Subpicture Highlight shifts position on button when a shadow is applied in PS.

Hi all,
I created a menu in PS CS4 with text (some with drop shadows) that i assigned as buttons in Encore CS4. When i converted the text into buttons, I discovered that the ones with drop shadows caused the subpicture highlight to shift position up and to the right of the button.
Can someone verify this?

Jim,
I'm not sure why you are having troubles with your converted to DV-AVI files. I get handed MPEG-2 material in several delivery schemes, and just do the conversion with DigitalMedia Converter, before I Import into PrPro. I seldom have any issues with these. The only issue is that with a very few, PrPro does not see the proper Duration. I have found that with these, I just open them in PrElements (they always show correct Duration), and then just do an Export as DV-AVI Type II (same exact format/CODEC and settings as what I Imported), and these "processed" files work 100% in PrPro. I've never been able to find any difference between the DMC converted DV-AVI's, and those run through PrE, but there has to be something different.
As for the quality, you have to remember that the source footage was first compressed to MPEG-2, and to get it onto DVD, you'll be recompressing it again. Now, for light editing, there are NLE programs that do "smart rendering," where the Exported MPEG-2 will NOT be re-compressed, except for the exact areas that were changed. PrPro does not have smart rendering.
Exporting to DV-AVI Type II, and Importing those into Encore, will give you quality as good as it will get. You CAN Export as MPEG-2 (DVD-compliant) from PrPro and can adjust your bit-rate (controls quality), but you are likely to not do better than Encore will on Automatic.
Working from perviously compressed material will never yield results as good as going back to the original camera footage. Those compressions/re-compressions destroy quality.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - globally replacing Assets in PrPro is not really possible. Unless CS4.2 (coming soon) has a new feature in the Project Panel, I only know of one way - Offline Media, the Link Media. As there are no Actions, or Scripting in PrPro, like in Photoshop, it's a manual, and often tedious process.

  • Odd greyscale behavior when drop-shadow is applied.

    I have a file with four images in it. One is RGB and three are greyscale jpeg images. They all look fine.
    Now, when I put a drop-shadow effect on the images, the RGB image looks as expected; but, the greyscale images all look lighter than before.
    I exported a PDF of the two pages (I made a duplicate so one page has the shadow and one does not) with the PDF-X/1a profile. All of the greyscale images look lighter, even the page without the shadow, which looks darker in InDesign. The RGB image looks the same on both pages an in the PDF.
    Why do the greyscale images look lighter when a drop-shadow is applied? Or, maybe a better question is, why does the image without the drop shadow look darker? (The darker image looks more natural. I opened the Greyscale images in both Apple's Preview and in Photoshop. Preview displays the nicer-looking darker image, but Photoshop shows the images as being lighter, the way it looks in the exported PDF.
    Any ideas?

    Thank you for this interesting discussion.
    I set the Transparency Blend Space to RGB* and now all of the grayscale images look the same. They have all taken on the darker appearance. Until, of course, when I turn Overprint Preview on, in which case they all get lighter. In Photoshop, the image seems to be in-between the light and dark looks in ID.
    You know, up until today, I was feeling pretty good about color on the computer, thinking all the problems of the past were behind us. Oh well!
    Anyway, I have another question about Transparency Flattener Presets. It is set to Low by default in ID. I suppose this is to speed up rendering time. Now, when I export to a PDF there is a Transparency Flattener setting there, if the PDF is an X-1a file. In that case, does ID ignore the setting in the file under the Edit menu?
    Also, I set the Transparency Flattener Preset in ID to High, but it always returns to Low when I check again. Why is this? (The Low, Medium, and High settings are surrounded by brackets, like this: [Low]. Does that mean anything?) So, what  does the Transparency Flattener Settings affect? A print made directly from the file? The preview in ID? I thought I had all this down, but now I am a little confused.
    *(BTW, this piece will be used as an outdoor poster on a kiosk and the media company has requested an RGB JPEG file, so I will be exporting this as a PDF-X/4 and then opening it in Photoshop before saving it as a JPEG. So, I know, the best thing to do is to convert the grayscale images as RGB files and maybe even adding a little tint, perhaps. But I am still curious about the other questions.)

