Styling Links Tracked by Google Analytics

Hi everyone --
I'm tracking a site using Google Analytics. I'm taking
advantage of one of
GA's tools by tracking a 3rd party shopping cart. So far so
good. But
here's where I need help with 2 things.
First, how do I make the links in the code (around line 30)
for users
with/without JavaScript enabled follow my CSS styles; and
how do I do I make the rest of the line display --"or learn
more about the
race."?
Here's a link to the page:

Thanks,
John

Hi David
did you ever sort this?
many thanks

  • Query parameters in BC and setting up Site Search tracking in Google Analytics

    I would like to enable site search tracking in Google Analytics for a non-eCommerce BC site but I do not know what query parameters I need to use to enable site search tracking - can anyone help?!
    I can turn Site search tracking 'on' in Analytics but it requires the query parameters to be entered e.g. 's' or 'q'. I have the option of selecting 'strip query parameters out of URL' but I'm not sure what this does and what needs to be done in the backend of BC?
    Usually, when an internal search is done within a website (and in this case it is www.newcastleairport.com.au), the URL will indicate the parameters by adding a 'en&q' in the URL. To test what metric would be used for the Airport, I did a search on 'annual report' and the following URL came up (not containing an en&q)
    http://www.newcastleairport.com.au/Default.aspx?SiteSearchID=1012&ID=/travellers-search-re sult#.U3A3HmQ-JU0
    Any help would be appreciated. There was a previous discussion re this subject but it remained unanswered but there was a suggestion around using javascript within a web app?
    Cheers

    Hi Sebastian and Manas,
    I am trying to set up a hybrid environment and followed the blog posts. Everything was set up as per the guidelines mentioned but still I am not able to fetch any results from SharePoint Online inside my on-premise environment.
    There are no errors coming as such. Its just that my on-premise is showing no results from SPO. However if the same user logs on into the Office 365 SPO site he is able to see SPO search results. That means there is no permission related issue specific to
    test user.
    I am totally out of ideas now. In case you have faced similar issues while setting up the same then any pointers to troubleshoot would be very helpful.

  • Tracking with google analytics

    We have a desktop app we have built with air, and the client
    has requested usage statistics to see how much people are using
    it... What I'm wondering is what is the best way to monitor the
    usage? We already use google analytics on their website... I'm
    wondering if we can use it from inside the AIR app as well. If so
    how would you go about doing that?
    I thought about loading an external web page off the web
    server that had the analytics tracking on it and displaying that on
    the app somewhere... What would that show up like in google
    analytics?

    Hi p-dog
    I am Paul Sanderson - the creator of Air Analytics: http://www.airanalytics.net/

  • Data tracking with Google Analytics

    Hi
    Can I use Google Analytics with iweb?

    Yes. You can add it to each page using iWeb SEO which requires it to be reapplied each time you edit a page.
    You can also add it an HTML snippet which is a one time application. However, the snippet requires a bit more effort up front. Wyodor posted detailed instructions on how: IWEB : ADDING GOOGLE ANALYTICS WITHOUT EDITING THE WEBPAGE.
    Have you looked at the information that you can get about visitors by using a counter from StatCounter.com. It's quite comprehensive and much easier to add to each page.
    Click to view full size
    Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet describes how to add the counter.
    I've used both and find the info from StatCounter more complete regarding visitors.

  • Source tracking on Google Analytics or StatCounter

    I have tried Wyodor's method of insertion of GA and have also installed Statcounter. Both of these were successful in the sense that I can see the city, and which pages were looked at, BUT all of my Source is listed at 'Direct'
    To get referrals to my site, I like to embedded by link 'http://www.e2photo.net' onto facebook ads or craigslists ads and etc. I am suspecting that when I do that, a page on my site is hit and then referred to my welcome page. This will appear as a "Direct' hit is my guess.
    So my question is simple. How do I embedded the GA or Statcounter code into that initial landing page when people click my link?

