I'm try to access these same calendars by subscribing from the iPhone.

  • Can't subscribe to .ics calendar

    Hello,
First of all, sorry for my bad English.
I have published a calendar from Ical to my private server (Imac running 10.6.2). When I want to subscribe to that .ics file from an other computer (other Imac running 10.6.2), it fails. When I subscribe from a computer running OSX 10.4 or 10.5 there's no problem.
    This is the error:
*There was an error subscribing to the calendar.*
*The data downloaded from http://server.name.lan/calendars/name.ics isn’t valid.*
I think the problem has to do with the server settings. But I don't know for sure and I don't know how to solve. The server is a Xserve running 10.5 server. For some reason Ical have permission top place the .ics file, but he can't acces is anymore. The permission settings are oke, everybody on the network can read and write the files.
I could send the errors if someone need them to help.
    Thanx

The authentication requested is a javascript form of the apple web interface to ical (Web server -> Sites -> Web Services -> Calendar). It is an apple application, i didn't set up any access control, if i go into the file system of http://www.my_site.com/ical (/Library/WebServer/Documents/my_site) there is nothing. It seems all saved under:
    bash-3.2# pwd
    /Library/CalendarServer/Documents/calendars/_uids_/08/46/084627AA-F6CF-481C-A0EF-421E878ADBCF/calendar
    bash-3.2# ls
    .db.sqlite a32259e5d9222e11c83f9b8487e0e041.ics
    bash-3.2#
and there must be an apple web application in order to interact with it, that is why i thought that the username and password defined in the publish calendar form were related to the apple authentication mechanism.
I'm using MacOSX server 10.6.2 on my own machine with my own domain. So what i'm doing is setting up the calendar web service on a test site, try to publish a calendar (from ical) to the location of the test site and then try to subscribe to the webcal:// ... link that he provides me.
If i try to access http://www.my_site.com/ical/calendar.ics or http://www.my_site.com/ical the apple web interface comes up asking me the credentials. If I enter the correct ones (defined in the publish form) i get the following message from the apple web interface:
    Mac OS X Server
    404: User does not exist
The path seems correct 'coze if subscribe from ical to webcall://www.my_site.com/ical/calendar.icsit tells me that:
There was an error subscribing to the calendar.
The data downloaded from http://www.my_server.com/ical/name.ics isn’t valid.
if i enter another path i will get this error:
A calendar wasn’t found on webcal://www.myserver/my_user/ical/mycalendar.ics. Check the URL.
If i would use an FTP application i would not find anything on that path because all is managed by the apple web service interface.
    Thanks !!

  • Publishing and subscribing to ICS calendars

Is there a way to publish calendars that others can subscribe to? The only thing I know how to do with the iCal server even a little bit is CalDAV, but that doesn't seem to allow subscriptions.
Also, I can't find a place where it just says the user (like a folder that stores the data). It's just these weird combinations of characters. Is there a way to make it simpler?
    Thanks,
    vidg

You could perhaps setup the WebDAV stuff in the web server settings like before which doesn't require/use iCal server?
With iCal server you instead delegate access to your calendar(s) with either only read or read and write priviledges to others. You do this in iCal (3.0/Leopard).
You need OD and preferably bind your client machines to it.

  • Subscribe to Outlook published ICS calendar ?

I am trying to subscribe to an Outlook ICS calendar. This works fine on a PC with outlook, but I am an unable to subscribe on ipad or iphone ("Cannot verify account information") Thanks for feedback!

I was asking about Windows Outlook 2010, not Outlook for Mac 2011. I know about Outlook for Mac's deficiencies... all too well

  • Subscribing to ICS file on my own (the same) Mac

I have a task management program that outputs an updated ICS iCal file periodically. In iCal, I want to be able to "Subscribe" to that ICS file which, obviously, is located on the same Mac I'm using to subscribe. Is there a way to subscribe to that ICS on my Mac without going through the internet? (I don't want to use Importing since that will create duplicate entries of old events.)
Ideally, the ICS file (periodically outputed by my task manager app) would be read automatically (without importing duplicate entries) everytime I open iCal.

