SU 2006-002v1.0 vs1.1

My poor brain is addlepated. I've tracked this for hours now, guess there was nothing better to do. P~)
To keep this simple.
SU 2006-002v1.0 is installed 3/13/06 3.03 pm and working fine.
SU 2006-002v1.1 never showed up in Software Update.
Any point in installing 1.1????
Green and Gold stars will be awarded when I reach a consensus decision with consideration of comment quality and position in the thread. (earliest 1st, d'oh)
May be of value to others as perplexed as I am.

I can't find my way back to the article just now but I a spokesman for Apple told the interviewer that the 1.1 update was to fix a problem with Safari when the user had moved Safari out of the Applications folder. In that case Safari wouldn't launch after the security update from the dock. This 1.1 version fixed only that particular problem and nothing else. Otherwise it's identical to the original and those who installed the original update without this problem don't need to apply the 1.1 version.
Obviously it won't hurt anything if you do apply it but that's why it's not showing up in Software Update for those who applied the first version. So said the Apple spokesman.
This clears things up for me, at least.

  • Case Cracks White MacBook (2006)

I have observed cracks on my white macbook (Late 2006 model) case (both insde & out side). Everytime I take an appointment with the Genius, they say that they are so busy to replace the case and they might need at least 3-5 business days. Since I did not have an alternate computer, I have delayed a bit. Now that I recently got a iMac, I would like to turn in my macbook for repair. Not sure if apple has spares to repair the cracked outer shells. Any idea how long and how much it costs to get it fixed ? Or can I return my laptop to get some store credit and buy a new Macbook ??

Only Apple would know that.  Also, ask Apple.  Not going to happen.  You can't return a 6 year old mac and expect to get a store credit.  Since the repair volume of the store seems to be high, get an estimate and leave it there for repair if you find the price of repair to be acceptable.

  • Memory upgrade on iMac (Late 2006)

I want to upgrade the memory on my iMac (Late 2006). My present memory is 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I am getting that information from the System Profiler. That (one) module is in one Memory Slot, and the other Memory Slot is empty.
    The manual says the following:
+Your iMac comes with at least 1 GB of Double Data Rate 2 (DDR2) Synchronous+
+Dynamic Random Access (SDRAM) memory installed. You can add 1 or 2 gigabyte (GB)+
+memory modules for a maximum of 3 GB of memory. Memory modules must meet the+
    +following specifications:+
+* Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SO-DIMM) format+
    +* 667 MHz, PC2-5300, DDR2 compliant (also referred to as DDR2 667)+
    +* Unbuffered and unregistered+
And it also says the following:
+Your iMac has a top slot and a bottom memory slot. You can add a memory module to+
+the bottom slot and remove the memory module in the top slot to replace the+
+installed memory. You can add a 1 GB or 2 GB memory module for a maximum of 3 GB+
    +of memory.+
I guess I should just do as Apple suggests and add a 2GB module to the other memory slot, to maximize the total memory in the computer at 3GB. But does anybody have any alternative experiences or suggestions? Should I perhaps add another 1GB module to the other Memory Slot so that they are both equal? Has anybody tried adding 2GB to each Memory Slot? What happens? It seems odd or unbalanced to have a 1GB module and a 2GB module as Apple suggests. Any opinions from people experienced in this would be welcome, and I thank you in advance.

    Hi rosalarose
To check how much memory you have and your memory usage go to: Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and select System Memory.
Your problem sounds more like a Software problem with Safari than a Hardware issue with the Memory. Instead of piggybacking on someone else's thread you should post a New Topic of your own here or in the Safari section of the Forum with a more detailed explanation of your problem.

  • IPod Service Error with iPod installer 2006-06-28

I previously had a Mini but lost it (stolen). I bought a Nano to replace it but could never get it to work. I returned this and purchased a new 30g iPod. Same issues. I get the error message "iPod Service Error" when I open the 2006-06-28 iPod Software Updater. I even get this message whether I have my iPod connected or not. In iTunes, I get the message "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
Well, I've reinstalled iTunes countless times and reinstalled the updater a equal number of times with no luck. I tried all the steps (including links) in:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
I also used msconfig with no luck. I disabled my Norton internet security and antivirus software with no success. I disabled the Fast User Switching and followed someone's advice regarding FAT32, but again no luck.
I tried to read through all the latest discussions and articles I could find, but am now getting confused. Is there anyone out there who has been able to tackle this problem? My alternative is returning my iPod and giving up on iTunes. Help me please!! Thanks.

Thanks for your response and sorry for the delay. I've been traveling. Yes, I did try making another XP user account and got the same results. I have not tried the installer cleanup. What do I do with this utility? I read the instructions from MS, but not sure if I should just highlight the iTunes, iPod, and QuickTime stuff on my PC. Any help would be appreciated.

