Subscription in iCal on Mac doesn' transfer to iCloud Calendar

In iCal on my Mac I have successfully subscribed to a shared calendar. However, the calendar has not appeared in Calendar in my iCloud account. How do I persuade it to do this, as expected?

Thanks for the feedback. This whole iCloud experience has been less than satisfactory--I thought it was supposed to be an improvement over MobileMe...
Worse, you can't control when the iCloud syncs. It usually does so seamlessly, but other times there are unexplainable delays. For example, sometimes photos show up on all devices via photostream, but other times you may have to wait a day or so before they synchronize correctly. Worse, there is no way that I can figure out to manually force them to synchronize.
And the idea that a calendar subscription that is stored on the iCloud (instead of the Mac) shows up on iOS devices, but does not show up on the iCloud site, is mind-boggling. Go figure...
Time to resurrect Steve Jobbs to get them to toe the line...

  • Can I only sync iphone ical to mac via itunes or icloud?

We just upgraded to Lion. We have one icloud account. I used to be able to use ical on my mac and it would sync automatically with my iphone 4s. I did not have to sync through itunes with a cable to sync either. I do not want my calendar entries on my mac to populate my husband/wife's iphone or laptop, which may happen if I use icloud to sync. Ihave other calendars syncing like my office outlook via exchange and a google calendar via CalDAv I think. When I looked to see what I would happen if I selected to sync calendars via icloud, this came up. I was afraid that I would lose my other calendars which I think are server based.
I don't know what to do! Help please!

you need an airprint capable printer or download
"print n share" and you can print from the iPhone.

  • Ical after .mac sync how to combine calendars

For some reason I got duplicate calendars (for example 2 work calendars) after syncing with my desktop and my laptop. So my laptop ical has 2 work calendars with different items on them (still related to work) and one of them has older material which might have been on .mac anyway. Is there a way I can merge two calendars together to make one (both calendars in same category like work). thanks, kate

katefu, try the export and import approach on this thread, it worked perfectly for me, and then I just deleted the originally exported calendar.

  • 1st sync of iCal to new 4S went OK. Now new items added on phone not showing up on iCal on Mac. Not using iCloud

The first time I synced my new 4S I was getting duplicate calenders showing up. I deleted all the calenders on my iPhone and picked replace items on my iPhone with items on my computer for iCal. That worked and I got them synced. Now when I sync, my calender on my computer does not get the changed items from my iPhone. I am not using iCloud just syncing with cable in iTunes.

I just had the identical experience. Both laptop and desktop have the same prefs set from within iCal to sync my calendars and address books. I've synced (sunked?) three or four times now, it appears to be working, but when all is said and done I am left with totally blank calendar on my desktop unit. Both have the latest Leopard upgrades. I also selected "merge all data" when prompted.
    What gives?

  • Calendar sync between iCal, Outlook 2011 and 2010 and iCloud

    All,
I'm having trouble syncing calendars on my devices and I haven't been able to find a workable solution yet. I know this topic has been covered extensively, but I haven't found anything that works.
I want to be able to sync my calendars (email works just fine) between three devices: A MBP (Mountain Lion) running Outlook 2011, iPhone 4S (Calendar App) and a desktop (Win8) with Outlook 2010.
Currently, I have no problem syncing the desktop with my iPhone (using iCloud) and these events sync into iCal on the MBP. Outlook 2011 on the MBP syncs into iCal using Sync Services to the "On My Mac" calendar. All of my previous calendar entries are single events in the iPhone, Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2011, but show up as duplicates in iCal (one entry is in the iCloud calendar, and other is in the On My Mac calendar). Since I don't use iCal as my "working" calendar program on my MBP, the duplicates are fine if it works as an interface between iCloud and On My Mac.
For any new calendar items, however, I must obviously select which calendar they'll appear in. As suspected, if I select iCloud, the items all sync to iCal, Outlook 2010 and my iPhone, but not Outlook 2011; conversely, creating events in Outlook 2011 syncs via On My Mac to iCal, but not the devices as using iCloud.
It seems to me that if a rule could be made in iCal which duplicated any event from On My Mac into iCloud, and another rule which duplicated iCloud events into On My Mac, there would be complete syncing across the programs, with obvious duplications of events in iCal (which is fine by me). I'm not a programmer and I have no idea how to, or even if, this can be done.
Has anyone else found a way to make this work, or have any other solutions?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Outlook 2011 is not compatible with iCloud, it won't work and your 'workaround' may affect iCloud clients on the same account.
    Don't use 2011.