Found this on the FAQ for the program I was using, which by the way, seems to be a good, cross-platform java-based GTD app called Thinking Rock. (Don't let the java descriptor dissuade you. This is a fairly speedy program as java apps go.)
Don't know if WebDAV is the same as setting up Personal Web Sharing (also involves slightly modifying a hidden file using Terminal to limit public access). Here's the link to the Thinking Rock FAQ posting that, I hope, when followed (by me) will provide the needed solution. All credit for the described solution (below) goes to the author of the FAQ posting. Thank for it!

PostPosted: Sun Sep 10, 2006 3:37 pm Post subject: How to Subscribe to your TR data in iCal and Sunbird/Moz Cal Reply with quote
If you're interested in seeing your scheduled items, Next Actions, etc. in iCal or Sunbird (Mozilla Calendar), but don't know how to subscribe to a calendar you publish yourself, here's a few notes:
    * One easy way to do this is simply to create a calendar, and then Import into it... this works fine in both iCal and Sunbird.
The only caveat is that you have to delete this calendar and then re-import when you want to see the updated calendar.
Note that the file you are importaing is "thinking-rock.ics"... it's probably in the same folder as your "thinking-rock.xml" file unless you've set a different path in TR's preferences pane.
Why would you want to do this? If you're using Sunbird/Mozilla Calendar (which, btw, is a great program, is open-source and free, and is available for OSX, Windows, and Linux -- give it a whirl, you might like it) then there's no reason to (see notes below).
If you're using iCal, then you might want to do this if you don't want to go to the trouble of setting up or turning on your personal web server.
    * To really subscribe the calendar, you need to put it into a webserver's root... unless you're using Sunbird.
    For Sunbird:
Choose the Subscribe Calendar menu option (under Files), and then choose Remote calendar.
Name the calendar, give it a color, and then enter something like this for the URL:
    File://users/myname/thinking-rock.ics
Note that you have to specify the full path to the file, from root... on OSX, if you store your calendar in your Home folder, and your name is "myname", the above path would work. Or if its in the Documents folder, it would be:
    File://users/myname/documents/thinking-rock.ics
Note that this same approach will work under Korganizer in Linux.
Here's the key point with this method: you DO NOT have to enable Personal Web Sharing (i.e., Apache) on OSX or Windows or Linux... there is no web server involved, because Sunbird is just reading the file directly.
And this is true subscription calendar... it will update itself with any changes at the interval you specify, and it is not necessary to delete and re-import anything, as in the first example I gave above.
    For iCal (OSX only):
Unfortunately, OSX is "too smart" (or too stupid... take your pick Smile ) to allow a File:// URL.... it requires an http:// url.....
So, you MUST enable your Personal Web Server to Subscribe to a calendar. You do this in your System Prefences panel, under Sharing.
Once you've done this, set TR to put your ICS file in your /users/myname/sites folder.... then give iCAL this as the url:
    http://localhost/~myname/thinking-rock.ics
That will subscribe the calendar, as described above.
    IMPORTANT SECURITY WARNING:
For iCal users, please note this very important point... if you do the above, you have posted your Scheduled Items, Next Actions, etc. to a PUBLICLY acessible location.
For most people, I would think this is an unacceptable situation, so there are some things you need to do to prevent others from accessing this information:
    - Edit your httpd.conf file to DENY ALL and then setup a single ALLOW for just your internal machine name. (If you don't know what I mean, just google "Apache config httpd allow deny" for more info... or email me privately).
    - Stop and the re-start Personal Web Sharing after you make this change to have this take effect.
    - Double-check yourself.... if you can, use another computer on your network to go to http://your-ip-address/~username/thinking-rock.ics ... make sure you get an error that indicates you are denied access.
Once TR 1.2.2 is finalized, I'll write a more detailed FAQ and post it in the hopes that this will be useful for other users.
In closing, once again I have to really thank the developers for doing a great job with this one specific feature.... and also I hope my ramblings haven't dissuaded anyone from trying this.... especially under Mozilla Calendar, this is totally easy to do, and gives you an immensely powerful tool. And even under iCal, with some tweaking, you also get a powerful capability... definitely worth the small time and effort needed to set this up.

