Stylus rmx using up alot of ram???????

i have bought a new mac pro, with 2 gigs of ram, i found out that everytime i open a stylus rmx, it "*****" about 200 mb of ram.......which is alot, and i can only have about 6 or 7 open, then my system starts to REALLY SLOW DOWN......this is okay, i can bounce. but on my old mac G5, i could open 20, no problem........
Does anyone know if there is a way to regulate the amount of ram stylus rmx uses?????
or maybe its a bug in the new intel version of stylus rmx???
CHEERS

hi Lars
just a question: Have you been using separate instances of rmx (on different audio inst tracks) or in multi inst mode? The latter would use a lot less ram.
Sorry if that's obvious. Hope it helps,
Rounik

  • Stylus RMX on MPB 2.2 ghz 4 GB RAM???

    Hi all,
I’m thinking of getting Stylus RMX for use in Logic 8. I’m running a Macbook Pro 2.2 ghz with 4 GB RAM. On a typical song, I have about 5 or 6 audio tracks with effects, 1 or 2 soft synths running (UB, EXS24), and 4 aux busses with verbs and delays.
Was wondering if anyone here with my setup was running Stylus RMX without hiccups and excessive memory hit. – have read in a couple of posts that it strains CPU pretty hard. I’m thinking of using it to replace UB, and hoping it won’t bog the Mac down.
    Thanks for your insight.

    Get it, you'll be fine.
If you insist on running 8 parts, with multiple edit groups, and put multiple FX chains on each edit group it will strain any computer. But under "normal" use, it's fine.

  • ANYBODY HERE USE STYLUS RMX? IM HAVING TROUBLE

Why cant I load my drum loops from my library into the mixer and get all the drums on different tracks? I can do it with the mulitis and get everything seperated, but not with my loops that I put in my favorit folder or any loops from my directory. Any help would be great thanx.

Why cant I load my drum loops from my library into the mixer and
get all the drums on different tracks?
    Because you don't know how?
Each of the 8 Stylus parts responds to one midi channel (channels 1-8 respectively).
The RMX setup videos on your RMX disks show you how to configure RMX and Logic so you can use this - I suggest you watch it through and set it up exactly.
In short, create a multiinstrument in the environment and cable it to the audio instrument that RMX is instantiated on. Assign those 8 subchannels of that multiinstrument to arrange tracks, and you have your eight tracks that control each of Stylus RMX's parts.

  • Stylus RMX not working correctly.

I have been using this plug in on PPC machine with Logic Pro 8.0.1 before. After I upgraded my system to MBP, I open up this project, and Stylus RMX track won't play multi-channel regions. I don't mean the multi-output.
I have setup 5 channels and 5 tracks, all assigned to corresponding MIDI channels. The problem is that only the MIDI region on channel 1 plays, and it triggers all 5 channels! On top of that, if I mute the channel 1 track, rest of the track (2-5) won't trigger the sample at all. Another problem is that even though RMX is set to sliced beats, it plays the whole **** loop, as if it were on groove mode.
This is really annoying and the whole production is halted just because of this one plug-in error. Could someone please help me?
    My system:
    MBP 2.4G
    4GB ram
    Leopard 10.5.2
    Logic Pro 8.0.1
    Stylus 1.6.0
PS : everything worked just fine with my previous system.....

    Hi G,
I suppose you have the last drivers (universal) for RMX?
    What did spectrasonics say?

  • Stylus RMX and Logic Express

    Hello,
I'm using stylus rmx with LE. I'm stuck. I'm tryin to create a "multi-track", (I believe thats what its called). Right now I'm following a instructional dvd and the instructor just wire 8 tracks to 1 in the enviro window. So I followed and drew all the wires to the 8 inputs. Then back in the arrange window, (and heres where I get lost). He fella goes to the "track" option and selects " create with new instrument". Now he creates * tracks from the 1 pug in. I'm assuming that he's using Logic Pro because I dont have that option. Is there another way to acheive this without that option ?

This doesn't sound right. You should be creating a multi-instrument in the Environment with 8 channels enabled, not 8 individual instruments. There only needs to be one multi-instrument assigned to a single instrument track (one wire) in the environment. Make sure to assign the midi channel to "all" for the instrument object, but enable the first 8 channels on the multi-instrument object.
Then, when you're back in the Arrange page, you can create a new instrument track for the Stylus L/R audio output and then create new midi tracks assigned as sub-channels to Stylus. Each sub-channel will then control a different part in Stylus.
There is a Quicktime video you can download for free from Spectrasonics that walks you through setting up Stylus in Logic. Maybe your DVD makes it harder than it needs to be...