  • ICal on the Mac doesn't sync to iPad and iPhone

I'm syncing using iCloud. A calendar update on the iPhone will sync in iTunes but the sync only updates the iPad calendar. iCal on the Mac doesn't update to the newer iPhone calendar events. I also tried it by hooking the iPad directly to the Mac via the cable, and the newer events on the  iPad calendar (which had the new events transferred via sync from the iPhone) didn't transfer to iCal. On the Mac in iTunes, I have the calendar named "Home" checked, which is the same name as the calendars on the iPhone and iPad.
How do you sync the Mac iCal to the iPhone and iPad calendars?

The 'Home' calendar does not sync to iCloud, only the iCloud calendar does that.
In the iCloud control panel have you turned calendar sync on? and are you seeing the iCloud calendar in iCal?, all calendars in the 'On my Mac' group are local, they do not sync.
Also, check in iCal>Preferences>Accounts, to ensure that iCloud is subscribed to in iCal:

  • ICal doesn't show my calendars, although data clearly sits on my computer

After a system crash, iCal doesn't show my calendars any more. It appears in the same state as when I opened it the very first time, i.e. contains empy "Work" and "Home" calendars.
    Yet,
    ~/Library/Application Support/iCal
contains plenty of data that looks as if it were my calendar's contents, namely in the subdirectory "Sources".
    On the other hand
    ~/Library/Calendars
does not exist. According to some documentation it should've been there.
Luckily, I had only recently synchronized my iPod, and I can still read my calendars from it.
How can I make my calendars re-appear in iCal, either based on the data that are still on my laptop, or from my iPod?? And then, in the future I'll make sure to have a more professional backup. ;-(

I'm seeing the same thing, and I can't even find where OS X stores calendars on disk anymore...

  • Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.

Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.  I had a heck of a time getting my Detroit Tigers Baseball team schedules migrated (but Major League Baseball supported the subscriptions, so it occurred).  As I work internationally, having these calendar subscriptions on the new Calendar would be very useful.
If one goes to the Apple site, and seeks calendars [http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/index1.html], they are shunted to MobileMe [https://www.icloud.com/mobileme/not_found/], with the note "MobileMe is closed. Go to iCloud."  But, I do not see how to get subscriptions from iCloud.
    Thanks.

The problem is that many of these calendars were hosted on MobileMe. I actually tried about 20 at random, and only two worked! Not all of the failures were ex-MobileMe, some were on other servers but produced 'File Not Found'.
Strangely, this one worked despite its URL:
    http://ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics
Until the people who publish these calendars (it's not Apple, they are third-party) wake up and find alternative servers these calendars are not available.
There may be other sources which work - try Googling.

  • ICal and .Mac

How come iCal doesn't work with .Mac the way Address Book, Mail, and Bookmarks do? It seems like I should be able to sync my iCal with .Mac and see it on the .Mac website. Instead I have to publish a Calendar and go to a separate link. Not that big of a deal, but it doesn't support colors and it's not as nice as the Address Book or Mail features of .Mac. It doesn't make sense that on the .Mac welcome page I hit the Mail icon to get my webmail, the Address Book icon to get my contacts online, the Bookmark icon to get my Safari Bookmarks online--but when I hit the iCal icon, it goes to an advertisement about iCal.
I understand the need for a link so others can share your Calendar. That's cool. But you should also be able to access your iCal via the .Mac welcome page. And today's appointments should be listed in the welcome page.

    shadowbox,
I agree with all of your astute observations, but since this is a user-to-user forum the best we can do is commiserate with you and recommend that you use iCal Feedback.

