Subtitle forced

Hello boys, I need your help with the subtitle forced in blu-ray authoring.
The case is simple I need forced subtitle, but this subtitle shouldn´t delete, even with the button of control remote, don´t should desappear this subtitle of any form.
Because I making a work with 2 audio and the audio original should have subtitle forced, and this subtitle shouldn´t desappear never.
Thank you.

Thank you very much Stan Jones,
I checked the option of "operation permitted" and this option not permitted change between differents subtitles, but yes I can delete the line of subtitle activated. The only change that I can do is delete, and put the line of subtitle selected. And this is the problem, I need that the line of subtitled selected in the menu don´t can desappear of any form, even from the control remote.
I know that I can burned the subtitle line into the video, but this option isn´t good, because with I are watching the video and decided change the audio to original (as this audio should have subtitle forced) then not only will change the audio, if not, that the video will return to the begin. Futhermore, for make this, I need put in 2 same time lines in the same blu-ray, 1 with audio and subtitle normal, 2 with original audio and subtitle burned into the video, and with 2 time lines the quality of video will be very bad.
Another idea for my problem? Because I remember see some blu-ray with the selected subtitled impossible of delete. Is possible that encore don´t have this option?

  • Subtitles forced on - 'fixed' in DVDSP 4.1?

    Sup sup,
As many folks may (or may not) have experienced, certain DVD players will force a DVDSP-authored disc's subtitle stream on despite the fact that the stream is authored to be off.
During the course of my last DVD project, I always tested my discs on a Samsung DVD-VR320 DVD-VHS Recorder because it's one of those players that forces subtitles on (and, in general, it displays rather non-compliant behavior). The project was done with the original version of Final Cut Studio - FCP 5.0.4, Compressor 2.0.1 & DVDSP 4.0.2. (For those wondering, I used the typical workaround - an empty subtitle [a space] as the first subtitle stream)
To make a long story short, I've since updated to the 5.1 version of Final Cut Studio. When testing for Compressor 2.1 improvements, I re-burned this last project using the newly encoded assets, after building to a new folder, using DVDSP 4.1. When playing this disc in my VR320, I was shocked to learn that the subtitle stream was not forced on.
(I'm judging this based on pressing the Subtitle button to reveal whether a stream has been activated. And it's not like there was some type of firmware upgrade performed, or any relevant language settings were altered.)
To continue testing, I built a fresh (as in 'from scratch in DVDSP 4.1') version of only the track (no menus) with the 4 (real) subtitle streams, using English closed captions as the first track - so if they were forced on, I'd see it right away. I burned two versions just to cover the bases - one where a subtitle stream was selected (but not forced on) and another where not even a stream was selected. (In my experiences pre-DVDSP 4.1, both circumstances resulted in subtitles being forced on.) In both cases, subtitle streams were not forced on by the VR320.
So my question is: has anyone else observed this (greatly improved) behavior with DVDSP 4.1?

No one else has observed this, I take it?

  • Encore CS3 subtitles won't default to "off"

I'm using Encore CS3, and have a couple of subtitle tracks, but want the default to be "subtitle off" and despite my setting the disk build properties to "Subtitle: Off", the disk, when created (and even in the Encore preview windows), the subtitle always defaults to playing the first subtitle track.  I don't want the viewers to have to turn off the subtitles every time they view the DVD.  The "Play" button for the program on the main menu is set to "Subtitle: No Change". So, unless I go and turn the subtitles on, the DVD should theoretically play with subtitles OFF, right?
Now, I can force the "Play" link to play the track with subtitles off, but then that prevents the viewers from turning the subtitles on via the subtitles menu (which throws back to the "Play" link, which would then turn the subtitles back OFF when it's hit.)
I suppose I could create a separate identical copy of the main menu, the "First Play" one with the subtitles forced "off," and then one that the subtitle selection menu can throw back to, that is set at "No Change", but that all seems kind of unnecessarily circuitous.
So far the only other "workaround" I can think of is to make the first subtitle track a blank track, and then put the "real" subtitles on tracks 2 & 3.  But that seems like kind of a cheap workaround.
    Anyone have any insights?  Thanks!

    Hello.
You don't actually mention if this problem occurs in preview or in a real player.
If in preview - what happens on a real disc?
if on a real player, is the player perhaps set to have a default subtitle language? I ran across this on a recent project & had to force subtitles to default off on the disc, as the player insisted on displaying subtitles because it's firmware had set it's language as "English".