  • Can't open Stylus RMX in GB

I followed the instructions in the Spectrasonics Knowledge Base at
    http://support.spectrasonics.net/viewtopic.php?t=150
and I can select Stylus RMX as a generator, but when I click on the pencil icon (to the right of "manual"), the Mac "bouncing ball" rotates for a while, but no RMX window opens. Also, the drop-down menu on "manual" only shows "Pres 0:Preset 0".
The problem is not just with RMX (v. 1.5.1c), but oddly, some Virtual Instruments load okay in GB and some don't. I think it may have something to do with how presets/libraries are loaded & handled in GB.
FM7, for instance, loads fine, but with no graphic interface, just a list of 127 presets. Tassman loads with the GUI but the top part is obscured by GB's menu bar. Albino & Lounge Lizard won't load at all, Absynth 3 loads with a User bank.
My RMX library has a lot of presets, so maybe that's too much for GB. RMX works fine in Logic, of course. I'd love to use it in GB, too!

I'm not sure about the size when it was open, only that the layered tiff is now 2.33GB. I've worked with larger files with more layers than this one and haven't had a problem. But then again, I used to save those as PSBs instead of tiffs. For no particular reason, I decided to try to save most files in tiff rather than psb where possible. I've never had a problem with larger PSBs.
I have an internal scratch disk with about 750GB of free space - it's not set up with a separate scratch partition though. Perhaps I should do that.
I just created a similar file that is 2.45GB when closed (according to the Finder info) and 3.11GB when opened (according to PS). After several closes/opens there seems to be no problem. When viewing the tiff file in TextEdit, the date is correct.
So at this point, I still can't open the 2.33GB file that seems to have had the wrong XMP data written, but I can open up a slightly larger file. I'm wondering if it is in fact just the EXIF data that's causing the problem. The progress bar while reading tiff format gets to about 60% before the error message appears.
I can open the file from Lightroom if I open it as a copy with LR adjustments applied, but that flattens the file. If all else fails I'll be able to work from there. Trying to avoid that since there were some layer elements I wanted to either remove or modify.
One other note: I did download some new brushes for this project and loaded them into PS. I've gone back and reset them to the default set in case there was some issue related to a corrupt abr file (just reaching here....); but the file still won't open.
Still hoping the layered file can be saved but am out of ideas.

    Hi
Sounds like you may have moved the RMX library folder?
Is RMX fully updated (for Lion)?
Check your hard drives for a file called SAGE:
It (or an alias of it) is normally found in the <USER>:Library:Application Support:Spectrasonics.
Note that on Lion, the <User> Library is 'hidden'... quickest way to get there is to hold down Option (Alt) whilst using the Finder:Go menu

  • Stylus RMX to L7 question

    Hi all
I am using Stylus RMX in L7.1, and currently have six tracks in RMX’s “mixer” page which I have set up in RMX, and want to play as 6 different Audio Instrument tracks in L7.1. I have no problem with copying over the midi files, but they play all back in L7 using the same voicing rather than as individual voices. I am missing something, can you spot the error?
    cheers

    Good morning Alex,
Here's an expanded version of my second easier(?!) method to try.
1>Select an audioInst in the arrange window. In the audioInst info box (on the left side above the fader window) select "Midi C:" and drag the #1 down until it reads "all"
2>Open RMX as a Multi on that same audio Inst.
3>Select a groove element that you want in RMX 1(click to highlite the "1" button in the lower part of the RMX Plug-in window).
4>Drag and drop the midi groove into the AudioInst track you're using for RMX.
5>Click on the next track in the arrange window and open it as the SAME AudioInst again. ie: if you used AudioInst 1 in step 1 above open AudioInst 1 again below it.
6>repeat step 3 only click the "2" button on the RMX plug-in window instead of "1" and then select a groove element.
7>Click on the "mixer" button of the RMX window. Leave element 1 on output "A". Change element 2's output to "B".
8>Go to the Audio mixer in Logic. Find an "Aux" object. Logic defaults to 2 of these and they're usually between the row of AudioInst tracks and the Bus tracks. In Aux 1 click on the "input" button (the upper button in the I/O area). In the selector window that opens you'll see "Input >", "Bus>" and at the bottom "Instrument 1>". clicking on the "Instrument 1" area will open and you'll see "Stylus RMX 3", Stylus RMX 4 etc.. up to #16. If your Aux object is set to be Stereo you'll see "Stylus RMX 3-4", 5-6 etc down to 15-16.
9> Once you select "Stylus RMX 3-4", ANY groove element that is set to output "B" in the RMX mixer page shows up at this Aux object and NOT at AudioInst 1.
10> Continue adding more of the same AudioInst tracks to the arrange window in logic and using the Aux tracks to seperate out RMX's outputs. You can assign the Aux's to whatever outputs in Logic you want even the same as the original AudioInst if you want. Levels, pans etc can be set from the RMX mixer page.
11> Before you ask: NO you cannot access seperate outputs from a "Multi" inst without using the Aux tracks. Thats just the way it is with Logic for now 8^)
The reason this may not be the preferred method for everyone is things get confusing in the arrange window with a whole pile of the SAME AudioInst tracks and if you want to edit the groove (midi info) you have to change the midi channel of the AudioInst from "All" to the number of the groove element in RMX then change it back to "All" to be able to hear all the elements again. If you're never altering the groove elements outside of RMX and just want to hear the outputs seperated this method could be okay for you.
My apologies if I stated the obvious in some of the steps. When trying to explain something like this you never know how much the other person knows or understands already.
Hope this works (it did for me and I was doing the steps as I wrote about them)

