Subtitle edits lost every time iMovie is closed

Hi,
I'm working on a movie with English subtitles. Every time I close iMovie, any editing I've done of the footage itself is saved, but the work I've done on the subtitles is lost!
I'm getting pretty frustrated, especially because I'll work with a native speaker for hours to get the translations/timing just right, and then 2/3 of the subtitles we've changed revert back to how they were before.
The subtitles never disappear completely; they just change back to wrong, earlier versions.
I've tried lots of silly little things, but nothing I do helps.
Any suggestions, please? Thank you so much.

HI
When iMovie behaves ill - I try something from this list.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Delete iMovie pref file
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
com.apple.iMovie.plist
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
com.apple.iMovie7.plist
com.apple.iMovie8.plist
com.apple.iMovie9.plist
and find
com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
• Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09 or 11)
• Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• iMovie updated ?
• QuickTime updated ?
• Mac OS version ?
• Program miss-match. iMovie 4 - will not work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.1.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’09 v. 8.0.6, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
Lennart Thelander
I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Beach ball every time iMovie opens

I get the beach ball every time I open iMovie.  Have repaired permissions and verified the disk to be OK. I have the latest 9.07 iMovie.
Any advise to fix this frustrating experience ?

    Hi
How much free space is there on You STAR-UP (Mac OS) Hard disk ? (others do not count)
    Did You try.
    • Trashing iMovie pref files (while iMovie is NOT running)
    • Repair Preferences
    Else
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery (if a PowerBook)

  • Iphoto in the latest edition crushes every time, when i try to edit the location of the photo, why? And how can i avoid this?

Hi, i updatet this week to Lion, and i did all updates for ilife as well. But know, every time i will change or edit the location/place of a picture, iphoto freezes. One cpu goes to 100% and iphoto dosn't work anymore. What can i do?

Hi, again! I got still the problem. Is there nowhere somebody with a solution (Apple maybe?).
It is annoying. I could still add photos but editing the location leads always to a crash. You can see the result in the screen shot above. In the doc is the monitor with one red bar - thats the cpu iphoto grabs and then freezes.
You could also see the field for typing in a location is still active (cursor is there) and the dropdown seems to wait for an answer of google... and thats it...
Is there a way to deaktivate this feature, so i can only type in my location without an location witch Google?
    Thx for help!
Please: do not recommend the reorganizing of the library or check of the library or else. This is all be done without any result...

  • Why are firefox updates (and history) lost every time I restart?

Every time I restart firefox, it indicates update is available which successfully installs. But when I restart, same message appears every time and history is lost as well.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 21.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • Lightroom 4 keeps asking to backup every time i try closing

Lightroom keeps asking me to Backup everytime i try closing it! What do i do? Ignore or backup?

