Subfolder Format: Exporting by album title

Aperture makes it very easy to make albums containing all the images from a certain day, just find all pictures from that day using the Library Search HUD and click on "Make Album from Selection". I can make albums and title them with the topic of that day's images, but I can't export the title of the album. The custom subfolder format screen has options to name the subfolders after the project name or the containing folder, but not the album.
Does anyone know of an easy way to get around this? I would like to either export folders with titles reflecting the album title, or an easy way (one step) to create a project containing all images from a certain day.

btw, I'd like to make this process as automated as possible. I frequently will go a few weeks without exporting images for my website, it's time consuming to have to go through and manually rename all the folders when I keep my albums so well organized and named.

How to export iPhoto Album in iMAC and have similar folder structure(with Timestamps) which can be viewed in finder
In simple terms, I wanted to view the photos in Windows system, similar strcture of iPhotos

If you want to copy all of your photos to a Windows machine and have them in folders representing the iPhoto Events the were in quickly and easily just do the following:
1  - open the library with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:
2 - COPY the Originals/Masters folder to the Desktop.
3 - copy the Originals/Masters folder to the Windows machine.
This will give you all of your original image file in their Event folder on the Windows machine.
NOTE:  With iPhoto 8 or newer the Event folders in the Masters folder will be titled by date (EXIF) if imported from a camera.  If imported from a folder the event folder will have the same title as the source folder.  If imported singularly or in a group without a folder the title will be a date, either the EXIF date or import date.
With iPhoto 7 (08) and earlier the Event folders in the Originals folder will have the same title as the Event has in the library.
This method would be quicker but not provide the additional metadata you might have added in iPhoto like keywords, titles, descriptions that exporting out of iPhoto with Format=JPEG and the checkboxes selected to include keywords, titles, places, etc, checked.

  • How to export photos with titles in chronological order. Checking box for title and keyword doesn't seem to work

I want to export a group of JPEG photos including titles in the order in which they were taken.  Checking the box to include titles and key words seems not to work.

    You can not
exporting creates files - files have no order - the order is set by the program you use to view them - for example in the finder you can view files by the date created, date modified, size, alpha, etc
So to control the order when viewing in the finder you must have an attribute that the finder can sort on set - the most common way to export photos in a specific order is to make an album in iphoto in the order you want and then export the album using the sequential naming option of the export command - then view them in the finder using a alpha sort - Exporting From iPhoto
However since you want to retain your existing title that will not work for you

  • Is there a script that would allow unique disc names on double albums? (I don't want to put them in the album title or comments.)

I have iTunes 11.2.2, and I've recently made use of iTunes' "disc x of y" feature, instead of entering the disc number in the album title like I used to. I made this change because putting disc numbers in the album-title field makes the two discs appear as two separate albums, with the artwork appearing twice, which I didn't want. The downside of using the "disc x of y" feature, however, is that for double albums where the two discs have unique titles, rather than the default "disc one" and "disc two" -- say, for example, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' album Stadium Arcadium, where the discs are called "Jupiter" and "Mars" --  there is no way to label the disks with their unique titles and still keep them within one album entry. I don't want to put these titles in as a comment or anything like that either. What I'm really wondering is whether it is possible to write a script that would allow me to change where it reads "disc 1" to a unique title, at least within the album section of iTunes.

Certain tags are limited as to format.  I am pretty sure the disc number field only allows numeric entries.  You can send feedback to Apple suggesting changes in iTunes but since this is a somewhat unusual feature I doubt it will be high priority.

When you sort the Album in iphoto are you sorting manually? Or by date of the photos?
When you sort in the Finder how are are you sorting?
Here's one way to do what you're trying to do:
Create your Album and sort the pics as you want them. Then Photos Menu: Batch Change -> Set Title to Text "John's Birthday", for instance, and tick the box to append a number to each Photo. Now your photos are titled 'John's Birthday 001, John's Birthday 002 ... etc'
Then File -> Export and in the Export dialogue set the Filename to "Use Title"
Sort on Filename in the Finder and you end up with a folder full of images in the same order as the Album in iPhoto.

  • Exporting IPhoto Albums via Automator

I would like to export all my iPhoto Albums to an external drive. Since I have my photos already organized in Albums in iPhoto, I would like to keep the same structure in the form of folders/directories on the target drive. But have it in a flat folder/file structure instead of iPhotos more sophisticated format (AFAICT)
Is there an easy way to use AppleScript (does that still exist) or Automator to export every Album in my iPhoto Library to a separate folder on a designated drive? I'm happy if the folder name is simply derived from the album name, I can later go in and modify things. Its just that going through 200+ albums isquite tiring and error prone.
    Thanks!
    Alex

    Terence,
    version number is 9.6.1.
As for OS vs iPhoto Forum - I guess in the end I don't mind if there is a solution that uses Automator or some other means. In that sense, yes my question would have been overly specific.
    Thanks!