  • Highlight appears over rewind button when using Tab key

    I am using Captivate 4 and publishing with Actionscript 3.  When the user enters text, they can use the tab key as a shortcut key to move to the next field.  However, when they use the tab key, a highlight appears over the rewind key in the control bar.  I have tried the no_yellow_tab widget and that did not work with captivate 4/actionscript 3.  I also tried adding so.addParam("seamlesstabbing", "false"); to the html and this did nothing as well.  Any ideas?
    Thank you,

    Hi there
    You might try inserting a Click Box object at the top of your timeline. Configure it to do nothing if clicked and so there is no visible indication.
    I've seen it before where focus shifts instead to the hidden object and prevents it from reaching the playback controls. My thought is that after Tab is pressed, focus will then be placed on the hidden Click Box which, of course, the user will not see and will do nothing if they click.

  • Clips shift position on timeline when using time stretch

    Premiere Elements 10, Win 7 x64,
    I put together a timeline that had four video tracks. When I added a fifth track I started having problems. Specifically, when I put a still image or video clip onto the fifth track and then used time stretch on that newly added clip, the existing clips on the third and fourth tracks shifted their position on the timeline in response to the time stretch applied to the clip on the track above. Why does this happen? I would expect the clips on the lower video tracks to NOT move position in response to a time stretch change to a clip on a track above. How I can I get them to stay put while manipulating the duration of clips on the tracks above them?
    Thank you for any insights.
    I have attached three images to make what I am experiencing more clear than perhaps my words describe above.
    (top) Image 001: timeline before any change
    (middle) Image 002: timeline after adding video track 5 and adding a still image to that track
    (bottom) Image 003: timeline after applying time stretch to the still image clip on track 5, showing shift of clips on tracks 3 & 4

    When Adobe was designing the operations on the PrE Timeline, it was determined that the majority of users WOULD want the Ripple. That does seem to be the case. The addition of the Ctrl/Cmd modifier key accommodates those users, or those instances, where the Ripple is not desired.
    Interestingly, PrPro, PrE's "big-brother" does things in the opposite order. The user holds down the Ctrl/Cmd key to GET the Ripple. The designers figured that the users of PrPro would have different desires, than those of PrE. As I use both programs, I have to keep reminding myself which program I am using at that time - to get the Ctrl/Cmd modifier key working, as I wish, in each program - just the opposite of each other.
    Good luck,

  • How can you have the app tabs positioned to the right of the FireFox button when maximized?

    App tabs are '''normally''' positioned to the right of the FireFox button. However, when you shrink the window and then maximize again the app tabs appear below the FireFox button.
    Anytime an app tab is open and you maximize, adjust window, maximize, the entire tab bar is bumped down under the FireFox button. Having just regular tabs open does not have this problem as they correctly position themselves to the right of the FireFox button when maximized.

    Zero is in the middle where it says "none".

    Can anyone please advise why one of my div boxes (the third one) in Dreamweaver shifted position when previewed on Firefox and IE?  My other two div boxes have no problem when previewed on browsers.

    Hi Preran,
    Sure, I can share with other users but I am not sure this solution was the best, but it works for me.   Somehow something about Dreamweaver is very complicated to use and understand- just in my opinion.  All I did was to add another div box outside of the 3rd text box which I created as div box (also did it for the 2nd text box since they aligned close to each other).  I know it shouldn't be needed since the text box is already a div box itself and my 1st and 2nd text boxes were okay.
    Preran- please see my other question posted and maybe you can help?  Thank you.

  • Simple Question: How to make a text subpicture highlight not appear by default?

    I'm sure I am missing some very easy one-button solution here, but here goes...
    I have a menu with just one single button on it. I have the 'Create Text Subpicture' box checked in the button properties panel. What I want is for the highlight to appear only when I roll over the button. But when I preview the menu, the button highlight is on automatically. It functions just fine. I just need to solve this one little highlight issue.
    Is it as easy as I am thinking it is?
    Thanks!

    How do I assign rollover states? I've looked but can't find any reference to it.
    Thanks!

  • "relative" positioning of buttons in a JFrame

    I want to draw an image as a background on a JFrame and then position several buttons in the frame such that when the frame is resized, the background is resized and the buttons remain "over" the same thing in the background image. I've tried to "do the right thing" and use a layout manager to position the buttons, but they just don't seem to behave like I need them to.
    Is there an easy way to get a button to appear at e.g. 70% horizontally across the frame and 40% down the frame? And then when I resize, have the button still be 70% across and 40% down (based on the new size of the frame). Or should I just give up on the layout managers, and calculate my own absolute positions for everything?
    Thanks

  • Help with subpicture highlights on looping motion menus

    I created a motion menu in After Effects.  The menu is 11 seconds long.  I set a loop point at 5;18.  When I preview in Encore, the loop is great and everything looks fine.  However, when I burn the disc and play it in a computer, DVD player or PS3, the subpicture highlight disappears at the loop point for a second and then reappears.  It is driving me crazy.  Is this something that is normal, or did I do something wrong in creating the menu?

