  • What is upstream and downstream in an IS Oil?

    Hi,
Its  a very basic question? Actually i am working for a oil co implementation? Si i cam to the site looking for some clues/ best practices on the oil/ gas implementations.
what is this upstream and downstream in an IS Oil implementation? I have not come across this term earlier in a sap implementation.
Is this specific to oil gas industry? may be my implementation does not have a upstream downstream concept..
    please advise.
    regards

    Hi Rajiv,
Stream is determined by the flow of material.
UpStream :- In Oil and Gas industry initial investment is very high for locating the source for crude oil and then getting the permission for the government of the country where that source lies and then extraction of the oil. a company all along can not bear that expanse so it involves big join ventures ... and in this if you notice then the material (crude oil) is following up .. i.e. from underground source to refineries .. this is called up streams and this covers join venture accounting, and all the finance related stuffs. for more detail on this check out this link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_oil472/helpdata/en/ec/9d2c3adcc8431be10000000a114084/frameset.htm
Downstream :- This includes the refinement, storage, transportation, measurement and retail of final oil and gas product ......
In existing core R/3 sales and distribution a lot of changes has been done for down stream oil and gas functionality. for more detail in this please check out this link :

  • In Shop Floor Management can I setup a shop dispatch list for upstream and downstream orders for a department or resource? Capacity for a department?

Have a client that requires detailed dispatch  information for upstream and downstream lot based jobs in Shop Floor Management module. Also visibility into capacity for a department or resource. Is this possible using only Shop Floor Management
Post here or contact [email protected]

    Hi,
I just went through the same problem. Don't know if it is still open.
In customizing under "Project System"->"Structures"->"Operative Structures"->"Network"->"Printing in Networks" you will find entry "Recommendations for printing and print control". There it is stated that the number of time tickets or number of confirmation slips entered for the activity is greater than zero.
Check in transaction OPS0 if you have set the number of prints greater than zero in menu point "List control for transactions (double clic on the entry).

  • Upstream and Downstream Server Configuration Issues

    Hello
We're trying to configure an upstream and downstream server infrastructure.  We believe that we have this configured and working properly but our issue is that local clients and servers are appearing on the downstream server and not the upstream server.
It would be useful for all clients to be managed from the upstream server to reduce administration time.
We manually assign computers to groups and use Group Policy to specify the client configuration. The client and server settings have these keys specified:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Name: WUServer    Type: REG_SZ    Data: (Downstream Server)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Name: WUStatusServer    Type: REG_SZ    Data: (Upstream Server)
To me, this should mean that clients only get updates from the downstream server and are conmpletely managed from the upstream server but maybe it doesn't work that way?
All downstream servers are set to replicas.
Can anyone help?  I'm sure you shouldn't have to assign every client to group at downstream level.  I have thought about using GPO to assign to groups but it would be complicated with our structure due to testing containers and I think I would
    have the same result.
Basically, I would like to assign computers to groups from all sites using the upstream server only.
    Thanks in advance,
    Luke

our issue is that local clients and servers are appearing on the downstream server and not the upstream server.
Number one cause associated with this symptom is not enabling Reporting Rollup on the upstream server in Options->Reporting Rollup.
It would be useful for all clients to be managed from the upstream server to reduce administration time.
This won't happen in any case. Clients are managed from the WSUS server they are assigned to. You can, however, register more than one WSUS server in the WSUS console and manage multiple WSUS servers from a single console.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Name: WUServer    Type: REG_SZ    Data: (Downstream Server)
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Name: WUStatusServer    Type: REG_SZ    Data: (Upstream Server)
This is not correct, but it's not a critical issue since "WUServer" is set correctly. The WUA is just ignoring the incorrect value for "WUStatusServer". Both of these strings should be set to the same value -- the assigned WSUS server.
To me, this should mean that clients only get updates from the downstream server and are conmpletely managed from the upstream server but maybe it doesn't work that way?
    It doesn't.
Basically, I would like to assign computers to groups from all sites using the upstream server only.
Not an option. You have two choices with replica servers:
Assign the group memberships from the assigned replica server.
Assign the group memberships via Group Policy.

  • Current list of all SAP modules and sub-modules

Can anyone point me to a current and comprehensive list of all available SAP modules and sub-modules?  Currently, the best source I have found for this list is SAPNote 36677, which lists all the structure of components for customer incidents.  However, this SAPNote list is over 23K line items and includes information outside of the modules and sub-modules, in a format that is difficult to normalize.

