Submitted podcast not in store

I have tried submitting a podcast to Itunes, to limited success. The RSS feed is valid; users can subscribe to the podcast using the Menu: Advanced: Subscribe to Podcast method, but the podcast has not appeared in the Podcast section of the iTunes store, no matter how many times I've tried to submit it in the past several months. Any ideas?

When you submit a podcast it has to be checked for acceptablility; obviously this requires human intervention so it can take some time to get a response: however it's not usually months. If it's accepted you should get an email telling you so and giving you the Store page URL: if it's rejected you should also receive an email, though they are no usually specific about the reason. The Subscribe to Podcast method has nothing to do with this: it will work with a valid feed even if it's never been submitted.
Possibly you are stuck in the queue somehow: or perhaps it was rejected and the message didn't reach you for some reason. You say you've submitted it more than once: normally subsequent attempt would get an automated message saying it's already been submitted - obviously you've not seen those either.
Presumably you have followed the correct procedure, submitting the feed URL at
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/publishPodcast
and giving them an email address.

  • Podcast not in store

hi, so apple has sent me a conformation letter that my podcast is indeed in the itunes store, they also gave me a link to go to view it. The link works, and my podcast shows up in the music store. But when I try to search my podcast in the music store, it does not show up. Why is this?

It takes awhile for the iTunes listings to come up-to-date. Be patient. In the meantime look here. She had the same problem; your feed should also resolve itself after a few days.

  • HT3311 Problem submitting podcast (hosted on GoDaddy) to i Tunes Store - host parameter null

Why do I get following reply from iTunes Store when I attempt to publish my podcast:
"We had difficulty reading this feed. Host parameter is null." ?
    This is my podcast website:
    http://www.einarpetterson.org/Ars_et_Medicina/Podcast/Podcast.html
I have validated the following feed with Feed Validator.  It is ok.  (there are some minor suggestions for changes which should not be criical)
    http://www.einarpetterson.org/Ars_et_Medicina/Podcast/rss.xml
When I write this feed URL in the box for suscribing to podcasts in ITunes  (Advanced/Suscribe to podcast menues),  iTunes finds my podcasts and downloads them successfully (and fast).  All the podcasts downloaded that way work fine.
So, if the rss reed is validated, and works in iTunes,  why am I not able to publish my podcasts in iTunes Store?
My hosting service is GoDaddy.com.   I see from other articles on this support forum (Apple) and on GoDaddy´s support forum, that other people have had the same problem.   Sometimes their problem apparently just disappeared (and iTunes Store finally just stopped writing "We had difficulty reading this feed.  Host parameter is null"  everytime they tried to submit their podcasts to iTunes.  I have now tried submitting this and other podcasts (hosted on GoDaddy) many, many times for several days, but always get the same irritating negative message.
Does anyone out there understand what the problem could be?   As far as I can see from reading other descriptions of this same problem, no one has yet provided an adequate explanation of what is causing this "glitch" (as some call it).
I want to publish several podcast series on iTunes Store which are now hosted on GoDaddy.com.   Many other MobileMe users like me, will in the next 30 days have to move their websites from MobileMe to other hosting services.   GoDaddy.com is a large hosting service.   This problem might appear often during the next month.  I therefore believe that Apple and GoDaddy should attempt to find out why this problem occurs, and do something about it.   It seems from other descriptions of this problem, that it often occurs with people using GoDaddy hosting service.  Have not read or analyzed all descriptions of this problem on the net, but there are enough descriptions to support a hypothesis that there is some communication difficulty between iTunes Store and GoDaddy hosting service. (? - at least some others have made this hypothesis, like I do)

TEST OF SUBMISSION OF 16 RSS FEEDS TO ITUNES STORE "SUBMIT PODCAST" PAGE
I have now tested all my podcast rss feeds which are now stored on GoDaddycom hosting service in three ways:
    1) Feed validator
    2) iTunes (Menu: Advanced/suscribe to podcast)
    3) iTunes Store "Submit Podcast Page"
    Results:
All 16 rss feeds are valid according to Feed Validator.  There are some small insignifcant suggestions for improvements which are not critical.
All 16 rss feeds function in iTunes (Advanced/suscribe to podcasts)
None of the 16 rss feeds can be successfully submitted to iTunes Store "submit podcast" page.  The same error occurs in all cases:
"We had difficulty reading this feed. host parameter is null"
The following 5 of these 16 podcasts were submitted while the websites were hosted by MobileMe.  No problems with submission.  All accepted and now on iTunes.  These podcast sites are now transferred to GoDaddy.com (with same domain as earlier  - einarpetterson.org - and all function.  I can change pages, make alterations etc.
Here are the 5 rss feeds.