    How did you put the GA and Statcounter codes in iWeb?
    This video shows you the proper way of adding these codes to your website

  • How to use Event Tracking Code for Google Analytics in Dreamweaver CS5

    I need to track clicks on links that go to an outside website. I've read about "event tracking code". I'm not sure if it's the right tool to use. And if it is, I've spent several hours reading about it and I can't figure out how to use it. It looks like you need to be an expert developer to be able to make sense of all this. I've always been helped when I ask a question here, I'm hoping that someone can help me.
    What my client needs is to know what links are being clicked, and how often. Here's the page where I want to do this: Available Homes - Arizona Vacation Home Rentals
    I added a code that I created using the tool I found here: General Event Tracking Code for Google Analytics but can't see to be able to make this work. I added this code to the first link called "View it Here" for the top, left house. Here's the code: <a href="http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p3495538" onClick="ga('send', 'event', { eventCategory: 'clicks', eventAction: 'clicks on homes', eventLabel: 'Clicked'});" target="_blank">View it HERE!</a>
    Then I set a Goal in Google Analytics like it said in the instructions but it doesn't seem to work... I would APPRECIATE ANY HELP!
    Thanks,
    Brigitte

    I think you misunderstood what Event Tracking is designed for.  This is from Google Help
    Tracking Code: Event Tracking - Google Analytics — Google Developers
    "Use this to track visitor behavior on your website that is NOT related to a web page visit, such as interaction with a Flash video movie control or any user event that does not trigger a page request."
    Clicks on links are page requests.  I think for your purposes, you may want the Cross Domain Link Tracking plugin.

  • Why does DW CC 2014.1 Fluid Grid load HTML file that contains Google Analytics Tracking Code script so slowly?

    I exclusively work in Fluid Grid since my site is a Responsive Web Design.  I'm having trouble with slow load time in DW CC 2014.1, when my file, as they all do of course, has the Google Analytics Tracking Code script.
    I'm on a Windows 8.1 using a Dell Precision M3800 Laptop with Memory 16GB (2x8GB) 1600MHz DDR3 . Each of our site's 180 or so web pages, of course, has its Google Analytics Tracking Code script. It is placed, following Google instructions, as the last entry in the <head>.  Google Analytics does not instruct to place the script in the JS Folder with an scr to it, but rather in the <head>.  It takes up to one and a half or two minutes for DW CC 2014.1 to load the Google Analytics Tracking Code script .  That is, the grid does not show in Live View until finally analytics.js shows up in the Document Toolbar. A minute or two can add up when every page you load takes this long.  And, making new Fluid Grid pages, as is done, through the Save As command; every new page made you have to deal with the minute or two wait time since all those pages have the Google Analytics Tracking Code script.  Therefore, this time component alone, assuming I'm accessing and/or making 20 pages per week (and in our business this is easily the case) the math is that I'm wasting between 17 and 35 hours per year just with DW CC 2014.1 loading the much needed Google Analytics Tracking Code script.
    I have loaded HTML files that do not have the Google Analytics Tracking Code script as a test and those files load at the normal quick speed.
    Therefore, the new Chromium Embedded Framework browser engine has a serious load problem when it confronts an HTML5 file with a Google Analytics Tracking Code script.  Oddly, the prior DW CC 2014 version, with the old browser engine did not have this slow-load problem since I was loading these same files in that DW CC version up until October 8th or so.
    I think this new browser engine is a Google platform that apparently has a problem rendering or loading a Google Analytics Tracking Code script.  That makes no sense.
    Anyone else had this particular slow-load problem with DW CC 2014.1?
    Thanks.

    Wow.  That sure solved the slow-load problem, at least using your suggested snippet in a simple test HTML file.
    Per Google's instructions, I pasted the snippet before the closing </head> tag.  And, even in that positioning in the file; the file loaded at the speed (about one second) that it did prior to DW 2014.1.
    Two questions.
    Will this snippet provide the same tracking data as my current GA snippet?
    Because my current GA snippet is in about 200 web pages, can I retain the old snippet in most of them and place the new snippet in my approximately 5 main web pages as well as my templates so my new pages, as well as my main pages, have the new snippet.  That is, can I have both snippets (i.e. old snippet in earlier pages and new snippet in main pages and new pages to be made going forward) in my website at the same time?
    Of course I would not have both the old and new snippet in a web page at the same time.
    I greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can provide me on this issue and thank all of you in advance.
    I've provided code for both simple test files below.

  • On Firefox 3.6.x on Mac and Windows, Google Analytics tracking code leads to an Error 400 page

    Our business sent out an email campaign that has several links containing Google Analytics tracking code in the URL.
    In the tracking code, which is automatically generated via the email campaign software, is an em-dash. The URLs works in every browser (Google Chrome, Safari, Windows) and in older versions of FireFox. They do not work in 3.6.x versions of FireFox in both Mac and Windows.
    As a result, when customers click on a link in the email, they get a page that says "HTTP Error 400 - request is badly formed" because FireFox interprets the em-dash as garbage.
    Once this error occurs none of the pages in the site can be accessed unless a specific cookie is removed.
    Seeing how many people do not know how to clear cookies - it is especially cryptic in the Windows version of FF 3.6.10 - what are the chances that there will be a release of Firefox to remedy this problem? And is there anything else that could be done?

