Submitting to broadcast and iTunes
This isn't so much a FCP question as it is a video production question, but with specific needs for iTunes.
I'm just finishing my first music video for a record label and they will most likely be submitting it for broadcast and also to iTunes. I overheard another editor discussing the proper way to format a video for iTunes and I was wondering what that was. I think he was talking about the info that runs off the top of the video. Run time, artist, record label and the like.
Can someone give me a quick rundown of what info I need to include, and the timing? Do I need a 2 pop if it's just a Quicktime? Color bars, tone, countdown?
What format is the exHD, HFS+?
Vista prefers NTFS or FAT. So you'd probably need some software that lets Vista read HFS+. Or consolidate it onto a different exHD that is FAT-formatted.

Submitting a podcast and iTunes approval
I submitted a podcast/podcast feed a number of weeks ago and it successfully published in iTunes, however a few days after successfully publishing the feed, iTunes removed it from the US store (most likely because of technical difficulties). I then re-created the podcast using Feed for All and have successfully validated the feed on numerous sites on the Web.
I have since resubmitted the feed to iTunes, however the feed is not publishing ... I check our link and it says the feed "cannot be located in the US store."
My question: How do I get my feed on iTunes even though my feed is valid and clean? I have submitted and resubmitted it over 3 times in the past 10 days with no luck.
Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
SOne, how long does it take for a podcast to be accepted and found on the iTunes store?
Up to two weeks.
Two, how does iTunes define- copyright? I have heard numerous podcasts with sound bytes taken from tv and radio programs, and they have all been approved.
If the copyright owner raises a complaint, the podcast may be removed. Apple does not appear to automatically screen content.

Thank you for approving my feed iTunes . The only problem is, there is no art work, even though artwork was submitted correct sizes and formats were used. Why is this and how can the problem be rectified?
Thanks for getting back. Hadn't got round to re uploading the amended feed. I just did it now.
The only thing is, Feed Validator doesn't like it because of the picture size, and a couple of other things, it reeds the following:
Sorry
This feed does not validate.
line 22, column 14: width must be between 1 and 144: 1400 [help] <width>1400</width>
^
line 23, column 15: height must be between 1 and 400: 1400 [help] <height>1400</height>
^
line 25, column 21: XML parsing error: <unknown>:25:21: not well-formed (invalid token) [help]
<itunes:image href=http://www.whiteberg.com/Wdotfontitunes2.png" />
^
In addition, interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
Your feed appears to be encoded as "utf-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII" [help]
line 4, column 114: Self reference doesn't match document location [help]... dcast.xml" type="application/rss+xml" />

I submitted my podcast and I got an email saying error, I checked with the feed validator and got this message: This feed does not validate. line 40, column 6: Undefined item element: itunes:order, how do sort this out, someone help me please.
Ignore it. 'itunes:order' is a recent addition which FeedValidator doesn't know about. If your podcast is rejected that is unlikely to be the reason. Of course as you haven't posted the feed URL nor the text of the error message I can't make any further comment.