THIS PROBABLY MEANS THAT IT IS EITHER VERY DIFFICULT, OR IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANYONE WHO IS USING GODADDY.COM AS A WEBHOSTING SERVICE (WITHOUT USING THEIR VIRTUAL OR DEDICATED SERVER OPTIONS WHICH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE) TO PUBLISH ANY PODCASTS ON ITUNES STORE.
I may have made some error in my submission to ITunes Store, but do not think so.  If anyone discovers that I have made a simple and stupid error, please tell me.  If I have not made an error, one should probably not use GoDaddy.com as a webhosting service if one ever wants to publish podcasts to iTunes Store.
It would be interesting to hear if anyone in this forum who is using GoDaddy.com webhosting service has recently (or ever) managed to succesfully submit a rss feed to iTunes Store submit page.  If so, I would like to hear about it.

  • When i click on itunes on my ipad2 i get the error ..'cannot connect to itunes store'...i'm able to access podcasts and itunesU but not itunes store. This is very strange as i can access app's store

when i click on itunes on my ipad2 i get the error ..'cannot connect to itunes'...I'm able to access podcasts and itunes U but not itunes store..my apps store and safari are also working perfectly but don't know whats the issue with i tunes store...i use an airtel broadband connection through a wifi router..pls help

I was having this problem. The settings on my wireless router was set to hide my IP address so it wouldn't connect. When I changed that, I connected no problem. While this is annoying since I don't want my IP address to be out there, I just switch my router when I need to connect to the App/iTunes Store. Hope this helps. It worked for me.

  • Podcast not showing up in itunes search after 1 week

i submitted my podcast with one episode and it was accepted on 17 july. i am able to get to it in the itunes store by using the url as provided in the email.
    iTunes Store Welcome
    Dear Podcast Owner
Your podcast, located at [ http://feeds.feedburner.com/meterdown ], has been approved. You should expect to see it in iTunes within the next few hours. When it's available, you will be able to access it with the URL below.
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=260194221
i have put an icon with that url in my blog (meterdown.wordpress.com) and that works fine. people are taken to the podcast in the itunes store and can subscribe.
however when i search the store, my podcast is not turning up either by podcast name (meter down) or by author/artist name (kabi) or by keyword (taxi, bombay, hindi).
I can ping using the podcast ID (id=nnn) and it returns the podcast feed url (http://feeds.feedburner.com/meterdown) and the podcast ID.
it doesn't list an episode however. is it supposed to?
my main question is "why am i not showing up in the search?"
is there something wrong in my xml? I host at switchpod and run it thru feedburner and I use the feedburner feed.
i have read and read the forums here, feedburner, podcast alley and also am emailing switchpod support. still can't figure it out.
    thanks

    ssukotto,
Thanks for the information. What you mention is boilerplate that is automatically sent when a new podcast is approved. I also quoted it like scripture before diving deeper into researching this issue.
The research into this problem suggests that there is a minimum number of podcasts in order to be included in the search index (or at least the search results) whether it's undocumented or unintentional.
Case in point, Meter Down posted his first complaint that his podcast hadn't shown up in the search even after a week (far outside the 24-48 hours you mention and that is documented)..that was a week ago. A total of at least two weeks that his podcast could not be found by searching by the exact title. His podcast showed up search within a day after adding his second episode (yesterday).
Jerry Pine posted July 17 that his podcast "Everything Algae" had been approved July 13 but couldn't be found by searching...even by name. July 28th, he added a second episode as a test...and his podcast became searchable.
There are several others who went for days or weeks without being listed in search results by even searching for their exact podcast title...common trait between all of them was that they only had one episode. They added a second episode and within the day they show up in search results.
There are others that had newly submitted podcasts whose podcasts showed up within the 24-48 hours timeframe...but they had at least two episodes.
I'm just providing the facts...could be coincidence that they just happened to be searchable just after posting a second episode.
I'd invite you to read through and share with the iTunes podcast developers the several thread from various people who have reported problems with having a searchable podcasts and draw your own conclusions.

  • First podcast in iTunes store

Hi, I submitted my first podcast to the iTunes Music Store yesterday. I have the podcast on my .Mac homepage and submitted it through iWeb. I had two podcasts on the website, but only wanted to submit one episode, since they were on different topics, and were different files.
When I saw the podcast in the store, both of the podcast episodes were there. I went back and deleted the one that I didn't want published from the homepage. Now it seems to be working properly, but I'd like to know how to select which files actually get submitted, since I'd like to keep some podcasts just as examples on my homepage, while there are other episodes which I want to have available on iTunes.
One more question - yesterday, the iTunes listing had a link to my homepage, and today it does not. What's the reason for that? Does it have anything to do with me deleting one of the files?
Thanks for any help. As you can tell from my questions, I'm new to this.

