the current Office JavaScript API.
If this is a feature you want to include in future versions of Office JavaScript API, please submit a feedback to
    Office Development Platform User Voice.

    Hi,
I am trying to customize OBIEE 11g style and skin. I followed the steps mentioned at http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/12/oracle-bi-ee-11g-styles-skins-custom-xml-messages/ and also in oracle white paper http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi/customizing-oracle-biee-11g-176387.pdf.
I am not able to see any images on any OBIEE screens. After login, I can see the name of skin which i have created as the default skin but login page images, header images (after login) are not coming up. Can you please provide solution?
P.S. I have not changed any images or any css files in the custom skin and style directory. I just wanted to know first whether the new skin/style works for me. If it works, then i will apply some sort of customization.

That is correct. Also remember to delete browser cache. Here you have the folders: Re: how to insert the picture in the dashboard of BIEE

Usually most applications are already available in the main repositories or in the AUR, so when you're looking for a specific application, you should always check these two places first. There's also a command-line tool called `pkgfile' (from the pkgtools package) for searching for specific files, but it only works with the main (i.e.: binary) repositories.