    Eric,
a similar question was posted in this link: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3652322
Assuming you are looking for an overview on the modules for the SAP Business Suite, personally I like the list in the SAP help
Also a valuable resource is the SAP Release Strategy webpage, which provides link to the Solution Explorer, which shows the available modules by LoB Line of Business or Industry solution, and the official Product List called PAM Product Availability Matrix, which is pretty technical.
    thank you

  • SAP oil&gas - where to start - Any advice on manuals/guides

    Hello Gurus
I am new to Oil and gas and intend to pursue this segment for the future. I am an experienced computer professional (10+ years) I am fairly well versed with SAP-MM although experience is limited. I am keen to make a career in SAP Oil and Gas - possibly Upstream or Downstream whichever is possible to learn. I am in the midst of registering myself for a course  in Oil&Gas Accounting or Joint venture analyst. I have not found any course for Downstream. With that said, I have even rented a SAP Oil&gas server to practice. The problem is that I need to get some guidance as to how to go about this in a methodical way.
I have started to read the manuals along side the SAP - JVA guide that they use for training at SAP. However, there is no step by step guide/manual provided by SAP to really practice or build in order to learn and get a from grasp of the subject. I have found some configuration steps in the SAP Oil&Gas online help files or MySAPOil&Gas while reading. However, the reading of the manuals and online help is only theoretical. One needs some exercises to be performed in order to get a grasp of what is what. Where to start, what to configure outside of basic set-up and why?.
Would anybody be able to guide me as to how to pursue my goals?.
    1. Is it possible to learn JVA by using the SAP training guide?.
    2. Is it possible to learn TSW by using the SAP training guide?.
    3. Does the system need to be configured and set-up before one can use the SAP Oil&Gas server?. - What specific configuration would be required for Downstream outside of the default configuration after installation.
    4. What sort of configuration / set-up would be required for JVA?.
(I am aware that every joint venture is different - partner, operator, Eguity group and even Equity)
       a. will the creation of company codes be the usual route as in other SAP modules?.
       b. Is there any special set-up or configuration within the JVA menu for this that is in addition to the normal creation of company code and Enterprise structure?.
    5. Is there any book or manual that can provide additional information as to how to go about learning this subject in order to practice?.
    6. What special requirements are required to learn the downstream module apart from the manuals?.
    7. Can one really learn SAP upstream/Downstream in 30-40 hours being promised/provided by most so called training providers in Bangalore/Hyderabad?.
I am seriously looking forward to hearing from experienced professionals. I'd appreciate if contributors avoid one or two line statements as I would like to make the thread more meaningful for me and for others in a similar situation.
Thank you for you help and assistance.
    Cecil

    Cecil:
each module inside has one sap training module linked to it. I believe the questions you are asking aren't really important when it comes to starting your career path in IS oil. Everything is possible, but to certain extent. You can learn the basic from the training, but to apply that to the business situation, industry experience is needed.
with training guide, you obtain the basic background and knowledge on terminologies. To become an expert, you need the working experience and lots of researching online.
Most times Oil and Gas companies use some of the modules provided by Is Oil, for example, TSW and MAP are common ones. If you have time, start with these ones before you lost yourself in all the modules.
I can ask the following questions.
    5. Is there any book or manual that can provide additional information as to how to go about learning this subject in order to practice?.
Training is high cost but not necessary. The training manual starts with IOG follows with three digits, you can do some research and learn on your own. If you can't get your answer by searching online, then pay some money to let professionals lead you into the door
    6. What special requirements are required to learn the downstream module apart from the manuals?.
knowledge on supply chain management, especially in Oil and gas industry. that being said, SAP SD&MM knowledge is often associated and required.
    7. Can one really learn SAP upstream/Downstream in 30-40 hours being promised/provided by most so called training providers in Bangalore/Hyderabad?.
Define learn. enough to get yourself inthe door and equip you with enough knowledge to explore on your own? yes. enough to teach you enough to handle job tasks? no.
in SAP start up phase, learning is an endless topic, after two years, you are still learning.
    Hope these helps

  • SAP - Oil & Gas RLM

    Hi,
I am new to SAP.  I came from SCM background.  I have some knowledge on APO-DP/SNP.  I am thinking to move to Oil & Gas and I believe RLM is close for me.
I wonder how RLM module is doing in the market.  How are the implementations for this module.
Can somebody throw some light on this?
    Thanks In Advance
    Girish

    Hi Girish,
i think the best way to get in to this module by knowing some of the business process, such as Exchange business flow, Stock transport order, delivery process, packaging, Cross docking etc.
    you can find the link
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_oil472/helpdata/en/83/496c3a411aab70e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
OGSD Oil and Gas seconday distribution is also good to know, along with the RLM
As per the training is concerned there are much to go through if you know the above mentioned business process you can do the configuration.
    hope this may be useful