  • 'Subfolder format' option missing from iPhoto '11 (v. 9.2.3)

    Hi all,
I am trying to export all 697 events (60,565 pics/videos) in my iPhoto library to an external hard disk. I want to export them in the same folder structure, retaining the event names. I am not so fussed about retaining file names. After researching how to do this on the web, it appears that I should be able to do this easily using iPhoto '11 export options, however, the 'Subfolder format' option is missing from my export options box, even when I have selected multiple events.
Can anyone help me out please?
    Thanks,
    Sarah

The sub folder feature is available in iPhoto 9.4.3.  I don't know about the earlier iPhoto 9 (11) versions. If you installed iPhoto from the iLife 11 disk you will have installed iPhoto 9.0 or 9.1.  You can use the following updaters to get to 9.4.3:
    1 - update to iPhoto 9.2.1
    2 - update to iPhoto 9.3
    3 - update to iPhoto 9.3.2
    4 - update to iPhoto 9.4
    5 - and finally to iPhoto 9.4.3

  • Export iPhotos albums?

To export a folder to a USB drive, I exported an album after having arranged manually the order of my photos. When the album was exported (or even copied in the iPhoto library), the order was not the same anymore, but in chronological order, by daily event.
I'm an old Mac user, new to iPhoto (OSX 10.6.2- iPhoto 11=9.2.1).
How can I keep the manual order of an exported album?
Thanks for helping me keep my sanity.

The problem is that the Finder doesn't have the same sorting options as iPhoto, and instead sorts of whatever of its' options that you select - often file name.
Here's one (of several) way(s) to do what you want:
Make an Album of the photos, then drag the pics into your preferred order.

  • How can i rename album titles already listed at itunes store ?

    greetings.
i'm an indie artist being told the names of my albums have to be changed to comform to the new itunes store standards or have them removed.  this is really ridiculous because one of my existing albums already has the formatting it was submitted as and yet i'm still being told the other two albums must be renamed.
the first album title is listed as : "single of the month club - volume one alt mixes"
it is precisely as i intended it to be named.
the second album title arrived as : "single of the month, vol. 2"  but it should have been "single of the month club - volume two alt mixes".
the "-" was replaced by a "," and the word "volume" was truncated to "vol." and the word "two" was replaced by the number "2" and the "alt mixes" portion was removed completely.
the third album title arrived as : "single of the month club, vol. three (alt mixes)" but it should have been "single of the month club - volume three alt mixes".  the "-" was replaced by a "," and the word "volume" was truncated to "vol." and "alt mixes" is wrapped in parenthesis for some reason.
what i'm looking for here is consistancy.  as an artist i should not be made to alter my artistic vision.  there are several existing album titles within the itunes store that contain all these elements that i'm being told i have to change.  if my first album title can exist as intended, then the two subsequent album titles should be allowed to exist as intended.
note: these albums were submitted through cdbaby.com and their reply to the question is : "The formatting guidelines put in place are relatively recent (in the past couple of months), so older projects may have not been adjusted yet by iTunes (generally modifications won't be made unless an album is brought to their attention)."
i have not been able to find any way to contact the itunes store directly for this matter other than through this forum.
    any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    thank you,
    mully

    Hey allaboutlooks,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I'd check out the following article, which goes over possible issues with the Mac App Store you may encounter and possible resolutions:
    Troubleshooting the Mac App Store

I would primarily try the following steps:
Delete the app that will not open.
    Open the Mac App Store.
Ensure that you are logged in to the Mac App Store with the same account that purchased the app.
Select the Purchases view from the top of the Mac App Store window.
Find the app and click the Install button beside it.
The app will be installed on the Mac you are using.

  • Exporting  iPhoto album

When I attempt to export an iPhoto4 album to a desktop file, prior to burning a CD, I receive a message "there is not enough disc to complete that operation". What does this mean and what can I do about it?

Thanks for at least attempting to help me. I'll try again to explain Problem 2 -- but forgive me if my language is that of a computer dummy!
After taking a trip out of the country, I loaded my more than 500 digital images in iPhoto4's Photo Library. I then created an iPhoto album for the images, edited the images to cut them down to about 225 and also in that process changed their order to exactly the logical order that I liked for presentation.
The album shows just fine in that selected order in the iPhoto slideshow. However, the problem arises when, in order to burn a disc, I try to export the album to a new folder on my Desktop and maintain the order of images I have carefully worked out in the album.
The procedure I have followed on advice received from an Apple discussion thread last year is: select all the photos in the album; then in the Photo dropdown window select Batch Change; then in the window that appears I select Set Title to Text, in the blank field I preface the album name, and I also select "Append a number to each photo"; after that process is completed I select the re-numbered album in iPhoto and in the File drop down menu I select Export, create a new desktop folder, select "Use Album Name" and complete the export procedure.
However, most typically, the images then appear in the new desktop folder in the order they occur in Photo Library, rather than in the order I have carefully selected for the images in the album I created in iPhoto.
I hope that clearifies Problem 2. As to Problem 1, that IS a total mystery. I seem to be able to work around that sometimes by click and drag of the images from the album to the desktop folder rather than going through the iPhoto album export procedure. Even Apple tech has no idea why I get that strange window about not enough disc space.