    Weird. We are having this same problem as well. Ours happens in Chrome as well. What I have figured out is -at least for us - is its somethign to do with the Google Analytics tracking cookie on our site. If I go to cookies and then delete the _umtz cookie, the site will load fine. In the time being I have set "pageTracker._setCampaignTrack(false); " in our tracking code to keep the script from dropping the cookie in users browsers.

  • Google Analytics, PDF Tracker, where does code go?

    okay, so I've installed Google Analytics on my website using Automator. I still have about 12 hours to go to see if it works. In the mean time, I'm trying to figure out how to track the number of times a pdf file on my site is downloaded. I found a google analytics script i'm supposed to insert on my pdf link, but where is this in my files?

  • Google Analytics and tracking unique downloads

    I have a resource page with .pdfs and .ppts
    What do I need to do to track if a user clicks on these links?
    Is there also an extra step I need to take to track if they successfully downloaded the target completely?
    I heard one solution is to make a single sub-web page for each download item and stick an analytics snippet in to the page as one way to track, but this sounds tedious and not very efficient. Is there something that can track this on the fly?
    Thanks!

    Here's a solution that may work. Just tried it today. May see results tomorrow.
    Get the Google analytics code.
    Open TextEdit and set it to plaintext.
    Paste the code WITHOUT these opening and closing tags :
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    // -->
    </script>
    Save the file as analytics.js
    Put the file on the server and determine the URL to it.
    Create a blank page (for testing) and paste this code in a HTML Snippet.
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var headID = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0];
    var newScript = parent.document.createElement('script');
    newScript.type = 'text/javascript';
    newScript.src = '../js/analytics.js';
    headID.appendChild(newScript);
    // -->
    </script>
    Where it says *newScript.src = '../js/analytics.js';* use your own URL.
    Publish the page.
    Visit your page and open the Activity window in Safari (Comand-Option-A)
    Note the 2 URLs to Google. They look the same as with code that is pasted in a page.
    Tomorrow check with Google to see if your page appears in the stats.
    Call your friends and family and tell them to visit the page. More visitors may show more results.
    If it works, fine.
    If not, then I'm mistaken and will sob in a corner.

  • Techie Question about iWeb, outbound links, and Google Analytics

    Hi,
    I have a kind of pretty technical question about using Google Analytics (GA) with iWeb sites to measure clicks on outbound links. Here's the setup:
    1) My website's online, and GA is working properly.
    2) I don't sell stuff directly, but I do have a "Purchase" page which contains a link to a specific Amazon page.
    3) I'm pretty sure I can measure how many people go to the Purchase page using GA, but how do I measure whether visitors click on the Amazon link? It would be interesting to me to be able to gauge what the conversion rate is; that is, how many people actually proceed to purchase the product at Amazon.
    I've checked the GA instructions and there's a page about manually tracking clicks on outbound links but it requires some code inputting. I know zero about coding, but I'm pretty sure that in iWeb you can't get access to the source code to input the required code.
    Am I wrong about this? And if I am, then does anyone here know how to measure the clickthrough rate?
    Anyway, hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

    I don't know about the link tracking but you could have the link take you to a redirect page which automatically sends them to Amazon.com after a preset time, 0 seconds to whatever you'd like. You can put a counter on that redirect page, like StatCounter. StatCounter can tell you how many, from where they came, i.e country and area, repeat visits, etc.
    Tutorials #12 & #13 describe how to put a visible counter on a page but with a redirect page you wouldn't have to bother since it wouldn't be seen. You can get all of your information from your account on the StatCounter site.
    The redirect page would be a simple plain text page titled redirect.html and would look like this:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="refresh"
    content="0; Destination URL">
    <title>Redirecting or whatever you'd like to appear at the top of the browser</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    </body>
    </html>
    0 Is the number of seconds to wait before redirecting the visitor. If set to zero the visitor would not know they were being redirected. Replace Destination URL with the Amazon URL you want them to go to.

  • Tracking button clicks viewable in google analytics?

    Hello! I'd like to be able to track how many people clicked the 'learn more' button within my animation, and then how far along they got in the animation. Ideally, I'd love for this information to appear in my google analytics, but any useful output would be a huge help!
    Any advice? Here's the animation: http://www.insightpd.com/what-we-do/
    I'm just using simple symbols that control the timeline, nothing fancy. The leanr more button on to get it started, and then the 'button' on the left to advance through the show are the ones i'd love to track.
    Thanks in advance for your time!
