Subnet Route masks
Hello,
We've run out of IP address on one of our class C networks, so what I trying to do is change the subnet mask of the Class C from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.252.0, thus giving us 1056 route-able address.
This seems to work well everywhere except in the routing table of our DNS server which happens to be A NW65 SP8 box with Border 3.9.
For example I added added extra NICs to the servers on this subnet running out of IPs and set up workstations with IPs in the 192.168.200.0/22 range and we can log into the servers, I added routes to our layer 3 switches and we can route to our SuperLumin's box (not in production yet) and we can access the internet. But when we try to access other devices on our network using DNS or try to access the internet using the Border box (production box) we can not.
When I tried to add the route to the box using inetcfg it seem to add, but using TCPCON the route isn't showing up and when I try to add the route through TCPCON I get an error stating the subnet mask is less than the default.
I haven't finished testing the SuperLumin's box yet, so moving it into production isn't an option at this time. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this limitation in Netware. Or do I just need to bite the bullet and move to a class B subnet.
Allen

First, you'd have 1022 usable addresses, not 1056 ((256*4)-2). I
believe I've heard in the past that NetWare's TCP/IP stack, while
typically handling this well, does not support the situation where it is
doing routing of "odd" netmasks such as /22. If you put your NetWare
box somewhere that it doesn't need to see this network excitement (for
example, on its own class C) and let the router handle all of this type
of traffic (perhaps putting NW in a DMZ or something) then this should
go away. I also sort of thought this was specific to when NetWare was
acting as a router but perhaps it's whenever NetWare is needing to do
any calculations for routing at all in this area.
Going to a Class B would also help if you've identified the issue
correctly, but it may be easier to just have the network's routers do
the routing and put the NetWare box where it is free from this type of work.
Good luck.

HELP: Wifi Problems (No IP, Subnet, Router, Etc. Shows Up)
Hello,
I have just recently noticed that there is a problem with my i touch. Ok so this is what happened. Earlier today i tried to look at what was in the appstore like any updates. When i tapped it, it said "Cannot Connect", so i tried to do reconnect with my router. When i tapped the (>) next the the wifi NOTHING is listed meaning no numbers are listed next to ip address, subnet mask, router, or DNS. It is just blank. My friend can connect perfectly with my wifi but when I try to it says " Cannot Connect" as it does with other wifi using apps. Help please!!!!!Hey thanks for the reply. Yea the resetting network settings did not work. My cable provider (Time Warner Cable)installed their router for me to use. Im not really sure what you mean by encryption method but I can give you my router model. As I said earlier the wifi works with all other devices except mine such as my other touch and my friends touch. I have an Ambit Cable Modem Issued by Time Warner Cable. Let me know if you need more info I'm only 12 and I don't understand a lot of tech. BTW I updated my iPod yesterday to 3.0 firmware and I noticed the problem when it was on 2.2 firmware.

