Submitting songs to iTunes free single of the week?

Hey,
I already have some of my songs on iTunes. I was wondering how songs became free singles of the week? Do I submit them? Does Apple choose randomly?
Thanks
Liam T

Hi Carl,
No, this is not possible as far as I know. There is, however a special playlist that Apple maintains and usually keeps it up to date with everything that is currently free. You can access this playlist from the main iTunes store screen (scroll down to the bottom), or just click this link and it will take you right there.
Hope this helps,

Hello! I was just curious how to set up automatic download from iTunes for the free single of the week. Any help would be appreciated!

    You cannot.

  • Itunes (australia) free single of the week - AGAIN !

    Hi,
the free single of the week cant be downloaded AGAIN this week...
see last round of problem - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=308408&tstart=0
    same problem this week....

Apparently all of the iTunes Music Stores are having issues with the "free song" this week. No idea why, but the Discussions Hosts are trying to find out the status. Keep trying and with luck it will work before long.

  • Where is "Free Single of the Week" on iTunes 12?

I do not see Free Single of the Week on iTunes since I "upgraded" to version 12 on my PC. Where did it go?

The problem persists with the updated SotW.
I was able to workaround the problem downloading the songs from an iPad with iOS 6.1.3 and another Mac with Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.6.3.
The problem also persists using the guest account of my Mac. So the problem may be related to something specific of the Mac.

  • Free Single of the Week requires latest version of itunes!!

    Hi,
I just tried to download the latest free single of the week, Soulsavers - Some Misunderstanding, and itunes is saying that this item requires the latest version of itunes.
I have version 7.7 and have no desire to upgrade to the extra bloatware that is itunes 9. Why should I HAVE to?
    What have apple done?
    Lee

I'm pretty sure they require v9.
"...if I download a freebee with itunes 9 can it still play in older version of itunes 7.."
I would think so, particularly if u convert it to mp3.
And RE ability to get freebies from other outfits...Macheist sent out an email for a free game. I clicked the "download" button within the email and it opened iTunes/iTunes Store. I was unable to download..."must have newest version of iTunes..."
Once again, I sent a 'report bugs' to Apple/iTunes. I think it falls on deaf ears...they're gonna insist we upgrade.
I hope it doesn't come down to that with Safari; Safari 4 doesn't play well on my G4; I use Safari 3.1.1. Matter of fact, I'm gonna try for 3.2 today.

  • HT204411 "free single of the week"

Which countries apart from the UK & US offer "free single of the week"?

    Just found the answer:

    Solved!

  • Has Apple stopped the free single of the week

I always look to see what the free single of the week is, but I can' t seem to find it in iTunes. So I'am just wondering has Apple stopped it in the uk.

Having the same problem here, iTunes more likely than not forgot/screwed up.

  • What happened to the free Single of the Week download?!

I logged into the iTunes Store, clicked on the "Free on iTunes" section, and was shocked that the free Single of the Week is no longer there! It's bad enough that they got rid of the Discovery Download, Spanish Discovery Download, and Video of the Week, but now the Single of the Week is gone too? What?!

Yes, I noticed the same thing.  I've been downloading the free single of the week for many years now and have discovered a lot of good music that I otherwise would never have been exposed to.  I hope it's just an oversight . . .

  • What happened to free single of the week?

This week the button for free single of the week does not appear on my iTunes store home page. Where did it go?

They don't have a section for free tracks as of today, so if the Canadian iTunes Store did at one time, then apparently they've ceased to offer them at least temporarily. It may be that they just couldn't negotiate anything with a record label for this week and with luck there will be a new free track in the future. We have no way of knowing. though.

  • Can't download the free single of the week

For the last month or so I haven't been able to download the free single of the week. When I click the link, it just comes up as a 'dead link page'. Any ideas on how to fix this? Also, how can I get the free downloads I've now missed?
    Thanks

I do know what you mean. I don't unfortunately, know what the cause of this is.
Perhaps someone else may chip in with some advice.

  • No Free Single of the Week?

Is there no free single of the week this week? No one I've talked to on other forums has seen one either.
I'd be sad if they discontinued this.

take a look at the left side: 2 free songs this week

  • I would like to download the free single of the week...

but I don't have a credit card. Since this is a free download, is there any way to download it without giving credit card information (which I do not have)? Thanks for your help.
      Windows XP

Your best bet will be to buy a pre-paid iTunes card for $15 and then you can create an account without a credit card.

  • Single of the week in itunes

Are you not able to download the free single of the week on a iphone 4 any more in the UK?

    I think it's still available.
Get this iOS app that reminds you to download single of the week, it provides a direct link to the free song:

  • Free Download Single Of The Week

HI, I was wondering if you could download the free single of the week without inputting a credit card #, seeing as how i dont have a credit card, like putting in your serial # instead or something else?

    Mr, Stuff,
I'm not even a "Level one" and I've got a better answer, yeah me!
Answer: Yep, you sure can, what you do is go to the ITMS with an "iTunes Music Card" in your hand. You get this card from a Target, 7-11, Best Buy, and many other retailers, it's available (for CASH!) in denominations of $15, 20, 30 and I think I saw a $50 once.
Now you click on the link on the main page on the left side called: "iTunes Music Cards" and it will give you a chance to "Redeem a prepaid Card", enter the cards special number (careful scratching off that junk, you don't want to scratch off the number!) When you do this (or maybe before, I don't exactly remember) you will have a chance to 'build an account' if you have an registered ID on the apple site, I'd use this, otherwise build it now and expect to use it in the future, when you get to the credit card option, YOU CAN SKIP IT since you are entering a Music Card! (and yes, Paypal IS now an option, added a few months ago).
Now, key point here, if you DON'T enter a alternate payment method, you will be STRICTLY limited to the amount on the card, which you will likely not match since they come in even amounts and everything else is x.99 or the like. So buy more if you drop low, your remaining credit amount will show on the window frame by your ID, you'll see.
Special Feature (and this is what your after!): YES you CAN now add free tunes to your 'account'! (I don't know if there is a time limit to the cards credit {like some gift cards that allow 1 year from purchase} but doubt it, retailers have been phasing those out due to public {press} pressure) so be wary.
And if and when you DO get a credit card or PayPal account, you can just click on your ID in the upper right and enter your account management page and update your account accordingly!
NOTE: you mention something vaguely about "if i don't live in the states", well, if you don't live where you can get a card, or have someone who can send you one, then your SOL, but be careful about initial expenditure, if your farther than the US Virgin Islands, you may be outside Apple's legal agreement with the music industry, said agreement being that they will do what they can to enforce the restriction that titles from any country's 'store' will not be allowed to be sold to they outside said country. In short, if yoru in Japan, you can LOOK at any store, but you can only BUY from Japan! And if your not in any of the listed store areas, well, it's a dice roll, if your 'out there' consider it a 'dice roll' and I'd limit my initial experimental risk to the $15 card, you-know-what-I-mean? Apple does have the right and obligation to enforce their contracts with the music industry. So good luck.