  • Album titles are missing from some of the songs on my iPhone, but show up in iTunes normally.

Some songs that are synced onto my iPhone are missing album names. It's completely blank. I went back and double checked on my computer, and found that the album is all there in iTunes. Furthermore, the album artwork shows up on my iPhone. So something weird has to be happening.
For example, iTunes shows songs as having a name, artist, album, track number, year, etc. When it shows up in Music, the album is missing along with the track number (I assume). The song IS on my iPhone, it's just missing the album TITLE (not the artwork though). I can find the song under songs, but not albums.
I went back and checked in iTunes to make sure all the obvious things weren't affecting it. I removed it from my phone, then re-synced it. I changed the artist name, album name, everything. I checked and unchecked 'part of a compilation.' I put it on a playlist, took it off the playlist, synced the album, the artist, synced nothing and dragged it to my iPhone. Nothing worked. For the life of me I can't get this album name to show up for all the songs on this album. It's weird because the album is definitely shown in iTunes, and the song definitely gets synced to my iPhone without that data.
I'm completely at a loss here. Any thoughts?

I have this same issue.  All the data (including artwork) is in iTunes, but on py phone (4S, current OS). the album title is missing.  If I'm using bluetooth to connect to my car, it shows as "Unknown Album."
There isn't any rhyme or reason to it.  I've had it happen to singles as well as one track of a complete album.  It doesn't seem to matter if artist matches album artist or not or whether it is part of a compilation.
One more bit of information.  I recently purchased the entire soundtrack for Hairspray.  At first the album name was on my phone no problem.  Then I went into iTunes and edited some track information, changing the artist name (and album artist) to "Cast Recording" and removing the check for compilation.  After making those changes, the album name went missing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Artist info, track number, album title won't show up in iTunes

When I view the songs in explorer, I am able to see the info, but not in iTunes. When I am in iTunes and click on "get info" the ID3 tags are showing as v2.3 and only the track title is showing. When I "add folder to library" and the little progress window appears, it never shows "converting ID3..."
The same files opened in WMP all have complete info including track title, track number, album title.
The same folder is doing this on 2 different computers. We are talking about a huge amount of songs to have to update manually (total of 2.6G from this artist).
How can I get iTunes to show this info?
Troubleshooting info...I deleted a different album from iTunes, then re-added it to my library with no problems, so I am reluctant to blame the program. I'm thinking it is the files/folder. I kind of eliminated that with the attempt on the other computer.

  • HT1473 How do I get iTunes to download an entire album in one file versus splitting it into multiple files with the same Album Title?

I have added several CDs to my iTunes files, several Albums were added in the form of multiple files of the same Album title with random songs listed, but not the entire album in one file.
I have tried to reassemble the Album into one file, but could not find a way to do so.

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.

  • HT2905 I have multiple album titles of the same name with different artists. How can I get them to go under one album title again?

I have multiple album titles of the same name with different artists. How can I get them to go under one album title again?

In iTunes(on a Mac or PC) just tap on 'Albums' rather than 'Artists' and you'll see them all together.
You may find that there are songs mislabelled. In which case right tap on the Album or Artist and tap 'Get Info', then change to the correct name and the songs will join the rest of the songs for that Artist or Album.
Then resync with your iPhone and all will be well.

  • With IOS 7, the coverflow screen sorts strictly by album title.  How do I get sorting by artist then by title, the way it was in IOS 6 and earlier?

There seems to be no way in IOS 7 to see a list of the album titles for an artist.  The "coverflow" screen sorts just by album title, without regard for Artist, where in IOS 6 and before it sorted by artist (primary key) and then album title (secondary key).
Also, in IOS 6 and before, under the Artist search, selecting an Artist gave you a list of the album titles for that artist, then you could select the album you were interested in (or wanted to shuffle play).  But in IOS 7, the Artist search gives you a list of ALLsongs for that Artist.  There is no overview list of just album titles, and no way to shuffle just one album from that screen.  Both IOS 6 and 7 allow one to shuffle all songs for the Artist.
How do I get back the Artist/Abums sorting or grouping, either ijn Coverflow or in the Artist search?
    Thanks,
    Rainer in Waltham
