Submit Site to Search Engines

How do you submit a site to search engines? I have done what
I can to optimise my meta data - just a kind of painting-by-numbers
approach, I notice that some web designers offer this as a
"service." I googled it and come accross offers to do it but I'm
not sure what it's about. Some advice would be great or a pointer
to a tutorial that uses mostly single sylable words.
Thanks
Martin

> How do you submit a site to search engines?
I don't. If it's a site I built, I just put a link to it on
my site. Well,
I usually also add it to my webmaster account at Google, too.

They are selling snake oil.

  • How do I add different sites to search engines

How do I add other search engines or sites to my drop down list? When I visit a site nothing comes up in the drop down menu to 'add it' like the instructions say and you can't manage it to add. I want to add Dogpile and at the Dogpile site it says 'add to browser' but it doesn't. If I want to add cooking sites to the search engine box there is no icon to add it. I have 12 search engines to choose from, that is all.

OK i think i got what you want, correct me if i am wrong.
You want to add '''dogpile ''' in search bar, aren't i right. But you are not able to find '''add dogpile''' in the drop down.
As far as i know the '''Add XXXXXXX''' is shown only for popular website like TechCrunch etc or websites which have their search engine listed in [http://addons.mozilla.org addons.mozilla.org].
You can check whether the search engine you are looking for is in [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/extensions/search-tools/?sort=created mozilla add-on ] and add it.

  • Iweb site on search engines

I have been trying my very best to make my website (http://web.mac.com/bjcarreon) available on search engines because I think it's a great site and people can learn from my experiences but I have been only 1/4 successful because when you try to search for me in google, you can only search what's on the welcome page and not the sub pages. how do i make all the pages in my site, searchable?
is there an easy way to have my iweb made website searchable on line? please help.

mate - your in the wrong forum. you have the latest iweb version, and this is the one previous to it. in any case, you might want to check out my tutorial for making iweb sites be on google:
    http://guimkie.com/projects/iweb/get-on-google-with-iweb/
as a way to make your site be more keyword attractive - make sure that none of your text is as images. if you use simply textboxes, the content will be moved into the html code and can then be picked up by google. text in images cannot be picked up by google.
for those having iweb 06, i have this article:
    http://guimkie.com/projects/iweb/get-on-google-with-iweb-1x
i have some ads on my site, meaning it might generate revenue if you visit it. this is apple policy. i have to state it in order to be allowed to post this link here.

  • Listing JSP site on search engines

I am hoping that there are some methods to get dynamically JSP generated webpages listed on search engines. I know that there are issues when using a query string because of spiders avoiding the '?' Is there a mod_rewrite type of option that can be accomplished in web.xml or anywhere else that could translate a site so that I could use:
    http://somesite.com/product/id/324
    instead of:
    http://somesite.com/product.jsp?id=324
Even if there is a completely different approach to solving this, I welcome any and all suggestions.
    Thank you all in advance,
    Steve

Or, to make your site more portable (if this is an issue), design your pages such that direct access without query variables provides a meaningful result in the first place, and your problem is solved. I know i have a habit of just erasing extra query stuff on pages i'm viewing to try to get to a root page.. it's incredibly annoying when one doesn't exist, or craps out on you because you're missing parameters.
Although using Apache is a good idea... hadn't thought of that.

  • When I use a search engine in Firefox, the links redirect me to some spam, and not the site the search engine found.

When I use a search engine in Firefox, whether it be google, or Yahoo, the links found by the search engine, re-direct me somewhere else. For instance when I searched for Places to Buy PC Games. www.gamestop.com popped up. When I clicked the link, it took me to some laptop hardware site. But if I type in the url for Gamestop, it takes me to their website. This has happened for several searches, several different links. I tried Internet Explorer thinking it may be a problem with the search engines. But IE is working fine for this.

This type of behaviour can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Malwarebytes]
    * [http://www.superantispyware.com/ SUPERAntiSpyware]
    * [http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Ad-Aware]
    * [http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Windows Defender]
    * [http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html Spybot S&D]
This site may also be of use - http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2010/02/remove-google-redirect-virus.html
If the above malware scanners do not find any malware or can not clear it, you should consider posting in one of these forums for specialized malware removal help:

  • Optimizing iWeb Sites for Search Engines

Does anyone know of a way to manually adjust the meta tags in iWeb publishing in an effort to improve SEO?

