.sub files on .avi files

how can I use make a .sub file plays togather with my avi using quicktime?
I want to use QT and not VLC!
And, is it possible to make the .sub file is fixed on the avi, so they are both in one avi? (without long converting delays

I was trying to do pretty much the same thing to get a movie with subtitles onto my iPod.
There is a piece of freeware on Version Tracker called TitleLab that will convert .srt or .sub files to a QT text track.
I did have to manually edit the time codes a bit, and I had to directly edit the text file to get the font, size, and color (yellow, the default is white)I wanted. But overall, the program worked well.
Once you have the QT text file, you just open it with QT and choose Select All > Copy.
Open the AVI and select Add To Quicktime Movie.
You may need to resize the text track and adjust the offset so that it displays at the bottom of your movie.
You can then save as a reference movie, or export to whatever codec you want and the subtitles will be permanently embedded in the movie.
In this case, I exported to MP4 using 3ivx two-pass encoding. The subtitles show up very well on my iPod.

I am experiencing the same issue with a new external DVD burner, a Sony DRX-840U. When I load a CD into this external drive it appears in iTunes but when you go to import or play the CD iTunes indicates playing or importing for each individual track for just a moment. The end result is that nothing is ever imported or played. I am experiencing this on two different systems. One a notebook running Win2K and the other a desktop running XPpro. If I use the internal DVD drives on either of these systems everything work just fine. Yet I am able to use this new external DVD drive with every other application. For example Window Media Player has no problem playing or importing the same CD that iTunes fails on. The last person indicated that if one set the DVD drive in question to be the drive of choice under preferences>advanced>burning that all was ok. I my case this Sony external drive is the drive listed as the drive of choice for burning yet the issue still exists.
As this appears to be an issue that others are also experiencing help from Apple Tech Support would be greatly appreciated.

I tried deleting FireFox and reinstalling it multiple times, and a message pops up sometimes that says FireFox may not have installed correctly, so I follow the steps, but all the extra icons on my desktop don't go away. This has happened every time I have downloaded FireFox. The browser itself works, but I need to know how to get rid of these icons, but still be able to use FireFox. This is on a new computer, with Windows 7.

I got my ipad 2 yesterday. I am trying to transfer photos as albums to ipad via itunes. I put the photos in a file with sub-files as I was told. The all tranfer but into one album. Is there a way to do what I am trying?

I edited a photo in one album which created a new album of edits. I have removed the photos form the album but I am not able to delete the album themselves. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem and it is even bigger.
When opening a 1-page PDF in iBooks and sending it via mail it is sent inline as preview, but the recipient cannot open the file anymore. Also on iPad and iPhone there is no "open in" possible.
Somehow the mail app does destroy the file. What is going wrong?

I can tell you that this is some of the absolutely worst customer service I have ever dealt with. I found out from a store employee that when they are really busy with calls, they have third party companies taking overflow calls. One of those companies is Xerox. What can a Xerox call center rep possibly be able to authorize on a Verizon account? I'm Sure there is a ton of misinformation out there due to this. They don't note the accounts properly or so everyone can see them. I have been transferred before and have asked if they work for Verizon or a third party also and was refused an answer so, apparently they aren't required to disclose that information. I spent a long time in the store on my last visit and it's not just customers that get the runaround. It happens to the store employees as well and it's beyond frustrating.

I have a .sub file for subtitles that was extracted from a DVD and need to import it into (ideally) Encore or Premiere to create closed captions (to then export as a Flash file.)

Encore imports .SCC files. It does not export closed caption files, Closed captions are not supported for BD or Flash projects.
Ask this question in the Premiere forum where the CC versions have new support for closed captions.

Import a .srt or .sub file into QuickTime movie

How do I import a .srt or .sub file into QuickTime movie (i.e. pre-made subtitles). I don't want to burn or create a new copy of this movie. I'd just like to view this movie (which is in Italian) with the *.srt subtitle file that came with it.