  • Stylus rmx and logic studio 8

i need help asap pleasseee...i am using 8 tracks multi timbral for stylus rmx...and everything is good but there is one problem, anytime i do anything to one track it does it to the other...for example: if i mute one of the tracks then it mutes all of them....i want to have full control of each individuak channel....does anybody no the solution for this...thanx

Yes creating the RMX as a multi is the best solution. Depending on how you are using RMX, a multi may be the best solution.
A work around is to create a stereo RMX and make several copies of it.
As you work with RMX on each of its channels, drag the midi file from RMX to an empty Logic RMX slot. If you open the event list to the right of arrange, you will see, that each corresponding channel from the RMX, is on a different midi channel. So although all your several tracks of RMX are the same, (make sure RMX is set to ALL channel), each individual track on the arrange pages is sending on a different midi channel
So if you want to isolate one channel, to edit or to mix one individual part out - mute the others out either on the RMX. or Highlight the REGIONS on the arrange page and mute them. Do not mute module or you will get no sound..
You do get fuller control if you set up a multi channel instance of RMX (say you want to eq, and compress each track of RMX individuallly in Logic) - but you have to go an extra step to turn each individual track into seperate audio, so sometimes the above is easier
Remember that RMX has it's own EFX plug-in for each channel also - so you may not neccessarily have to use Logic's.

  • Help with Stylus RMX please

    Hi!
    Please tell me somebody
    How use RMX in Logic?
I open it on Instrument tr1 - for use chanel 1
Then ,assign Instr 2 to 1 and change MIDI chanel to 2
But when i play (hat for exmpl),sounds like double with chorus
    What i do wrong?
And i cant see RMX outputs in mixer (of course i open it as multitrack)
    Please HELP!

This is explained, step by step, in the "Using Stylus RMX in Logic" tutorial video on your Stylus DVD, and it's easier watching someone do it on screen than type it out here step by step.
In short, create a multi-instrument, cable it to your audio instrument that contains RMX, and access channels 1 to 8 using the multi subinstruments.
    Now go watch the tutorial

  • Stylus RMX advice for a rookie please

    Hi Everyone,
I've added Stylus RMX to my studio and I'm begining to finally get this wonderful plug-in. I'm currently shopping around for a good hardware controller that can really allow me to have complete hands-on control. I currently have an O2 but I really need at least 8 sliders or endless encoders, as well as keys.
What are some of the controllers that y'all use with RMX?
I'm looking carefully at the Novation remote 25 SL, M-Audio Axiom 25 & Trigger finger.
Please also share your preference for doing drums if you desire.
    Best,
    SX

Oh yeah, I also wanted to ask if anyone is using any of the S.A.G.E. Xpanders, and if so, which are worth getting if your into electronic/dance music.
    Best,
    SX

  • Stylus rmx/atmosphere gone after reloading tiger?

    Hello,
I had to reinstall tiger for an unrelated problem, but when I open logic 7, and on the tracks where I used stylus rmx or atmosphere, the tab is x'ed out and it seems as though the link between logic and stylus is broken? Any suggestions?
im using tiger and logic 7 i believe.

    Hi Manny,
try to make alias folders of both rmx and atmosphere and drag the alias to the new system,
search in the manual where to drop the alias.
Also, Spectrasonics forum may help you more in case you need it.
    Cheers,

  • Stylus RMX & Konkakt 2 [Mutli Threading error]

I've been using logic 8 with no problems until I get a [Multi threading error] with Stylus RMX & Kontakt 2
I've got 8 gigs of memory & an Intel quad running VSL & ESX,... 52 trks no issue,.... I also tried the "new" 1.6.1 update for Stylus,.. no good
anyone else having this problem ?
    thanks,
    Paul

I am now getting some nasty instability problems putting a whole film score into one session with multiple cues. Up to a certain point it was ok, but now I'm getting multithreading errors in which both Reaktor MFX, Sculpture, and ES2 are named specifically in the error dialog.
I also find that if I do any editing operation whatsoever while logic is playing, I get the spinning beachball and have to force quit. I have to do any tweaking with the transport stopped.
Logic 8 is not free from issues...

  • Stylus RMX - importing your own sounds?

After buying Stylus RMX I was disappointed to learn that I need ReCycle in order to import my own sounds/loops.
Does anybody know of a way to do this without using ReCycle?
    Thanks.

recycle doesn't cost much and its the best way to convert all your samples
if you ask me its better than using apple loops utility to convert your audio to apple loops
pay a little for the best or use a free apple loops utility for a standard loops
    stash
i guarantee you won't be disappointed

Like there is in Final Cut Pro -is there a way to "reconnect media" so that Logic understands and recognizes the new path??