  • Sync to pull iCal from Mac to iCal on iPhone

On my Mac, I run Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, and just started entering events on iCal.
On my iPhone 4, I just added the iCal app.
I then followed these instructions for syncing.
    Syncing Your Calendar Via ITunes
    Step 1
Launch iTunes on your computer and connect your iPhone using its USB cable.
    Step 2
Select the iPhone from the "Devices" list in iTunes and open the "Info" tab.
    Step 3
Select "iCal" in the "Sync Calendars With" section and click the "Sync" button. Your iPhone's Calendar syncs with iCal on your Mac.
My iPhone iCal shows old *Google* calendar entries. How can I change/sync sync, pulling existing Mac *iCal* entries to my iPhone iCal app?
    Tips
Check the "Sync With This iPhone Over Wi-Fi" box in the iTunes "Summary" tab to allow your iPhone to sync with your Mac whenever it is connected to a power outlet and the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
Now I see events on my iPhone iCal that were pulled from a Google calendar that I no longer want to use.
    1) How can I change settings/sync to pull the existing iCal events on my Mac and transfer them to my iPhone iCal app?
    2) What is the hierarchy? Meaning, when I sync, is the Mac iCal or iPhone iCal considered to be the "accurate" version? Or, during the sync, will it look for the version with the most recent (new or edited) event, then update the other iCal making both current?
In advance, thank you for assistance!

Have him try putting the checkmark back in front of "Sync Photos From" on the Photos page of iTunes and change the selection of photos to be synced so that only one or two new photos is selected (and none of the existing ones) and then sync. If that removes the existing ones, then remove the checkmark and sync again.
Sync instructions in the following link if needed: iTunes: Syncing photos

  • My Mac doesn't recognize my Canon MVX330i

    Hi,
I have just joined the ranks of mac users, days rather than weeks, so my question may sound silly. I am trying to import video from my canon mvx330i(tape not card) but my mac doesn't recognize the camera, let alone import it. According to the tutorial, I should just connect to the usb port and away I go, but alas no joy. Am I missing something??

Tape based cameras such as yours require a firewire connection, not a USB connection. The USB out on the camera is used to transfer any digital stills you have taken on the storage card. The video, because of the way DV works, must be sent to the computer via firewire.
If you have a recent Mac, you will probably need to get a firewire cable that plugs from your firewire 800 port on your computer to your camera's firewire port (on Canon cameras I believe the port is labeled "DV").
These cables are available at camera/electronic/computer stores and on the internet.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot Sync iCal from .Mac

Whenever I try to sync iCal, a error message appears saying that iCal cannot sync due to inconsistent data, to reset data in iCal and then sync.

  • ICal data lost after MobileMe to iCloud transfer

Completed the transfer from MobileMe to iCloud and set up all devices..no issues there.
Opened iCal and found that the entries had all been duplicated - after deleting the duplicates (1st mistake) then found that after a sync - all was lost.
Luckily I had backed up before the updates - so imported the data back into iCal - but as soon as it syncs, it reverts back - no imported data remains...
Seems that the iCloud is overwriting the restore iCal on the mac....
Anyone else having this issue, or have any suggestions?
    DJ

The issue with the backup I had was that it was an "archived" export so I found that when I tried to import it back into iCal, it would bring the old MobileMe settings with it, which would then get overwritten by the iCloud settings and wipe the cal.
This is essentially what I did:
    1. Disconnect from Internet (so iCloud cannot interfere)
    2. Import archived backup into iCal (thus re-creating your diary as it was)
    3. Export each calendar individually (file-export-export = .ics file for each calendar)
    4. Re-connect to the Internet and on iCal app, ensure the account sync creates an iCloud ID within iCal settings (if not, delete the account and using your apple ID, create a "clean startup")
    5. Ensure any iCloud calendars are deleted (minimum of 1 must remain so I created "temp").
    6. Create new calendar names which match your previously used ones ("work", "personal" etc).
    7. Check that the newly created calendars appear across all iCloud devices.
    8. (Within iCal) Select file-import and choose your .ics file back up, it will ask you which calendar you want to use, pick the category ("work", "personal" etc) to which the back up applied.
    9. Repeat step 8 for as many calendars as you have.
    10. After syncing, all devices and the cloud should be showing sync'd calendars.
    Good luck