Thank you Dave, but unfortunately I've tried both of these. Well, I don't have QT-Pro, just the regular OEM version and incorporated the TitleLab components to my Library > QuickTime folder, but to no success.
Do you think that this TitleLab software will work properly on OS X 10.4 and QuickTime 7? This product is designed to run on the following operating systems: Mac OS Classic, Mac OS X 10.1 & Mac OS X 10.2...
So, the upgraded QuickTime 7 Pro doesn't have a native subtitling ability? That's unfortunate!
I also tried the Perian "JackKnife" beta version. It doesn't quite work... It pretty much places the subtitles in brand new blank screens (not aligned with the film at all). I.e. The film will run, talking will occur, then the screen will go blank and the subtitles will appear at the top, then the subtitles will disappear (after the same duration as the film portion) and the film will resume... Essentially, it's messed up.

i accidentally deleted one of the sub files of itunes, and when I followed the steps on the apple website I could delete all the programmes apart from bonjour and itunes. a message comes when when I press uninstall a message comes up saying "
the installation source for this product is not available. verify that the source exists and that you can access it" well I don't know what that means and where to find it, please help.

How can I integrate a .sub file into an mp4 movie

I have an normal mp4 movie and subtitles in an .sub file. How can I combine them without Quicktime Pro? Is there a chance with Perian, iMovie or iDVD?

You can burn them as separate files and play them with VLC player but it won't burn them as a single file with hard-encoded subtitles. If somebody tries to watch the movie with a program that doesn't support using .sub files at the same time as viewing the mp4 (like VLC) then they won't see the subtitles. If you are trying to do that then as far as I am aware you will have to re-encode the mp4 into another mp4 along with burned-in subtitles. As I said before, I don't know which software to use to do that, and if you do it you will also lose quality on the video due to multiple encoding.

I've tried transferring the parent folders, but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone know of a more efficient way of getting iTunes to dig into the subfolders and transfer the music without me having to go one by one?

Email Sub-files

Sub-files within my email files cannot be accessed except when I'm moving a message for example from the "Inbox" to a main file, at which time the sub-files appear.
For example:
I have a main file "Rentals". Within that file are sub-files, one being "Tenants". However, simply clicking on "Rentals" does not even show "Tenants". But if I move a message from the Inbox to "Rentals", the sub-file "Tenants" as well as other sub-files with "Rentals" appears. Means I cannot access the messages in a sub-file.

Mail file turned white from blue and all sub files disappeared

A mailbox under Mac Mail has suddenly appeared as white instead of blue and all the sub-mailboxes within it have disappeared. I've never had this happen before. Can anyone please advise what has happened and can it be corrected? All other sub-mailboxes are fine. I have Mail 4.2 / Snow Leopard 10.6.2. Many thanks.

It would be helpful to know a bit more about the computer, such as the size of the drive you have and the OS you are running. I believe general guidelines are to not fill your drive to more than 90% capacity.
Norton Utilities receives some bad rap on this forum, but sometimes it's all you have (Diskwarrior and TechTool are usually recommended). With NU you particularly have to be careful to use versions that are at least the same generation as the OS you are using. I usually go with Disk First Aid as a first shot since it's made by the people who made the computer.
Assuming you're okay with the situation about the recovered files then I'd say starting with a clean drive would be good. Keep in mind though that the files will be gone for good. I don't know if you need to really zero the drive, just reinitialize ("erase") it. I'd also run some utility to check the integrity of the drive to see whether the problem was due to the drive starting to fail. You might be able to continue to work with it as-is but it would be nice to know why your drive got corrupted in the first place. At least clear up some room. You might also want to check on the fragmentation status and at least do a clean OS install just in case some of those files are on their way out too.
I don't know the Wall Street model myself, but I see it is a G3 powerbook. If it has USB or Firewire capability then I'd get an external Firewire drive (USB would be very slow but would still work). My backup procedure is to have an external HD the same size as my internal one. Then I can just drag the internal to the external once a week and let it copy overnight. That way I don't have to be bothered with copying select files and if the OS files get messed up I don't have to re-customize my preferences, control panels and extensions (I'm still an OS 9 man!)