  • My 2006 MBP 15" has now been erased. How do I install the system again

Because I was having problems with my 2006 MBP 15 " - sudden freezing up,  I tried several ways of fixing it all  without success.
Eventually, I was forced into erasing the 500 GB  harddrive completely using DU from the install disks (Tiger) that came with it
and had hoped I could re-install the system afresh from the original disks.
On start up all I get is the "Welcome page" again and it repeats itself continually. If i select any thing the spinning beach ball
occurs and a forced shutdown is required.
Everytime I do an install, I get to  a "welcome page" and go thru the usual entering of details etc.  but  every time after I get to
clicking on "continue",  when setting up ownership/address,  I get a spinning beachball and can get no further.
This  continually repeats itself and  If i select any thing the spinning beach ball occurs and a forced shutdown is required.
I've tried starting up from an external drive with a firewire cable,  but again nothing constructive happens, but I do get a popup saying
it can't find my "home folder as its not in the right place or its missing completely"
Using DU I have tried to do a restore but some how I'm unable to select either the source or the destination - its either all
or nothing available in the side bar of DU.
It seems to me that whatever I do on the MBP I get the spinning ball and no further - even leaving it for a couple of hours -
    and still spinning.
Can anyone suggest ways of doing an install, please.
    Does it look terminalto you?

The external drive is a bootable one done with SuperDuper.
I am able to do a startup with it but then I get that window saying home folder is missing etc.
Surely i should be able to install the Op/System using the original disks that came with it, or will they only work if there is something on the H/D  to start with. I completely erased it to start withj.
I've just found an Install disk for Tiger I bought in 2006 - perhaps that might work or not.

  • How do I get rid of error code 2001/2006? My phone is in recovery mode. I have tried several different cords, all USB ports, my macbook, and a friends PC. This is the second time my phone has done this, the first time it was an easy fix.

I have an iPhone 4. It is in great condition, always protected. A couple months ago, it randomly went black and wouldn't turn on. I put it in recovery mode, plugged it in to my MacBook Pro and would get error code 2001 then I'd get error code 2006. I read some different forums and many people said to try using a different USB port and different cords. The last cord I tried, worked and my phone was back. Last night, my phone did the same exact thing. So I used the same method I used last time, however nothing has worked. I tried plugging it in to a PC and that didn't work either. This seems like a hopeless problem that's going to continue to happen. Any advice?

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Is there any possible way I can dual boot Windows with OSX 10.7.2 on a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006?

    Hello,
I am new to this forums.
I have searched about dual boot win/mac, but couldn't find a clear answer, so I decided to post this now.
I run a MacBook Pro 15' from 2006 (Intel based) and have upgraded it to OSX 10.7.2 Lion.
I have tried to install windows 7 on a small (20GB) partition by using Bootcamp, but then I've received a notice saying that there was no windows support software available. However, I did install Windows 7 Professional by unchecking that box. After the installation I have downloaded the windows support software and tried to install it but then I've received a notice saying that I can't install it on this machine.
Could you please give me any suggestions on how to dual boot win/mac, if it is possible at all using this machine? And how to safely go back to where I was before (with a single mac OSX 10.7.2 partition)?
    Thanks.

This problem has been solved as I just needed to download Boot Camp 4.

I want to update to LION,on my Macbook Pro CORE 2 DUO, (october 2006) because Adobe CC needs at least that. I know my computer is old, but works perfect to me and I do not want to stay in Adobe CS6 since I have access to Adobe Cloud CC. Please help.
I probably dont want to go to Mountain Lion either because I've heard that it will slow down my computer, So, Lion 10.7 will be the perfect OS X for me.
I have ne newest release of Snow Leopard installed and works great.
Thank you ALL for your help.

you will be ok updating to the new software but there will be some trade off. i have 3 macbooks 2006 that are all running the latest versions.
some of the trade off are
    1-2 less of battery life
    slow wake ups from sleep
slower start up time about 30-40 seconds longer then what you have now
the operating system will use high % of your processer while idealing
these are not the things you want to hear about a new os compared to the old one but this is how it is even with a new macbook pro. but it's not the end of the world. just make sure you have at least more then 2GB of ram and have a good harddrive and you will be ok.

  • Macbook 2006 upgrade to Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion?

I own a white Macbook pro 2006 core 2 duo OS x 10.4 tiger. More than anything, I want to update this computer. Is there any possible way to upgrade to leopard, snow leopard, or lion?

You can upgrade from 10.4 to10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under 10.6. You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... And you will have to install Rosetta if you have any Power PC applications http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_installing_rosetta/   I recently upgraded an older Core Duo MacBook (1,1) from 10.4 to 10.6. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Bandfor $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers from iWork '09 for $20 each.
You can order a Snow Leopard10.6 install disk for $29 as long as you have at least1gb of RAM and 5gb offree space on your hard drive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
A 10.5 Leopard disk willrun you over $100
Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any PowerPC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. WhenSystem Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need an application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With10.7 Lion Apple dropped support for Power PC applications.