  • What is the best way to create an MP4 (.M4V) that will play with forced subtitles in iTunes, Apple TV, and all iOS devices?

I've begun ripping my blu rays to digital format so I can store them on my NAS and access them from any device. Movies without subtitles work great, I simply use MP4 passthrough and all is well. I'm having issues with videos that have forced subtitles. I'm assuming I need to mux the video, audo and subtitle streams into an .M4V. I'm not sure how to do this. What format must the subtitle be in? SRT, AAS? Will Subler work?
My intention is that have the subtitles show no matter what. I don't want to fiddle with enabling them and disabling them. I want to watch the movie in itunes or an iOS device and have the subtitles show up without doing anything.

    cmanion wrote:
They are blu rays purchased before the advent of digital copies being included.  What do you suggest I do? Repurchase the movies I already own?
We cannot help you on this board. What you ask is illegal to do in the United States. As Lyssa says, "You will have to search elsewhere for help." However, purchasing the movies from the iTunes Store is a legal option.

  • Mavericks + Quicktime and forced subtitles in TV Shows and movies

I have noticed that when I now open a TV Show or a movie from my external drive (M4V files) forced subtitles will not show. They don't even appear in the subtitles menu so I can manually enable them.
I usually use Subler to edit my shows and movies' metadata and add SRT subtitles after I download them. This has worked flawlessly in my Mac and my iPhone until I updated to Mavericks, so it must be related.
However, if the subtitle track is not checked, Quicktime automatically enables it (I suppose that's because default audio in OS X is Spanish but the audio track in the file is English). I'm not sure if VLC has changed its behaviour too (That would be strange, but forced subtitles don't appear either).
I have over 355 GB of TV Shows and about 2,1 TB of movies that I wouldn't want to edit, so is there any solution to this, like a hidden preference I hae not found yet? Thanks in advance!

You can also spend a few days searching for "creating custom screen graphics for movies." Try youtube but you wil lfind better stuff on vimeo. Many fo the motiongraphics forums have discusssion areas where artists will share their methods. Lopok carefully for behind the scenes features and docos created by the artists.
However, After Effects is only where the animation happens. You design and previsualize your effects in other applications. Well, there are some fabulous presets you can purchase but, of course, they are relatively expensive. Once your familiarity with AE goes beyond the most basic stuff, you wil appreciate why presets and effects packages cost what they do.

  • Forcing subtitles on, but they're staying on

I have a few lines of Spanish in a much longer English program, and wanted to use the Force Display option to show the English translation.
I have the subtitles for just that section set to "Force Display," and I've confirmed that the rest of the English subs both before and after that section are NOT set to "force display." I've turned it on both manually from within DVDSP, and by setting the appropriate flags in a STL file.
The lines turn on and off appropriately in Simulator. But when I burn a disc, or play back the build from DVD Player, the lines turn on and then stay on.
Is there a way to fix this after the fact, or work around this from within DVDSP?
Thanks very much for the help.

Just to close the loop here, I fixed the problem. If a subtitle that's marked as "force display" is touching the next subtitle that's NOT marked as "force display," the subtitles will continue to display when the disc is burned. If you build a small gap in between the two subtitles, the build will play as it should.

  • Question: Why does DVDSP "hang: when adding subtitles

I'm having a real problem adding subtitles to my 3.7 GB project. It's all built and I was in the process of adding subtitles to the 1 hr 30 minute film. Yesterday it worked fine, copying and pasting from a text application into subtitles I'm making as I go, but today it's been a nightmare.
I find after only two or there additions, I suddenly get the spinning wheel "program not responding" and have to force quit. I reopen the project and if I'm lucky I can add two or three subtitles, saving each time, before I get the"spinning wheel of frustration".
(problem posting this message so this is a repost)
I have no idea what's causing it. But it DVDSP at this stage of my project definitely doesn't like subtitles being edited, moved or played. It becomes unstable and then hangs.
I've downloaded the latest security update incase that helped, turned off the clock, (old habit) Nothing works.
A project that was going to take two hours to finish looks like taking two days now! I'll plod on but I could really do with some help.
    Any ideas?