The "support" for app store (and itunes) is utter crap?
When I try to guy anything from the app store, I get a message telling me to complete the purchase through itunes support. there is no itunes support, and the link to this support forum from mac appstore support is broken. ***? I can download the software from pirate bay for free in 5 min, but there's no official way to get app store support from apple? I submitted an email and got a reply saying I'd get a reply in 24 hours. I wonder how long amazon would be in business if they had 24 hour delayed email sales support for the things they sell. What decade is this?
There is no error, but the way, just a friendly message telling me to use itunes support to complete the purchase, and itunes support tells me I can't get itunes support and suggested I send an email.
Wow. This is such a stark difference from the support I used to be able to get when Apple sold software in their stores.
This is obviously more of a rant than a question, but I am curious if anybody else can actually get sales support for items they are trying to buy from the app store, or if everybody is as ****** as I am.Interesting speculation. Not really the subject matter though, but FWIW, I don't use a bank card, I use paypal, and after this occurred, I went into itunes and made sure i could still buy things, so I bought an audio book. I then weint into paypal and made sure nothing there was obviously broken, and there wasn't anything I could see that was.
The problem I have is not that app store doesn't work (although, that's *a* problem), but the real issue is that *app store support* is broken. Or rather, it does't exist.
This is the new customer experience for all apple software, and rumor has is, hardware too (one day). This is so far below average that it really makes me wonder what the helll is going on at apple these days. -
Submitting Your Podcast to iTunes
I need to break my question into steps, otherwise it will get confusing. If there is anyone that can advise me on my next steps that would be great!
1. I submitted my Podcast and realized I submitted the incorrect feed URL.
2. I than removed my Podcast from iTunes.
3. While submitting the new feed URL I didn’t receive any prompt, so I thought I should submit the URL again.
4. I received this message reading, “it appears your feed has already been submitted.”
5. The first URL has no connection with the second (new) URL so I am wondering why I received this message. (it appears your feed has already been submitted)
Can anyone help!
HP 1740 Windows 2000I can't see any reason why there should be a problem. The only thing about your feed is that there is no 'itunes:duration' tag containing the duration of each episode in the format hh:mm:ss so that the Store can't know what the duration of the podcast is - however this shouldn't cause a problem about submissions.
Occasionally the submissions process falls over and give incorrect rejections, so possibly that's the problem. You could try leaving it for a day or so and trying again. -
Submitting Podcasts to Multiple iTunes Stores (iTunes Latino, Mexico, US)
I recently submitted a Spanish language podcast to the US iTunes store. It was accepted and is now available. I'd like to make sure it is also available via iTunes Mexico and iTunes Latino.
*Do I need to submit the podcast separately for these stores?*
If I do need to submit the podcast directly to these other stores, how do I accomplish that? Since my iTunes account is linked to the US store, I can't see iTunes Mexico or Latino for testing.
*Would I need to have separate computers, one linked to iTunes Mexico and one linked to iTunes Latino, in order to accomplish this?*
Thanks for any assistance. You can change the country for your iTunes Store at the bottom of the Store page, the bottom item under 'Manage'. The first thing to try is to change to the other Stores and check whether your podcast is in fact turning up in them - it may do: I don't know exactly how the country system works but I can see American podcasts in the UK Store and the reverse appears to be true.
If your podcast doesn't appear in these Stores you could try submitting again: either it will be accepted or it will be rejected on the grounds of having been already submitted.
In that event you will need to contact Support, though given their past record I can't hold out a lot of hope that you will get a cogent answer. Go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'. You will see a link to either 'Express Lane', which will guide you eventually to some contact options, or you may see a link to email them. -
I took my credit card number off b/c I was having problems with it and I was waiting for a new card , and itunes would not let me update and already purchased apps and TV seasons! What is that all about?!
I just called the 1-800-My-Apple and the said there is really nothing they can do about it. They said I had an outstanding payment of $8.54 (or something like that), I said I know b/c of the problem I am having with my bank, but NO previous completed purchases should have anything to do with this outstanding payment . It should not keep me from being able to update or download previously completely paid apps, TV Shows, or movies - they are mine, and I paid for them. I submitted a complaint.. that just isn't right!

Paul McCartney and iTunes Live on Apple TV?
So iTunes has been advertising that Paul McCartney's doing s live streaming performance on iTunes Live NOW. And that you can "stream it on your TV using your Apple TV -- just choose iTunes Live from the Internet menu." Great! But where's the iTunes Live option?!? I'm not seeing it in the Internet menu (w/ Netflix and Photostream and MobilMe and YouTube etc). And not finding it anywhere else. Have a brand new AppleTV 2, and if I try to do a system update on it it tells me I'm already up to date...
I have an original 1st Gen Apple TV, but didnt get any menu update to watch live streams. So I hooked up my macbook to the HDTV. At first the concert streamed ok for a bit then stalled, when it recovered the audio was way out of sync with the video. I stopped and started the broadcast and it worked again for a while and started stalling again. It seemed to get progressively worse through the broadcast. I figured it may be tha available bandwidth as I have about 2meg download (on good days).
What was everyone else using for their network connection, speeds etc?
It is a shame that Apple didn't post any recommended requirements for the broadcast. It's a neat idea but out here in the real world I don't think it is ready for prime time. -
Hello, i have just had my HD replaced in my iMac and it is running Mac OSX Lion and Safari and iTunes were running fine, until about 2 hours of usage and now safari and iTunes quits immediately. i have tried putting it to sleep and restarting and even logging out and shutting down and its doing the same.
Not sure if i have this right, but i went through what you said slowly

What should I do if I find my submitted App crashes and it's in "Waiting for Review" phase?
Hello All,
I submitted my App and I recently found it crashes at a certain point. What should I do?
I was thinking about "Rejecting the Binary" on iTunes Connect, then resubmitting a new binary.
Your thoughts.
JohnReject it yourself, fix the bug, do more testing, and resubmit.