It normally takes 12 to 36 hours for your new episode to show up on your iTunes store page.  But as you already mentioned - it will be available to anyone that is already subscribed as soon as it is released.
So at this point there is nothing you can do and nothing that is wrong - you just need to wait 12 to 36 hours for it to show up on your iTunes store page.

  • Podcast not accepted, reasons?

    Hi,
For two months I'm trying to upload my second podcast channel.
The first one is growing fast and gets about 20 download per day. The second feed I submitted does not get accepted (tried it twice) and I have no clue to why.
It's a valid feed, marked as explicit with an audiofile of 75 minutes.
    http://suzy-wong.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
Anyone knows how this is possible?
    Thanks!
    Lucas

The only thing wrong with your feed is that the main 'keywords' tag contains 416 characters - the maximum is 255 - but I wouldn't have thought this would have been sufficient to cause a problem, and the feed can be subscribe to manually from the 'Advanced' menu.
If your podcast was rejected you should receive an email saying so (though it probably wouldn't give a clear reason). Possibly reasons for rejection are technical issues - apparently not the case here - unacceptable material (hopefully not the case either) or suspected use of copyright material without either written permission of the copyright owners or possession of a valid podcasting licence from a recognised authority. Or you may just be unlucky and be stuck in the queue.
You could try contacting Support, but I have to say they often aren't helpful, and may well just send you a form answer telling you how to submit a podcast (which you know already). Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options.

  • Podcast Cover Image & Recent Podcasts Not Appearing

I know this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to get the Podcast Cover Image to appear on my client's iTunes podcast page both within iTunes and on Apple's iTunes website. When I'm subscribed to it, it does show up. What am I doing wrong?
Additionally I'm having a problem with my last 3 podcasts not appearing, and I can't figure out what happened there.
Below are links to the page on Apple site and the feed I'm using, but please let me know if I need to provide more. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    https://itunes.apple.com/podcast/living-grace-lutheran-church/id348311926?mt=2
    feed://livinggraceomaha.org/lg-sermonpodcasts.xml

Your feed is OK, except that most of your episodes do not have 'guid' tags, and your enclosure tags are missing the 'length' attribute which should show the file size in bytes. Neither of these is serious and they would not cause a problem.
The Store does go through slow patches sometimes: there have been numerous occasions when people have complained about not seeing updates for two or three weeks, and I'm afraid that you've probably just hit one of these. There isn't really anything you can do about it. You could try emailing them at podcasts 'at' apple.com, but frankly you are likely to get a form answer telling you how to add episodes (which you already know). I'm afraid that it's just a question of waiting.

  • Apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built with Xcode 5.1.1 or later, and iOS 7 or later SDK.

    Hi Guys,
i am receiving this error since last 3 days please help me resolve this.
i am already using XCode 5.1.1 and iOS 7 SDK i have regenerated my app store provisioning profile twice after this issue.
my app gets validated by Xcode and also gets uploaded successfully through Application Loader (i.e. latest one 2.9.1 i believe)
but in itunes connect when i try to submit my app for review i receive this error.
"Apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built with Xcode 5.1.1 or later, and iOS 7 or later SDK."

I'm getting the same error as well, using Xcode 6.1 (6A1042b) on OSX 10.9.5.  My project settings in Xcode have “Deployment Target” as “7.0” and “Base SDK” as “Latest iOS (iOS 8.1)”.  I uploaded the app via Xcode, not with the application loader and I've tried re-generating my distribution provisioning profile.
This is an update to an existing app which was previously built against iOS 6.0 sdk but all attempts to submit the update now produce the error message "Apps and app updates submitted to the App Store must be built with Xcode 5.1.1 or later, and iOS 7 or later SDK."

  • Error updating podcasts and itunes store

I upgraded to iTunes 8.0 recently and after that, even though i have internet access, i can not get to the iTunes store and update podcasts. please help

    Hello a.mcintyre.rn,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Music, Podcasts, and iTunes Store app on your iPad.
I recommend following these steps for an issue like this (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing and any other steps you may have taken):
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPad before performing the restore:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Podcast not listed in directory

Yesterday I received an email notification that my podcast has been approved. The link they sent does take me to the podcast. However, it does NOT show up in the directory itself. Any ideas why?
Just to avoid any confusion: I have an old podcast listed by the same name ("CrossWay Church Sermon Podcast"), but it's not the right one. I can't remove it because the feed no longer exists, and no one from iTunes will remove it for me--I've been trying for weeks. You'll know it's the old feed if it lists the artist as "Nathan Hyde." The correct and active feed lists the artist as "Pastor Nathan Hyde."
    My feed is http://feeds.feedburner.com/CrossWay
    Thanks!