    Hi,
    the trouble you're describing is an usual bug for bluray projects, in this way: "no lights at the end of the tunnel".
    About DVD things change: I've never experienced this one.
    This may have several answers: from a bad (corrupted) disc (in this way I can suggest Verbatim) to a menu construction problem (bitrate for example........).
    Have you tried to create a DVD folder, then test it with a sw player like Power DVD (version 10 is good for DVD, no more than the 8th if you wanna test a BD folder).

  • Position of buttons as3

    I need some help with Positions of buttons in AS3. I made a IRC client with AS3, but when a user join a channel, there will be a button added, but if there is already a button and the user join new channel on IRC, there will be added new button also, this for every channel that a user does join, but It should to be positioned after the last button (side by side). Same for if a user join more channels. How can i do this on best way with x and y positions? Ofcourse, it must check first if there is already button on the position if a user did join channel.
    This is my code for now:
    const PADDING:uint = 10;
    const NUM_BUTTONS:uint = 10;
    onChannelButton();
    function onChannelButton():void {

                btn.name = "btn";

                btn.x = (btn.width + PADDING) * i;

  • Can't switch buttons when playing on a dvd player

    I searched the discussions and was unable to find an answer to my problem.
    How do you get the dvd to select different buttons when played on a dvd player? When I play the dvd on a computer the buttons are highlighted when the mouse is placed on them, but when I play the dvd on a dvd player, I can't get it to navigate through the different buttons on the menus. I can only select the first button on the page. I'm sure this is a simple fix, but I can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Choose the button and go into the advanced tab in the inspector. You can then set the Up, Down, Left and Right function for your dvd buttons. DVD SP will set it up automatically if you like BUT if you have a more complex menu you can set your button navigation manually. Manually gives you a little more control and creativity. When you simulate in DVD SP the buttons will highlight as if on a computer if you use your mouse. If you were to use the button keys (up down arrows) in the simulator you would notice they don't work either. Set you button navigation in the advanced tab in the button inspector...

  • Text in subpicture highlight

    I'm trying to do the simplest thing. Having a text in button subpicture highlight, so that once the button is highlighted a text appears below.
    Ok, it work, but the text is really ugly. Read on the forum that it's because of the lack of anti-alias and that the subpicures can only handle unicolors.
    STILL, IS THERE NO WAY OF DOING THIS WITHOUT HAVING THE TEXT APPEARING LOOKING LIKE HELL?
    I've already read tons of threads about how you should choose sans seriff fonts and which colors to use etc. but nothing seems to work for me.  It always looks ugly!

    I've already read tons of threads about how you should choose sans seriff fonts and which colors to use etc. but nothing seems to work for me.  It always looks ugly!
    With regards to Sub-picture Highlights, this info will not apply. However, with text in other aspects of one's Menu, it will.
    It is a limitation in the DVD-specs.

  • Acrobat X - Images edited in PhotoShop shift position

    In A9 and previous, I would use TouchUp Object Tool, edit the pic in PhotoShop, attach a profile, save the file, and the image would update in the PDF.
    When I do this now, the image shifts position. It seems to be scaling itself to fill a frame that is supposed to be cropped with a clipping path. I can't tell for sure though exactly what is going on.
    I don't see a preference setting that would be causing this.
    If there is no work-around for this I will have to go back to A9. I don't have access to the native files that create these PDFs and I need to be able to adjust the color.
    Mac OS 10.6.8, CS 6
    Sorry if there is already a thread for this but I can't see one.
    Thanks

    Thank you for replying as nobody else did.
    I've already switched back to A9.
    I shouldn't have to upgrade again - I should be able to use the software I just paid for.
    Sorry if that sounds rude but I can't be the only person who had that issue.

  • How to position two buttons on top of div element inside a div container?

    Hello!
    Good news...

    Here are the things I've done to troubleshoot:
    If I put the div element as an absolute container, the left button disapears.
    I get the same effect when I change the position to relative.
    I tried changing the position to relative for both buttons.
    I also tried to position the buttons outside the Main Div container and no go.
    How can I position the relative div element under these controller button?
    Any help would be muchly appreciated.