The subject of “Backup” has come up a couple of times in the last few days and although I’m not claiming to be the fountain of wisdom on the subject, I felt I should write a few words about it.
Web-weaver has given some wise words about it above, but I would urge anyone (YOU) to consider this issue for yourself as it is definitely not a “one size fits all situation”.
In summary, if you read no further, you should spend a little time and think it through it for yourself with regards to what are your risks, probabilities and consequences of a disaster and what are the possible disasters anyway.   In fact I wish people would stop calling it “backup” as some might take the view of “I’ve done a backup - so job done”.   It should actually be called “Disaster Recovery” which really focuses on what you are trying to achieve.
    ------>
Disasters come in many forms and are not just had disk failures.    Examples include Hardware Failure, Virus Attack, deliberate sabotage by disgruntled staff, Fire, Flood, Theft, un-noticed cockups by yourself, bad software upgrades and Meteorite’s falling on your house!  In my career I (not to me personally - that would be unlucky!) have seen all of these things  except the last one!  I know of photographers who mitigate the risk of ALL of these things, but clearly it is up to you to assess your acceptable risk, your environment and acceptable levels of consequences.
For a simple example, consider if backing up to an external hard drive permanently sat on top of your PC, you may live in a house with a laser trip wire alarm system or have a pet leopard so perhaps less risk, but if you are backing up to an external hard drive sitting on top of your PC then there is a good chance a thief or fire will take both your PC and external drive.    Equipment is insured – good!   But no insurer can give you back your photos or any of your other important non-photography digital stuff.    Similarly for Fire, Flood and potential hard disk wiping virus attack.   A virus might not see your external hard drive as something different and be nice and kind to it!
When I am on the road with a PC/laptop I backup to an external hard drive at the end of each day and physically locate the hard drive somewhere else hidden to avoid theft.   At home I have extended my network into a separate out building and have a Network Attached Raid Storage (NAS) in the loft space – away from Fire, Flood and Theft.   I also periodically copy to another drive (Paranoid – perhaps!).   I’m not saying you must do this, simply what I feel comfortable with.
The second part of any disaster recovery solution is your retention policy.   It has been advised in the previous post by Web-weaver to take backup every time you leave Lightroom if you have done some changes.   This is fine (not how I work), but consider that each time you do this you will create a new backup file in addition to all the previous ones, and they build up.     For one of my catalogues each backup takes 1.5GB of storage so if I were to backup every time I exit (10 times a day) I would consume 465Gb per month.   This is clearly unsustainable (for most users) so you will need to delete some of the backups occasionally.   But how much do you keep and when?  This is up to you.
There is however a class of disaster that, although rare, may be important here – the “I’ve messed up my data but gone unnoticed scenario”.   For example you discover that a month ago you did something affecting not one image but a large number of them and didn’t notice and you can’t easily correct it.   Although more complex to recover, keeping some older backups may give you more options to recover the situation.     On tidying up the backup files, I generally will keep backups from each day from the last couple of weeks and at least one per month over the last 4 or 5 months.     I am not saying I am correct, but I’m saying it is something that needs thinking about.   Don’t just keep the last backup and also importantly, from time to time check your backups are actually happening.      I had a multi-million pound customer who unknowingly messed up their data (not Lightroom) and wanted to roll back two months only to find all the backup files had a size of 0 (Zero)!     Also keep a permanent backup each time you upgrade Lightroom in case you want to roll back.
If you want to take the time, effort and expense to move beyond simply “I’ve done a backup so I can sleep at night”, then create a situation where your backups are not simultaneously subject to the same risks as your main system, and this almost certainly means in different physical equipment and different physical locations.   I know that some pro-photographers backup to the internet.
The key message is - Only YOU can assess your environment, acceptable probabilities and acceptable consequences, but even if only 5 minutes over a coffee, assess it you should. And although good enough for many, don’t take at face value someone saying to just plug in an external hard drive and do backups.
Apologies to anyone who has wasted time reading this and knows it all, but it is not obvious to everyone, and for sure more than one person reading this will have had a “disaster”.   If this post helps one person think about it then it is perhaps worthwhile.
    Alan.
PS – Low probability, but **** Happens!     A sad but slightly amusing tale – I had a customer (10 person firm) where thieves drove up in a van overnight, broke in and stole all the client PC’s.   Two nights later they came back and stole the network server and all the backup units.    Although not funny, my colleague and I joked that they would come back and steal the companies IT manager!

  • "Connection lost" every time I wake from sleep

I bought my MBP with the wireless mighty mouse and for the past 2 or so months I've had no complaints about the bluetooth connection.
Now, every time I wake my computer from sleep the square comes up saying "Connection Lost" at the bottom center of my screen then about 5 seconds after my mouse pairs again.
Why's it doing this? Never did before...
I' not too sure if I'm being to nit-picking or a perfectionist but it just didn't do it before.
Am I crazy or does everyone's do this?
    Thanks
    -Mike

    Hi MIke:
I do not have a similar configuration (I rarely turn mu desktop iMacs off). When I do shut them down, the wireless devices are connected automatically.
However, if your mouse does pair, I would try "normal" troubleshooting as that could possibly cause additional problems.
    Barry
P.S. I am also curios about anomalies myself!