Are you trying to find it by browsing? If so, as explained below, you will not see it in Browse because the Christianity category no longer will display any new podcasts.
The problem is that many new podcast listings will NOT appear in the iTunes Browse function. For example my podcast of BOOK HOBBY will not appear in Literature, just as certainly hundreds and possibly thousands of other podcasts will disappointingly not appear in their proper Browse categories. The problem is in the way that iTunes displays browse categories. It will only display 1,000 titles in each category maximum. Anything beyond the 1,000 titles is simply not at all displayed in that browse category. So, for example, in the Literature category I can easily and quickly find dozens and dozens of podcasts that have not been updated in more than a year, which have bad descriptions, which duplicate themselves over and over, whose rss files result in errors, but my podcast which I frequently update and which follows all the rules cannot be found by browsing in the main catgeory of Literature I want it to be found in because, well, 1,000 displayed is it. It does not matter how long you wait.
I wrote to Apple about this a few months ago (late February). I had to write more than ten emails before I finally got to someone who had any concept of what I was talking about. They wrote back that they were aware of this problem and that it would be fixed "in a few weeks."
So what I have had to do was to choose two other categories that have less than 1,000 displayed to appear in and that sort of works. It only sort of works because the whole point of catgorization should be to put thing in the BEST categories. I did, for reasons of a proper power-search, keep the main category Literature.
I have to say that I am amazed that with all the FAQs from Apple that are dead wrong about this, with so many people having their podcasts not shown as they should be, with the resulting problems to users, that the whole podcast community is not talking about this on every Forum in every venue that supports podcasting. This is not just a small problem. This cuts to the heart of people starting new podcasts.
After writing the above I decided to see how widespread this iTunes bug is -- are there just a few categories affected? I was astonished at how many Browse categories now have 1,000 listings and will not, for reasons of the display bug or problem or design show any further new ones. If you are doing a new podcast in the following areas, well they already display 1,000 listings and your podcast will not appear in the Browse there. Here are the affected categories:
    Arts:
    Literature
    Performing Arts
Design has 900, soon to be filled.
    Business:
    Business News
    Investing
    Management & Marketing
Careers has 977, soon to be filled.
    Comedy
    Education:
    Higher Education
    Training
    Games & Hobbies:
    Video Games
    Health:
    Fitness
    Self-Help
Kids & Family (has 996, very soon to be filled)
    Music
    News & Politics
    Religion & Spirituality:
    Christianity
    Spirituality
    Society & Culture:
    Personal Journals
    Places & Travel
    Sports & Recreation:
    Professional
Outdoor (has 919, soon to be filled)
This is a serious problem. Certainly all podcasts can be found by power search. But the point of Browse categories is to allow people to discover new things, to allow them to explore all the wonderful podcasts being offered.
I am NOT an Apple basher. People who know me, know that. I founded and ran all of the Apple-related and Macintosh areas on CompuServe (the MAUG Forums) for almost 20 years. I was the founding Editor-in-Chief of MACUSER Magazine and ran that publication for some years. I love Apple, absolutely.
But I do not understand why they have not addressed this problem with the Browse categories in the iTunes store as to how iTunes displays them. I trust they will but I hope it will be sooner rather than later.

  • Podcast not showing all the episodes in my feed

When i created my podcast i think i selected to only keep the latest 10 episodes by mistake. How could i correct this without deleting my current podcast and resubmitting a new feed to itunes?
    http://construct.wickedbad.net/archives/category/mixes/jaime-le-dubstep/feed
right now its showing episodes 44 and up. i'd like it to start at 1 and keep them all.
    Thanks for the help.
    Marc

iTunes is indeed using the second feed you list but this immediately redirects to the first feed when you enter the URL in a browser. Presumably you have a redirect in place on the server? There are 115 episodes in the Store, and though I didn't count the ones in the feed they seem to match. So it all seems to be working and you could probably just leave it alone - since you have added episodes to the feed and iTunes has (presumably) picked then all up, the redirect seems to be working there OK. (Next time you add an episode to the feed, make sure it does indeed appear in the Store - after a couple of days - and when subscribing - this latter is immediate).
If you really want to change iTunes to the feed directly you are going to have to go through a bit of a process:
    1. Copy the feed at http://construct.wickedbad.net/feed/podcast to the other location at
    http://construct.wickedbad.net/archives/category/mixes/jaime-le-dubstep/feed
    2. Add the redirect tag to this copy feed as indicated here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/podcasts/specs.html#changing
    3. Remove the server redirect.
    4. Leave the copy feed in place until iTunes has swapped over (check this by subscribing from the Store page, clicking the line for your podcast (not an episode) and clicking the 'i' button at the right-hand end.
