Sub account on my mac book pro and parental controls

hi, I installed OS X 10.8.3 back in May (2013) and have upgraded as and when prompted. My son now has his own log-in on my MacBook.  All is fine but every now and then he gets windows popping up telling him what he is not authorised to use. The only way to avoid this is to remove parental controls but I do not want to do that.  As it is I find the parental controls quite inflexible as they don't allow much flexibility in how you set them.  But where I have blocked a couple of apps that he has no need to use, this pop up window keeps appearing which is really rather annoying.  Can anyone help?  They seem to be 'exterior' apps e.g. Kodak for the printer and Blackberry link.

hi there.  I can see them popping up even before my son has chosen what he wants to open.  So I know he is not attempting to open them.  But I do agree with you about the fact they should not be popping up.  Even when you move them to a side they pop up again right in the middle of the screen.  What I have noticed the last two times though is that if I go into parental controls and tick and then untick these apps as items that my son can't access i.e. I give permission to use and then I uncancel that action before saving the settings by locking them, then they stop popping up.  And I did see on someone else's chat that they almost have to re-remind the computer of the parental controls for them to work properly (they had a different issue which was about the time allowed on the computer and how their kid could go over their specified 30 minutes).
But I find the need to remind the computer of the parental controls absurd as I may be out when my son wants to use the mac book and I refuse to give him my password to fix it - noone gets my password otherwise there is no point having one.  I will wait and see if anyone else has a solution.
Thanks for your post!

How do set up your hotmail account on a mac book pro properly? I have it set up so I get mail but on my hotmail account I have lot of separate folders to save messages in(for example :- bank, skyp, work, Facebook, apple, ect...). They don't show up on my mac. I also have an iPhone and iPad, there is no issue here when I set those up. I automatically got my separate folders. Anybody have any idea or encountered the same problem?

    Cheers,
I'm not gonna lie, I actually have no idea if its pop or imap. Do you know where you can check and if it can be changed?
Hotmail on a Mac is POP3 only, you will only get the basic folders (inbox, sent, trash etc) and it will not sync with other devices.
And now I post this I see other replies, so this is redundant. !!

Your description of the problem is a bit confusing.  Do you have ONLY ONE Apple ID or do you have MORE THAN ONE?

Lion 10.7.2 On both mac book pro and iMac, both with Lion 10.7.2, obtain repeated iCal event notifications from calendar or address book.  Cannot turn these off.  They repeat several times per session and every time computer is used.  How to diagnose this?

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • I bought app in App Store on my Mac Book Pro and now it won't let me run

I bought Barcody Express on my Mac Book Pro in the App Store while up in Seattle, WA and it ran fine at first. 2 weeks later I'm back in L.A. and I get a box asking me to verify my apple ID because this is not the computer on which I bought it and it needs to authorize it for use. Then it refuses to authorize it and says to contact support. This is the same Mac Book Pro and user account on which I bought the app. My App Store account in the App Store app shows that I bought it and that it is installed. What's up with this nonsense? How do I get my app that I paid for to work? I need it right now to finish a job.

    Hi..
Then it refuses to authorize it
If you haven't tried this ...
Quit the App Store. Launch iTunes.
From the iTunes menu bar click Store > Authorize This Computer
Quit iTunes, launch the App Store.
And try "resetting" your Apple ID password > Apple - My Apple ID
If nothing helped, you can use the email form to contact Apple here.

Hello Teddy53149 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
    Follow this procedure:
Change your OS X account name and home directory name - Apple Support
As they recommend and as always when you're messing with administrator accounts back everything up first.

  • HT204380 i have a mac book pro and a i-pad 2. both of the devices have the same apple id and same mailing adress. if i want to make a face-time call from my mac book to i-pad 2. how can i do that?

i have a mac book pro and a i-pad 2. both of the devices have the same apple id and same mailing adress. if i want to make a face-time call from my mac book to i-pad 2. how can i do that?

You have to add another email address on one of the two devices that you can use as the "You can be reached for FaceTime at" contact address and then remove/uncheck the Apple ID email address as the contact address on that device. The way you are currently setup is like to trying to call yourself on your on phone - from your own phone.
Using the iPad as the example go to Settings>FaceTime>You can be reached for FaceTime at>Add another email address. Then add a working email address in the next window. Apple will verify the email. Go to the inbox of that email account, read and respond to Apple's email in order to complete the verification process.
Go back to Settings>FaceTime>Uncheck the Apple ID email address and make sure that the new email address is checked/selected (you will see it being verified again) and that new email address will be your contact address for the iPad.

  • Retina mac book pro and Final Cut Pro x

retina mac book pro and Final Cut Pro x is crashing when I use any keying filter. It doesn't should color wheels or grey scale sliders and when I click where they should be they crash. Any ideas?

I actually trashed the prefs three times before I reinstalled the whole app. Here is the screen shot. Notice under color selection sub menu no color wheel. Everytime I click in that general area, it crashes.

Reinstall Snow Leopard without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can i sync more than 1 iPhone to my i tunes account on my mac book pro?

can i sync more than 1 iPhone to my i tunes account on my mac book pro?

Yes, and you DO NOT have to have the "exact same info on it" as chrisfromgastonia says. That is not true.  You can have whatever content you like on each device, iTunes will keep it all straight, by device, including separate backups.