  • How to display subtitles over videoComponent from getVisualComponent - JMF

I'm writting video player and I have encountered a problem. Is there a possibility to add Component (or something else what could display text in) to Component that I got from JMF method getVisualComponent(). As this method returns Component I can't add subcomponent to it. I tired to add recived Component to LayeredPane and JPanel with subtitles to higher layer of LayeredPane, and it works if I force lightweight renderer. But I'd like to use OpenGL renderer (com.omnividea.media.renderer.video.OpenGLRenderer), and in this case I've got black background in topmost layer with subtitles (even with setOpaque(false) ). Is there possibility to display one Component over another Component (top most component should be with transparent background)?
ps. If video is rendered by open gl renderer it is possible to draw with open gl in Canvas (instead of GLCanvas)? Precisly I've got HeavyComponent from getVisualComponent() that is subclass of Canvas.
ps2. Or how to tie my component1 to component2 in a way that component1 gets paint event when component2 gets paint event or when component2 is repainted?
ps3. Ok I figured out that problem with black background is thanks to havyweight component. If I add some component (lightweight component) on GlassPane it is above all lightweight components and below all heavyweight components. So is there a way to add lightweight component above heavy weight component in a way that lightweight component have transparent background?

Gosh, talk about a confusing mess of questions...
Heavyweight components will not go behind lightweight ones, which is why it's bad to mix heavy & lightweight components.
And yes, you can draw on the video inside whatever is rendering the video. You'd just, essentially, draw the image and then draw whatever you want on top of the image.

  • Subtitles do not appear in simulate while it appears in timeline

Please help...with your experience and genius brain. I'm panicking for this...
Subtitles suddenly stop appearing in simulator after I changed the text in the menu. (It was working fine till the point.) I thought I might have clicked on something accidently, so I opened up old file, but it's doing the same thing. Since then, any other projects have the same problem.
I clicked on "Force display" and clicked on "Apply to stream." Subtitles appear correctly in timeline as I play the feature. However, if I play it in simulator, subtitles don't show up (The subtitles display box is also checked). It's crazy to see it working fine in timeline but it doesn't in simulator!
I restarted the computer. Subtitles still don't appear in simulate. When I burned a DVD, of course subtitles don't appear.
Is this a bug of DVD Studio pro that was hidden and suddenly triggered? Or is there a secret button or setting I accidently changed?
I use DVD Studio Pro 4 Version 4.2.1

Please help this hopeless girl. Thank you so much in advance...

The Windows version of QuickTime Player Pro has never included a "New Movie Recording" feature.
It is a "Mac only" feature of the software.

  • Subtitle import Problem, HELP!

Thanks in advance for the help. Here is the problem. I am finishing a DVD project today complete with 6 different subtitle languages. I have been importing files for weeks with no problem. But today, for whatever reason, when I import a .son file, two files that are the new correct. tiff’s are imported as the wrong old .tiff. I have rid my computer of any .tiff with the same name, yet it still shows up wrong. Is there any way to purge, cache, parse subtitle files? It is referencing an old wrong one, I just don’t know how. Any thoughts please help.

    Hi Brian,
Yes. What DVDSP does is turn these subtitles into mpegs and places them within the project itself.
If you open the project by "Show Package Contents" from the finder. navigate your way through to Resources/Render Data and the files are in there. Just delete the files (not the folder) and you should be able to open up again and force a new build.
Let me know if you have any other problems

  • Multi-language subtitles - Auto-on?

Hi all - there was a similar post on subtitles but it didn't fully explain what I needed to know. I'm making an instructional DVD that has four languages to select from, and the subtitles must be displayed by default for the video to make any sense.
Could someone explain how I might do this? I wrote a script that says:
: Set System Stream Status (Subtitle Stream 1) (On)
    : Jump Menu 1
But to me this looks like it would force English (sub stream 1) when a user might choose one of the other languages. But not even that works - the English subtitles don't appear. I've tried this script both as a First Play and pre-script. I'm a novice DVD scripter so that could be totally wrong
    Thanks in advance,
    - @

Figured it out myself... it was pretty easy actually! Feel like a noob

  • Add iPod subtitles to a mp4 video?

I have some mp4 format movies on my PC with *.srt subtitles for them, so i want these videos on my iPod with these subtitles. I know how to merge the subtitles to the video, but I want to know how to add subtitles to a video that can be switched on or off at the time video plays on the iPod. Do any one know how to do it?

It haves the option to add subtitles, but then won't work, this is very common
And the standard edition of mediacoder doesn't create compatible videos with ipod, but mediacoder ipodtouch/iphone edition does it
I read something about subtitles must be converted in "line-21" format, but nobody knows more about it.
other way is to force subtitles into the video(embed them within the encoded video). Anybody knows how to do it?

  • Multiple Fonts in one subtitle and subtitle layer.