  • Cannot subscribe to public calendars

I need to get a hold of public holidays in Spain and the UK. When trying to subscribe to the iCals from Apple's website I get an error message, that the server is down or somthing.
I've been trying this for 3 days now and it annoys me...
I'm trying this import this calendar: webcal://ical.mac.com/ical/Spain32Holidays.ics
    PowerMac G5 1.8 DP, MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    rubberbandman,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I just successfully subscribed to the calendar that you referenced.
If you are interested, there are two other Spanish Holiday calendars available on iCalShare.
    ;~)

  • Publish iCal Calendar using Tiger Server

I've been searching for a simple way to publish iCal calendars using Tiger Server. Here is what I need to do:
I need one user to be able to publish multiple "studio schedule" calendars to the Tiger server...and I need all the regular users in the studio to be able to subscribe to it so that they can see what work they have scheduled for the day. The regular users do NOT need to be able to make changes to the calendar...they only need to see it. (and print it if needed) Only the studio manager needs to be able to see and edit the published calendar.
I called Apple support for help on this one and they told me they would have to charge me $695 just for me to be able to get help on this....which surprised me because I'm just trying to use their software to do something it is supposed to be able to do! LOL The only other suggestion he could give was for me to look to the discussion groups here for help....so here I am!
    HELP!
    xServe G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   xServe G5

The first thing you need to do is set up WebDAV on the Server and share a directory. If you need instructions on how to that just follow this thread.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2793917#2793917
Once you've set up a shared directory you just publish the calendar to it from within iCal.
To do that, set up a calendar, select it and then select 'Publish' under the 'Calendar' menu. In the dialog box that opens up give the calendar a name without spaces. Select 'Publish on: a Private Server'.
In the field for 'Base URL:' fill-in the complete url to the server directory you set up previously using the WebDAV instructions. For example, if you set up a directory on the server called 'calendars' and the URL of the server is www.example.com you would put in 'Base URL: http://www.example.com/calendars'.
Now enter the 'Login' name and 'Password' for an account that has access to the shared directory as you've set it up using the WebDAV instructions.
Select the other options you want to enable in the dialog box and then click on 'Publish'. Now the calendar is published and available for others to subscribe to.
Now to subscribe to the calendar, just select 'Subscribe' under the 'Calendar' menu in iCal and enter the URL for the calendar. Using the example from above you would enter 'webcal://www.example.com/calendars/StudioWork.ics' for a calendar that was named 'StudioWork'.
You can also email the URL for the published calendar by selecting it in iCal and selecting 'Send Publish Email...' under the 'Calendar' menu in iCal.

  • What's the best approach to resetting Calendar data on Server?

I have a database format error in a calendar that I only noticed after the migration to Server on Yosemite.  I'll paste a snippet from the Error Log in at the bottom that shows the error - I've highlighted the description of the problem in red.
I found a pretty cool writeup from Linc in a different thread, but it's aimed at fixing a similar problem for a local user on their own machine rather that an iCal server like what we're running.  Here's the link to that thread: Re: Calendar crashes on open  For example, does something like Calendar Cleaner work on our server database as well?
In my case I think I'd basically like to gracefully remove all the Calendar databases from Server and start fresh (all the users' calendars are backed up on their local machines, so they can just import them into fresh/empty calendars once I've cleaned out the old stuff).  Any thoughts on "best approach" would be much appreciated.
    Here's the error log...

<facepalm>  Well, there you go.  It turns out I was over-thinking this.  The Calendar app on a Mac can manage this database just fine.  Sorry about that.  There may be an easier way to do this, but here's how I did it.
Use the Calendar.app on a local computer to:
    - Export the corrupted calendar to an ICS file on the local computer (Calendar -> File -> Export -> Export)
    - Create a new local calendar (Calendar -> File -> New Calendar -> On My Mac)
    - Import the corrupted calendar into the new/empty local calendar (Calendar -> File -> Import...)
    - Delete years and years of old events, including the one that was triggering that error message
    - Export the (now much smaller) local calendar to another ICS file on my computer (Calendar -> File -> Export -> Export)
    - Create a new calendar on the server (Calendar -> File -> New Calendar -> in the offending server-based iCal account)
    - Import the edited/fixed/smaller/no-longer-corrupted calendar into the new/empty server calendar (Calendar -> File -> Import...)
    - Make the newly-created iCal calendar the primary calendar (drag it to the top of the list of calendars on the server)
    - Delete the old/corrupted calendar (right-clicking on the bad calendar in the calendar list - you can only delete it once it's NOT the primary calendar any more)

  • Import .ics calendar to ical

I have a class calendar that is an .ics file.  I have the url, but do not know how to import it into ical.
    Can someone help me out?