  • How do I forget popups every time it's closed?

    I tried using this:
    on closeWindow
    window(2).forget()
    end
in the Director file of the pop up and it works if only one
pop up is opened at a time, but when multiple pop ups exist then it
will forget the 2nd popup that is opened. Is there a way to tell
the popup that has just been closed to forget itself?

    > on closeWindow
    > window(2).forget()
    > end
You can use 'the activeWindow' to target the window in which
    your code
    is currently running:
    on closeWindow
    (the activeWindow).forget()
    end
However, as Dave suggests this will eventually cause a crash
    since you
are removing from RAM the file that is currently executing.
I use a parent script/child object and a timeout object
    scoped to the
stage window to forget windows "safely":
    -- parent script: window.closer.class
-- example usage (#movie script handler):
    --on closeWindow
    -- t =
    script("window.closer.class").new(_player.activeWindow)
    --end
    property pWindow
    on new me, aWindow
    pWindow = aWindow
    pWindow.forget()
    t = window("stage").movie.timeOut().new(string(me), -1,
    #mClose, me)
    end
    on mClose me, aTimer
    aTimer.forget()
    end

  • Captivate 7 Trial hangs every time I click "closed captioning"

    Hi,
Im using Captivate 7 Trial. When I click " closed captionning" in a slide or  "closed caption" in Audio Management , the program always hangs.
I have to use "Task Manager" to close it and open again, but the problem still exists.
Is there a solution to this ?
    thank you,

This is usually related to having used multiple monitors at some point and then changing your monitor setup.  The result is that the CC modal dialog is appearing somewhere off screen where you cannot access it.  This makes Cp look like it's frozen when in fact it's just waiting for you to click something on a dialog you cannot see.
Just hit ESCAPE to restore control of the application.  If you cannot recreate your previous monitor setup to drag the dialog back over the main window, you can sometimes resolve the issue by killing your Preferences folder.

  • Adobe Photoshop Album starter edition crashes every time I sync.  It worked fine the first time, but now it crashes and has to close.  Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?

This phone is about one month old.

Have you ever had all 7 of them synced before? Are these ringtones you made yourself? Is there a chance they could exceed 30 seconds in length? Is there a chance you have moved the original file location on the computer? May need the answers to a couple more questions to try and determine an answer.

There is no need to run the all.js (mozilla firefox\greprefs\all.js - resource:///greprefs/all.js) file. It is a Firefox JavaScript file that stores some default prefs and the Windows JScript program doesn't handle that file. You would normally only get that error if you double click the file.

FOr the past few days my iPad and iPhone won't connect to FaceTime. I have tried different wifi connections but they still won't connect. How cani fix this?

Judging by all the posts on the forum, there seems to be an issue at Apple's end, although they have made no announcement on their status page. Unfortunately, we may have to wait until Apple is more forthcoming with information.

  • IMovie Crashes Every Time I Attempt To Edit

Man, I really hope someone out there can help me with this incredibly frustrating issue.
I spent an entire week editing a 28 minute project in iMovie (OS 10.5.8).  Just as I was finishing the final edit, it crashed and now keeps crashing every time I try and edit anything.  I currently have 98 gigs of avaialble hard drive space.
The movie has a fair amount of music, voiceover, sound effects, and precise edits so I assume that iMovie just isn't equuiped to handle this.  I can accept that but now I can't even go in to try and remedy anything.
This is extremely upsetting.  This project was time-sensitive and if I don't have it completed by end of day today I'm sunk.
    Help!

    Hi
When iMovie get's into problem - very common origins are
    • iMovie pref file got corrupted - trash it
    • Preferences are wrong - Run Repair Preferences
    • Free space on Start-Up hard disk under 5Gb - should be 25Gb or more
    • iPhoto library is not in order - Start iPhoto and let it get in order
    • What You feed iMovie - Video codec, Audio file format and Photo file format - iMovie is very picky on what works or not.