I am trying to use a music notes font to start some text that is sang. I am using MusiSync and Bell Gothic Std all in one subtitle. It works great on the very first subtitle on the track. Every subtitle after that uses all Bell Gothic Std without using MusiSync. So now I have a weird symbol instead of the music notes that I want.
I have tried creating the subtitles using the "Add Subtitle" option in the Encore monitor window and I have also tried clicking and dragging a new subtitle area using the "T" tool from the top toolbar. Neither work properly.
    Any ideas?

    Chet,
I found it. It wasn't Joe, it was Larry. (I'll skip the obvious puns centered around "Curly")
    Here's the text:
The easiest workaround I've found for this problem is to do the following:
    1) Select all subtitle clips in the timeline (lassoing all the subtitle tracks is the quickest way to do this).
    2) Make a change to the Leading attribute in the Character tab.
    3) Undo.
This will force all the subtitle clips to write correctly to disc.
I worked with David on this and the above steps seemed to work for him. Also, the problem only appears in certain workflows. Specifically, when you've made subtitle edits and closed your project without burning to disc, then reopened the project and immediately burned it to disc without any further edits. This is where Encore's burning engine gets confused; it doesn't regenerate new subpicture overlays and instead uses the previous bitmaps. It's definitely a bug and engineering has been made aware of it. Sorry we didn't catch this one in time!

  • Subtitle file wont import -why?

Hello, going out of my mind here.
I have a subtitle film "Subtitles_English.txt", which is laid out as such...

    $HorzAlign = Center // Left or Right
    $VertAlign = Bottom // Top or Center
    $Bold = FALSE
    $UnderLined = FALSE
    $Italic = FALSE
    $XOffset = 0 // Pixel offset(can be negative)
    $YOffset = 0 // Pixel offset(can be negative)
    $TextContrast = 15
    $Outline1Contrast = 15
    $Outline2Contrast = 7
    $BackgroundContrast = 0
$ForceDisplay = TRUE // DVD Force Display Flag
    $FadeIn = 0 // In number of Frames
    $FadeOut = 0 // In number of Frames

    00:00:02:00 , 00:00:06:00 , I was playing in a bar called Over Busy
00:00:06:00 , 00:00:12:00 , and one day Neto, Ernie came in
00:00:12:00 , 00:00:14:00 , and he asked me if he could play a song
    00:00:15:00 , 00:00:19:00 , I met Ernie through a phone call
    00:00:19:00 , 00:00:24:00 , Broder called me to record
    00:00:25:00 , 00:00:27:00 , and I let him play, how could I have not?
00:00:28:00 , 00:00:32:00 , It was the beginning of something special

00:00:36:00 , 00:00:42:00 , to meet with some musicians at the studio
    for example,
When I come to import the subtitle I get this error message:
    "No corresponding subtitles found.
The video asset timecode may not correspond with the timecode specified for the subtitles in the import file or the file is invalid."
Anyone have any idea why, what's worse is the file above is from the Apple Pro training series DVD for DVDSP2, so why wont it work in DVDSP4?
    Thanks in advance.

That's a bugger, because I opened these files in BBEdit as well and saved them as Mac with suffix.stl as well.
I am importing them the same way as you are, and am using DVDSP4, the files are directly from the Apple Pro training DVD for DVDSP2, for a lesson on importing subtitles, and they obviously work for you. So for some reason they are not working for me.
My timecode is 0;00 etc so I haven't a clue what the issue could be, as even creating my own file from scratch wont work either.
When I import them into a new file, they import correctly, so I'm at a loss as to why it wont work with my existing file

  • Some subtitles missing

I have created subtitles for a timeline (in Encore).  I am burning to BD-R.  About half a dozen subtitles in Chapter 2 are not displayed while playing the disc.  All the rest display fine.  I have verified that the subtitles are in the project and that they have sufficient frames between them.  I have tried editing each subtitle and rebuilding and also exported the subtitles, deleted the subtitle track, and then imported the subtitles and they are still missing (same ones).  Very frustrating!  The subtitles all displayed initially but edits to the subtitles and menus somehow broke this one section.
Is there a way to force Encore to completely rebuild the subtitles on the timeline and see if that fixes my problem?
I am currently using CS4 and want to get this project finished before moving on.  Plan to upgrade to CS6 soon but do not want to risk trying to finish this project after an upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Dan

I can't find the link at the moment. Try changing one subtitle, save, then change it back. See if that forces a render.
The same section being messed up after a total delete and reimport is not encouraging, however.
I would also try clearing the cache if that doesn't work..