Error during 10.8.2 Update - Appstore and iTunes Broken
Hi Guys,
I hope you can help me with this one.
I just installed the 10.8.2 update trough App Store, then it asked me to restart my computer... During the restart some error message appeared saying that the installation could not be completed due to an unexpected error, and then restarted my computer automatically.
The problem is, now both my App Store and iTunes are broken, here are the details of the error message I get when I try to launch App Store either normally or using the Apple > Software Update menu option:

Home Sharing is not working following update to iOS 5.1 and iTunes 10.6
First, the problem:
I am not able to see any shared libraries when using the Music and Video apps on my iPhone 4.
Next, the specs:
iTunes 10.6 on MBP running Mac OS X 10.7.3
iPhone 4 runinng iOS 5.1
Wi-Fi connections for both MBP and iPhone 4
Both connect to same network using same SSID with static IP addressing and UPnP enabled.
MBP connects using 5 GHz N-Only anntena.
iPhone 4 connects using 2.4 GHz NG-Mixed antenna. (Hopefully next iteration of iPhone supports 5 GHz.)
Third, what I have tried:
Everything in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing" (KB Article TS2972 - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972).
Re-entering my Apple ID credentials for both Music and Movies in iOS Settings.
Re-entering my Apple ID credentials for Home Sharing in iTunes.
Setting up Port Forwarding for both the iPhone 4 and MBP in my router for the relevant TCP and UDP ports (just in case). However, this did not help.
Finally, what I have noticed:
My Remote app on the iPhone 4 works without issue and can control iTunes running on my MBP.
My Air Mouse app on the iPhone 4 works without issue and can control my MBP.
My wireless printer connected to the network via the 2.4 GHz antenna (it only supports 802.11g) is usable - I can print to it and access its embedded web server management tool.
So, in the end, Home Sharing no longer works on my iPhone 4 after updating both IOS and iTunes (all other apps and software updates are current for both the phone and the MBP). I believe I have ruled out any issues with which antenna is being used for which device. I am out of ideas on how to get Home Sharing to work again.
Any suggestions or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you gurus in advance!Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department. Her suggestions: change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers. So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue. It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more. Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department. Make them aware of this problem! -
As I said, it's an iPhone 3GS (never jailbroken), iOS 4.1, PowerPC G4 OS X 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2. I have had the phone since new, never had any issues with it and am at my wits end trying to figure it out. I have seen many different solutions to this exact problem, but none have worked for me. Anyone have any ideas?
This is what I posted to someone else having an update issue... Just for your information:
I having the same issue about the and iTunes says "The iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.". I've had the iPhone 3GS since it came out. It was working fine until I just tried to update it. It has NEVER been hacked or jailbroken. WE AND A FEW OTHERS are having the same issue then it is more than likely that this is an update issue. I took mine to the Apple store and the tech tried to update it and he came to the same problem and told me he couldn't update it. My assumption is that we are not the only one's with this issue and that if there was a way to update it to the update before this last one it might be a solution. I don't know how to get the previous update. Apple probably is aware of the problem, and hasn't come up with a solution yet. Or, enough people haven't complained yet. The tech suggested that there might be something wrong with the phone itself, but that couldn't be since it was working perfectly before I updated it and others are having the same issue. It is highly unlikely that a lot of people are having the same hardware issue all of a sudden at the same time. Apple/iTunes needs to fix this... and hopefully soon
Also: I can update or restore my iPhone 5 and other iPhones so it is not an issue with my firewall or other software on my computer. No one touches my iPhone or my computer they are secure, locked all the time, and I have no jailbreak software on my computer (Apple tried it and they are clueless at the moment from what I can tell).

Open links from applications in new tabs
I want to make it so that when I click a link in, for example, Mail, instead of opening in a new window in Safari, it opens as a new tab in the most recently used Safari window. Is this possible, either with settings, or with a 3rd party application?