If it is a live link all you have to do is tap it. If not mail yourself the url and it should become live. Else wise the steps are as follows from the manual.
“Subscribe to a calendar. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap Add Account. Tap Other, then tap Add Subscribed Calendar. Enter the URL of the .ics file to subscribe to. You can also subscribe to an iCalendar (.ics) calendar by tapping a link to the calendar.”

  • AEBS with an External Harddrive as a FTP Server

Sorry if this has been answered already so fill free to point me in the right direction if so. Here is what I'd like to do; I currently have a WD harddrive plugged in to my AEBS, I'd like to use the harddrive as a FTP server for various reasons. I'd like to publish calendars to it, share files/pics with friends and family, etc. I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone please help me out?? Please provide specific details as to what I need to do. Don't know much about port forwarding, port mapping, not even anything about FTP, just seen it done on Windows. So if you could help or suggest another way to do what I'm needing please give suggestions. I know I could purchase MobileMe, but I'd rather avoid spending another $100 when I've already invested in an AEBS and a harddrive. Thanks in advance for your help!!

The AEBS can not act as an FTP server. You would need a different computer or server to do that.

  • Trouble subscribing to calDEV calendar

I am posting this, although I already found the problem on my own, so that others might benefit.  I was getting an error "There was an error subscribing to the calendar." followed by a line like "The data downloaded from http://192.168.1.100/ical/Home.ics isn’t valid".  I found others have had this problem in the past, but none of their solutions worked for me - I have a different situation.
I ran into this trying to get my childs account to display a calendar we keep for him.  It had worked for a couple years, but seems to have stopped working at some point, maybe after upgrading to Snow Leopard - he never  really noticed.  I noticed when we got him an iPod and I wanted him to have his schedule with him.
Anyway, it turns out that now, to subscribe to a calDEV calendar with Parental Controls turned on, you have to authorize the website where the calendar is published.  I discovered by trying to navigate to the location using Safari.  This will then give a more useful error message and allow authorizing.  After that, subscribing to the calendar will work.

  • How can i do scheduled automatic backups to an ftp server in ios xr?

Hello guys! As the title says im looking forward to automatically back up my running config on a cisco CRS-1 to an FTP server. I was only able to find this config example:
    Configuration commit auto-save filename ftp://A.B.C.D/myconfig.txt
This allows me to save my config to an ftp server everytime i use commit on the device. Now i want to know if there's a way to automatically save my configs everyday at 00:00  and also include the date and time in the name of the file so i don't overwrite the existing files in the ftp server.
I dont want to use any tool i just wanna know if what im asking is possible via CLI commands. I would greatly appreciate your help with this subject.
    Regards,
    David

Not sure if this script will work on a CRS, but try this:
    archive
    log config
    logging enable
    hidekeys
    path tftp:///$h-
    write-memory
    time-period 10080
    Explaination:
There are two ways to save your config to your remote station:
    1.  When someone saves the config; and
    2.  At an alloted time period, expressed in 10080 (weekly for me).

  • Java ftp server which can use LDAP, how to integrate with WLS' implementation of LDAP?

    Howdy.
I'm setting up a java ftp server
(http://www.mycgiserver.com/~ranab/ftp/index.html) which is capable of using
LDAP for it's user security. I would like to integrate this ftp server with
wls' implementation of LDAP so I only have to admin one user list.
Does wls put it's user list in the LDAP or in it's own proprietary setup? I
tried playing around with it, but the users don't seem to appear in the JNDI
tree. Is this where the LDAP stuff is located? I thought it was in there?
If it's in it's own setup, is there a way to propagate the users to LDAP?
If these look like newbie Q&A, I guess they kind of are, I'm new to LDAP.
Thanks for any input you might have.

    Peter,
If you are talking about using the embedded LDAP server in WLS 7.0 for this purpose
I think you are going done the wrong path.
Look at the following URL on how to use an external LDAP server for your custom
    application