Subnet/wildcard masks in ACS 5.1
We are trying to migrating from ACS 4.2 to 5.1. Abandoned trying to use the migrate utility when we ran into errors trying to use it and TAC said it was an unsupported utility. Amazing that no where in the manual did I see "Unsupported" mentioned.
One of the main things we are trying to do is to use a subnet or wildcard mask like we did in 4.2. For example, I have a network group rule in 4.2 that would allow 10.*.255.* to be authenticated by Tacacs using a particular given secret. I dont see a way that I can do this in ACS 5.1. I have to go from one rule for all of my edge routers to almost 100 rules since there doesnt appear to be a way to do this. I understand that the * is no longer supported but there doesnt seem to be a way to use a wildcard mask to minimize the number of rules it looks like I will have. This is just for the routers. I also have a host of switches, AP's and specialized network devices that I need to use a different shared secret for each type of device. In some cases I may have more than one type of network device int he same subnet range and need a different shared secret.
Would appreciate any suggestions.ACS 5.x does not support wildcards in the address field. You will have to use subnet masks instead.
You can set up a default device, which may or may not be what you need in your case. This would be the equivalent of entering *.*.*.* on ACS 4.x -
Mi424wr-gen3I no internet access from secondary subnet / router
All,
I am looking to provide internet access to my internal LAN / WLAN devices on another router. I have configured my second router to connect to the 192.168.1.0/24 network on the mi424wr LAN.
Static routes: 192.168.2.0/24 next hop 192.168.1.254 (secondary router interface connected to m1424wr LAN)
Firewall policy filter: Network Home Inbound and outbound allow access sourced and destined to both subnets.
I have layer 3 conectivity between the routers but I am not able to browse the internet from secondary router 192.168.2.0 network. My default router on the 192.168.2.0/24 is the 192.168.1.1 router.
I tried to modifiy the DNS setting for devices on the 192.168.2.0 net but nothing works. Used 192.168.1.1 (mi424wr interface which the setting for the 192.168.1.0 net devices. Even tried using verizon's DNS server 68.237.161.12 but no internet access. The mi424wr does have a dns server setting which I tried to statically add 192.168.2.x host but that did not work.
So I am not sure if the mi424wr DNS server is not allowing any other subnets beside the 192.168.1.0/24 to access its DNS services or some other policy is needed to be created. My secondary router is not NATing and at a loss.
Tried to research other methods of using my secondary router to connect to internet with the mi424wr-gen3I but nothing seems worth trying. Setting the mi424wr-gen3I to bridge mode would be an option but have not seen any configuration for the REV I router vesion. My last setup worked in bridge mode and STB were functional but VOD was always very choppy. Seem there are some QoS setting the mi424wrI has configure to improve traffic priority for video.
Any assistance appreciated.
RichAs STX said. All you need to do is to connect an ethernet cable from a lan port of the Verizon router to the wan port of your own router. Your own router needs to be configured with an address on the 192.168.1 subnet, either dhcp or static, yours is you say at 192.168.1.254 as is mine. Then you should have configured the dhcp side of your router with a subnet other than 192.168.1 which apparently you have done. You do not need static routes or anything else for devices on the 192.168.2 subnet to access the internet, other than valid DNS server addresses - did you set valid dns servers addresses in the static ip internet connection on your router? You could set it to 192.168.1.1 and pick up whatever dns the vz router is using or you could set it dns servers of your choice, personally I set mine to opeDNS server addresses.
What kind of router is the second router?
Your description of your setup sound OK and the only difference I see between your setup and mine is that you say your second router is not NATing -
AD authentication for routed local subnet
Good day,
I'm testing the addition of a routed local subnet to existing network and seem to be experiencing trouble with AD authentication.
Primary network:
Subnet: 192.168.0.0/24
Default GW: 192.168.0.1
PDC/DHCP/DNS1: 192.168.0.2
BDC/DNS2: 192.168.0.3
Routed network:
Subnet: 192.168.17.0/24
Default GW: 192.168.17.1
DNS1/2: 192.168.0.2/192.168.0.3
DHCP relay is configured and functioning.
Primary network gateway has persistent route for subnet 192.168.17.0/24 hopping via router IP 192.168.0.122.
Ping tests OK both ways and internet is browsable from clients in routed network.
Problem occurs when clients in routed network attempt to access domain resources in primary network. Using
net view //test-host results in 5 minute pause and then "Access Denied". Unable to view //test-domain/netlogon
I have added routed subnet to existing default-first-site in AD Sites and Services.
I'm certain I'm missing something simple here and will appreciate any advice.Hi Christoffer, thanks for your reply.
There are no firewall rules active between the two subnets, however our primary network gateway is a Forefront TMG MBE firewall. To my knowledge this should not interfere with the inter-subnet routing however there could be access/policy rules that determine
how TMG (localhost) responds to traffic from routed subnet. Will need to look closely at this if AD authentication is not at fault.
The nltest queries also seem return successful responses:

ASA 5510 with Cisco 2811 Router Behind it - Not forwarding traffic
Hi all,
Some might know that I have been dealing with an issue where I cannot seem to get forwarded packets to reach their destinations behind an ASA 5510 that has a Cisco 2811 connected directly behind it.
Some examples that work.
I can SSH into the ASA.
I can SSH to the Cisco Routers behind the ASA.
I cannot reach items beind the Cisco Routers.
My Configuration is this (I am sure I included a bunch of info I didn't need to, but I am hoping it'll help!):
I have a static Ip assigned to my Ouside Interface Ethernet 0/1
It has an IP address of 199.195.xxx.xxx
I am trying to learn how to shape network traffic (this is all new to me) via the ASA and the Routers to specific devices.
The Inside Interface on the ASA is 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.252
The Outside Interface on the 2811 is 10.10.1.2 255.255.255.252
I can ping the router from the ASA. I can SSH through the ASA to the router.
BUT I CANNOT ACCESS DEVICES BEHIND THE ROUTER.
So, I wanted to BAM that statement above because I just don't kjnow where the issue is. Is the issue on the router or the ASA, my guess is, the router, but I just don't know.
Here are my configs, helpfully someone can help.
ASA errors on the ASDM when I try and hit resources; specifically a web device behind the ASA and the 2811. It's Ip address 192.168.1.5 it's listening on port 80.Static IP, not assigned via DHCP.

no message-leI ran those commands while I had the nat off on the router and here are the results. note, i didn't make any changes to the ASA as you only said to remove the router RIP which I did and reloaded and no change.
As long as the statements ip nat outside on the Fastethernet 0/0 is off and the ip nat inside is off on the vlan and the overload statement is taken out, I cannot hit the internet.

Hi Everyone.... I need urgent help on the below scenario....
ISP Managed Router connected to ADSL & looked for me to view or change configuration.... i have successfully configured my own 2921 to work with ISP router with IP NAT, Internet is working for all my LAN Users.
After connecting the VPN from outside to managed services router... i am able to reach my 2921 (10.10.10,100) but unable to access Internal LAN interface which is (10.10.100.1) on-wards....
ISP Managed Router (10.10.10.1) >>>>>>>>>> (10.10.10.100) MY Router (2921) (10.10.100.1)>>>>>>>>>>DHCP Users (10.10.100.21 to 100)
CONFIGURATION OF 2921 Attached.
Please give suggestions and advise if i need to so some more settings on 2921.Hi Paul,
I have changed the config as required.... yes ISP router side is 10.10.10.1
Still issues.... Internet is working fine for my LAN users...
When i connect VPN on ISP managed router - 78.93.181.41 its connected....
I can ping 10.10.10.0 range.... and able to reach my router which is 10.10.100.1.... but unable to access anything on 10.10.100.0 (which is my LAN)
Any ideas.... as i asked ISP to allow this in their router which they did....
access-list 10 permit 10.10.100.0 0.0.0.255
this what i get from 2921 now....

So, with all the changes on my network I seem to have forgotten all the basic information I have learned over time. I have my 3560 as the "core" switch/router running ospf. Everything works fine on the switch itself. But on port G0/21 is my ASA firewall. As I've previously posted the IPs I will do again.

G0/21 no switchport ip address 10.3.0.4 -------> ASA 10.3.0.10

I did a extended ping and said to ping from 10.2.0.2 and was not able to ping 10.3.0.10 which is sitting attached to G0/21

Thanks in advanceThis is from the Core switch.
The 10.2.0.2 is not a loopback interface it's the vlan 1 ip address (yes, I know my bad). Working on getting off that vlan. Addresses other than 10.2.0.0/16 are actually on different vlans from a different distribution switch.