Welcome to the discussions. You could try this free iWeb SEO Tool:

...It says: "Easily change title tags, meta tags and alternate image text to help improve search engine rankings."

  • Software that could optimize your site on search engines

Is  there even a such thing as a SEO Friendly site other than the usual keywords, meta tags and backlinks or even software that can do such a thing?  www.createmeasuccessfulwebsite.com

I don't think Software can do SEO . software can help to improve the SEO by doing site Audits and spying other sites.
Most Importance thing is Good back link and content with relevant titles

  • Iweb site, listing in search engine looks bizarre??

How do I change what appears in the search listing, I get this below:(
    Welcome2
    Welcome | Bridal | Bridesmaid | Communion | Accessories shapeimage1_link0 shapeimage1_link1 shapeimage1_link2 shapeimage1_link3 shapeimage1_link4 ...
    www.boutiquebrides.com/ - Cached - Similar
It appears to be picking up info from my menu... Why is this?
    thanks

Roddy is right. You are not giving the search engines enough content to display in the search results. This can be fixed by a better title tag, as well as adding a decent description.
To do this, download iWeb SEO Tool, as Roddy has mentioned. http://www.ragesw.com/products/iweb-seo-tool.html
Here is a video which shows you how to use this application. http://apptorial.com/how-to-use-rage-softwares-iweb-seo-tool/

  • Making our site to search by search engines like google, yeahoo...etc

    Hi All,
To make our client site search and display results by google / yahoo or any other search engine what needs to be done?
we kept "meta" tag keywords and description in all our html file and mastheaders.
What we need to do for making our site searchable by search engines ( like yahoo search and google search etc)?
Do we need to register with the search engine sites or search engine will search our site automatically by checking "meta" tags in our web pages.?
All our webpages are in KM.
    Thanks,
    PradeeP

    Hi Pradeep,
I havent tried this before, but would like to add my 2 cents to this topic.
I guess you could start by submitting your site to google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
Search engines rely on a lot more than just the meta tags and other header information. I guess Google relies on something called PageRank and also track backs in order to determine the relavance of your site to the search criteria.
You may also search for document related to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) but not sure if that would work.
    Thanks,
    GLM

  • Trying to add a search engine in dreamweaver

Trying to build site with search engine. I found some free script on the internet. The download consisted of 2 pages. A search.html and results.html. • Drop down menus / search engine friendly

    Hi,
I've been tasked with creating a new company website and having it go live April 10th. I would like to use iWeb to get it done.
Are drop down menus possible with iWeb? To be clear, I'm talking about if you hover your cursor over a menu item; say products, a drop down menu will appear listing specific products and link to that products page.
The other main requirement is that the site be search engine friendly. Our current website is in Flash and is virtually invisible to search engines.
I hope that these questions haven't been answered by digging just a little further, it's just that I'm under a tight deadline and must get started.
I've been a Mac user since 88 and I would like to work on my preferred platform. I've got a decent background in design. (I'd like to not use Dreamweaver under this deadline) Our current website is www.rapid.com. It was made from a flash template that I was told to use so I made the best of it.
I'm going for a clean looking non fussy user experience, unlike what we have now.
Thanks for any help you may have.

As Massimo says, they are just fine in the basic sense.
The adminition you are familiar with was related to *any*
    menu system that
embedded your actual menu links within javascript
    'document.write' commands,
just the way the DW pop-up menus prior to CS3 does, and the
    way the FW
pop-up menus prior to FW8 did.
If you can look at the HTML on the psge, and SEE the links in
    the HTML, then
a search engine will also be able to see them, and therefore
    spider your
    site.
BUT - if you have sub-menus, and I have javascript disabled,
    *I* will not be
able to access those sub-menu links when I come to your site.
    Further,
neither will anyone with a screen reader. That's a
    problem....

  • OTN's search engine returns non-matching results

I plugged "agntsrvc.exe encountered a problem" into the web site's search engine. The returns were nonsensical, i.e., when I searched the returned documents for "agntsrvc" there were no matches. Basically, the site's search engine is useless.

  • Hide Muse wire frame from search engines while in dev

    Hi,
I am using muse to develop a wire frame for a client.
Could you advise on how I hide the site from search engines during this process.
    Many Thanks
    Cas

    Hi Cas,
If you have published the site to Business Catalyst and the site is still in trial mode, you have nothing to worry about. A robots.txt file is automatically added to the trial sites in BC. So search engines can't index the BC trial sites.