  • White Macbook (Mid 2006) Trackpad problem

I have a white Macbook from Mid 2006 and it has been functioning fine all these years. However just yesterday, it developed a trackpad problem.
I am still able to move the cursor but nothing happens when I click the trackpad button.
I then bought an external mouse. However the problem did not go away entirely. The external mouse would work just fine (I would be able to click with it) if I did not touch the trackpad. However on the few occasions where I accidentally touched the trackpad, the external mouse would suddenly suffer the same fate as the trackpad, i.e. I was still able to move the cursor but I could not click with the external mouse.
I managed to alleviate the problem by checking the "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" option in my System Preferences, thereby preventing any accidental touches of the trackpad from affecting the external mouse. However I hope to get to the root of this sudden and mysterious problem, rather than sweeping it under a "Ignore trackpad when mouse is present" option.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and it did not solve the problem.

Might want to check: Apple->System Preferences->Universal Access , click on the Mouse & Trackpad Tab, then Make sure "Mouse Keys" are off , make sure "press the option key five times .. etc" is unchecked, make "ignore trackpad when mouse keys is on" is unchecked. Check That 1st, because it does sound like a preference problem .. If I think of another one I'll ring in ... Good Luck

  • 2006 White macbook gets hot?

I have a 2006 macbook 2,1 with the 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB ram, and a 160GB hard disk. It is running Lion 10.7.5.
I am pretty tech savvy and bought this machine used. I cleaned it up and upgraded the ram, hard disk and OS to the above specs. It has always run hot since I bought it. Here's what I've done so far to try to correct the issue:
I cleaned and re-applied thermal paste
cleaned the dust from the exhaust vent from both inside and outside the laptop. it is very clean inside and outside now.
Even just browsing the internet for 30-60 minutes the fans crank up and the mac is hot to the touch. The fans are quiet for the first 30-60 minutes and then just crank way up. I don't get it. It has a fresh OS install with only Firefox running when this happens. It doesn't take long for the temp to reach 133 degrees Fahrenheit.
My 2006 imac 5,1 has the 2.0Ghz core 2 duo and 2gb ram also, but stays consistently at about 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
Is there anything else I can do to help the temperatures on this macbook?

You could try a different web browser and see about turning off Flash, and any
add-ons in one browser to see if that uses less system resources & runs cooler.
A separate browser for non-intense browsing can help, when you don't need
the other extras that make the computer work harder.
My old first-edition MacBook1.1 is a coreduo 1.83GHz and tops out at 2GB RAM
and will not go beyond Snow Leopard 10.6.8 for practical reasons, to include a
need to access older applications, as some utilize PPC code, so Rosetta support
that is lacking in OS X 10.7 won't help the usefulness of such an older model.
If your MacBook runs too hot in Lion, had you similar result in Snow Leopard?
There isn't much relief in a slight upgrade to 3GB RAM instead of two; depending
on what model version identifier yours is, it may be able to use more. Though a
slightly different model early MacBook core2duo appears it could use up to 6GB.
My MB1.1 is up on a laptop stand so it is in the air, & use USB keyboard/mouse.
Cooler than on the tabletop or on the lap, since it can breathe easier. Mine is also
still running Leopard 10.5.8, same as my older G4s, but with better results. As such
I have a patched Flash player, though use four browsers for various reasons.
    Good luck!

  • 2006 White Macbook Issues?

I have a late 2006 white macbook with a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo (Lion), and I also have a mid 2006 white macbook with a 1.83ghz core duo processor (Snow Leopard). I recently bought a 3rd party battery for the late 06 version. The battery had good reviews but once I installed it into the macbook the battery indicator icon said "service battery" and battery life went rapidly downwards. Out of curiosity I put the defective battery in the 1.83ghz macbook and everything appeared fine. I got 4.5-5 hrs of battery life with no "service battery" message. What could be causing that?
Also The 2.0ghz one has been having heat issues since I bought it (~1.5 months ago). Not overheating issues, just very loud fans and a very warm case. I don't do very intensive things on either laptop either. Just a single tab of web browsing. The 1.83ghz Macbook runs whisper quiet and is considerably cooler on the outer case. I cleaned both of dust recently and I re-applied thermal paste on both also. Could the 2 issues be correlated somehow? How can i fix them?
    Thanks,
    camtechguy98

Well first try what Mike suggests:
"Try resetting the SMC Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)"
If that doesn't work refer to my post about cleaning the fans above your post. Any decent service tech will be able to do that.
    Apple store for sure.
This article addresses most of the issues I've seen:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/120177/macbook-fans-are-running-high-ev en-under-normal-load
"get the fan serviced before I decide to ditch it."
Oh no! Please don't ditch it. I repair Macs and donate them. If it comes to that email me first.