Routing issue. EIGRP/Static's Vlans... eek
First, I have minimal experience with Routing Layer3.
Just some Vlan Layer3 stuff, but nothing like this...I'm sure some of you recognize me from some Vlan, HSRP, and port-security stuff...
I notice when I try to get to this 228.5 address, it takes
quite a while. Here is the tracert:
C:\Documents and Settings\sk>tracert 200.1.228.5
Tracing route to 200.1.228.5 over a maximum of 30 hops
1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 200.2.131.1
2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 200.2.129.37
3 1043 ms 627 ms 648 ms 10.22.103.2
4 617 ms 710 ms 630 ms 200.1.225.246
5 651 ms 620 ms 624 ms 200.1.225.245
6 661 ms 637 ms 642 ms 200.1.228.5
7 * * * Request timed out.
8 * ^C
Yet when I tracert 228.2 in the same network, I get:
C:\Documents and Settings\sk>tracert 200.1.228.2
Tracing route to 200.1.228.2 over a maximum of 30 hops
1 1 ms 3 ms 1 ms 200.2.131.1
2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 200.2.129.36
3 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 200.1.228.2
4 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 200.1.228.2
Trace complete.
That 200.2.131.1 address is VLAN12 on a Layer3 switch.
We have a few Layer3's, but this switch has the highest
standby priority...
This is a 'sh ip route' from the Layer3
LAY3#sh ip route | include 200.1.228.0
200.1.228.0/24 is variably subnetted, 3 subnets, 3 masks
S 200.1.228.0/24 [1/0] via 200.1.228.64
Now, I don't have access to the 228.64 Router, but shouldn't
this routing be done via the Layer3?
Eek, this stuff probably isn't nearly enough info for you guys
to make an educated guess. But can someone explain to me the
possible scenerios on why the tracert would take two different paths for two different IP's in the same network? You are correct that there is not enough here to really determine what is causing this. I notice that while both destination addresses may be in the same subnet that after the first hop they are taking different paths through the network. If you want to investigate this I suggest that you start at 200.2.131.1. Do more than show ip route include 200.1.228.0. It would be interesting to see the results for show ip route 200.1.228.5 and the results for show ip route 200.1.228.2.
It certainly looks like that device has multiple routes. It could be because there are static routes somewhere, it could be that there are mismatches in the subnet mask being advertised by some devices. It could be that the switch has two equal cost paths to that subnet and is doing per destination load sharing.
And you are making an assumption that both addresses are in the same subnet. In fact if some were to configure those addresses with a /30 mask (255.255.255.252) they would be in different subnets.

Routing issue with ASA and UC540 phone system - at ASA???
Having an issue with routing from the PC at .242 to the CUE server at 10.1.10.1. The CUE server is built into the UC540 phone system. It is an internal piece of software that is used for voicemail and management. The UC540 is not only a call router, it is also an IOS router. It has it's own WAN connection as does the ASA.
Here are some facts:
1. Can ping the UC540's internal CUE server from the PC ( ping to 10.1.10.1 )
2. Can ping the UC540's VLAN 1 address from the PC ( ping to 10.1.10.1 )
3. The ASA is the default gateway for the PC.
4. I have a route inserted at the asa that is:
route 10.1.10.1 255.255.255.0 10.19.250.254 1
5. I have a nat statement that prevents NAT from occuring but I don't think this is necessary as the 10.1.10.0/24 network isn't otherwise defined on the ASA.
6. I cannot pull up a web page when I point the browser on the PC to the 10.1.10.1 address
7. I CAN pull up a web page on the PC when I create a static route on the PC iteslf :
route add 10.1.10.1 mask 255.255.255.0 10.19.250.254
Is is only with this route that I am able to get to the web GUI on the phone system.
8. The phone system has a loopback interface at 10.1.10.2 that serves as the gateway for the internal CUE server, the internal CUE server is at 10.1.10.1
9. The switch is a 2960 and has a trunk port to the phone system to allow for the voice vlan which is at 10.1.1.0/24, no issues with this vlan and phones are connecting to the system fine.
Since I can get the GUI to come up when I set a static route on the PC, then I would assume that the routing in the phone system with it's internal server is fine as it wouldn't work otherwise. Since I can successfully ping the CUE server from the PC, that would lead me to believe that the ASA's routing is setup correctly..... TCP traffic doesn't seem to get to/from the CUE server.
Here are the routing tables:

Any help appreciated!!!
Thanks!Hello,
Where you able to solve this problem? It does sound like an issue with TCP state checking on the ASA. The Firewall needs to see both sides of the traffic but the return traffic is going from your UC540 direct to the PC. The firewall essentially kills the traffic.
I would recommend disabling TCP state checking on the ASA and see if it works. Otherwise, you will need to stub route the UC540 as a separate VLAN off the ASA which needs to route through the ASA to reach the PC.
Here is a info page on the TCP State Bypass:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/asa-5500-x-series-next-generation-firewalls/111986-asa-tcp-bypass-00.html
Please let me know how it works out. -

First i would like to Thank you for showing interest in solving my issue...After some research i found that desabling the " IP CEF" will solve the issue...when i desable i was able to communicate success fully with the router lan..But when i desable " IP CEF " Router cpu processer goes to 99% and hangs...
In the output of " sh process cpu" it shows 65% of utilization from "IP INPUT"
so plz give me an alternate solution ....thanks in advance.... -

Problem with routing - Need help
Hello,
I need a little direction with what I think is a routing problem. Any help will be appreciated. My setup is as follows:
Cable Modem
27.177.21.9
WAN - Gi0/0
27.177.21.10
Cisco 2901
LAN - Gi0/1
192.168.1.250
Client
192.168.1.10
The Problem
Router can ping LAN interface
Router cannot ping WAN interface -X
Router can ping Cable Modem
Client
Client can ping LAN interface
Client can ping WAN interface
Client cannot ping Cable Modem -X
Here is my routing table:
Gateway of last resort is 27.177.21.9 to network 0.0.0.0 (this is my cable modem)

IP SLA, Tunnels, and static routes
Here's the scenario: 1 router will have a primary and secondary ISP connection. I set up an SLA to track connectivity on the primary connection. Here are the static routes:
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Tunnel55 track 10
ip route 12.54.X.X 255.255.255.240 GigabitEthernet0/0 track 10
ip route 12.54.X.Y 255.255.255.255 X.15.115.X track 10
ip route 192.168.32.0 255.255.240.0 Tunnel55 track 10
ip route 192.168.48.0 255.255.252.0 Tunnel55 track 10
ip route 192.168.56.0 255.255.255.0 Tunnel55 track 10
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Tunnel56 254
ip route 12.54.X.X 255.255.255.240 GigabitEthernet0/1 254
ip route 12.54.X.Y 255.255.255.255 X.15.81.X 254
ip route 192.168.32.0 255.255.240.0 Tunnel56 254
ip route 192.168.48.0 255.255.252.0 Tunnel56 254
ip route 192.168.56.0 255.255.255.0 Tunnel56 254
So I shut down the port (gi0/0) belonging to the primary port. At this point, it seemed like it worked fine. The routes shifted over to the backup routes. However, when I re-enabled the port, only two of the routes switched back. The routes pointing to Tunnels stayed on the secondary tunnel. When I browsed my static routes, I saw this:
Gateway of last resort is 0.0.0.0 to network 0.0.0.0
S* 0.0.0.0/0 is directly connected, Tunnel56
12.0.0.0/8 is variably subnetted, 2 subnets, 2 masks
S 12.x.x.16/28 is directly connected, GigabitEthernet0/0
S 12.x.y.20/32 [1/0] via x.15.115.x
S 192.168.32.0/20 is directly connected, Tunnel56
S 192.168.48.0/22 is directly connected, Tunnel56
S 192.168.56.0/24 is directly connected, Tunnel56
Is there something special I need to do for Tunnels to allow the Tunnel routes to switch back automatically?Hello Ken,
I can see you are sending the probe packets to the same object ( using the track ID 10 )
After you bring the interface tunnel up, can you confirm if you can send traffic to that object?
Regards,
Julio -
